    #news #mystery #crime
    Crime. Social justice. Impact. "48 Hours" investigates the most intriguing crime and justice cases that touch on all areas of the human experience including greed and passion. "48 Hours," which premiered in 1988, has developed a rich history of original reporting and impact journalism that has helped exonerate wrongly convicted people, caused cold cases to be reopened and solved, and along the way changed lives.

    Ashley was a friend of mine I wish the victims were the focal point of these videos and not the monster who stole those beautiful girls lives. Ashley was so sweet and was genuinely beautiful on the inside and out. I miss her smile and the light she had in her. @@hardwired8084 What are you talking about? Hearsay means something else, it's when you give a second account, something you heard from others. In this case, the witnesses to the event gave a first type of account. They were there and directly heard and saw this. Maybe he wanted to confess or maybe he wanted to say something else. His dad calling him to leave was probably a coincidence because it seems they were moving that day somewhere else. If they did know about his murderous tendencies, they were and still are monsters, no doubt about it.
      His defense was laughable. I don't get them. First they said he didn't do it, then they said he did do it but was crazy at the time. Lots of contradictions. Good for his last victim for fighting him so valiantly and overpowering him. She really caught a serial killer.

    I'd like to know what was said or done to Gargielo's father and sister who came over to make him leave the house that one day so long ago. When right after that, he disappeared for years. Why did they come over? Why did they pull him away? Why were they protecting him so this years ago? In my opinion, they knew he was going to confess to her brother. So they find out where and what he was doing and went to find him and get him out of that situation. So....IMO, they're VERY MUCH partially to blame for the situation deaths! Everything could have BRB stopped right then and there had it not been for his father and sister stopping his confession all those years ago. So... what did they have to say for their actions???

      highly doubtful that he was going to confess..people keep expecting normal human responses from serial killers.. clearly he had a lot of strong feelings for Trisha.. so much so he bludgeoned her to death.... many killers return to the crime. he just wanted to be part of it.. and had some interest in the parents reaction.. and maybe in his mind .. visiting would be what an innocent friend would have done. Why his family came over?.. from what people know of the family they were pretty fearful of Michael.. but possibly would not have been able to believe he killed her.. but possibly thought he would get charged? even though he was innocent (in their eyes?). Either way.. he should have been questioned and considered a suspect.. everyone knew he was a loose cannon.. very explosive and violent.. ask his classmates/teachers/cops...

It had to be someone very local , a neighbor living by these people who got away with foul play.

      When the defendant isn't allowed a defense, we might call it 'being railroaded.' This puts the verdict, the whole trial, at risk of being overturned on appeal.

I highly doubt he would have confessed though, he may have had other reasons for visiting them, just to return to the scene to relive his experiences and make out to be sympathic and grieving to the family. His own family must have seen the Scratches on him. Who knows, but his family should have also been held accountable.

This would have SAVED those other women’s LIVES, it also would have delayed or stopped Gargulio from going to CA!! 😖 I am so upset that they could have STOPPED him or at least it would have put the laws eyes on him!😡😮

    In the UK, if you plead diminished responsibility and are found guilty, then you are committed to a psychiatric institution until such time as you are deemed cured - which could be never. I find it hard to believe that's not the case in the US too because it would be completely illogical to let a killer free because he has no control over his killing people.

      We have an insanity defense, which sounds identical to what you're describing.
      I'm this case, the lawyer trotted that out with no real hope of a jury believing it.
      We have a case here locally of someone who attacked a woman with a knife, and the court has found him 'incompetent to stand trial.' Every few months they'll have a professional reevaluate the defendant to see if he's now competent. It's kind of silly, in my opinion. However, he's in a state mental hospital.
      If you're interested in a case that is quite an anomaly, check out the one with the Olympian dressage trainer. I don't remember the name. Michael something.

      @Mandy-dy7nj 2 місяці тому +1

      @@Cautionary_Tale_Harris Thanks for that interesting tidbit (have a like). I think we need to highlight two slightly different things here though. There's competency to stand trial, and there's diminished responsibility/insanity at the time of the crime when being found guilty at the trial.

    • @Cautionary_Tale_Harris
      @Cautionary_Tale_Harris 2 місяці тому +2

      @@Mandy-dy7nj Right, I should have been more clear.
      Individual states employ different procedural requirements. In my state, you can't even begin the trial unless the accused is 'competent' enough to understand that they are on trial, and what the charges are. This means they a held in a state mental facility until the court is convinced they have 'improved' enough to proceed.
      Going back to differences in final verdicts, our cousin to your diminished responsibility is called Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity.
      A good example is the case of Andrea Yates.
      We also have a Temporary Insanity defense, and the case I mentioned in my first comment is in the 48 Hours episode "The Shooting of Lauren Kanarek," which has an interesting outcome.

    Man I feel so so so so bad for Patricia's father and if by any small chance he read this I know there is absolutely nothing that I can say and I'm really struggling for words here because I don't know what to say but just know that my you and your daughter and your family are in my prayers and you have my utmost condolences and sympathies I could not even begin to fathom and or imagine that scenario... I would take her place if I could me..

    It’s silly to imply the defense ever had a chance. All these attacks occurred blocks from where this psycho was living. That’s the end of the case. If the jurors aren’t stupid this is a slam dunk. There’s simply no way anyone could frame the killer’s proximity to four different knife attacks as coincidence.

    Ashton Kutcher could’ve saved all girls life if he was on time. He also saved his own life by not being on time.
