    The crinkly A pillar interior trims, I remember replacing them under warrenty, takes me right back to when I was a 18 year old RS mechanic. Happy Times, we never realised at the time how nice those cars where to work on.

  • @richardjones5255
    @richardjones5255 2 роки тому +32

    When you showed steering slop, I thought the rack moved rather than the ball and cup part, clearly a good call to replace the rack. The brake pipe was a trial, corrosion and vibration make you work in difficult locations. Your smile, when it was all done, told the real story of joy and achievement.

      I remember my dad used to do everything to his MK2 R.S 2000 when we were kids. He’d do his own break pads, oil changes, tracking everything. Hes 70 and retired ad he said he wouldn’t dare touch a modern car now. Give him a old Ford, Rover or Vauxhall he’ll do the lot.

    Yes Rob those of us that had a Ford Escort turbo back in the 1980's loved them. One up from an XR3I but I got round that problem and had both cars.
    My Escort turbo was a 1987 in diamond white and it was meticulously maintained by me but after 5 years of ownership I sold it on and within 2 weeks it was written off when the new owner hit a bridge. Not uncommon back then for Escort turbo's to be written off in accidents or stolen which is why they are perhaps reasonably scarce these days to find a really good example.
    Enjoying the video as it does bring back good memories for me.

    This is a gurt mint channel! - this does take me back to my youth!!! my first motor was a mk4 Escort. However with a being freshly licensed driver! The closest I had to any thing quick was my parents ‘83 Vauxhall cavalier CDI (1.8i) - quick motor or ride/have ago inmates fast fords stupid enough to pay the high insurance . However MY first car, needed to be sensible and a Ford and in a strange way somehow ended up being a nod to my childhood - surrounded by various mk3/4/5 diesel ford escort vans. My first car ended up being FORD ESCORT 1.6 DL in maroon 5 door hatch - Loved it. So simple to work on. First job within days of car ownership as a young 17 year old chap, new head gasket. So the seller gave me a hand. Only to then find out, once replaced the actual problem being a 15p core plug! Rob and Chris love the videos. (Getting me spanner’s out once more-again, blinking copper injector seal has gone on my mk6 Ford Fiesta 1.4 tdci. It’s old and about to be banned from the city centre, thanks to some muppet at the council, but I love driving it can’t bare to part from it.) - back to the escort - remember It’s not just an Escort, cars back then were unique. Simple. and you soon knew who were the best Ford scrap dealers ford Ford parts.

    The quality just keeps on coming, I had a mk4 GL plus that was an awesome little motor I could only dream of owning an RS . Great viewing as always chaps.

    This channel makes me smile after a troublesome day in the trade. Started to really warm fast Fords. Born 77 in trade since 2005

    I get really great reactions from passers-by when I take one of my Grey Ferguson tractors out. Most smile, many wave, but it`s such a joy to have a little trundle around my village. One thing that Chris would hate though is one of them is petrol/TVO (Chris will know what I`m talking about) and if I can get the mixture right it will create some wonderful backfires on the overrun! No turbos, no dump valves, just wonderful 1940s/50s technology with a little tinkering!

    Fitted many refurbed steering racks back in the day and they all looked brand new. So I believe yours is a refurb!

    I can remember buying one stolen recovered when I was in the game. What a beast. Sold it and the punter stacked it 1st day.
