Josh you made a quite impressive comparison! 🤝 We've mapped out some patches, and we hope that they will enhance the Switch experience.
How can you let the Switch version out the door like that? it's dreadful
Looking forward to seeing how it improves! I'm really enjoying the game otherwise! 👍
@@stevesgaming7475 It's still better than the final state Portia on the Switch ended up in. But I am glad they are working on improving it further!
@@stevesgaming7475
switch is not made for handling these games.
do u realize how much work it is to reform your game to run on 10 year old mobile phone hardware? @@stevesgaming7475
The My Time is a wonderful series and though they both have issues that some are hopefully getting fixed with patches or maybe when Switch 2 comes out, it'll be easier to optimize/fix, I would still recommend this game to anyone who loves a good story, decorating, and relationships. It's for sure unique among the "cozy" games and easily a game where you can sink in 100+ hours!
I don't mind the blur and frame skips but the dull (poop-y) brown colors and lighting is kinda deterring me a bit to get the switch version 😭 I might get the PC version first and check it out. Thank you for the side by side visual reference! Very helpful! cannot wait for multiplayer with the members!!
Multiplayer will be so fun!! 🥳
I got the pc one but since I'm more used to playing handheld games I stick to switch. Graphics is really good in pc version
I was spoiled by the demo on Steam. However the Switch's portability is a big plus for me. I'll keep my preorder as I got it on a discount and it's physical too. I might be tempted to get Sandrock on Steam when it goes on sale.
Steamdeck is the way to go.
Those side by sides are pretty revealing. I'm not sure I could handle that, but I guess like you said if you've only played on the switch, maybe you wouldn't notice.
Switch is the only platform I can play this on, so the decision is already made for me. I hope the developers will support this game better than Portia was on Switch, by the end it really felt like they'd just abandoned us. Although I don't know how much of that is the fault of the publisher- Team17 certainly isn't a great company and it's possible they could have been the reason.
Thanks for the comparison Josh! I was convinced to buy this game on steam earlier this year after watching one of your livestreams. I'm so glad got caved and got it when I did because keeping up with the updates, and just playing the game in general, has been a blast.
This was a very useful video. I hope to be able to play on PC one day that way I can enjoy this series to the fullest. I am still very excited though
Personally I think the switch version looks pretty damn bad. And I'm not a graphics snob, I love old retro games, and a lot of them hold up with antiquated graphics. But this is ain't antiquated, this is FLAWED; those pop-ins are so distracting. It'd be nice for the switch mains to get graphics updates. As for me I'll def wait to be able to play it on PC.
I love my SWITCH but honestly they really need to get it at least half up to par as the current consoles, games are just requiring too much now a days even for farming or cozy games.
Great video. Will most likely play on Switch as I just prefer handheld more but don’t have a SteamDeck. We’ve still got time for it to properly release but from what I’ve seen it definitely seems like an improvement over Portia. The pop-in looks a bit distracting though the rest I can probably handle. Personally don’t play multiplayer and don’t mind waiting for content though definitely depends on what it is.
Will probably get it physical so I can return it if I don’t enjoy it
Thank you for the in depth review. not too much and not to little info. helped me a lot on the decision which version to buy. the side by side comparison was perfect
This is a really great and helpful video! I just started Sandrock and I'm so glad I got it on PC. They actually just had a graphics update a few days ago and it's even more gorgeous now
I love the side by side comparison, that is very helpful. I hope people do remember it's a Switch limitation, not a fault with the game itself, though. People were so harsh about Portia on the switch and Pathea had no part in that.
This is not a Switch limitation 😂 it's clearly a Devs fault for not working properly on it and releasing a not finish product. There's plenty of big games that look better than this (Atelier Ryza 3 for example)
….the bugs in Portia are still bad though 😂
The issue isn’t the switch limitations but it’s also not the devs fault. It’s just cause the game was build for pc and the switch version was obviously NOT build up from ground. If a game is build with the switch in mind from the beginning it’ll be way different. But it’s kinda obvious they wouldn’t waste resources to start all over again just so it looks good ok switch
Portia was horrific on the switch. Unplayable. Should have definitely been allowed a refund. It’s the game I’m most salty about. What a waste of money. Definitely a dev problem, 1st party games play fine, so it can be done.
@@pippaloves the majority of third party games also are fine. It's always a dev problem if they don't wanna invest money on a good port for the console.
Wow, when people say the switch is an underpowered console but you mostly play first-party titles, you don't really notice what they're talking about. But take a game that was not originally considered for switch and try to put it on there...what a difference! Well, like I mentioned a couple of days ago, I have My Time at Portia on the switch, but I'm going to put this on my steam wish list and keep an eye on the price lol. Smaller developers like this probably won't get any information on the next Nintendo console until it's officially announced, but I bet it would look good on that!
I play the game on pc using a controller and the steam link. It runs so beautifully and the only drawback I have with controller is the decorating, which is a major pain in the bum so I use the mouse for that part. Can’t wait for full release to play multi player! Great review and the side by side really makes the differences clear. Great work!
This! A combo of controller & mouse is where it's at!
Thanks for the side-by-side comparison! The Switch version doesn't look half bad! I love the portability of it, but since I backed the kickstarter for a PC copy, I'll probably play that one first and pick up the Switch version as well once it's had a few patches or goes on sale!
I will also be really curious to see what fixes they're releasing for Portia, as they announced that too. I hope you'll do another side-by-side when the updates are out!
Can’t wait to see your full game review. So undecided on it!
i have it on my pc but i’m still getting it on the switch! i know im going to play it more on my switch because i will be able to relax and travel with it!
Steamdeck?
@@stevesgaming7475 i have that too but sometimes i prefer something smaller to lay in bed with tbh
I’m hoping the ps5 version will be more like the pc because it should be able to handle it. You have convinced me that I would like performance over hand held experience. I saw your stream for a bit and the switch version looks fine but I really don’t like how the npc models look.
well considering the recommended spec for pc I would assume the PS5 is fine, plus you got a SSD in a PS5 so there should barley be any load times at all
Thank you for the video. I will have to try this and my time at Portia.
They're both really fun! My Time at Sandrock has so much more content & quality of life features, so if you play that one first it might be hard to enjoy Portia after, so I'd recommend starting with Portia if you intend to play both. Also, it often goes on very good sale, it's 80% off on Steam right now.
Since my computer is a bit crap, I'll get it on switch. Looks okay from what I saw. Would have liked the colours to be a bit more vivid and popping but if I can put up with the blurring I got when I played Grow: Song of the Evertree (seriously the cutscenes are super blurry and out of focus) Yonder or even Outer Worlds on the switch, then I can cope with this.
I won't be able to get it until next week, but I have plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime (such as my 5th or 6th playthough of Dragon Quest Buliders 2 and Rune Factory 3 Special) Thanks for the video Josh!
Good choice for dragon quest builders 2 I hope the builders 3 have romance tho. As malroth is also a useful and hottie
@@DonSalcedo-ic4le Thanks, I just wish there was news that DQ Builders 3 was being made! I bought my switch just for DQB2 (played 1 on the vita) and haven't regretted it at all!
@@cypher568 right, I’m still waiting too. Hopefully there’s a news next year or so
Same. Love dqb2, and they definitely should have incorporated some romance with malroth. I really hope they do a dqb3.
This video was very informative. I will get the game on Switch, since my PC can't handle it, but asides from the graphics, which I will adapt quickly, my worry was with the performance and if it runs alright, that's what matters.
I’m used to the switch having lower performance than other consoles/pc so I personally don’t mind ❤ I just hope it won’t crash as much 😢
It won’t, but there’s a problem as josh was saying, if you like building you’re house and farm. There’s a limit. Also the update takes too much time. I beat the game and I’m waiting for the update. So I can get a reverse confession. It pissed me off so much, that I decide to buy a gaming PC
I have no complaints for the Sandrock switch version. People need to stop comparing it to more powerful hardware. The switch is 6 years old now. As far as I’m concerned I have been impressed so far with how the switch version of Sandrock runs. Especially comparing it with the Portia version on switch. You can tell that the Sandrock port was made with so much more love than the Portia version. Do we need a switch 2 already? Absolutely. Apparently the rumors are saying that the switch 2 is going to have the same power as a PS4/Xbox 360. But until then I’m happy
I agree, most of this review seems unreasonable and overall negative
How is te game compared to the steam deck ? I have a gaming pc and steam deck, but I like to play my games on the go lately.
Thank you for the in depth analysis! I play on PC anyway but this is probably very useful for Switch players. Now my only problem is where to start making multiple saves to have as many romances as I want because I cannot chose
I’ve been playing it solely on my Steamdeck and it’s been great so far. Going to update to this latest patch and check it again.
What do you think about My Time at Sandrock for the PS4 / PS5? I found it on the PS Store by chance and from looking at the screenshots it looks pretty promising.
Thanks a lot Josh for this awesome video ❤❤❤ 🎉🎉
Thanks for this, glad I chose the PC version. And yeah it runs nice on the deck at medium settings, didn't try higher ones as these suit me perfectly.
Brilliant comparison video thanks if i buy it it will be on pc for my steamdeck
I'm curious about the PS5 version, is it going to have the same limitations when it comes to decorating/building rooms as the switch does? Its a more powerful machine so should be able to handle more, but I dont know how development for console ports works, if it gets optimised for each platform or if they focus on making sure it runs on the weakest platform so its the same experience across all consoles?
looking at the stream recommended spec the PS5 should have more then enough power to play the game, but as you say it depends on how they are handling the console ports, I am currently downloading it on my PS5 so I will soon see
Hey hello can in this Game, My time at sandrock a Controller or Mouse?
The limitations in terms of decorating is what annoys me the most in Portia Switch version.
Developers told me that was inevitable in order to not compromise performance which I completely understood. And with Sandrock we're having the same problem. 😢😢😢 unfortunately...
This time I'll keep playing on PC since now I have the option.
Does the steam version support cloud saves?
does the xbox/ps5 has the same graphic as the pc?
I had issues with my PC and I did learn my PC isn't the best for gaming (games with lower graphics and Visual novels play smoothly), but I can't afford one of those amazing gaming computers atm, heck the reason I didn't get a Mac (despite it being a better computer) is because I can't afford one now.
I really was hoping the Switch version was decent at least because I wanted to continue playing MTaS on my PC, but the lagging, bugs, and few crashes made it unplayable for me. I have heard this game is on the PS4 though and I know that console is stronger than the Switch, so I am wondering if I should give that one a try instead.
I may give my PC version one more try though since it has been months since I last played, to at least see if any of the kinks have been fixed. I can tolerate the lagging since Coral Island also lags a bit on my PC. It really is a good game (least fav part is actually the farming lol).
Hi Josh, thanks so much for your early review of Sandrock on Switch. We're excited to let you know that we've just released a brand new version, V1.2.2 on March, with lots of improvements, particularly in fps and more. We'd love for you to check out the new version. If you're not sure what's new, feel free to visit our page to find out all the updates. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!🤝
I finished it in steamdeck last week and it was AMAZING!!! I loved the dungeons the story and the romance with Logan omg. Best game I’ve played in a long time.
YOU CAN ROMANCE LOGAN?!?!?! 😱😱😱
@anonbobanon7320I you sure can! And it’s by the far best romance I’ve ever had in a game. I’m going to play it again just to experience the romance with him all over again 😂
This has quickly become one of my favorite games despite the quality issues on the Switch. But it does make me sad to see how much better it looks on PC 😭
Thanks for sharing josh. I am switch user and i've been waited this game for so long. Should i buy the game for switch?
clearly, we've reached (for a while now i'd say) the end of what a switch can do and it shows more and more.
The switch version just got a performance patch. It would be awesome if you could check it out as no one is posting gameplay of it.
J'ai la même remarque, mettez à jour la vidéo svp !
I´m playing it right now on PC, but while I got switch, this would be very neat to have on Switch!
Although I´m a bit worried while PC version is VERY demanding and it might wreak havoc even in handheld mode.
I prefer the switch version. I can pop a moment in before bed or take it on the road.
I think I'll stick with Star Ocean and wait until the update for this game is released. Thanks for the video
Ty for look got for pc haven't been well enough still may buy for switch even though it a little
I don't recommend it on Switch. My time at Portia still has tons of lagging in the open world or fights, the only thing they did fix was loading screen after all this time to please fans into buying Sand Rock.
In my case I can only buy the game for Nintendo switch because I don't have a computer that can support it but there is the detail that it only says that it will come out in 2023 and it comes out tomorrow 😭
😅 just ordered a steam deck to experience fully. I’ve been playing the switch version since it released but the lag on content is killing me
I started with the switch version as well. Decided to give the steam version a whirl as it was on sale. No regrets here. I'll probably still finish my switch playthrough though.
Normally Im not obsessed with graphics and performance, but Switch version seems to look and run really bad, so Ill go with PS5
I’m waiting for xbox series x version. My laptop would not handle games well and I have been wanting more cozy games on xbox besides Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Although I do have steam deck, maybe I will wait to see how it looks on xbox series x
I would like a comparison of My time at Sandrock with My time at Portia on Switch. Of course PC is better. I just want to know if the sequel is better.
It would much better to use steamdeck as pc baseline to compare, since everyone pc is different in specs. Steamdeck have uniform spec like a console if you dont tinker with it
I agree it would be a fairer comparison, but as I mentioned I don't have a Steamdeck so I couldn't get into much details regarding that. 😅 That's why I recommend people to look at the specs on Steam or to try it there and refund if necessary.
@@JoshGamingGarden cheers, i dont have either. It's not officially comin into my country, while ROG Ally do
I bought it on Steam for 3 reasons: graphics are way more beautiful on PC, 60 FPS and the fact that it’s on sale on Steam right now. Bought the deluxe version for the extra outfits and furniture.
I bought this game just today, of what i see it's not that bad if you play on handheld but when it's docked it's a little bit hard because you see everything about this port like the Alliasing, some pop up things etc...
But it's not that bad to be honest. Downgrade but not unplayable. after i bought this game i can't even stop playing... this is so addicting.
-
I saw on twitter one of the dev talk about the new update for today i saw the difference between many video post recently on YT.
-
Many people talk about crash but for what i play i did not have.
It seems switch also doesnt have hair physics.. and from what I've seen npc dont move face even when their mouth moves and may not even blink x.x
We need a switch 2 so damn bad 😭
I would love to play on PC but my PC gets so hot these days :S but the switch version looks suuuuuper rough tbh and I hate how close up it is, I guess it’ll be a skip for me until I get a new PC
How old is you’re pc? And what brand is it? Maybe clean it? Or just upgrade some things on it
Just like It Takes Two, the most noticeable thing for me is the fps
I am super bummed that it is not Steam Deck ready. I am going to return it and get it on my Switch.
What do you mean? I play it on my deck and it's great.
Yes it runs great on the steam deck, just drop the fps to 30 so you don’t get inconsistent fps drop and loud fan noise. I have over a 100 hours
How can this look so low quality while something like tears of the kingdom exists?
lazy devs who don't care and know people will buy it regardless
Because Tears of the Kingdom was only developed to run on the Switch. Most other games are multi-console/PC titles which the devs have to adapt accordingly. Ports from other platforms to the switch will *always* be worse off, period. It's an underpowered system to begin with.
I have it on Ps5 and it runs great (but does have some frame rate drops here and there). I won't be able to tolerate this kind of performance on the switch and honestly this has me terrified over what Coral Island will be like on the switch. I really wish they could just exchange my Kickstarter code for a Ps5 one....
I have gaming PC but I was so looking forward to playing this on Switch. I much prefer to play cozy games on Switch but this looks so bad. Not sure what I‘ll do
As someone who beta tested the game for 300h, the loading times on switch must be awful. I would recommend the PC version any time.
I have it on switch, loading time is really fine, I’d say maybe depends if the switch have an SD card. And the memory is really okay. I think if you have so much games and don’t have sd card. And all the games are downloaded, it’s possible to have so much problem with it. My switch runs fine. The only problem is the limitation for me, and the update is so late.
I have both version ❤
Thanks for the comparison, Josh!
It won’t be as good as pc, you can max graphics on pc for that. And not on the switch. I’ll still play it on switch because if the portability. I’ll play it on pc when I’ll have time for it. But for now I enjoy handheld. Thanks for the comparison
I really wanted this game and I only have a Switch and this is sub par by alot. I'll give it a pass until I see if they improve it. Or if I'm desperate, Thank you for your honesty on this review.
it lools rlly bad on switch but i don't have a computer that can run it decently either 😭😭😭
I have a mac and it’s not compatible unfortunately so…
I’m taking the switch version even tho the graphics are worse thant pc.
Wow!! The Switch version is awful! Thanks for this video, I'll buy it on Steam for my Steamdeck instead of my switch.
Looks like I’ll be getting on SteamDeck. :)
they need to release a new switch asap, its unnacceptable the console cant handle a simple game like that...
I understand switch is not that powerful for a smooth graphic but it sure look weird compare to pc version XD
me with the switch graphics on pc because my computer is ass
Bummer.... the switch version looks pretty bad compared to the PC game. Not sure what happened with the developers releasing the game at that state?
I normally don't pay attention to graphics, especially on the Switch. But this game is a big oof from me. I'll prolly stick to PC personally.
This kinda steams my bacon. I waited for the switch version and missed sales on pc. And we get a garbage graphics looking thing.
Hmm the quality on the switch is a shame, a vast difference. Hopefully my 6 year old gaming laptop will play it 😂
I hope Xbox one runs well, I only have that besides switch and a craptop 😂
There’s no excuse to for it to look this bad. Dying light isn’t a first party Nintendo game, but it looks amazing on the switch.
The switch version looks like jimmy neutron 😭
So glad I don't give a rat's ass about graphics. It's an easy buy for me.
i dont get why people keep thinking consoles will be same as PC, the Switch specs isnt that great
Not sure what people were expecting the Switch is extremely dated in the graphics department and can't really run current 3D games well if you have a capable PC buy Sandrock on that even Portia looks awful on the Switch
Does Lenovo legion 5 amd rtx 4070 will be okay to play this game? I’m planning to buy a pic and needed to know because I don’t know about Pc, as I’ve been playing mainly on console. I hope you reply thank you.
@@miyazakiendo3743 You should easily be able to play it no problem as that's a pretty good GPU.
People need to stop expecting quality and performance from the Switch, it's 7 years old and was outdated when it came out. Devs are also partly to blame for releasing stuff for it, but with how many people have one, it's understandable they want those sales too. I'd rather games on Switch suck than have ugly compromised games on PC or other consoles.
it doesn’t even look like the same game
Gosh, nintendo. Ffs. Get a good gear already.
Im so angry that its another game i cannot play in handheld
I'm going to said this for people said switch has it limitations. Yes, but I don’t think this game should look this bad if they Devs tried their handest to make it look good. I guessed the Dev isn't as experienced as other devs
Sounds very biased and negative
The weakness of a console
Bad advice. Please don't recommend people use the steam 2 hour refund to "try" a game. That's not what it's intended for and people may have issues down the line with steam refusing refunds if they think people are using it in this manner,
