- Cine film from 50's & 60's of Motherwell, Scotland. Brandon st, Duchess Park, Fir Park. Originally filmed by a man called Mr McCunn, who was the secretary of Motherwell & Dalziell cine club.Clever guy! Many thanks to his wife who generously provided the original 9 mm cine tapes.
I’m originally from Blantyre but I know Motherwell very well . Now living in Adelaide Australia, thank you for the memories .
The mansion was old Jerviston House owned by the Colville
Family and situated in Colville Park golf club of which I was member
from 1959 ! It was demolished around 1967 to make way for a new
modern clubhouse. Used to spend my whole life in Calder Park as a child.
Great video, I think my parents knew the McCunns.
Oh ok smartarse ;o) x
thanks for sharing, left 46 yrs. ago, really fond memories of parks and playing in street. The library was amazing. the train station exciting. the Calder river fun. the Duchess park my favorite.
Fantastic to look at old Motherwell. I live in the middle east now and it's great to see the old town as it was. Thanks for posting this.
Great to see this old footage born in Motherwell 1957 great childhood memories left 1980
Lovely old film. Was born and brought up in Motherwell. It's not THAT bad Stuart! I've been all over Britain and the world and Motherwell is much better than a lot of places! ;-)
Born and bred in Motherwell and still here to this day.
Thank you for the kind comments. Seems to be something wrong with the soundtrack however. Doesn't sound like the original which I put on. I suppose the pictures are the most important thing however. I still live in Motherwell, ( born at home in Dalriada Crescent,Forgewood, 'The Flats' in 1955). I have very vague memories of tramlines running through the cross before they were dug up. Also the Brandon wall. The place has changed since then beyond recognition. I prefer my memories.
Amazing, he even captured the exact moment when the world changed from black and white to colour!
Well done. The music is well chosen too. I'm with Stuart. I go back occasionally (from Australia) and it seems only too get worse...
I grew up there in the 1980s and it's interesting to note how few of my peers and contemporaries still live in the surrounding area. We've all moved out and moved on, mostly because of lack of employment opportunity. I'm not saying heavy industry was ever the answer, but the closure of the steel plant really hurt the town badly. Going back just depresses me now - the poverty is really tangible.
Really good stuff I used to deliver to both the steel works in Motherwell between 1978-1986 I myself worked in the Clyde iron works at cambuslang from 1974-1975 it was a shame to see it close as well the cine film is good and I know some of the Types of cars in it as I was born in 1951
Probablt best if you watch with the volume muted. which is a shame.
totally awesome. I was born I
Sorry don't know name of the mansion.
