The cities and smalltowns in Canada are far worse off than anything I seen in Glasgow, I was in Glasgow in July from Ontario... where free drugs and living in a tent on the mainstreet is common place, garbage just blows down the roads these days here and nobody looks twice. Our beautiful beaches have became overrun with foreigners who think shitting in the sand and burying it is okay.Goodbye Canada,am Scotland bound in the new year❤❤
Definitely simplistic days and a lot happier times, love seeing the old cars and some my father had, father worked at the SMT bus garage in Thornleybank as a coach builder great to see some of the old buses , I laughed when I seen an old shop advertising the sale of Batman suites , remember getting one of them while visiting my gran in Paisley, thanks 👍
Glasgow certainly has changed since i lived there in the 70s. Used to be day shift mechanic at Ibrox Garage, which i believe is an industrial are now. These photies bring back memories which are very nostalgic... and emotional at the same time. Brilliant stuff.
Across from the Grand Central Hotel, those shops with canopies above their windows take me right back. I remember seeing them in summer now and again. You never see them now. I think they look very nice. You’d think with hotter summers, they would be used again.
Yes I agree and I've seen discussions on my Facebook page when sharing old images of the Streets around Central that had canopied shops such as Argyle Street towards Heilmans Umbrella. Before my time but looks much better, more prestine and class in presentation. Very nice but even nicer before the Railways if you know? An old book Quiet Old Glasgow the Latter Days before the Railways, I highly recommend 🔍🏴
Great to relive memories of my younger days in Glasgow. Thanks for uploading…..Can I ask you for any info on the St George’s Cross image (which is at time position 21.54) eg., photographer and/or year it was taken?? Many Thanks
Glad that you got such enjoyment my friend much appreciated ✌️ the image at 21.54 with all the people in smart clothing walking around the grand buildings, is that St George's Cross? I was actually drawn in to this image last night (I've accidentally included it twice, my apologies to everyone) the circular staircase that leads underground I haven't ever seen this design in any Old Glasgow Photos, it looks so nice! Toilets I presume? It's an honour presenting these Old Photos in memory lane and connecting with those who experienced it, Thank you 👍
@@Urban-Expeditions Thanks for your reply….The reason I’m asking info on the image of St George’s X- I lived at the view point where that photo was taken (position 20:54) I have several other images taken from there day & night shots and I can’t remember whether this is one of mine or not. Can you name your source please. I’m not looking for credit or have copyright issues. Just would love to know if it may have been a neighbour who either lived in our house- or possibly the top flat in the next close/entrance…. The year it was taken would be a great help. Thanks again for your time.
That is St Vincent Street/Place looking towards George Square. Public toilets are the stairs on the left . Those toilets were still open till the 90s . They had a very dodgy reputation. You can see the city chambers in the distance. Ian
Paisley road toll, I have never seen a sign for OGG BROTHERS, my granda stood at the old man’s rest after he had retired, my wee da was a carter and tram driver but also a docker from Plantation.
Majority are famous Streets throughout different eras, and some are not known for the Street but what is in the image itself. But feedback welcomed and I will do a Street Name one in future. In the meantime check out my Anderston Old Photos video which includes in each Photo the details of locations and dates. Lots of City Centre Streets to see as Anderston stretches into town.
Aaahhhh, yer not looking in aww the right places Susie Pie……….granted,we have more new buildings, not great looking,& more wee junkie rats stoating around, but in general,Glesga is the best place in the world,& I’ve live a few places, still got lots to offer, our old buildings, history,& mostly the people !🤍🩷💙❤️💚🩶🧡
Thank you, and I know, its my own interpretation and impressions I want to put on the photos, my music choice that is. It's actually more difficult than it would seem. Music tells a story in itself. What music would you choose if you edited it? And era? ... there's a multitude of different eras on display here, I would have to go from an old timey ragtime song such as The Entertainer by Scott Joplin to Talking Heads or something, can't do era essentially, only find suitable sounds.
Changed days indeed! Rose tinted glasses perhaps but they were simpler and happier times, for me at least. Thank you for the photos. Happy days!
Well done with this. The music & the vibe is perfect so please do more. Photos are brilliant and definitely makes me yearn for the past! Thank you.
Thank you ✌️😎🏴
Great video and noticed the difference from the old days hardly any litter on the streets unlike the dump the city is now.

Fantastic collection, but music is not really in keeping with this era.
