- In this episode of Behind The Ops, Casey Harbertson travels to Idaho to meet up with Ryan Avery of Rokslide.com, Jeff of LongRangeOnly.com and friends for a spring bear hunt in the backcountry. Watch as Casey takes you behind the scenes of this hunt, where unfortunately there is little sightings of bears but the experience and opportunity to be outdoors with friends makes the trip all worth it. There are encounters with Wolves while they are hunting. However, no harvesting footage or shots were filmed during this vlog. They had around 3,500 acres... Yes 3500 ......NOTHING has measured up to loading up horses with enough food and water for 3 days and riding out.... what an amazing feeling...Getting out into country like that you realize a lot about yourself...One of the things I realized was my family should have been building paint ball guns years ago!!!

If you don't read this comment, I don't blame you, I know it's long.
There are 3 kinds of people. People who don't mind hunting at all or even they hunt too. People that don't just decided on what side they want to be. And people that hate hunting and hunters ...... It is only yours choice on what side you want to be. But first let me tell you something.
EVERYTHING HAS BEAUTY IN IT. I know I sounded like a savage, what can be beautiful on killing an animal? When I was a kid, I did ask the same question. My whole family was full with hunters. Especially my dad. I hated it when he returned home with killed animal. I did feel sorry for them. But my dad started teaching me about forest and animals. When winter was bad, we would go out in cold and big snow with hay on our backs. We feed the animals in winter, so they have bigger chance to survive. He bought me airgun and I started to shoot on targets. He would brought me with him on hunt and more...... After all of this I finally understod what being a hunter is about, I did found that SECRET BEAUTY in it. It was long way for me, from being anti-hunter to being a hunter myself. All I just had to do was to LOOK AT HUNTING FROM BOTH SIDES.
Sad thing is, that you can't see that secret. I will say it in few examples: YOU CAN NEVER see the STRUGGLES and BEAUTY of owning a dog, If you didn't own one. Owning a dog takes your time and of course money. The struggles: You had to go on walk with him, feed him, training him, take him to vet, buy him dog food with your money ..... But on the good side: The dog loves you, the dog will make you always smile, when you are feeling down the dog is here for you to make you feel better, he would give his life for you.
YOU CAN NEVER see the STRUGGLES and BEAUTY of being a fireman, If you aren't one. The struggles: you can easily die in fire, sometimes you see person die in front of you, If you don't save someone just in time you can blame it only on yourself. But on the good side: when you save someone It is the best feeling in your life, you have some good experience, kids and sometimes even an adults look at you as hero.
As I did say before, there is the beauty secret in everything. You just have to look at it from both sides.
One last thing. On internet is anyone that guy with big muscles all over his body and power like a horse. Or that pretty girl that look like from a dream. Or even the biggest lover of all animals that know everything about them when he or she write a comment: HOW COULD YOU DO THAT? THAT POOR DEER DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO YOU! OMG I HATE ALL THE HUNTERS!!!!!! GRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! I WOULD KILL YOUR FAMILY!!!!!!!!
Like really? If you think that someone will respect you or fear you with coment like that, you are very wrong. Then another thing, You Would Kill My Family ..... In first place, I have loving mother and father just like you. I don't know how you would feel if I did say something like that to you too.
I will only (and so another hunters) respect those kinds of anti-hunters what did actually decided on all facts and experience that they don't like hunting. I always respect coments where is a reaseon why they hate hunting, and not reason like YOU KILL POOR ANIMALS!!!!!! But reaseon where he actually write I don't like hunting cause ........ Let me first say, I am not against the killing of a few wolves so please don't mistake this comment for anti hunting or anti wolf population control.
That being said I have a question about the logic of a comment made in the video. It was said that a wolf pack kills about 2 elk per week and that is why killing that wolf was a good thing. But would killing that one wolf stop the pack from continuing to kill 2 elk a week? Surely you wouldn't be in favor of killing the entire pack in order to stop the hunting of wolves? My understanding, especially based on what's happened in Yellow Stone park, is that wolves have a positive impact on the environment and deer/elk benefit from having an apex predator around.
Elk need natural predators to control their population so a case needs to be made that wolves killing elk is actually a bad thing and hurts the population and doesn't actually help the population.

The whole Yellowstone story is a fraud the POS wolves have wiped out the elk and the moose if you hate wildlife POS vermin wolves are great. All the rest of the story on Yellowstone is fraud no new tree grow the beaver were live trapped elsewhere and dropped off in the park another exposed fraud. Wolves have no positive effect unless you love barren wasteland.

I just don't see how that could be true. Wolves lived in North American for thousands and thousands of years and it was anything but a "barren wasteland". I doubt the whole Yellowstone story is a fraud as well but i'll do some research on that to see if what you say is true. I live in KS so I really don't have any stake in wolves at all. Native American killed the hell out of wolves through several different methods to protect their food supply that would be the wild game animals. For thousands of years no where in the world have wolves been protected but here. It's common sense to kill wasteful wolves as Teddy Roosevelt said.
Native Americans didn't kill the hell out of wolves because they thought of them as a spirit animal and they thought of them as family. They strongly opposed of the killing of wolves they thought you killing a wolf was like you killing one of them. Next time do a little research before you try and fight a point.

Many years ago before Walmart and mass farms us humans used to fight for ourselves and hunt for ourselves, we were sometimes so hungry we would eat whatever we come across, therefore hunting is not bad for the eco system or the environment as that is how life is intended to be, population of wild animals have spiraled upwards, and hunting is a natural and humans way of population control, think, would you rather be torn up to death by a predator or shot in the heart a much more humane painless way to die

I love animals but I've been wanting to learn how to hunt and shoot too. Is this what they call culling? I'm better when it comes to growing food and preserving it. Where do you start? Go to a gun range first?
If you’re wanting to get into hunting there are quite a few groups that offer mentored hunts and events out there. Such as NWTF, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited etc. Another good place to look would be facebook hunting groups for your state, sporting goods stores, and gun ranges like you mentioned.

Don't get me wrong I know hunting is essential in all, but here's the thing trophy hunting is just a bad idea, considering most of the Predators are endangered, so just hunt responsibly and if you do plan to trophy hunt at least use the meat.
Wolves have been de-listed from the Endangered Species Act in most of the Rocky Mountain states, and likely will be soon in the Great Lakes states. They're not endangered. Their population is rising.
States will manage them the same way they've successfully manged numerous other species. Do some research before making those kinds of claims.

Mountain lion, wolves and many other predators are on the rise in Wisconsin. The only way you can trophy hunt a predator is if they a lot of mass which just means more meat.
A) Most predators in North America ARE NOT endangered. The only apex predators with endangered status are the Florida panther, the Red Wolf (which is likely no longer genetically viable), and the Timber wolf in select US states (and that is likely to change soon given their population trends).
B) The video is about hunting wolves, so any comment about the endangered status of OTHER predators is irrelevant.
Maybe you should learn to tailor your comments to the subject matter of the video.
