    I've been watching your show since I was 12 years old and this is the first time I explored outside of survivor man *I've rewatched the series atleast 12 times over* and let me say this has reopened the same wild curiosity I felt the first time I enjoyed your show. Thank you so much for continuing educating us and putting it on youtube!

    I wholeheartedly agree with the previous commenter on how good this show is.. Survivorman by definition wasn't overly "polished" and that was part of the appeal, that it was real and relatable and authentic. But it's awesome to see he can also do a show like this that's relaxed and beautifully balanced with cinematography and music and "a touch of class" along with the outdoor knowledge 👌👌

    A new video from you is like a birthday present! Trout lilies, or Adder’s Tongue as they call it here in Indiana, is one of my favorite wild foods and I always eat plenty of them in the spring every year! Also, I use a hori hori for foraging, which looked like what you were using. Unbeatable!

    It truly is fascinating to see Chef Paul make so many beautiful dishes from completely foreign ingredients! Also, I love how Kevin is getting some love! It must be torture being a camera man on a cooking show so I’m happy he can have some food as well!

    Sumac is a popular decorative landscape shrub/small tree here in England. I see it often, in gardens. I never really appreciated its ethnobotanical value until now. Interestingly, it is in the same botanical family as mango and cashew (Anacardiaceae).

      @kdavis4910 Рік тому

      There's regular ramps up north too. It's just that Trout Lilys are way more common. They are another beautiful ephemeral spring flower, but with the benefit of being absolutely everywhere. I spend a lot of time outdoors and I'm hard pressed to find a forest that doesn't have trout lilys where I live. I.still haven't found ramps though I am considering growing them in my garden so I can harvest the bulbs without harming any native populations.

    FWIW, the size of the bulb relates to the size of the individual plant - all of the ones you found are quite small. I ate these often as a child in Ohio, and of course I made "pink lemonade" with the ridiculously abundant sumac.

    I enjoyed the episode a lot, but I was a bit taken aback that you didn't go into greater details about the history and potential ill effects of trout lily. It was traditionally used by natives as both an emetic, and a way to induce abortions in women. It's not something you want to just start making salads out of without testing your tolerance levels first, and making sure you're not feeding it to any pregnant women.
