Thank you for this. My mother in law was just diagnosed with sjogren's syndrome so I told her the best thing for her to do is eat a nutrient dense elimination diet, which is of course, carnivore. She is a recently retired nurse so I told her she's going to have to unlearn everything she's been told was healthy and unhealthy about fat, cholesterol, fiber, red meat, and vegetables in order to heal her autoimmune issues. She is on board and I look forward to using the knowledge I've learned over the past year to help get her in remission. 💪

@brandonalan6115 I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately my mother in law is a retired nurse, as stated above, and she is stuck in the mindset that red meat is unhealthy, salt causes high blood pressure, and fat causes heart disease. So she has continued to eat the same way that possibly led up to her diagnosis. No relief of symptoms and is letting her doctor load her up on prescriptions that will probably exasperate her symptoms. I tried to help her but you can only lead a horse to water. Best of luck with your family members.

It is a bit unsettling to realize that if I am able to convince people I know who eat standard to go carnivore they may have some of these side effects, initially.

In general, good info. For me, coffee helps with regularity. As for bone broth, people with histamine intolerance can't do any kind of broth. And then there's oxalate dumping...that's a long story to address here. People with high oxalate sensitivity should not go carnivore clod turkey.

@@Heartshapedbox81damage to the intestinal wall (gut permeability or leaky gut) can cause reactions all the way up the digestive tract including acid reflux. Bone broth has specific proteins which repair the tight junctions on the intestinal wall, allowing the gut to heal. It probably has an effect on the gut microbiome too, but I don't have data on that.

I've tried doing this twice, and failed after 1 day both times. I've had two drug-free births, one of which was posterior, so I'm not adverse to discomfort for the greater good.
The first time, I didn't take electrolytes. Began getting meat-averse towards the end of the day, and woke up that morning with a racing heart, shakes, could barely walk. Panic-drank whole milk, took a bunch of salt, no improvements. Bailed out to oatmeal, and my throat was terribly sore.
Second time, I handled the first day well. Then, at 3 AM, I began a 7-hour stretch of vomiting. I couldn't even keep water down (RUNNING to the toilet to throw up minutes after drinking electrolytes). I took some jello as a last ditch effort to avoid going to urgent care (breastfeeding, so a bit more serious to get dehydrated). It worked. Everything else caused me pain to eat (sore throat again).
I really want to do this! I have a good why (several, actually). But it seems I'm going to need to ease into this, which is discouraging.

What’s your blood type? This diet is heavily dependent on blood type. Only blood type O and B have the necessary stomach acid and gut micro biome to digest it red meat. If you’re vomiting your body is telling you to stop. Listen to it.

Thank you for the best summary of carnivore adaptation anywhere! I tried carnivore this year for 100 days in a row. I ate nothing but ribeyes and water, with occasional bacon and hardboiled eggs. I ate 1.5 pounds of ribeye daily as three meals, along with a stick of butter daily with the meals, and drank electrolytes. I experienced many health benefits, including:
Blood pressure was significantly lower (130/75 to 105/62) (July)
Weight dropped from 165 to 145 almost immediately on my 6-foot body
I sleep better, now 7 hours straight through (August)
Arthritis pain in hands is fading (August)
Depression and anxiety are nearly gone (August)
Itching associated with foot neuropathy has disappeared (August)
I am calmer over all by a significant amount (Sept.)
Gray hair is darkening and growing in more thickly (harder to drag a comb through)(Sept.)
Finger nails growing faster (late Sept.)
No more phlegm buildup at bedtime; stopped oral probiotic (mid-October)
I became very fatigued and developed bad brain fog once I started carnivore. Unfortunately, despite the health benefits noted above, the fatigue and brain fog never went away. I monitored my ketones and glucose with a Keto-Mojo device, and my MD's blood tests showed nothing unusual. My body had definitely switched from glucose to ketones, but I still felt impossibly tired and brain foggy. I was essentially confined to home by my low energy. How can it be that I healed in so many smaller ways, but not as far as energy and brain fog went?
Have you seen this in any other person trying to adapt to carnivore? I regretfully went off carnivore after 100 days of giving it a serious try, and now I'm back to having energy, but of course the health benefits I enjoyed from carnivore are gone too.
Any comments you may have would be appreciated. There must be something I was not doing right. I will try carnivore again in a few months and hope it goes better.

I've not experienced those issues myself. However, I know a few carnivores that did.
What they ended up doing was to adopt an "animal based" diet, which is a little different than going all in carnivore.
Basically they still eat meat and fat, but slowly added back into their diets, non reactive veggies(veggies you can eat without issue).
In both cases the parties concerned also made it a priority to consume lacto fermented veggies, which makes veggies much easier to assimilate and get nutrients from. So far, they seem to be thriving. No pressure, though. I just wanted to let you know that there can be such a thing as being too dogmatic about any way of eating.
My best to your family in the new year.🤗

    • @capealiaksin8776
      @capealiaksin8776 9 місяців тому +1

@@jacklabonte6839 Thanks for your comment; it's very intriguing that you've known others who've overcome the issues I'm having by diet modifications. As far as non-reactive veggies go, is there a list of such items, or do I simply choose the ones I like the best (I like virtually all veggies, kale aside) and go with that? Interesting to hear about lacto-fermented veggies. Did the people you know of simply buy supermarket sauerkraut, pickles and olives, or did they ferment their own veggies? I see that there are online groups devoted to that specialty. FWIW I did have a private online session with one of the "big three" UA-cam carnivore MDs, but he didn't mention lacto-fermented veggies.
It's possible I was being too dogmatic about carnivore. As a lifelong research scientist, I've been trying to do carnivore in the "best way," which is the way that many successful carnivores have done, the Lion Diet. Which may not be the best way for me in particular. I'll wait a little while before attempting another try at carnivore, which will incorporate your suggestions. One basic thing I need to do in the meantime is bulk up physically, to not have a repeat of the catastrophic drop in weight from 165 to 145 (on my 6-foot body) caused by going carnivore. I've put on several pounds of muscle using an X3 device over the past two months, so one day I'll be back to 165 pounds.
      Thanks again!

    • @jacklabonte6839
      @jacklabonte6839 9 місяців тому +2

@capealiaksin8776 My understanding is that the folks that add the veggies back in did so after a solid month of eliminating all plants and fruit.
After a month or 2 of strict carnivore, they very slowly started to add back in veggies of their choice(lacto fermented). The key, though, is that they added 1 vegetable a week, starting with just a teaspoon full. They put in their mouth, chew it slowly, swallow, and then pay attention to how their bodies react. Any itching, or tingling in the mouth? Any reaction in the gut? How did it make them feel mentally...etc. if none of those things seem out of line after eating, then they would increase the dose incrementally. Once they were certain the veggie or fruit in question does not elicit a negative reaction, then they add it to their personal list of foods that work for them, and start over again with the next veggie, starting again with just a teaspoon.
As for lacto fermentation. 1 of the parties concerned bought his, and the other made their own. Its pretty easy to do from what i hear. I only know what I've read and heard. That is, that it's a method of preparing veggies that makes them more digestible, and their nutrients more palatable/bioavailable. I can't comment if it lessens anti nutrients in the plant(oxalates, phytates, etc). I'd take a look at that.
Saurkraut is one of the most common ones, or kimchi, but I think you can ferment most any veggie you want to.
As for the weight loss, I feel you. It took me over a month for my gut/biome to adjust to a meat/fat diet. Lots of diarrhea. Its not a good time. I really only used walking as my fitness during the transition. I didn't touch a weight until I was fully transitioned. I dropped from 220lbs down to 175lbs.
Once I started to hit the weights again though I gained another 15 lbs of muscle, bringing me up to a pretty lean 190lbs. Not bad for a 50 year old guy. Most shredded I've been since high school.
Anyway brother. Hope this answers your questions. I remain 100% carnivore, but I also acknowledge it isn't for everyone. People can still be reasonably healthy, without being 100% carnivore.
Anything else u need, I'll do my best to help you to the best of my knowledge and ability.

@@jacklabonte6839 Thanks for describing the exact way in which folks introduced lacto-fermented veggies into their diet. I'm inclined to buy them rather than make them. As far as the fatigue goes, isn't fat adaptation part of the equation? In other words, although your body is producing ketones in the early phases and kerones are prevalent in the blood, your body is not efficient at uptaking or using them for energy yet.. my understanding of fat adaptation is that this can take several months and until that time, you might get fatigued due to lack of metabolic energy uptake...

I went to a really good nutritionist in my area they said low carb is good, carnivore works short term but you need to bring in low carb to get sugars into your system, as your body does use sugars, but it needs to be veggies and some fruit but not too much to have sugar spikes. I got a full work up on my food intolerances and you need to do that and see what fruits and veggies are best for you. For me the things I had intolerances too were tomatoes/oranges/pineapples and good stuff were things like most veggies, berries, nuts and sweep potatoes, so I'm not getting a carb spike/overload but just getting enough carbs/sugar and no more.
I started out doing carnivore 3 days ago and while I've not had much in the way of cravings my hands and feet are freezing and my demeanour is a bit out of whack., first night I had rapid heartbeat and sweating but am upping my electrolytes using a drink and taking magnesium.

I am a type 1 diabetic and have tried all kinds of low carb eating habits to attain better glucose control. I hadn't purposely tried carnivore until last week. I'm on day 8. The first 7 days I felt great, and glucose went from 81% in range to 91% in range. I have been extra thirsty since beginning this but have been drinking about one and a half gallons of water a day + salting my eggs and meat. @@starklife2426 I am still mostly sticking to it! My company experienced a merger so I ended up partaking in 2 pieces of pizza a couple weeks ago at a party, and then this past weekend I went wine tasting with some other ladies. Other than that I have been sticking with it! My glucose control is outstanding. Since I barely have any insulin on board I'm not having major lows from exercise, but if it does go down I just have about 3/4 cup of whole milk rather than what I used to have. Which was fruit juice or gummies with lots of sugar and corn syrup etc.
I guess I shouldn't say I'm sticking with total perfect carnivore because for a couple days after eating that pizza I was having sugar cravings again and ended up having blue berries and raspberries, but I had them after exercise, so didn't need any insulin. I have been doing really well sticking with the protein and fat like 97% of the time though!
So a basic summary, glucose control is awesome, insulin usage is cut back by 50%, energy levels are up, sleep schedule is on point, I can drink twice as much water as I used to with out having to pee twice as often, I'm not hungry for snacks between meals, eczema has cleared completely, and I can see muscle gains in my arms even though I'm still slightly overweight. I haven't lost many pounds, but my clothes are fitting differently. So this is the first thing I've had luck with since 2020 when it comes to the recomposition of my body while controlling my blood sugar.

I would definitely recommend gradually reducing addictive foods consumption for a few days (switch from junk food carbs to things like rice, potatoes, and less addictive carb options) and then gradually reduce total carb intake for a few days (start cutting down on the amounts of carbs for a few days until you reach zero carb). This will significantly ease your transition. I wouldn't recommend fasting at all if you haven't been doing carnivore for a few weeks. You have to be keto-adapted first before your body can handle fasting without stressing it out. Hope this helps😊

The problem with keto and carnivore is that I get less energy and by extension lower libido which is a no no for me. It literally becomes a hassle to climb the stairs, carry stuff I’d normally do easily, do cardio at the gym, lift weights or even walk, also my boners aren’t as hard and overall less energy in bed. I’ve tried increasing the fat(by literally biting and chewing grass fed butter). Also added Himalayan pink salt to my water before drinking(for electrolytes) but still no difference. I also lose vascularity as well. I find get more vascular from eating carbs.
Having experienced all these, when I eat carbs again, all of a sudden I get hulk-like energy, I’m hard again randomly(libido is on a 100, boner is rock solid and I can keep going), I just feel an influx of energy and I’m whole again.
Keto and carnivore diet have so many health benefits I’d really like to tap into but the energy part is a deal breaker for me. If anyone has an idea of how I can successfully switch to say carnivore without losing energy and libido I’d appreciate and will get you a cup of coffee. Please don’t tell me to ride out the transition period, some people say it takes them months or weeks. I can’t afford a day of low energy so there has to be another way. Except energy from fat is just always flat and not as high as carbs then I’d not bother myself with carnivore diet anymore.
    Thanks in advance!

My blood sugars were so out of whack I didn’t know this at the time tho.. I bought a monitor and started testing. Once I realized the change that was happening it was easier to understand I was experiencing a new normal blood sugar and my body was not use to this, I also had major oxalate dumping. My pee was really turbid and now it is clear and light colored. It was an awful time ; I made it through to the other side an about a month in I am currently sleeping like a baby. 7.5-8 hours a night. Also; I did learn that my vitamin D level is very low , my ferritin and iodine. All can affect your sleep and heart rate as well as cortisol. Doing blood panel really helped me figure things out and take what I was missing. I was low for quiet sometime. Energy is so boom in’ now!! But boy was I struggling in the beginning. I’m praying for anyone really wanting to optimize their health but struggling rn. Eating 1:1 ratio of fat and protein minimal cheese. Every persons body is different and we all have different starting points. I’ve learned to become very intune with my body. Upping my fat has seemed to help with sleep as it has helped regulate blood sugar too.

The first week and half was ROUGHHHHH and still dealt with falling asleep and waking up for about a month until I got really intentional with timing my eating and lowering my blood sugar and getting my Vit d up
Here’s what was happening to me time wise :
I would be woken up every single night between 2:30 and three o’clock and I absolutely could not fall back asleep. My body would actually jerk me awake anytime I tried. Lots of tears during this time. By 7 am or 8 I was tired and ready for bed. I was able to take a couple hours of naps throughout the day which is was the only thing that I felt kept me at all functional.
It was kind of weird because when my sleep cycle first started normalizing again I would get a good stretch of maybe 4-5 days of good good sleep and then bam it would hit me like a ton of bricks again and I’d not sleep for three or four days and it would cycle between that for awhile.
Once managing my blood sugars, stress , getting my vitamin panel checked and filling in the gaps ; upping my fat , using a weighted blanket to force my body into realizing I’m safe it slowly got better and better!! (I might mention that when I was checking my blood sugar it was normal to the range but what was actually happening was my body was so use to high insulin as I have PCOS that once it started to go into normal range my body thought this was to low and it was a major adjustment period. I did some fasting to fix it, got reallly intentional with everything I did. I hope this can help someone because when I was going through it I was desperate.

What do you think about carnivore diet and adrenal fatigue? It’s very confusing, because people say low carb diets are bad for adrenals. This will make people go into fight or flight mode.

Hi Dr. I have ibd and hashimotos and sibo that just keeps coming back. I am on third week on carnivore and just got my period. The pain is intense and still going through side effects. I can't do butter or ghee or cheese but i have been using coconut oil. Any idea why one would experience pms and period pain on carbivore?

I’ve heard another carnivore mention the uterus is a detox tool for woman where toxins collect so if you have painful periods it can be due to toxins were ingesting and then also during our period it would be the time to detox making it more painful. I’m only 2 months in so I can’t testify to this. The idea is it will get better with less toxins

This is a great video to scare anyone off trying carnivore.Sorry but focusing on these issues doesn’t help, as many people don’t get these symptoms, and those that want to try are now scared of what’s going to happen to them - which it might not.

Sorry but you are missing the point. Most people who are considering Carnivore have a variety of health issues that they are attempting to fix. When well meaning carnivore veterans dreamily half remember their transition as simple and non eventful, it doesn’t paint the whole picture. Yes eventually things regulate or “get fixed”, but it can take time. Being honest about the journey and giving tips is actually helpful. This video is for people who have already decided to start or have just started, to give them encouragement, and to help them with actually information they can use to combat those early stage pitfalls. Thanks for this video, Dr Sarah. It was helpful to me.

The redeemer is not JC, the letter j is only 500 years old and could not be the name. The name of The true Redeemer is Yahusha and the name does matter. Yahusha died for our transgressions on the stake. Yahusha is the Way The Truth and The Life. Has everyone noticed how beautiful these "carnivore pundits" always are? Look at Sarah's skin....she's utterly glowing. Irrespective of her age, etc. she has great "epithelial tissues". Sorry Doc...I know what I'm seeing here; you're an outlier.
So folks,....what have YOU got to lose, other than weight, pain, stiffness, malaise, etc., etc.
The reason "mainstream Doctors" don't totally collaborate into carnivore or keto-carnivore now....is not due to the anecdotal evidence....it's due to their' paychecks being tied to big Pharna....they are closely watched by video, by medical notes, and by Rx/Prescriptions written....as tied to their' incomes. Period.
    Wake the....."blank up folks".
