  • Covers the procedure to retract the EPB (electronic parking brake) on a Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2020 and put the EPB in maintenance mode. This will allow you to work on the rear brakes and install new pads as necessary. Since the EPB is in service mode, the caliper pistons can be compressed to allow for more rooms for new pads.

    I wish I found and watched this video sooner but the damage is already done. It's gona be a costly fix but lesson learned. I did watch other videos on it but it's not as detailed as yours, the know when to press/depress the brake pedal during the procedure. I fucked up on the service mode process. I did saw something flashing on the dash but it wasn't really flashing on that park button. As I was servicing the rear brakes, I disconnected the motor cable then managed to replaced the pads. When I start to try to push the piston back, it was rock solid. Now, this is the part I messed up big time and hated myself for it. I was a dummy and went back to the car and turn on the vehicle and touched e-brake button. The rear piston compressed forward and brakefluid spilled out. Error started showing on the dash that it malfunctioned and to go see a dealer. There was no way i could bring the piston back in now. Todays a sunday so autoshops and the dealerships are closed. I'll need to have the car towed tomorrow. Don't make the same dumb mistake as I did. Follow this video through carefully.

      Oh man….. sorry to hear about the situation. I can guess - absolute worse case scenario is a couple new rear calipers and brake fluid flush. Logic would want/hope they can re-use your calipers…. But I dont know. Dont bang yourself on the head though… swapping pads used to be a 1hr no brainer job. Now we have to go thru error prone procedures to just get the car ready to install new pads. Even mechanics do make mistakes on these systems. Good luck with your vehicle.

      @@wheresmyguitar tell me about it, todays technology is convenient but can also be inconvenient at the same time. I'm having the car towed now. I have a family member who works at toyota and can offer me a discount on the part so that is a relief. Let's see how bad it is.

      Damn thats crazy, Ive done so many brake jobs on my previous cars but now days with all these electronics and sensors you got on these moderns cars makes me a little hesitant to do it. I did it twice on my 2013 highlander and it was a very straight forward job.
      Time to do it on a highlander 2021 , wish me luck 😅

    This is ridiculous.....so do we need a cclamp to compress the pistons or the electrical brake mode does it??

    Hi Can you show us how can we replace the fluid for the transmission for Toyota Highlander 2021 hybrid

    • @wheresmyguitar
      @wheresmyguitar  Рік тому

      Havent replaced the cvt oil on my (this) vehicle yet. However, it seems quite straightforward. It involves removing the plastic shield under the car, then drain the fluid through drain plain and then refill. I found this post for a corolla… again have yet to do it on my highlander but should be quite similar.

    so in Maintenance mode, the Caliper is retracted all the way and all I have to do is replace the rear pads? this is so simple, no C-Clamps except on the front caliper right???

    • @wheresmyguitar
      @wheresmyguitar  Рік тому +1

      Hey Mr R. Indeed front caliper is same as it was with ‘old school’ regular calipers…. There’s no epb motor on front. For rear, service mode will retract the EPB pin inside the piston all the way in. The pin pushes on the piston when applied but doesnt pull it when retracted (service mode ). So in service mode, your rear calipers are just like ‘old school’ calipers. I would not use a c clamp myself for the fear of damaging the plastic housing of epb motor. I just push it by hand using the old pads if needed.

    Can I assume it’s the same for a non hybrid 2020 Highlander?

    • @wheresmyguitar
      @wheresmyguitar  Рік тому +1

      I havent myself specifically tried this procedure on a non hybrid. Educated guess is that it works the same - hoping someone who’s tried it will comment. Take care !
