This is the video to watch. I had to do it five different times to get mine to work, so y'all stick with it, it will eventually work. Disengaged real easy.
Thank you for being so detailed. I had to service the rear brakes on my 2019 RAV4 and looked at several videos about how to put the brakes in service mode. Seems everyone had a different method and perhaps missed some of the simple steps. Leaving the door open being one of them. Everything worked as you said it would (I forgot to reattach one of the connectors and tried to reset the system and that didn’t go well😅! Anyway, once I realized the error and corrected it, the brakes reset according to your instructions. As it happened, I paid for a dealer service a couple years ago and only had about 25Km on the odometer from that time. I suspected the brake pads were stuck which is why I wanted to check it out. I was correct - both sides were seized and I used a rubber mallet to hit them out. One of the slider pins was also dry and stuck. I replaced the brake pads, serviced the calipers, etc. working great now!
Thank you so much no I have confidence to do the rear brakes. I already did the front ones but was not sure about the rear brakes. Do I still need to pump the brake pedal after changing the pads? Like the front ones?
Hey brother I just got done w this. Was trying to update scanner and charge it and figured id check youtube. Zero experience w these brakes and brother you made this so much easier. After seeing this i left scanner on table and knocked it out. Thanks a million brother and best of wishes to you.
Thank you! I have a question about disengaging the brake per you 5:00 and 5:11. 5:00 you state to disengage the brakes you pull the lever. In 5:11 you state press brake pedal and hold the lever down for 5 seconds to disengage. Please explain.
This is no answer to a good question! I seriously do not understand and I even stated the time line that creates the question. Why don't you reconsider and answer one of your reader's question?? I will thank you again.@@BulletSolano
In those parts, he's talking about if you want the parking brake to be automatically set or not whenever you put it into drive or park. You can have the parking brake automatically turn on whenever car goes into park, and auto turn off whenever u put into drive or reverse by pushing the brake pedal and pulling up on the e brake button and holding up for few seconds and u can turn that same automatic feature off by pushing brake pedal and pushing the e brake button down for few seconds
Thank you for your consideration and thoughtful explanation. Bullet could use a lesson in life when someone ask a question that a person really does not understand. Hopefully, he can learn from people like yourself. @@Pure_Flow
We didn’t know about this and changed the brakes and rotors and one caliper, no I have a message saying “parking brake malfunction” do you know how I can fix or reset that?
Question, can you leave the car on service mode and drive it safely. I have been getting the maintenance EPB light on and get the message to take car to dealer. On the 2020 CHR forum, this has been a common problem......The warning light has cleared several times. Took car to At the dealer, although no codes came up, a code to replace the speed sensor on the rear right hub was recommended. Is this repair needed asap, or can I turn off the auto emergency brake to the off position to minimize tripping the maintenance light?? . Thanks in advance.
Don't need to release the brakes before service mode. Power on, hold brake, 3 up, 3 down, make sure park warning light on dash is flashing, hold button down... Done
Once it’s on service mode then I can remove it to replace the pads and rotors? I’m doing my rear breaks (2019 Toyota Rav 4) Saturday and have never done them before
Mann I took caliper off without putting in service mode and piston pushed all the way out, now I’m getting parking break malfunction signal and doesn’t engage at all now. Did I destroy the ebs motor?
I had the caliper of when i did this. It pushed the piston all the way out. I was able to get it back in, but now the dash says parking brake unavailable. Parking brake malfunction, is there any way to clear the malfunction?

Hey so before the service mode, when I put the car in drive it would disengage the rear brakes automatically and when I would put it in park it would engage the rears brakes. Now it doesn’t do it.. any tips?
So.. I skipped this step before changing my rear brakes and now I have a parking brake malfunction. Can I try to put it in service mode now or will that not do me any good?
@@BulletSolano I’ve got it figured out now. Gotta take it to the dealer to get the parking brake malfunction off. It was unplugged while put into service mode when trying to save the caliper.
@@TANNAMN I ended up getting a new caliper and had it reprogrammed since the seals ripped you can buy seals separately but it’s a bit of a pain. You have to leave the calipers on when put in service mode.
@@BulletSolano after this I watched a short from Technicians of the North and their method worked...Sort of... The button was blinking and I heard the motor do the long winding sound but the brake pistons weren't in all the way when I disassembled it. I went ahead with the job anyway and when it was time to put the caliper on, I confirmed it wasn't retracted enough so I took the motor off and used the biggest Torx driver I have to manually wind it back and used my brake spreader tool to push the piston in all the way. Afterwards everything went smoothly.
The piston doesn’t go in, after doing the emergency brake procedure you have to push the piston in manually like a normal brake job, but I’m glad that you get the job done
Not very clear instructions dude!! Even if you do retract the piston back pushing the button you still have to apply 12volts to the motor to retract the piston back so the pads can fit on!!
1:45 that the step everybody misses and get confused, get your foot off the brake paddle while holding the button.

Is it applicable to all Toyota models? Such as corolla, innova, hi-lux etc.
Yes
Great video! Thanks for making it!
Pumping the rear brakes pedals occur before or after reengaging the parking brake motor?
After
Will this method work when changing the brakes on front of a hybrid rav4 , to stop the piston pushing out electrically
Front brakes are not electronic
Is there not an electric pump that keeps pressure on calliper every so often ? I hear a motor run when I open drivers door ?
It’s the artificial pedestrian noise or hybrid motor, but front brakes are regular brakes
No it’s like the abs pump is pressuring up the brakes system ?
Thanks for the video. It works for my 2019 RAV4
Una pregunta, tengo una rav4 2021 con 63 mil millas puedo ya cambiar el fluido
De la transmisión?
Que tal si, cada 60 mil millas

Get a new one from a dealership, to put it on grab some silicone paste to slide it easier into the piston
