I’m very grateful for finding this video. We just purchased a brand new Toyota with the same Parking break. We didn’t notice until 2 days later that it makes that kind of loud sound. We called Toyota and was so upset because we thought we got a defective vehicle. This video educated us that it’s normal. Thank you so much for making this video. ☺️
This electronic parking brake saved me from being crashed ! My primary rear brake failed and my car started to roll downhill right in the middle of georgia avenue Silver spring l so I have push the electronic parking emergency brake to hold my car
Thanks so much for this. I just rented a Highlander and I have to stop and park on a steep hill to open and close my farm gate. Really prefer to use the parking brake but I couldn't figure this out to save my life! I appreciate your keeping us all safer!
I have a manual Corolla. Never liked the feature so glad I found your video. Looking forward to going back to old school, use it when I need it. Thank you
Just bought a new RAV4 and heard the motor noise when pulling into garage when putting in park and didn't know what the noise was. This explained it well. Thank you.
Thank you! Where I live in the frozen north, the parking brake feature was causing the pads to freeze or corrode to the rotors, and they had to break free every morning - sometimes not so easily.
Thank you! I just got my brake pads and rotors replaced and noticed that my parking brake no longer applies automatically when I shift to and from park. They must have disabled it. All fixed, appreciate it!
Hi Steven, thanks for the post! I recently have the message “ EPB shift interlock function activated” appears on the dashboard right after the engine started and then goes away with 16K miles on the car. I have the automatic EPB feature on always but had no this message before, wondering why I do see this message now. Any of your thoughts on this will be much appreciated!
do we need to disable the automatic parking breaks during winter? Will it not affect the breaking system? I am new with cars and everything sounds foreign :(
Good morning, I have a question. I have a 2022 Highlander limited. I have a hitch installed, whenever I’m backing up, and I have something on the hitch I can’t back up. It stops the truck very abruptly. How, do I disable that function From working while I have let’s say 2 bikes on the hitch. The camera see’s an object and STOPS truck.
In the event of an electronic or power failure, I assume these electronic parking brakes wouldn't work. Is there a backup somewhere that can be manually activated? (I heard some cars have some hidden lever under the dash or something).
There is a way to actuate it but you need a special tool for it and its not easy. IT wont work without power. Always good to have the item I reviewed in this video. ua-cam.com/video/ca0cY-2CfI8/v-deo.html
Do you know what it means if i put my highlander in reverse but the park light is on so my highlander doesn't move? It happens sometimes but not sure why.
Is the parking brake the same as emergency brake I’m not sure because I have a drivers test tomorrow and I need to know where it’s at I just wanna know if the parking brake is indeed the emergency brake for the Highlander
Thank you I picked up my vehicle from service and they had turned off the interlock brake and I was freaking out for a hot second because I thought they broke my park brake automatic function
Great video!! Question plz: Is that how I set the emergency parking brake for parking on a steep incline driveway or on a hill? I have the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid w/the same two buttons. Plz help! Thank you so much :-)
I was searching for information about the Prius. It seems to have a foot parking brake? Then I cannot buy one because I need a vehicle that can be adapted with an extra pedal to drive with my left foot. Four pedals.....
Steve I am wanting to deactivate this feature as it sounds like the car is screaming at my neighbors everytime I reverse from my garage haha. If I deactivate it once, will that setting remain? Or will it reactivate after every vehicle restart.
@@stevenwelchtoyota Though the sound it makes in reverse is horrendous as well lol. I wish they'd just simulate a motor, not a UFO trying to escape a coke can.
What about if a vehicle'battery with electronic parking brake system like this dies , will the emergency brake will be off because there is no power 🤔 thanks!
I think I found out the hard way today. Highlander lost power at a red light. Brake stayed engaged and tow truck had to drag it up onto their truck. Stayed stuck even when I went in manually to put the shift gear in neutral
The 2023 Camry LE and SE trims do not have an electronic e-brake. Toyota cheaped out on those two, because they are giving the consumers a naturally aspirated V4 engine.
Well I found out why today. My Highlander lost power at a red light and the tow truck had to drag it onto their bed because since pose was dead the emergency brake remained engaged. I had to pull of that cap by the gear shifter to put it on neutral since power was dead
I never had a problem with a manual parking break. My 2019 Camry has 24000 miles on the odometer and I have a "Parking break malfunction" message... what a nuisance... sometimes simpler is better.
I'm in Toronto and have found mine sticks in the extreme cold as well. Especially if I have my car parked for a few days between uses. I'm worried this sticking will ruin the brakes or rotors...so I think I'll turn this auto feature off at least for the winter
I want to deactivate my automatic brake. It is a pain in the arse...if you just want to move vehicle a few feet front or back, you have to put on seatbelt!!!!

If on level ground is the parking break necessary? Fear overuse of the parking break will burn out the motors constantly engaging/disengaging.

On the 2020 camry xle is there a way to hold the brake while in reverse?( I need to check parking assist sensors and no else to help).
There is not a way to do that. You are better off to get a traffic cone and place it in front of the sensor or even something like a block of wood
do we need to disable the automatic parking breaks during winter? Will it not affect the breaking system? I am new with cars and everything sounds foreign :(
Its designed to work in all weather. It is more of a preference.
So it is okay to put it in P shift directly from D when the automatic parking function is engaged?
yes
Can it be used as an emergency brake if your hydraulic line ruptured if driving downhill at 60 mph? If so, will it lock up the rear wheels?
There is a manual override. Not sure if it will work in the scenario you outlined

1 shifts to park the other is the brake

you take it to a service department and let them do it
How would you disengage electronic brake if the vehicle has no keys??

What happens if there is no power to the car? Does it still work?
IT wont work without power. Always good to have the item I reviewed in this video. ua-cam.com/video/ca0cY-2CfI8/v-deo.html
The 2023 Camry LE and SE trims do not have an electronic e-brake.

they all have. I 4 cylinder engine
tundra does have it
22 and newer does
what if you have no key fob, and can only remote start, but as soon as you press the brake it kills the vehicle, so cant disable, and cant be towed
it can be disabled
Would it hurt to keep it off ?
no
Ok thanks
Might be a silly question but what would be the point of having it turned off?
Some people dont like it. You would need to if you had to tow it and for service on the brakes are the most common reasons
Well I found out why today. My Highlander lost power at a red light and the tow truck had to drag it onto their bed because since pose was dead the emergency brake remained engaged. I had to pull of that cap by the gear shifter to put it on neutral since power was dead
2022 Model Prius Prime still does not have the electronic parking brake.
correct
@@stevenwelchtoyota Do you know why ?
Good to know. I will never buy another car with a standard parking brake. I’m making the switch to one that electronic only and with AVH.
Please update tundra has it
tundra has it 22 and newer
