2023 Pilot House Boats! Looking and Comparing Models from Parker, NorthCoast and Ros!

- I spent the past 3 months in beautiful, sunny Florida and returned to NY in mid-March to the cold and dreary weather March is known for. It's also the type of weather Pilothouse boats were designed for. They offer big aft fishing platforms with the protection of a Pilothouse which allows you to get out of the elements as your going to and from your favorite fishing hole.
This video, filmed at the New England Saltwater Sports Expo in Providence Rhode Island showcases three Pilothouse boats from Parker, North Coast and Ros. The Ros 24 especially intrigued me because it was a brand I NEVER heard of, despite being in business for 40 years.
Which would you pick and why?

Steiger Craft offers a great selection of pilot house boats from 31 to 21 feet with both a closed/door back and an open zipper weather sceen back for warmer climates. Lots of great fishing and comfort options too.
We have a 24 ros , have had it out 70 plus miles offshore out of port aransas texas and caught blue marlin. Its a good all around boat for cruising or fishing.
That ros is one bad arse tog boat, miss you buddy, I’ll be up for a few months till our new house is built, hope to see you soon.

Thank you for showing off our ROS 24!
Parker would be my choice but I’m a Mercury diehard. These boats just make so much more sense than center consoles, even in southern climates where you have a place to get out of the weather, hot or cold. Plus I’d want a place to take a quick nap and a stand up head on any boat I’d buy.
That Ros is an amazing deal
Thank you for the video!
The Parker is the one for me.
That Ros is intriguing. Almost reminds me a little of a Romarine or OceanScout.. a simple but nice working boat which I’m a big fan of to save some money. The Parker is really nice, well laid out boat but man those are pricy. I currently have a Maycraft 1900 and want to look more into their Pilothouses mainly for their competitive pricing and layout. But I do LOVE my Maycraft. Eastern, Defiance, Steiger also all make great looking Pilothouses as well. Great little video sir!!
That is awesome that you own a Maycraft 1900. That was my first ever new boat back in 2006. A great, tough, no frills little boat
@@jiggingjerks ya it’s perfect for Narragansett Bay. Haven’t ventured out far yet with it but in time lol… it’s a great, no frills, simple boat
Dude for 85k I would buy that Ross. That is the 1st I've seen. I'd want it with a straight inboard though. Really nice boat
The fit and finish on the North Coast made it stand out as the clear choice for me.
I can't say the same for the ones I've seen at the AC boat shows. I was not impressed.
@@SlipItIn.Fishing Same here. I saw the one they had at this show and I was not impressed at all. The Parker at the show was nicer.
Even with those chinsy little seats
That Ros caught my eye and I was tempted to go look at it. But I was hunting jigs, spoons, and a turn 2 reel. Ok and an impulse buy on a Dark Matter Rod that I was looking at for two years.
I like the Parker, twin engines, enclosed cabin. The Ross, the gunnels are scary.
Ros seems to be the best value out of the three boats even the parker 2520 isn't comparable to the other two boats. You definitely can take Ros and Northcoast offshore to chase recreational tuna ON A CALM GOOD DAY.
I want a “Davis” was hoping to see them here. They are in another class but you get what you pay for.
Great video I would take the Parker!!
And you’re not biased lol :)
i like steiger
North coast all day. The step down is the killer for Parkers. They should bring that floor up and make it level and they would sell a ton more boats.
Interesting video John. I am not a fan of those types of boats & prefer walk arounds for obvious reasons. That Ros boat had two big flaws, the Merc on the back and those really low gunwales! However, if I had to pick from those three boats it would be the North Coast. Just my opinion! 👍👍
The last boat would be the most economical for me. Its still over a hundred grand, though. I'm sure.
I like the Ros 24 even in Oz $$ if the $28 including trailer
Love the Pilot house style Captian John. Even if I plan finishing in Florida. Loved all three. I’m more the Commercial Utility style kind of a guy. Can’t wait to see the Eastward Coastal cruisers. They will probably look like those Noosa Cats, hopefully 🤞. Have you heard if Dave has the first one finished yet?
Have not heard from on the coastal cruiser but my boat should be hitting mold soon
My friend has a rossI go on all the time it is amazing eats chop and is very dry I was going to buy one but just boat a 24 judge
Judge is a favorite of mine. Love the simplicity of it. Almost pulled the trigger on a 27 Chesapeake a few years back.
The North coast was under $100k? Is that hull only? Ros a great value, considering trailer, electronics and trolling motor. Good bay boat, probably could use a 250 or 300
Yeah, not allowed to mention the price but it was. Remember that NC was the 21
Steiger by far the best!
I wish they’d attend some of these shows I go too. By far the brand I get asked to review the most
@@jiggingjerks Fishing friend of mine has one he bought new 10 years ago when he sold his body shop in NY, has an inboard motor. I love that boat and is still the same, he keeps it in his own warehouse in NY off season. The cabin is heated and air-conditioned. Installed a trolling motor 4-5 years ago.
North coast
still i would take the Parker
Have you ever seen a Defiance Pilot House boat. They are built in Washington. Have seen a few here in NJ. IMO on par with Parker & Steiger.
I almost bought one in 2016! I got scared off by a couple of private messages on the bloody decks forum (I had posted a question about them there)
@@jiggingjerks I actually like them and have sea trialed a few-nice ride. My son wants a pilot house (I prefer a CC). We’ll probably end up with a pilot house since it provides a place to sit/get out of the weather-especially for my young grandkids. Depending on who we talk with, one will talk up Parkers and talk down Steiger and the next person will say just the opposite. I truly believe there is no right/wrong answer-it’s just a matter of preference.
maybe my memory is currently failing me, but do you know why flip up bolster seats are common on center consoles, but I feel like I never see them on pilot house boats. I often feel like I would rather stand with a bolster at my back due to the closer to bow beating you take in a pilot house. Again I could be wrong, maybe this is an option and my memory is just failing.
It's an expensive add-on. Like 2500. Is it worth the money
@@johnwood1953 Thanks, I didnt know that
Do you have any info on the proposed 2023 fluke regs yet?
Unfortunately, none. If I were a betting man, I would guess they will be the same as last year.
What happened to Steigercraft, are they floundering or was this a fluke that they didn't show up??? Good video none the less!
They were not there. Missed opportunity if you ask me
STEIGER CRAFT
Steiger, no wood. Parker, alot of wood. Reference the used market and you will see alot of Parkers for sale but hardly any Steigers. 5-10 years or so Parkers are going to rot out. Anyone using wood these days you couldnt give me that sled.
Defiance is another solid builder.
Ross for the price. How much for the north coast?
Under 6 figures but am not allowed to post the price as a condition of being allowed to film the boat (sorry, not my rule and didn’t have permission to film otherwise)
That deck for me is too high, I would prefer gunnels with some pads to lean my knees on. This boat I would fall out!
This the one?
Parker’s are average at best. Many after 10-12years are falling apart. Steigercrafts are great boats but you pay. I had a Columbia II with inboard power diesel 26’. They are the original NE pilot house boat that Alan Steiger learned how to build boats from the Scopinich family. Made in Freeport and East Quogue NY! The best.
Still being made?
Ignore my first comment. I just googled them. Unfortunately, they built their last boat in 2019. Would have made a great factory video I think if they were still around.
@@jiggingjerks The grandson is running the show. Unfortunately they are not building boats. I had a 2001. It still being fished in Babylon.
I was focused on a Nc 255 HT, but well over 200k is just insane. Nice boat though, just not that nice
Go with the parker. Personally id go steiger 23 dv. That Ross looks like junk. The northcoast incan take or leave, i dont like the hull design. Its fun to watch people that know nothing about boats shop for boats. Its not Knots thousand herenin America. Its air, not ventilation. If you want a good boats with a heavy sturdy hull get a steiger. Crnter consoles are stupid, its always 5 big guys hanging of a pole near a 5 by 4 box in the middle of the boat, and im not sure how they even became popular, but as of right now, we may be living in the dumbest country in history. Went from the smartest to the dumbest in a matter of just only 30.years.
If it doesn't have a shower, I don't want it
Where are the Steigers??
Not at the show unfortunately
