    What's your favorite way to greet people in a video? What do you say? What have you heard others say in their videos that you like... or even find funny? I want to gather as many options as possible for a project I'm working on ;) Leave your favorites below!

      Boom! Yes! 😊 Hey, Rob. I'm glad you did this video. I saw Mike's video yesterday, and when he noted the "one person" issue, I admit that I did think of you (please, no offense, because I love your videos and you). And I then actually began wondering if you'd address his comments with your own video/discussion of this. Personally, I'm not "off-put" by your, "hey, guys" intro; however, yes, it feels much better and has the "like we're long-time friends" vibe, when you just say, "Hi, there, how are you?" ...as you did (and caught yourself at the end) in this video. By the way, clever juxtaposition/play on words with the title of this video. 😊 And to actually answer your question, above, yes I've seen others give intros that feel very intimate, while others make me feel like I'm in a sea of numbers... and the person talking could care less about me, and doesn't care to know me. As I embark on my third video, I was grateful to Mike for his video yesterday, *gold* I told him. I'm going to experiment with saying the word "you" more, in my videos... always keeping in mind that I'm talking with the one geology student that sees me after class, or the friend I've turned to when I need support about something difficult I'm navigating, or just as if I'm talking to my daughter. I'm eager to see how you incorporate these tips and strategies, too. You're better and better, Rob. In just the few months since I found you, I've seen that in you and was, ironically, thinking about that just last week. Now, if I can just get thoughts/plans cohesive and get outta my fear/stagnancy zone to get on that third video! Might need that coaching with you at some point. Take care, Rob 😊 👍

      Veronica on the channel “Veronica Explains” often says on the into, “Hi Folks” with a funny cheesy grin. But always closes her outro with “…..Linux is awesome and so are you!’

      I just remembered: I follow a guitarist in Florida (DOVYDAS) who opens some, not all, videos by saying, "Hello, one person who watches all my videos." ... It always makes me chuckle a bit. He doesn't do it so much anymore; but I always thought it was a clever "grab." It made him memorable, to me, as well.

    Great idea, Rob, and great video, though I have never minded your "welcome, guys." One of my favorite older UA-camrs (she's 70 plus, with 63K subscribers), Emmy van Deurzen, says "Welcome, by friend," singular. Something about that makes me feel like she is, indeed, a friend helping me, one on one, even though, of course, she's not IRL (in real life). And her calm style talking to the camera like a friend, with minimal editing, is something I hope to emulate in my brand-new channel about quantum health.

    Great information…I luv Mike’s videos also…I’ve already subscribed to him because I can relate to him…I’m an older new UA-camr and I want to really make it in this competitive platform and researching and listening to others who have made it will help me…by the way I just subscribed to your channel also…keep bringing gems.

    Awesome tip and great content! Subscribed. I started my channel Jan 1st. I just posted a video today and it’s funny, we are wearing the exact same sweater. You have great taste 😂

    That is the same advice I was given by my public speaking coach. He said, talk to one, speak to all.

    Another awesome video. Though it makes me slightly depressed. I have been on UA-cam for over a decade, and still can't get any traction. I have created different channels, trying different things, but never getting that many subscribers. I guess I am not that good, maybe I am boring, who knows. But that was an awesome piece of advice, maybe I will try to incorporate that in my videos.

      I think a big part of UA-cam success is the willingness to try new things :-) Good luck with it!

    Wow, am glad l watched this video, l am very new here, l have two videos on enlisted, trying first to learn all the things l need to do before releasing them to public, from editing to how to add wfitings, generally everything, I released two short videos just to test, without editing or anything, and l hope to take in, all what you've been teaching here, this is your 2nd or 3rd video am watching. Not so familiar with UA-cam gadgets, and being 50plus years, 😂 l need to watch your friend's videos as well. I will be glad coming back to watching more of your videos, l already subscribed. Do be blessed

    Would it be smart to have a picture above the camera of someone you are comfortable talking to in order to get used to talking to camera?

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  18 днів тому

      That's certainly one thing you can do. I've heard of some people doing this with some success... but for me personally, I didn't find it helped. Give it a try! UA-cam is all about trying, testing and seeing what works best for you :-)

    Me and my best friend call each other derogatory names upon greeting. Pretty sure UA-cam would not be happy with that! 😂

    • @RobtheMaritimer
      @RobtheMaritimer  23 дні тому +1

      Haha! Actually, UA-cam would probably be ok with it... as long as you disclose it when uploading your video ;) AND be sure the audience you're trying to reach is ok with it too :-)

    Maybe so, maybe no. My favorite channel, Belle of the Ranch, 854K subs, always starts with "Well, howdy there Internet people." After all, that is keeping it real.
