Thanks for sharing how my R1200R engine was made. It's a work of mechanical artistry. I used to make gear boxes literally by hand for GMH back in 1979. We would fit the counter gears and washers by hand. Syncros worked by hand until slid reasonably.! Lol
My 2014 R1200R Classic had its, first ride in 2023 this season. Enjoyed very much the first 35 km this year. Engine, drive train, gearing - everything works very smooth and souvereign. Comforting and sporty also 😊
Great to see people actually assembling them. I initially wondered why are they so expensive but after seeing this I'm thinking how come they are so cheap. Quality engineering and no I'm not German!
BMW have been making boxer engines for 97 years now. They are wonderful engines and you can tell when you ride one that they have been continuously making small improvements all through that time. I rode a boxer nearly 20 years ago and just got another one. The improvement during that time is really noticeable yet they have still kept the character that I liked about that bike. Really fascinating to see how those engineering improvements translate to the process. The new bike I have got is 1 generation newer than this one (ie the new 1250 shiftcam boxer).
Extremely an outstanding job, I like how passionate and the concentration they put in the hole process of assembling each of every components, no wonder why bmw bikes doesn't come cheap
Really intresting, i like the assembly station and clamp system especially when use pneumatics holding devieces, all is optimised for faster and efficient operations, it's very difficult make some mistakes during the engine assembly's, everything is clean and organised, but the top absolute is the test fixture measument of the entire engine that use multiple sensors to evaluate the engine performances. Thanks BMW, well done!

Don’t think I’ll ever be without a bike with a boxer. Each iteration is fabulous. R, RT, GS, RS etc. All a joy to ride! Can’t speak for the 1250 version, but the 1200’s are simple and bullet proof.
fashionskiller Yes it is standard. The reverse gear in cars at least used to be straight cut, hence the noise from the gearbox when reversing :) cheaper and meets the requirements.
Early Citroëns used Herringbone gears, like double opposed helical gears... This eliminated the axial trust produced by a single helical gear, while keeping the smooth running, but it was just too costly! And that's why the Citroën logo is a twin V-shape

No music in the factory, that would never work in our country. :) I used to work on the admin side at one of Daimler Benz' engine factories, I loved going down to the line, especially on Fridays after 2PM when everyone had left. Coming to work in the mornings and hearing the V8/10/12 motors running in the test cells was something to behold.

I have also seen the Volkswagen factory in action, and I had the same impression - nothing what the employees do is physically hard or very demanding precision-wise, but they work at the exact same speed for hours without missing a beat. Everybody does only his part, nothing less, nothing more, and if everybody does just that, then the whole puzzle just falls into place.
Machines that build machines are fascinating to me. The bags of water and carbon in the blue overalls are sometimes necessary to assist the machines too.
I'm on my 3rd Beemer with a boxer motor, all GS's/GSA'S...my next bike will be the same. They're not perfect but I love these things...I couldn't own anything without the boxer motor.
Man, I found this to be so soothing! And look at how clean the work areas are! It’s crazy how precise all the machines are. No wonder trying to work on a German made motors is so damn hard! They over engineer everything! So much so that there is little human involvement when it comes to the actual assembly.
Im 67 been rebuilding engines all my life..doubt I'll live to see the insides of one of these engines. I aprove of the balance here between machine and humans assembling .

The assembly machines are more complex and interesting than the engine's themselves.
Like humans are much more complex than both Assembly machine nd the engine..

Probably more reliable too🤪
One engine, two or more engines. It's not difficult. No apostrophe.
Hats off to the film maker. Great camera work. Perfect color temp. SMOOTH. Factory as expected from Germans. Thanks

I own both a 2014 S1000R and a 2014 R1200GS. I like them both, but the GS is still clunky while the S is japanese refined.
Es werden keine echten Boxer mehr gebaut

They can't hold a candle to a real Boxer. Modern rubbish.

I ma not sure blue collars worker are "passionate" about any of this. This is factory job for God's sake.

There's nothing like watching the steady calm efficiency of German workers!
German precision at its finest. So satisfying to watch!
They should have videos like this for every existing motorcycles !!!

Incredible video! Got to love those Germans man. Absolute precision.

I don't know why but I found this relaxing .
Mache gerade den Motorradführerschein! Freue mich meine neu bestellte BMW mit diesem Motor endlich abzuholen👍🏻
Extraordinary to watch, love my R12
Wow! I could eat off of the machines. So clean
I would love to build a cyclecar around one of these engines someday. 120hp would be plenty for a car that only weighs 800lbs.
Да, высший класс.
Мы, конечно можем их догнать, лет так через 50, при одном условии. Мы будем двигаться вперёд, а они подождут нас.
Если они навстречу побегут.... 🤔
Quiet, concentrated, precise, awesome!
Wow. I didn't imagine so much attention on a mass-produced engine. I just signed the contract for a BMW motorcycle. This video is exhilarating
It's like they have made it impossible to do a bad job. Real quality.
The robot production efficiency is amazing...
Looks like really high build quality, I like that it actually uses helical cut gears in the transmission.
Helical gears is a standard

The reverse gear in cars at least used to be straight cut, hence the noise from the gearbox when reversing :) cheaper and meets the requirements.
Straight gears are stronger.. helical are smoother

The bags of water and carbon have the most powerful machine of all… the brain. Without the bags, nothing would exist.
