Yeah.... We were both just shocked when we saw it. After walking past that spot for 3 years and never saw it before. I'm so glad we hung the lamp there.
Oh my Gosh! You guys I love your basement with all of the wooden shelves and canned goods! 😍 Brenda I think canning is so addicting and making a huge resurgence. I love canning especially in the winter time by making soup and bone broth which warms up the house. There’s something special about making something homemade and knowing what is exactly in the food that you preserve We have an 1860s farmhouse in Maryland and have a similar basement with exposed stone walls and root cellar. They did a lot of cooking at one time in our basement at an open hearth fireplace. I would love to make my canned goods area similar to yours! It is so beautiful.
I agree that canning seems to be making a resurgence...probably partly spurren on by the shortage of food during the pandemic. I think that anyone who gets into it enjoys the sense of security and peace of knowing you have food and that you know what is in it. Wow, I'd love to see pics of your place. I LOVE old houses. Is the open hearth fireplace still visible? Do you use the root cellar? We hope to have our functioning by next year. (there are a few issues with temp, ventilation and radonn.) Thanks for watching!
Just found your videos today, and I'm thrilled to see another 60's couple just starting out in homesteading/canning. This is my story as well. And there are many more in our shoes. Blessings. Love your larder!
This is my very first video of y’all that I’ve seen. It popped up recommended to me and I will definitely be watching more. Love you larder and now I’m wanting to see y’all farmhouse.
My mom canned for over 70 years and always left the rings on without any problems. Sometimes a jar wouldn’t seal and that’s normal and she would either serve that jar at the next meal or try again with a new lid which normally took care of the problem or it was a bad jar. She opened some of her mother’s canned food one time that was sitting for about thirty years with the rings on and she said it wasn’t spoiled and tasted normal. Sometimes the rings will get rusty and be hard to remove and that will be a problem if stored in an un-airconditioned space like a back porch, garage, or outdoor pantry like my grandmother had. Another concern is that rings will hide an unsealed jar but you can easily detect this by making sure the lid doesn’t pop up when you press it and actually smell the contents of the jar before using. Sometimes my mom would take the rings off because she didn’t have enough to finish canning with, so after one batch of lids had set and sealed, she would carefully remove the rings to use in the next batch and repeat this process until she was done or had gone to the store to pick up new rings.
Yeah generations before us did many times that they now say we shouldn't do and they never had a problem. I just feel safe knowing that if a lid comes unsealed for some reason I would know. I love canning and having food on hand. The newer generations have lost so many of those skills. Hopefully there will continue to be a resurgence. Thanks for watching!
I bought a pressure canner that sat on the shelf for months 'cause I was afraid to use it. My 18 year old grandson was visiting and I told him about the canner. "What could you can today?" he asked. Together, we canned 3 half pint jars of green beans. He hadn't ever canned before but just read the directions and we followed them. Now, I love the song of the canning kettle. Your larder is lovely! Lots of hard work. Lots of healthy food. Yay!!!
I am 59 and 1/2 right behind you precious one. I enjoyed your video and thank you for sharing. We just purchase our homestead on 12 acres and am so excited as you are. Cheers, Capt. Dan & Sandra Glover Livingston, Tennessee.
I love this!! Your basement room is so beautiful. I'm sure the orginal owners are smiling down in you and love and care of their former home. I think it's so cool your trying this life style and learning new skills. I would love to someday have a homestead . I'll have to explore your channel.
THANKS! We definitely appreciate our old farmhouse. We are both thrilled to be learning new things and living this lifestyle. My husband was in the insurance industry for all of his career....this is like his 'second act'. I hope you are able to get a homestead some day. It's a wonderful way to live. Thanks for watching!
Wow this is AMAZING!!! I have to tell you my self doubt was like “Boy I wish I could do that, but I bet she’s been doing it her whole life, and I’m too old to start (61) 😞”. Then your mic drop 🎤 at the end! Wow! Seriously you just started to can and farm 3 years ago?! I’m blown away! Kudos to you, you both should be so proud of your accomplishments. You are amazing stewards with the land and what Gods given you, I particularly like how you shared your family shops in your lard. I have a question 🙋♀️ were you always in such good shape? I feel so weak these days, but I know I need to turn things around.
Yep, we bought the farm 3 years ago and we've been learning more every day. I've always gardened, but it was on a very small scale. I can't believe how much fun we are having. Yes, it's a lot of work, but we enjoy it. Our kids are all local so it makes it very convenient for them to help as well as share in the bounty. We are VERY grateful for the blessing of this farm. As for being in shape, I'm not as strong as I was in my younger years, but I'm learning that I have to work even harder at this age to maintain strength. Last spring when the heavy gardening started I was suprised by how much strength I had lost over winter, but by the end of summer I had gained much of it back. I need to try to work at maintaining some of that this winter. Thanks for watching and best of luck if you get in to canning. It's addictive.
@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 Feeling that too, if I don’t keep busy my strength goes fast. I’m really feeling the need to build up my strength, my pantry and time spent in the Bible “these days”. Thank you for sharing this encouraging video. Shared it with my sister who was encouraged as well ☺️
Hi Heidi, 61 is not too old it is prime time of your life. That's when you go forward with life. My daughter is a personal trainer and yes I am lucky but she trains me 2 days a week to keep me fit with balance. Keep moving. Follow your heart and don't ever think 61 is too old. I'm heading towards 62. Start gardening in pots like for instance tomatoes, peppers. If you don't have the equipment to can then freeze. Take care and try something and then make you feel good
Your not to old hon, I started with chickens they are so easy, I container garden as can’t get down without help to get up lol I am 60 but legs got crushed in a head on collision…you can do what ever you put your mind to
Baby steps! A good place to start is learning to water bath can which is things that are high in acid like fruits, pickled items, Jams jellies sauces… I would love to help you if you happen to be anywhere near central Illinois
Hi, I’m a new subscriber from Lancaster county. I’ve enjoyed several of your videos and will go back to view your older ones. I love the way you and Don play off each other in the narration. Your voices are so soothing. I love your basement and look forward to new videos.
My sister had a house with a basement that looked very similar. They actually found some manacles down there. They started researching and the house was a stop in the Underground Railroad.
Canning is addictive😀,you get started and after that you want to can everything.Alot of hard work, but when you're done it's such a great sense of accomplishment.Love your Larder.
This is so true! I water bath canned for years and finally learned to pressure can 2 years ago and love it! It really does feel good to "shop" in my homemade pantry and there are so many things I still want to learn how to preserve.
Could I just hire you to move in with me and teach me how to do all this and get you to help me get started lol. Love from a Georgia wife who can’t seem to make this work. You did an amazing job. Hugs.
This is amazing! You are so blessed! I live in my husbands home which was built in 1876. {He unexpectedly passed away in his sleep this pass June.} Our wood burning furnace and natural gas furnace is in the basement. There is another room that has a closet in it where they used to hang meat to cure. I always wanted to redo this room and make it a larder/pantry, but never got done.
Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully our root cellar will be finished by next year and the potatoes will be so stored down there. For this year this is the best we could do.
I love all your shelf’s. This is beautiful all the old walls are so cool. Thank you for sharing your home. I just love stuff like this. You are doing great canning. It’s amazing from seed to canning to eating
Thanks! I am suprised by how rewarding it is to grow and preserve our own food. I hope to keep doing more and experimenting with different crops/recipes. Thanks for watching!
I started gardening 4 years ago ( little suburban backyard garden of 4 8’x4’s) & canning 2 years ago! 2023 will be my first big garden on our new property & I just can’t wait to get chickens! Oh my I am so excited for spring! Thank you for sharing your Larder. It’s really cool.
That's great that you are beginning a new adventure. I hope 2023 is a great gardening season for you. I absolutely LOVE having chickens. We have fresh eggs almost every morning. Here's a video of how we built a chicken coop : ua-cam.com/video/kU_xyT7hzCY/v-deo.html&t
Hello from Ontario, Canada. I know the feeling of showing my pantry to friends…..a great sense of accomplishment, I am into canning, pressure canning, dehydrating, fermenting and freeze drying. ( I have done workshops in fermentation) I consider myself a farmer without a farm…..we live in the suburbs and squeeze as much space into fruit , berry and veg gardens along with a greenhouse and an indoor microgreen/salad green room for growing in the house. If you are ever in the Niagara area, feel free to pop over!!! Beautiful pantry and keep up the great work. I agree, I am my happiest when I am in my kitchen
Oh how my mouth is watering watching this tour!!! Blackberry/lime jame?!?! I bet if you mixed that with some sour cream or plain yogurt, it would make a fantastic finishing sauce for all kinds of meats, also on it's own of course! But ooo la la, imagine that drizzled over some Cajun shrimp!!!
It's beautiful! The limestone walls, and wood shelving are the perfect backdrop for all that home made goodness. And your vintage accents and dried flowers add to the charm. I bet your family loves going down there. You've accomplished a lot in just 3 years - Bravo to both of you!
Thanks SO much. Not everyone appreciates old limestone basements, but I absolutely love it. My grandkids like seeing all of the food. Hopefully next summer I'll be able to have the older ones help me with canning so they might develope a love for preserving food.
I have a manual dumb waiter in my current home. I absolutely love it. A must for transporting all of my canning into the lower level of my home. I plan to put one in my next home as well.
Love this video. You have so much variety!! This was a lot of work. Amazing! I really like how your larder is so efficient no wasted space! Ty for sharing. I just happened upon your video and have subscribed
I’m so glad this came up in my suggestions. My dream is to buy a small property and start a homestead. I taught myself how to water bath can in 2017 and pressure can in 2020…I haven’t stopped since. Even though I’m not currently growing my own food, I buy organic and in bulk as much as possible. One of our favorite things I water bath is pineapple and our top 4 pressure canned foods are chicken soup, ugly chicken, taco meat and beef stew (it’s soup that I thicken). This video got a subscribe from me. I’m excited to go back and learn through your experience. God bless 🙏🏼💕
I'm so glad you found us. I'll have to try canning pineapple. I still have a lot of learning to do as far as canning meat. I hope you are able to have your dream someday. Thanks for watching!
I don't know if you saw our pantry video, but that's the first place in the house that we found a date. We were SO excited. ua-cam.com/video/RKli50_N2h4/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!
New here🤗looking forward to learning from you. French onion soup sounds amazing. Hope to see how you do all your canning recipes. Beautiful pantry and the date on the wall, just amazing, history, love it.❤️Christy from Va
Thanks. The French Onion Soup IS amazing. I hope to do more canning recipes in the coming year. The first three years on the farm have been busy setting everything up, but hopefully we'll have more time to video in the future. Thanks for watching!🙂
One of my favorite things to can is red beans and sausage the Cajun way with bell peppers and onions. Open the jar, heat and put on top of rice. OMG so good and so easy. Love your pantry. Beautiful ❤❤❤❤
I just found your channel and I love you guys already!! We sound like kindred spirits! 💕 I just recently learned to garden and can the last few years and we just moved to our dream farm! It has a 100 year old farmhouse and 14 acres! I am currently planning our garden! 😍
Wow, we are kindred spirits. It sounds like we are both really enjoying life. I'm so glad you found us. I'll be checking out your channel. It will be fun to share the journey. Thanks for watching!
My husband and I just found your channel, while searching for root cellars and larders. What a great channel! It's so wonderful to see another couple our age, doing youtube. We subscribed, and look forward to watching your videos. 😊
Bravo! Great video that you have produced. I love standing in my canning room and looking at my hard work. Also knowing that you don't need to run to the store all the time is a comfort.
Congratulations! I know the feeling. I think I am the last one in my immediate family who still appreciates this. I have at least one cousin who still does things the old ways as well.
I learned to appreciate these things later in life, but i guess it's "better late than never". I'm hoping i can pass the excitement on to the next generations. Thanks for watching.
I can't garden anymore... but... I've spent the last year buying jars... lots of types of clear jars. I've bought several cases of canning jars and use those too. I've now got every spice, every baking ingredient, all my pasta and rices annndddd... all my grains and cereals in jars. It sure makes me happy! Its good for us to be happy!
I'm sure it's a very rewarding feeling to have all of the food/spices safe in glass jars. Living in an old farmhouse, we keep a lot of things in glass jars. (little mice find their way into the farmhouse.) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tip. We figured that out when we went to use the first jar. It's now in a cupboard in our kitchen. New bee letters.. lesson learned. Thanks for watching.
Your video popped up because I was watching pantry tours. Your's thrilled me. I love your basement, it's gorgeous! Welcome to homesteading, you'll love life. I'm the same as Bethany. I'm sure the family that built that house is thrilled that you're there.
Thanks! I hope they know how much we are appreciating the beautiful house that they built so long ago. I can't even imagine the hard work that went into it back then. I get a thrill every time I go down into the basement. I'm definitely loving the homesteading life.
Thank you. We've been married for 41 years and although we've had a few "speed bumps", we've really developed a deep love and respect for each other. (And also have a lot of fun together. 😁)
We are often struck by how truly blessed we are to have this farm. I sometimes wish we had started when we were younger, but I guess it's better late than never. 😀
I m thankfull for our food storage. We got everything we need. We have almost no debt. And hope law suit gets done. And she than can pay of her mortgage. I will never understand 3 greedy brothers. You guys rock. Count your blessings.
Your jars look beautiful you've created a wonderful spot for them. This was the 1st time seeing your channel. I enjoyed it very much. Canning to me is peace of mind and afterwards it's a pleasure of accomplishment. I'm addicted to canning I've canning just about everything. Everything we will eat nothing that we won't eat.
So glad I found your channel! What a beautiful larder. We have one acre in NW Montana and I have started canning and preserving more in retirement. Merry Christmas!
Something I have learned...... when opening the box of new jars....if you cut it open at one end and take the jars out but leave the plastic cover on it will keep your jars from getting dusty. Just a thought! Love your channel
Being that you have a freeze-drier, got a good hint for different tomatoe sauces. Heirloom tomatoes are usually too juicy for sauces but give real good flavor to it. I cut my tomatoes about as thick as fd trays, fd and powder(I call this cheaters tomatoes). When making sauces I double seasonings, cook several hours and thicken with the cheaters tomatoes. I can even make paste in 3-4 hours instead of days getting a fresher flavor
That's a great idea. Our tomato harvest wasn't great this year so we didn't have many extras to experiment with, but that is going on my list to try next year. Yum! Thanks for the suggestion.
I would recommend a lip on your shelves in the event of an earthquake or other ground shaking event. Also, helps prevent accidental bumps. I am curious about the meals in a jar. That is my next project.
The shelves have about 1/4 inch lip. (couldn't really see it in the video) We almost never have earthquakes but that's definitely something to consider. I'd hate to lose all that food. I'm so new to this....lots to figure out.
I'm REALLY excited about the meals in a jar. They are SO convenient. There are a bunch more I want to try because we both love the beef stew and the beef stroganoff.
The paper labels may fall or "move" by themselves. 🤣 I recommend the Mazypo 20 pack mini chalkboard tags found on Amazon or wooden craft tags with a sharpie or laminated typed card stock with a hole punch and string. You could use a teacup screw hook in the shelf to hang them (so you can move the tags or take them off to rewrite the names). You could get really fancy and use metal label holders and slip the cards in the top, but they wouldn't be able to move around. I LOVE your Lauder!
I did the same thing this spring. I ended up taping the labels to the shelves to keep myself and my kids from bumping them. The tape comes off easily and I can change it as needed.
Thanks! I have learned a lot, but there is still so much more to learn.... Especially with the freeze drying. (Plus a million canning recipes I want to try.)
@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 My mom and grandparents preserved food and I have been doing it on my own since 1984. I always try a few new canning recipes each season and at least one becomes a keeper. I try to put up enough of any one batch for 2 seasons and rotate that recipe every other year. I find that blanching veg such as carrot and green beans do much better freeze dried. It rehydrates much better. Meat is a dream to freeze dry. I freeze dry a lot of raw meat such as pork loin, chicken breast, lean slices of beef, stew meat with fat removed, and burgers. I'm not fond of FD shrimp though. Those jars of beef chunks are always a keeper for turning into beef and gravy or jars of chicken for chicken salad so I still keep a bit on hand in jars too. Hard shredded cheeses, ham with fat removed and one pot meals are a favorite for freeze drying too! Good luck!
@@horticultureandhomes Wow, you have a LOT of experience. We've only just begun to learn all that we can do with the freeze dryer. It's like a whole new world opened up. It's amazing how tender canned beef is..........YUM!
I'm very thankful for this space. I'm sure my organization systems will change from time to time, but for now it's perfect for us. Thanks for watching. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful larder, fellow grandparent homesteaders!🥰 I’m SO so impressed (& more than a wee bit envious!😁) with what you both have accomplished, and are continuing to learn and share - you’ve earned a new subscriber… I’m going to enjoy binge watching your previous videos during the upcoming “operation deep freeze 2022”! 😃🥶 Wishing your family a Merry Christmas, from deep East TX!
I'm so glad you found us. So you're enjoying two wonderful things in life.... Grandparenting and homesteading. 😁. We are VERY thankful for our homestead. I hope you have an much fun as we do. Thanks for watching!
Nice larder. We moved from our beautiful old farmhouse in the suburbs and I wasn’t into canning like I am now. The people who owned the house before we bought it were evidently die hard canners and it was set up with even a Griswold burner so they canned down in the basement too. There was tons of shelving built just perfect for the jars with the really old wood. I would kill to have that set up now. 🥲 Thanks for sharing.
Just beautiful! Definitely hoping I will have a beautiful space like that someday. I definitely have all of the canned goods in equal quantities as you… But with the teenage kids still at home… and their stuff everywhere….my larder gets crammed into a tiny spot in the basement lol! I keep reminding myself I will be sad when they are gone… so not to wish them out the door too quickly… 🥲 But I hope…as you have…that they will stay close to home and continue to come back to my larder to glean.🥰 Thanks for sharing your inspirational space!
Yes, empty nest is very different than a house full of teenagers. 😁 We are very fortunate that all of our children have settled close to us. It's especially wonderful when granchildren come along. I hope you are able to be as fortunate in the future. Thanks for watching!
I am very thankful for all of the room to store food, plus that it's pretty. I've always loved old houses and the basement is the place where you can really tell our house is 180 years old. Keep canning!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your larder. I was really inspired, and enjoyed the different freeze dried items that you all worked on, especially having the herbs, and the snacks for little ones. I also enjoyed the variety of canned items, especially the fruits. My family and I are working towards having healthy items ready to use.
We are still learning all of the possibilites with the freeze dryer. I know the grandkids are looking forward to freeze dried strawberries all year. Canned peaches are definitely a must for me. I'm down to 2 jars already so I'm going to have to do more next year. That's great that you are working on having healthy things around. I does really make a difference if there are healthy options. Best of luck!!
@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764. The freeze dryer is something I’m looking into as a possibility to add on to the preserving options. It’s nice you have it. Yes they must be so excited when the fruits come around. Peaches are my favorite fruit. We are growing our first Peach trees this year. Praying it will yield a nice harvest, so that we can have excess to share and can too. I can imagine the canned peaches must get used up quickly. Thank you for your encouragement. Hope you had a peaceful day.
@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 I would like to see more of your canning..I loved Watching threerivers farm on UA-cam..she has a large family & my favorite videos were her "every little bit counts" challenge..I found out that carrot tops are edible and can be dehydrated & used to flavor ..have an awesome day!!🙏🙏👍👍
Thankyou for a lovely feel good movie. .. blessings and new-year celebrations to you from out homestead to you xx ive just subscribed. Looking forward to watching your videos. .xx
I love your pantry! Reminds me of our basement growing up. We never bought much from the stores but went to the basement whenever we needed food for a meal. We lived on a hog farm and did all our own butchering and had cans of lard, yes lard and we were healthy. Thanks for sharing and bringing back memories!
🇦🇺So when the freeze is over review what worked and didn’t work. Change or buy new commercial grade extension cords and review the power situation, run power to the greenhouse for the winter. We see each year the weather is unpredictable. There’s always more to learn.
I wasn’t paying attention to the end of the last video and then your post started. I subscribed immediately! I just started gardening and canning in the last two years and I know exactly what you’re talking about. I love it too 😊 I miss being in an old house, but hopefully we’ll find a beauty like yours in the near future again ❤
It's good to hear from a fellow gardener/canner. I've always wanted an old house so it's a dream for me. I hope you are able to find the perfect old house soon. Thanks for watching!🙂
Thanks. It keeps changing and adapting as I go. I find better ways for what we wind up canning/preserving. I'm fortunate to have such a nice, large space to work with. We're very thankful for the farm/farmhouse.
What a beautiful room! You've done an amazing job! Especially in such a short time, you have accomplished a lot. What I have started doing to store empty jars is to put them, clean with new lids, next to the full ones as I go through the full ones (I go left to right as I put empty jars in, so that I can see them and get them out easily) but I fill them from back to front, with the oldest batches up front to be used first. It's a little fiddly, but it helps me keep it all tidy throughout the year. My goal has been to keep most of my jars full, because they take up the same amount of space whether they are full or not. I like to have about a canner load of every type of jar empty and available at any given time in case a random glut of produce appears. This way I have permanently dedicated space that doesn't fluctuate too much. By summertime more of them are empty, but also ready to use.
That sounds like a good system. I'll give it some thought. I'm still learning and developing systems for all of our food preservation. Thanks for watching!
First time viewer.. your pantry is beautiful. I have no idea how many jars I have lol. I love canning too and growing my garden and preserving though I live in the city so I have to buy my meats and some veggies but at least I know what is in them which is so important today. I can't wait for spring to start growing again, every year I learn to grow new things.. I bought kale seeds from Bakers Creek last fall and Wow they grew huge and just now died with the heavy snow we got here in Ohio. Anna In Ohio
It's nice to here from a kindred spirit. Yes, Kale is amazingly hearty, but so is spinach. I have some growing in the hight tunnel as well as in the main garden. The one in the garden has fleece over it. There's nothing like growing food that you grew yourself.....especially fresh tomatoes. I'm already longing for summer. :)
I love canning and I am so jealous of your larder, just stunning. When I put up peaches, I prefer spiced peaches, just add 2 Cinnamon sticks, 1 tsp whole cloves and 1 tsp whole allspice. Then when the jar is empty, I cook down the liquid and make a syrup, makes a wonderful topping for pancakes and such, also over ice cream.
That's a great idea with the peaches/syrup. I'll have to give that a try next year. One way i use my canned peaches is chopped up in oatmeal with pecans. The spices would make that even better. Thanks!
Thanks for the compliment. We got a lot of the things off facebook marketplace....great place to find 'cute' storage options. I hope your basement turns out beautiful and that you are able to realize the dream of a real homestead. It happened later in our lives, but better late than never. 😁
@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 Thank you so much. It has granite rough cut walls. May you have much joy on your homestead! I am urban but even have chickens. God provides.
I just came across your channel and subscribed. Your pantry is so cute and it was fun to see everything you did. You are just so adorable and cute! Your channel deserves so many more views! I’ll keep watching.
Love your larder, here in south texas we can’t have basements they become filled with water over night lol I canned up 20 lbs of stew meat , and chicken, pork loin, when I processed my meat chickens I only valcumn sealed breast, wings, legs and thighs at 7-8 lb chickens a 1/2 feeds 4 adults just fine, i then boiled down carcass made broth and I took all the meat and canned and froze it for later meals I gave skins and cartilage to the dogs for a treat they crowd me while I am picking the cooked meat off the bones knowing they are getting a treat 😊. I have 3 large shake containers filled with my dehydrated soup veggie mix, hubby and kids love the simple ramin soup I make with those dehydrated veggies and a frozen pack of that chicken meat I valcumn sealed 1 cup packages just for that meal I am to tired to do more night. Meat, veggies and 1 crunched up pack of ramin feeds 4 adults. I raised the meat, grew the veggies so only had to buy the ramen 😁
I feel like canning is a lost art in the uk now, not many people do it. I'm changing my diet to eat more healthier and I'm learning how to cook nutrious foods. Hopefully at some point in my life I will be able to garden and preseve my own food. I am 23 so I still have plenty of time to learn! Sending love from Oxfordshire, England.
It's sad that canning isn't as popular as it used to be. It's such a great way to store food. It's exciting that you are starting your journey so early in life. ENJOY!!!
New subscriber here. I love your pantry room as well! Even comes with its own 1880 signature penned by someone who likewise saw the value in this room!
I came here thinking "Oh she's been doing this for years." You've only been doing this for 3 years! Love it1
Thanks!!! It's been a crazy 3 years.... I made quite a few mistakes, but I'm having the time of my life. 🙂

We have an 1860s farmhouse in Maryland and have a similar basement with exposed stone walls and root cellar.

I love your basement too! You are definitely “living a life well lived”. Enjoy!
Not everyone can appreciate an old limestone basement, but to me it's one of the coolest parts of the farmhouse. We are definitely enjoying life. :)

So glad to be able to come back and see the progress you’ve made 😍🥰💞💖💝
Thanks! 😁
The walls are beautiful and job well done on the larder and its contents.
Thanks for watching. We're loving this part of our old farmhouse. 😊
Absolutely beautiful, well worth the time and effort.
Thanks! It's definitely worth it....plus I love doing it. :)
Yay!!!
I'm so glad your grandson gave you the encouragement you needed. Now anything is possible. 😁 Thanks for watching!
Wow! New subscriber here! Finding your channel is a true Christmas blessing! I just love your enthusiasm! Now off to binge watch your videos 😄
I'm so glad you found us. I hope you enjoy the other videos. We've had to learn a lot in the last 3 years. Thanks for watching!
I think by far, your pantry has more charm than I have seen anywhere else. Beautiful!
Thanks!! Not everyone appreciates old stone-walled basements, but I LOVE it. Thanks for watching!
Wonderful larder tour! First time watching and I subscribed. Blessings Abound.
I'm glad you found us. Thanks for watching!!!🙂
It was so enjoyable watching you both talk in such a relaxing way during the pantry tour. It was very encouraging. 😊
Thanks... We do have a lot of fun together. 🙂
I am 59 and 1/2 right behind you precious one. I enjoyed your video and thank you for sharing. We just purchase our homestead on 12 acres and am so excited as you are. Cheers, Capt. Dan & Sandra Glover Livingston, Tennessee.
So good to hear from a kindred spirit. It is so exciting to embark on a new adventure. Best of luck on your new homestead. Thanks for watching!
What a wonderful discovery! And I love all your progress in growing, harvesting and preserving your food. What a great job!
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm thrilled to be able to provide for our family this way.
Hi, I’m a new subscriber from Lancaster county. I’ve enjoyed several of your videos and will go back to view your older ones. I love the way you and Don play off each other in the narration. Your voices are so soothing. I love your basement and look forward to new videos.
I'm glad you found us. You're very close to us....we're in Mechanicsburg. Thanks for watching! 🙂
My sister had a house with a basement that looked very similar. They actually found some manacles down there. They started researching and the house was a stop in the Underground Railroad.
Wow, that's a real piece of history.
Canning is addictive😀,you get started and after that you want to can everything.Alot of hard work, but when you're done it's such a great sense of accomplishment.Love your Larder.
It is REALLY addictive. I couldn't have imagined how rewarding it is.
Hugs.
You're so sweet!!! Up until three years ago I wouldn't have thought I could do it either......Thanks for watching!
Thank you .....we are definitely blessed. I' so sorry you lost your husband. I hope that living in his home brings some comfort.
Great work! Keep your onions away from the potatoes...preferably in another room...and the potatoes will last a lot longer
It's great to hear from a kindred spirit. We'll keep that in mind if we ever get up your way. Thanks for watching!!!

Oh man, that is a great idea!!! I'm gonna have to give that a try. Thanks for watching and giving me great suggestions.
Your basement is a dream room! Wow!
Thanks! We LOVE our basement. (not too many people can say that---HAHA) Thanks for watching!
I guess it would actually be better than hauling stuff up and down the stairs.... Something to consider.
Love this video. You have so much variety!! This was a lot of work. Amazing! I really like how your larder is so efficient no wasted space! Ty for sharing. I just happened upon your video and have subscribed
I'm glad you found us. I can't believe how much i enjoy canning. Hope to do some canning videos in the future. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful and Awesome. Hugs ❤
Thanks for watching!!!🙂
Love all your fruit preserves!! Can't wait to get to this level 🥰 Also love to see the Larder, I grew up in a 1900's house, miss it so much!
I enjoy those fruit preserves a LOT. Yes, older houses have a certain charm. Thanks for watching!
Freeze dried pineapple is amazing, so try that, too!
Lol, you found the writing on the wall! Beautiful larder!

That sounds scrumptious!!! I'm gonna have to try it. Thanks for watching.
Your basement is beautiful i can see why your in love with it… those limestone walls are a show stopper- all your food looks delicious

Honey kept that cool is going to go solid real fast. I keep my honey in my kitchen cupboards to keep them liquid.
Thanks for the tip. We figured that out when we went to use the first jar. It's now in a cupboard in our kitchen. New bee letters.. lesson learned. Thanks for watching.

I'm glad you found us too. ☺ I'm loving this stage of life, especially being able to garden and preserve lots of food. Merry Christmas to you!
Enjoyed seeing your larder. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Something I have learned...... when opening the box of new jars....if you cut it open at one end and take the jars out but leave the plastic cover on it will keep your jars from getting dusty. Just a thought! Love your channel
Thanks! That would keep them cleaner. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the suggestions. This is the first year I put any labels on and I do need a better system. Thanks for watching!
I did the same thing this spring. I ended up taping the labels to the shelves to keep myself and my kids from bumping them. The tape comes off easily and I can change it as needed.
@@lastroseofsummer1 Good idea and an easy fix. Thanks!
You've come a long way Brenda! I love the larder too.

Wow, that does sound like a sweet set-up. Luckily you are able to can anywhere. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!

Just watched your larder tour. Amazing! My future goals. I've always had a nice pantry supply, but need it more organized. Great job❤
Thanks. It keeps changing and adapting as I go. I find better ways for what we wind up canning/preserving. I'm fortunate to have such a nice, large space to work with. We're very thankful for the farm/farmhouse.
What a beautiful space and impressive bounty. Love it!
Thanks....we are absolutely thrilled to have such a space.

Thanks!
Out of all the produce we canned this year the canned beans (pinto and great northern) have been our absolute favorite thing!
So far I've only done kidney beans, but hope to try others. Thanks for watching!
What an inspiration. Looks like I will be working on my basement today. Still working on getting a real homestead. Baby steps and a lot of faith!
You are SOO kind! Thanks for the compliments and for watching. We're very happy that we started this lifestyle and enjoy sharing it with others.
Wow, you were busy. It is such an amazing feeling to have good, nutritious food on hand for the entire family. Thanks for watching.
@@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764 I totally agree 😁
I love how the dates show up in various places. When we do the barn video you'll see there are dates in there too. Thanks for watching!
Great video; wonderful tag-teaming info sharing :)
Thanks for watching. We are having so much fun on our farm.... Never too old to learn new things.
