  • In this video I'll try to see if I can use NETGEAR 1200 Powerline Adapters to connect my Primary Wireless Router to an Access Point!! I run some speed tests between them to see if I should or should not do that! Hope you like this video! Please don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe! Thanks :-)

    When it comes to plugging in the device & finding the best power socket, it's color coded on the pick a plug LED indicator. That would have saved you a ton of time.

    The difference in test results is likely due to the pair of powerlines being on different electrical circuits. If you want powerline to perform well in a nearby room you can test your circuits by shutting them off one by one. Hopefully an outlet in the room where router resides is also paired with an outlet in the room where you need the other powerline.

    I can say for a situation like mine, for example rather than spend money on point to point or running a new cat 6 cable from my house to my barn, they are a good option. In my situation my barn feed comes from the main panel in the house so they are on the same meter. which this gives me internet access in the barn via the netgear adapters that have built in wifi as well. however my only real reason to get internet to the barn is to station cameras to get a better view of the property. I do have my house wired for gigabit, all gigabit gear and also fiber at 1Gbps symmetrical. while my speeds in the house of course test out close to it. over powerline the best i could get was 130 mbps down and up which is fine for all i need it to do. however if I planed to have a man cave outside of the house i would run a line to it. everyones situation is different. powerline is a good option for this to me, however it fits what i want to do. however in a house i can see if you dont have many or any ethernet drops in the house but need to hardware something this could be useful however dont expect to get full speed almost expect it to seem more like a wireless wired connection in a sense of speed depending on the range. you would almost be better in that sense to just get a good access point and decent equipment and get the same or better results.

    Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve been using the TP-Link Av1200 3 port power line adapters now for a couple years. The first pair was a Christmas gift. I just moved to a new home and recently bought another pair to expend my connectivity and stumbled upon the AiMesh technology. I have a few questions, do you have some sort of other Medium to better communicate? I’d greatly appreciate it.

    When testing Laptop to Laptop via Powerline, did you assign static IP addresses to the laptops? When I tried this, my laptops were DHCP enabled and got APIPA IP addresses assigned. I couldn't ping between the two APIPA addresses so, I assigned static IP addresses and still wouldn't work. Powerline does work when hooked up to my network via a switch and router and I can ping. It just won't work when hooked up directly between the 2 laptops.

      @ccf805 3 роки тому

      Although I wasn't able to ping between the 2 laptops before running iperf3, I ran and iperf3 and it worked! I was expecting I had to be able to ping between the 2 laptops before I could successfully run iperf. I was also able to run it with APIPA and with static IP addresses. Thanks for your video and introducing me to iperf!

      Use an online wifi speed detector on your smartphone (google how fast is my wifi) when stood next to your router and the speed via the Powerline will be around of what your router is providing. However the stability of a ‘wired’ connection is the benefit here. My son’s Xbox One X was receiving 165Mbps in his bedroom over wifi but still suffered from lag. Now it is hardwired via a Powerline he gets 90Mbps but Fortnite and CoD NEVER lag and the games are visible better to play. Best money I’ve spend and no more GOD DAMN LAG screaming.

    I recently had att fiber put in and went to best buy for these.Plugged in,got the three green lights and logged in.Tried everything but only got 30 to 40 mbps .Took em back to best buy for refund.Stopped at home depot on the way back and bought 100 ft. of cat5e for 14 bucks and ran the cat5 under the carpet and thru 2 walls unseen straight to the computer.968 mbps down,980 up.Yes,more work,but the results were worth it.

      @@Behfor I really wanted these to work,I moved them around and reset them multiple times and spent many hours on settings and such.But it just did not matter,I even had the att fiber install tech here with me at the time checking for interference and giving suggestions.My house was built in 1990 so maybe that is why,I dont know,but,I tried really hard to make these work better with limited results.This was on a dell desktop bout 30 feet away.

    As other reviewers have shown +/-100 Mbps is normal for AV2 Powerline adapters. This is more than good enough for multiple 1080P or 4K video streams.
    You repeatedly say that Powerline adapters aren't reliable, but nothing in your video (or my several years of using them) justifies that. Why do you raise this as an issue?

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  5 років тому +6

      I didn't "repeatedly" say these aren't reliable, said it maybe once or twice! Yes +/-100 might be good for video streaming purposes but only if you get that speed all the time. Unfortunately with powerline adapters (as I said in the video) many factors are involved that can decrease the spreed and there is no guarantee you get 100Mbps all the time, one minute it can be 10Mbps another minute 100Mbps. Again, as I said in the video, I would only use these to connect "end devices" to my network and not 2 wireless routers together and that was the whole point because even 100Mbps can be a major bottleneck for connecting wireless routers! If you never had any speed issues with your adapters then good for you! Thanks!

      I have 4K videos with 50MBps, so 100Mbps is definitely not enough.

    I just bought the PL1000 v2 and I'm getting the full 30 Mbps on my desktop which is in the living room, so one adapter is in my bedroom while the other is in the living room, the first adapter is connected to a Multi-Plug Outlet which still gives me the full 30 Mbps speed and the second one is directly connected to the wall socket. Go figures.

    150 Mbps (18 MB/s) in the same room is terrible for the advertised 1200 Mbps. I get more than 150 Mbps using 5GHz wifi 2 rooms away from my router.
