I have the Netgear powerline adapter AV500. They drop out sometimes. Also I use Chromecast to stream movies. It uses wireless and sometimes I can't connect to my Chromecast device. Should I replace my Netgear AV 500 powerine and get the Netgear 1200?
Ok so my router is in our basement and my computer is 1 floor up and about 20 ft over away from it, would these 2 adapters run smoothly at a distance like that? Also our walls and ceilings are drywall if that matters.
Is this good for low ping gaming? I really hope so because my ping has been going bonkers, especially since I'm running wireless, 1 floor above, with my bed on the floor above.
This reviewer is a bit uninformed. He accuses Netgear of lying about its connection speed...because he apparently doesn't understand how these devices work at all. First and foremost these are half duplex devices that use carrier sense to verify before they communicate. The reviewer points out that Gigabit is limited to...duh...a GIGABIT...so how can it be a 1.2 Gigabit system? 1.2 is a reference to the network backbone which only matters when you have more than 2 of these devices. Honestly CNet, could network devices please be reviewed by someone that knows something about networking?!
A gigabit Ethernet port can go faster than 1000 mbit/s if you are uploading and downloading at the same time. Gigabit Ethernet is a full duplex connection, and generally tops out at 1400mbit/s when uploading and downloading at the same time. Powerline networking has similar overhead to WiFi where the top real world speed is half the PHY rate.
Ok. I have a question , if you have fiber with router installed , whats the expected speed with homeplug?. My wifi reciever gets 200mbit/s down and 190mbit/s up.
@ 01:26 to 01:31 .... Excuse me! Do what to both of them into the wall socket? I'm pretty sure that is illegal everywhere except for West Virginia and Alabama.
+Kongolox Powerline is more reliable and has more consistent ping times but AC WiFi is faster and has lower ping times. IMO all forms of networking can easily inconvenient though, be it WiFi, direct ethernet and powerline. Powerline when you have a lack of power sockets, ethernet when you don't want to run wires and WiFi when you are transmitting far away.
Well why would I want to get those if there are other ones that are going to be coming out soon even faster than those so basically get these now and a month from now you will see a faster one and be like damn I'm glad I got these now because I could have waited one month and got something even faster makes no sense dude
i can't understand wtf this guy is saying! get it now why? because in the near future it will be even faster??? hu??? that's a great reason to wait! i don't get it .. and he's hard to understand
Can any tell me what is the range ,say if i have 1in the house could i connect the other 2 a garage or building 1200 2000 feet away
so this will work with D-link AV 500 without any issue?
IbHave a question , i have netgear powerline 1000 (PL 1000) you
Think i can use netgear powerline 1200 adapter to it?

I bought a pair of these for about $65 and they work fine. They also work with some older Netgear Powerline devices.
"That's no lie"
Dong don't lie so this statement is accurate
Your office is beautiful!

+SourPeach1 I think so. My two are about 60ft apart and the throughput is super.
When I saw that this video was internet related I knew exactly who would talk about it... Dong!!!! :)
My current router is a Linksys EA6300...Will the NetGear 1200 work with my Linksys router, or does my router "have to be" Netgear?
These devices are just extenders for any Ethernet. Brand doesn't matter, any 10/100/1000 Ethernet device should work just fine with them.

Also, if I get the 1000 model (which I believe is a little cheaper), will it have the same performance?
iTacticalRaccoon Hey man, did you ever figure this out? Cause it’s the same for me
Yeah it is
How do I get just one additional unit? I need it to plug in at 2 spots so I need 3 total boxes if that makes sense.
Netgear does not sell Powerlines in individual units. You can only buy them in two's
Check out eBay, I've seen them sold as single unit's for less than $30.
Good for my 6mbps AT&T Internet

How does the ping compare to wireless?
Catch 22 Generally speaking, these r better than wireless and worst than wired connection.
+kongolox nothing is better than wired connection

Why is there a red light in mine
do you have to have netgear router
Nope, will work with any router
Is this sulu from Star Trek .
The donger is back!

+Jason Bartoles because you will always be waiting. There will always be something better coming out soon. You just gotta jump in at some time.
only came here for Dong Ngo
Dong Ngo if you teamed up two adapters in the one room via a router that has teaming mode you believe double the speed is possible
This will go great with my 3Mbps AT&T internet!
-_-
Same thing for me
I have u-verse 30 Mbps it's not that expensive. But that is if you get deals in the mail or emails lol.
serendipity9defined The power 45/8 is pretty nice. Coming soon 75/12! My modem actually says its capable of 128Mbps Down and 25Mbps Up. :D
400 is not HALF of 1000!
2nd
First!
