It's because it's near impossible to get parts for them. I'm having an extremely difficult time rebuilding mine because most every part I need is discontinued
my best guess from sight unseen would be in your spark. do a tune up, plugs and wires, see if that makes a change. simple fuel test is turn your fuel on/off through that problem range and if it makes no difference you have narrowed it to not a fuel issue. hope that helps.
nice looking bike. looking at videos about the connector of the stator melting . loose connection is the problem with mine , i checked the stator [good ] all cand onnected running.
basically you want to see that a signal can circulate through the individual system. if you can imagine all three of those wires being connected to a rudimentary power source, you want to send and receive signal from one to the other in all three. hard to articulate but once you get the three wires in your hands and start testing it will make itself apparent. tell your son thanks from all of us at the 172nd mountain infantry.
How much oil will come out when you pull the left side crank cover off? I just want to pull it off to see how the stator looks before I order a new one.
This viddy was pretty helpful to me, I was just about to replace mine, had the bolts taken out and all and started to pull it when i seen some oil......my book also didn't mention it was a wet part. Being that I have no extra oil r now that makes it a pain in the ass......I have a 97 V1100 and it looks like i will be carrying my charger a bit longer

My stator puts out between 4 to 7 volts at idle as we. As 5k rpm. So it's toast. The spark from one of the spark plug wires is jumping across to the frame (on the exterior it jumps from the cable to the frame). Could this be causing a parasitic drain or be related to a bad stator?
not much oil and the parasitic drain is a result of that and but not all that. if you have a drain that is noticeable it's gonna be more then the stator.
To gut the baffles, there are three welds to cut and you'll see em from the outside. All three cut you wiggle the baffle till the front free's from its pressed in position. Dont fear the pressed part. Its relatively weak metal and its not that hard. Should take a solid 15 minutes of wiggleing the complete shit outta it to free it.
I have a 84 vt700c and love it but im not much with tools and drive a school bus so not much money but want too restore this bike.my startor isnt working and i need to get one.did you need any special tools too change the stator?a fly wheele puller that kind of stuff?also could you put up the places i might find parts for a 84 shadow,i need many parts like forks,handle bars,shield,exaust and i cant find the rear tail light cable too the switch under the seat!thanks

Goldwing gears were a bust for me though. It made the bike bog down in pinical points. Down shifting was funny too. You have to throttle down and time it right cause the tire was traveling faster then the pressure plate, or vise versa. I didnt like it though, it was FAST AS FUCK! Had a ninja for all of a week once and I dare say itta ate the ninja off the line till around 90mph.
flat out bad plug. electricity follows the path of least resistance. that means if the coil is putting out Spark and the wire has enough current capability to carry the spark then the spark plug is the problem. remember even if you pull a plug out and it has spark under compression it might not Spark. safe bet is to spend the $4 a piece on to new plugs

wow i have neglected this video. starter problem is a loose or melted connection between battery and starter. mine would just die while riding.
Got the same bike & year. Just replaced the stator last summer. Runs really good.
When I change the stator on my 86 honda shadow vt1100, do I need to change the gasket as well?

i made my pipes out of conduit piping. it was left over from the pourch behind me in the video. its the top rail.

that's your driveshaft or differential. stator makes no noise at all unless its completely come uncunted.

1100 gasket should be changed but it wont matter a hell of a lot. its a "dry side".

Audra Terry pull the switch off the handle bar and clean the contacts. same with the plug in side of the key switch.

I just put in 4 new spark plugs a couple months ago. I'll put a new one in and see if the spark jumps then. Thanks.
