Nice job! I have a set of carbs being shipped for a 90 NT650 GT that need a rebuild and this vid will help. I like the way u set up to disassemble the two sides. 👍🏼
This video is kind of old and I don't remember what I did in the video but usually to bench test the carbs ill put a short piece of fuel line on the carb and hold the carb in the position it will be in on the bike and blow into the hose, you should be able to blow through it. Then flip the carb 180 degrees and blow again. You shouldn't be able to blow through it. Sometimes you get a carb that's a real pain and to check those you put the carb in the vice and rig up an umbilical tank and put gas right to it on the bench. then just watch it. As far as float height its honestly something ive gotten lucky with and ive never really checked or changed a float height so I'm not going to be much help there.
Hello. I have an 83 VT500c which I just bought. I bought a carb kit, and the bike won't get fuel to the second carb (furthest from petcock & throttle cable, front cyl carb). Can I send my carb in to you?
Thanks for watching! I’m not taking other people projects right now 😅 sorry. If the carb is clean but fuel isn’t getting to the carb it’s probably the pump. That’s just a guess. What I’d try is pull the fuel line off the carb and see if you can get gas there first. It’ll make a mess but you’ll know it’s working. Idk if it has a pump or not. If it doesn’t have a fuel pump check the petcock.
@@ToyShopRestorations @Toy Shop 9665 No worries, figured I'd ask. No fuel pump, just a petcock and downdraft carb. Seems the slide was getting stuck, and as well as the float. Fixed that, and it idled for a 3 seconds on starter fluid. Gonna try connecting petcock today. Thank you for your video.
I’ve never adjusted a carb float on any carb I’ve ever cleaned. If it has a run ability issue I’ll mess with it but I’ve probably done over 100 carbs and never done that. I’m not saying I’m doing it right I just have never had an issue 😅

Reminds me of me working on vehicles. Mechanic mind. Makes things work. Until we can fix them fully.
Sometimes you just gotta make it work 😂
10:52 great advice. ❤
Great video and good advice on parts kits.
How did you bench test the needle and seat and do you need to check the float level?

Those look familiar
Did you put springs under the float pin?
This was a while ago. I don’t remember any springs tho
What was the grease you used on the piston diaphragm?
Wheel bearing grease or you can use Vaseline

I have the new kit , all of it is much different then original one .
This is why I like OEM better than aftermarket for carbs. Lol which boot?
@@ToyShopRestorations in Italy I didn’t find OEM . ,,rubber boot “ I mean the membrane .
@@SometimesWeMustStayInTheShadow so the rubber that’s attached to the slide? I reused that whole assembly
@@ToyShopRestorations yeah
Hi, I have a 86 Honda shadow vt500 . Do you know where I can find a repair kit ??? Please help
I would try eBay or go to a local dealer. Other than that I’m not sure
Amazon.
Reuse what you can from OEM, particularly main jets
Did u use the old boot ? Thx
Which one?
Will this carburetor work on an 85 Honda Shadow 1100?
I’m not sure 🤔
Which model is it ?
I don’t remember off hand. Sorry
You didn't adjust the floats isn't kind of an important thing to do...
