- In this video, I disassemble the engine that I took out of the ss1986 Honda Shadow. My plans are to use the parts from this engine to fix the overdrive in the 84 Honda Shadow 500. Amd how in the world do you keep track of all those bolts and where they go??
Some of the bolts were put in zip lock bags and labeled. That is going to be a parts engine for the 85 Shadow 500. I am hoping that the overdrive gears are good in it.

Thanks for posting this, I was looking for just such a teardown a few days ago as I have my engine out at the moment. Man those carbs were a pain to get off.
How many km/miles on this engine?
Thanks for watching. I think the engine has 30,000 miles on it. The cylinders didn't look bad but the oil was black.
Would I be able to do my valve covers on the bike ? Or does removal of the carbs have to happen, I just picked up a 86 and it pisses oil from the valve gasket
I've been told that it can be done in the bike. I wasn't able to get the rear valve cover out.
@@wonkster1970 I did it today. It was absolutely horrible I never recommend anyone try it. Just pull the dang motor, front cover took me 5 minutes, the rear 1 hour and I didn’t even get it off I lifted the valve cover up and fished the new gasket in and seated it and bolted it back together but hey. No more leaks and it worked if you have ALOT of patience then I’d say sure do it !!
