Really fun to watch - now I see what Steveo1Kinevo mentions regarding Hung/Stuck starts means in another aircraft. Your verbal descriptions and cues are really good.
Great video! I’m a pc12 sim pilot returning from a couple years of retirement and found your video great to get reused to it. Keep it up! Love this kind!
I'm not a pilot but a friend of mine in the Philippines, Ronnie Liang is learning how to fly. So far he's got his private pilot license and currently working on his commercial pilot license. Because of him, I am learning a lot about the different planes and I said to myself, if I have the money, I would be getting a Pilatus PC-12 NGX and the Diamond DA-50 RG which is mainly for personal use. Anyway, THANK YOU! I don't think I've come across anyone who explained things as clear as you did. Anyone who hasn't attended any class at all like myself could learn a lot from you... so again, thanks! Stay safe!
I’m a line service technician for a small regional airport and I’ve always wondered what the start up procedures were for the PC12. I’ve only been in one for a flight, but my coworker was flying right seat for takeoff and landing so I missed seeing the procedure.
Shamir, you have got to be the best PC-12 pilot on UA-cam! I just love how your so detailed with everything especially when your flying the PC-12! Love the startup sound of the PC-12!.
You have a new subscriber, excellent explanation never seen anyone so thorough do a checklist so well, most people try to rush through it makes me want to buy a PC 12
I liked your video very much. PC12 is one of my favourite single-engine turboprop aircraft. But, I'm not a pilot just a flight simmer. This detail startup video is going to help me to replicate the startup procedure in my PC12 for X-Plane 11. Thanks.
We flew in a Sounds Air PC12 from Christchurch New Zealand to Blenheim and back last January. Fantastic trip. I'm only a humble PA-28 and 172 Cessna private pilot but it was interesting to watch the guys up front.
Cuando hacia el checklst en el simulador con el PC12 pensaba q era demasiado sencillo para ser realistico con tantos switches en la cabina. Pero veo que realmente es sencillo en vida real. Gracias por el video.
I have such a weak spot for single engine turboprop aircrafts. And the PC-12 is a beauty. I really have to find out where my copy of Carenado's PC-12 for X-Plane 11 went when I switched desktop computer. It's on one all the external HDDs, the question is which one.
I was on Highway 101 southbound from Morgan Hill when a Pilatus landed at the little airport to my right in a light rain. It was cool to see the water pushed forward as the prop went into reverse.
Wow no wonder there is so much love for the PC-12 :)! I just love turboprops their startup is so epic :D btw very detailed and very good procedural startup, keep up the good work :)
You mentioned that you don't want the ITT to go up too high. What would cause it to go up too high and how do you stop it from going up too high if that were to happen.
Hi John, If we get lighted pretty fast, we risk toasting the engine on the inside. The ITT can go up to 1,000 Celsius before it toast the engine; therefore we need to keep vigilant and cut the fuel if it gets too high!
Hot starts can be caused by any number of factors, the most common one in normal operations being low battery amperage during battery starts on aircraft that have a single battery but also can be a result of a variety of other maintenance issues or even a strong tailwind blowing up the aft of the aircraft. You stop it by first recognizing that a hot start is happening - if you wait until the ITT gets close to the limits its going to be too late. The engine can only be within 870-1000’C for 5 seconds - and it still has to cool down. Once you recognized a hot start is occurring you just take fuel away by putting the condition lever to cut off feather and letting the start cycle finish both to continue cooling the engine as well as to get rid of any unburnt fuel that remains in the combustion chamber. I was always trained to, as part of the start cycle, to make a note of the highest ITT reached even on normal starts. For example, the callout would be: “*add fuel* Fuel flow... light off... 701 degrees, oil pressure.” And also if it ever goes into the transient or starting limits to start counting seconds, you get 20 seconds from 800-870 I believe and 5 seconds 870-1000. If you do this on every start then if you have a hot start you’ll be able to tell your mechanic the highest ITT reached and for how long it was there which might save you from having to do a hot section inspection.
Hi fiirdt time i feel like a trainee pilot.. Hats of u and travelled many times in Flight as a Passenger only mot like this.. Congrats and put ur take off video along it.
Hey Shamir! I'm an ATP and fly King Airs, Piper Malibu Mirage, and when I'm lucky I get to sit right seat in a Challenger 601. I've heard this plane is a dream to fly, and talk about a clean cockpit! Mind if I as you a couple questions? 1. What happens if you attempt a takeoff at gross weight with no flaps? I hear there's a quirk with flap settings that can get you into trouble, which is all I know. 2. What does the standby bus actually power? Do you need a Batt switch on to use it? 3. The ECS system confuses me. I thought the buttons on the overhead panel were for ground use, but there's a master ECS switch on the fwd panel with Auto setting and temp control, so you still need those overhead switches? There's a button for cooling and one for heating. Say you're taking off from KPHX and the temp's 100 degrees F, and you need the cold air for taxi-out and take off, but up at FL270 you need some heat. Do you have to mess with those buttons at altitude? Thanks for posting this... the PC-12 is state of the art Swiss engineering and you get an aircraft that has top notch performance and comfort, only at the sacrifice of a little cruise speed. Someone compared the PC-12 to being the best example of an airliner shrunk down to a single-engine package. I'd love to fly this beauty!
It is hard for me to revise all this but it is very cool to find such great content on youtube. This is my first time trying to know how to drive a plane.❤🌷
Wow very nice and beautiful explanation, each and every step, I know nothing about Plains but found this video very interesting, I love the engine starting UP sound
Nice video pal, I'd love to upgrade to these, it is funny that in 2020 you don't just press start button and it does it all for you as oppose to manual switching. I'm currently on DA40 then going onto DA42
Hi Damir. I believe, with the PC-12 NGX and other aircraft like the Cirrus SF50, everything is automated with FADEC and you just have to push the button to start the whole sequence.
This was an amazing video. If only flight Sims had every detail and switch worked into the game including preflight checklists albeit it could get boring over time so preflight should be skipable but yea it's still exciting for non pilots who can only dream of being in a cockpit ❤️
We close the separator after takeoff at 1,000 ft. at least that's our SOP. some companies dictate differently. If we're flying in ICING and heavy rain, its staying open.
Great video ! It's a Shame Flight Simulator 2020 did'nt put a Pilatus PC-12 in the simulator, but a french tbm instead. This is only because the developers team is french.
Hi Pete.. Its just a dual system compared to a single battery system. Basically, redundancy. this really helps if you have to do an AIR-START after an engine failure.
Good , but you forgot fuel pumps test. 1.- Lh fuel pump on. 2.- ear the sound of the pump working. 3.- in the caws panel check the fuel press is off. 4.- Lh fuel pump off. 5.- reset master caution light, for the fuel press light in the caws panel is on. And the same for the right pump. Good videos bro. Best regards form México.
Excellent tutorial on how to start a PC-12, and planes in general. I really have to learn all these instrument buttons and their purposes. I'm wondering if there is a way for plane makers to design the cockpit controls even simpler.
Finally, someone shows us non-pilots just how to start an airplane! THANK YOU!!! I hope to be a pilot soon and Pilatus PC-12 is my dream plane.
you can found a lot of good tutorial for a lot of different airplane from a Cessna to a Boeing :)
