This is what I call a great video. Everything about operating and flying the aircraft rather than the talking heads some people insist on showing. Thank you.
It IS an awesome airplane and I respect your piloting skills. As a pilot of 41 years, some of the flying chanels get to be a bit "more of the same." But I enjoy a few of them and yours is one. In case you're curious, I fly a 1980 Cessna 441/Conquest II out of Long Beach, CA. Just got back from San Antonio, a four hour and 15 minute flight. While the Conquest is wonderful airplane, it is a dinosaur compared to the PC12 NG.
I flew the 737 und now flying the 777, but the PC12 is still for me the ultimate flying machine. The sweet spot betweem the faster TBM9XX and dual engine Kingair 2/3XX.
For us aviation geeks, seeing what happens inside the cockpit is as exiting as seeing outside! great camera angles especially the "checklist" camera where we can see the instrument panel and any interaction with the instruments/ displays. Thank you for the video.
Love the camera views Grant. Flew many years out of 3C1 and did my check ride at Elkhart. Love your videos and thank you, as I live vicariously through you now.
Grant, love your videos! PC12 pilot here..recently Pilatus has told us to wait starting Bat1 and Bat2 15 seconds in between each other for overload. Not sure it makes a difference but we’ve been following ever since.
Thanks for the tip Landon! That’s for voltage overload to the avionics I assume? I noticed a lot of clicking on the speaker, so I started waiting until that stops (a second or two) before turning on Batt 2. I’ll add the 15 sec to my routine though.
That was a great ride! Love camera angle...watch a lot of flight vids, but I think this is one of the best I've ever seen...felt like I was there Thanks!
Excellent idea for a video, mate. Being an aviator geek myself I am a fan of seeing the pre-flight stuff, and certainly how the Pilatus works in that regard. It's a lovely machine. I also love the noise of a good 2 stage start procedure on a turboprop haha. That engine really makes a good racket when you go into low idle, doesn't it ;) Hope you're keeping well, sir.

Shorttt and sweet, Grant it was interesting with the cam on your head. Liked the startup procedure wouldn't mind the preflight. Nice to see you doing well, hope the family is well also. Catch you on the next one.
Hey Grant - I just found your channel. I did a lot of flying in Indiana some years ago, based at Eagle Creek in Indy. I hold a single engine land and instrument rating. I enjoyed this view - As a pilot, it gave me a great feel for the actual workload in the PC-12.
Great video ones again 👍I like this "raw" and "pov" format pretty much. The cold and dark sequence was very enjoyable. I hope to see more of this in the future. I would even like to see this unedited stuff for longer flights since I don't mind to watch 90+ minutes videos. Ok, regarding the last point, I guess there are not many crazy people like me out there who will enjoy such long unedited videos, but I definitely will. I love your content and at the end of the day, I will be happy with every video you upload. Thanks for your great work, wish you blue skies and greetings from Switzerland 😉
that looks like so much fun. The mall made me think about our local legacy mall here in Shreveport Louisiana. South Park (not that one) was all but abandon then a local church bought it and gave it a second lease on life. I didn't notice when you engaged the yaw damper. I've always wondered does the yaw damper eliminate the P factor on take-off? I enjoy your channel. thanks for sharing. Cheers from Louisiana.
Thanks Rick! No, you want the yaw damper off for takeoff and landing. It dampens any yaw movement so it would hinder your rudder inputs. Very noticeable if you miss kicking it off for landing. You turn the YD on after raising the gear, so around 100’.
NIcely done, many hours sitting between PT 6 engines and it took me back to my Kingair days. Not real familiar with the Pilatus line and wondered if the avionics were Honeywell. The PFD and the bulls eye flight director display are identical to the ones in the Falcon 2000LX that I presently fly. Nice vid, fly safe!
A nice view is one of the passenger Windows on the left side. You can mount gopro over there, filming left wing. Also avoid music! The best sound is turbopropp sound. :)
Hi Grant, Loved the pilot's perspective but creates a vertigo effect for me while watching. Seems that I'm the only one that had this issue. Unfiltered was good. keep up the videos, I love watching!
I agree David, the movement is too fast for my preference. It was fun doing something new. Enough people seem to be liking it that I may include it in some future videos, but it isn’t going to be a regular staple. Just something to change it up a few times per year probably.
Using Flightaware I found a PC12 had just left our airport en route to west Houston. I set up an alert for when it comes back, I’ll be able to see it up close.
hello Grant Baker ,my name is joão i from brazil. sorry my inglish , i still learning . i like to watch your videos. nowadays i fly pilatus and like so mutch this airplaine . i think the your videos are verry good to lear this airplaine , congratulation !
I don.t know if it was on my end but the audio was really choppy and the camera on the head made it seem choppy as well and the fast pans as you were looking for traffic is a little disorienting but I loved riding along sir. Thankyou for sharing. Greg out
Hmm audio shouldn’t have been choppy. I didn’t cut any of that out. As for the head cam, that’s unfortunately unavoidable as that’s how we naturally move our heads and a reason I won’t be using that view often. I think it’s pretty cool that we don’t even notice how fast we move our heads in normal life and yet how disorienting it is to see it on a screen!
Grant, I don't believe that it is necessary for you to cross-check either the altimeter readings (on ground) or the airspeed (on takeoff) because the Honeywell Primus Apex system has comparators that automatically monitor those two indications. If there is a difference between either altimeter reading or airspeed reading between the left and right hand sides (in other words, between each half of the Apex system) you will get a visual "miscompare" alert on the affected instrument (both LH and RH PFD).
love it, you may like to try a closer angle to the displays or better a way to see what switches are being operated above. but I love the uncut style, I wish every body made videos like this. Naturally I just subscribed. keep it up sir
Thanks! I had hoped to be able to use the chest mount to show the displays better but I didn’t check the angle well enough and it ended up just the yoke. 😂
I was going to ask how much fuel... And you posted it ;-) 13 gallons for a 10 minute flight??? Not too efficient for those short low flights is it?!? Nascar used to be huge around here and the pilots who flew out of KHKY would come up to KMRN for the cheap fuel then pop back to hky to pick up the drivers/crew. It always amazed me when they told me how much fuel they burned on a 5 minute flight!!! Fella once told me his jet burned as much fuel idling on the ground as it took at 40k doing 500+ mph!!! Crazy how efficient turbines are at altitude!!! Just REALLY expensive getting them there ;-) Safe travels sir!!! Enjoyed the "new" views!!
No I haven’t. Until recently, all my equipment was inside the airplane. I’ve recently started using an Insta360 X3 on the wingtip and losing the camera was a big concern. I was able to find a very secure mounting system from NFlightCam though.
The propeller pitch can be reversed so that it pushes instead of pulls to help make landings shorter. Beta is in between normal and reverse pitch. I usually don’t go all the way into reverse on landing, and I also use beta to control taxi speed to avoid riding the brakes too much. The MOR is for emergency use. The fuel controller uses bleed air off the engine. If there’s a malfunction causing the fuel controller to no longer have bleed air, the power control lever will no longer have any effect and the engine will roll back to a very low idle. The MOR allows you to directly control engine power, but you lose some of the protections that the fuel controller normally provides.
Wow ! Absolutely loved this video with this angle .Would definitely love to see more videos like this . Would also like to see how you setup the Garmin PFD for the flight.

Yeah it looks good this format. I liked seeing the start from cold and dark and all the necessary checks required. That's cool. Thanks!
Thanks Jose!
Loved the video of the start up procedures
I love the first person camera. I really like seeing the pilot perspective.
I Love how the footage was raw and how it was a POV

Yes to this format.
Grant. I know it takes a lot of your time to produce your videos. Thanks so much. Always enjoy riding along.
I am not a pilot, so I probably got more out of the FPV than others. It was great to see all your actions from your point of view. Thanks

It was tight, but we made it!🤣
PC 12 cockpits are cool 👍
Yeah they are!
Lovely - enjoyed this. Is the second spike on the startup a PC-12 thing? Haven't seen this on other PT6 videos with other aircraft?
Most PT6 engines have two start stages, but I can’t say for sure that all of them do.
Definitely liked the raw footage. Since the Pilatus seems so exotic to me I would like to see the whole preflight
Wait til it bets warmer though...
I’ve got some preflight videos actually. One for the outside and one for the inside.
Grant, I don't believe that it is necessary for you to cross-check either the altimeter readings (on ground) or the airspeed (on takeoff) because the Honeywell Primus Apex system has comparators that automatically monitor those two indications. Thanks Brian! Yeah they are definitely NOT efficient at low altitudes.
Have you lost any equipment during the filming?
No I haven’t. Until recently, all my equipment was inside the airplane. I’ve recently started using an Insta360 X3 on the wingtip and losing the camera was a big concern. I was able to find a very secure mounting system from NFlightCam though.
Good video, Grant. Two questions: 1) What is "beta?" and 2) Can you please explain the purpose of the MOR (manual override) lever. Thank you.
