Thanks for sharing. Honestly, the slate is great. I tried using the tube mics that came with it, but ended up not doing so, as I preferred the clean sound haha. Love the flatness.
Do you feel like the new tube mic expansion and the black birds are better?
I’m not hating on their emulations at all, I think I’m just more used to the modern flat sound. Maybe that’s just how my modern music taste affects my taste in microphones. Or maybe it’s just due to my love of more “digital” audio. But I don’t regret getting the slate at all. The beautiful flat sound of the mic itself was worth wayyyyy more than I paid for, in my opinion.

I've recently come upon your channel. I've had one condenser mic the Se Electronics Se 1X .. I recently "upgraded slightly to a ID14Mk II from audient . I've also had a Rode Nt1 but sold it because I found it was a little too harsh in the 4-7K region . The Se 1X S just seemed a little more versatile as a first beginner mic for me .. . I really don't have a big budget but I'm torn and wonder if I should get a modelling mic as my next mic something that I could grow with or maybe look at the NOS12 ( I'm concerned that it might be a little to harsh in the top .. But that's subjective) . If you had to give general advice for a second Studio mic what would you suggest in the 250 to 500 range... I do know that mics suit certain voices differently but I don't have the option to buy and try many mics , since I'm not in the US. Lie what general advice would you give knowing what you know now .

Definitely appreciate you checking out the channel.
As it pertains to your question, I would ask #1 what is your goal? I see a price range so that’s informative but what goal for the mic do you have?
Modeling mics get a bad wrap dependent upon the person, but they offer a variety of tones. One mic, same position, instantaneous change of mics for locking in a decision, the convenience is unmatched.
I’m a fan of the SM7B. It gets a bad wrap for vocals but I don’t agree with that interpretation personally. It’s sufficient for almost all sources, and with processing, it WORKS. Plus the price isn’t bad at all.
I honestly also like the wa47jr. For the price it’s a no brainer. Balanced, it’s got mojo, detail because it’s a condenser and it takes processing well.
There’s quite a few other mics that work honestly. I feel like the goal drives the choice.
