Definitely appreciate the compliment. I try to create whatever I’m inspired to create. This song naturally came to me like this and felt right from the beginning.
The U87 is definitely overpriced for what it offers but other than a great sound quality, what you are also paying for is a "professional" status symbol. It sounds crazy but i'm sure you know exactly what i'm talking about! Artists just react different when they walk up to a purple badge Neumann versus a cheaper mic that the artist could probably afford in their studio setup if they have one. I think the U87 is probably the holy grail mic to own for smaller commercial studios/home studios and is one of the greatest mics in history, but I don't think it is THE greatest mic. Great vid man! Looking forward to the rest of your series!
I echo your sentiments. I’m more of a u47/u48 fan honestly bro. The um57 is something to have available in your locker. But if I had a choice between the staples (251, c12, u67 etc…) I would choose the u87 last or at least not in the space that most typically would. I appreciate the support as usual bro! We need to collab on a video or something!?!
@@CarlMooreMusic Just based on your Stam SA47 video and the way you talked about your experiences with the real U47, I kinda had a feeling you were a U47 person more than anything else haha. Do you like them with the M7 or the K47 capsule? I'm a fan of brighter tube mics so the M269C, C800g, 251, etc. And yes I am down for a collab video!!
I appreciate the support! I’ve had previous experience with the mic but it’s been some years and it was a vintage u87. I totally understand the high desire for the mic but the price lol…. That’s a totally different story. I hope to get my hands on the sphere and run their emulations through some tests and ultimately create music with it.
I have one. They're far from the best mic ever, but they just work on any vocalist! And they are reliable. Never harsh. I prefer the sound of my Manley mic. But the Manley has had so many issues, and doesn't suit absolutely everyone. Can't go wrong with the Neumann.
I agree and won’t deny their useful, utilitarian nature. It’s just that I hear often how great this mic is and I honestly prefer a u47 over it. The u67 is much more desirable in my opinion as well lol. Thanks for checking out the video and stopping by the channel.
I wish I could afford a real U87ai. I own the first version Warm Audio put out, the WA87. I saw a video on UA-cam where someone opened up the U87ai and the GTZ version and the insides look way cheaper in the GTZ
I’ve got 2 wa87s v1 and I think they fit the idea of a u87 amongst the other mics Warm Audio offers. And that’s the key to my comment because I know the UA-cam experts will see this and argue down that it sounds nothing like a u87, vintage or modern. The gtz87+ I have seems decent for a cheap piece of gear but I don’t expect a whole lot from the price point.
I hear you… but the Dr Dre stamp is gonna keep that mic at that cost. And considering the fact that companies try to make version of it shows its prestige and integrity. It could be $4k 🤷🏾♂️
That’s only one perspective (not saying it isn’t a major one) but the company had reached its status of prestige before Dre was even active making music. I think the u87 released about 18yrs or so before he got his start. So pile that and every other form of success that happened with that mic involved on top of his influence and there’s a recipe for “this is why we’re going to keep our mics at that top price.” lol Dre doesn’t help bring it down either. I know it’s all subjective but I know it’s a solid mic and won’t let it leave my locker. I just personally side eye those who herald it as the “greatest mic ever” or however they choose to phrase it. Neumann has a LONG list of mics that are the standard. I do wish they would bring that price down though 😂😂. Just like $1k. As always, thanks for the support bro!
@@CarlMooreMusic oh of course… point was that even after all that time, it’s held up to where now ppl respect it in whole other generations of music and feel it’s needed with their vocals
Bette than a u47/u48, u67, c12/c12a, elam251, m49, um57? And I feel like that list could go on… I think it’s a solid mic but in my subjective opinion it’s not better than the mics I mentioned so I can’t call it the best or greatest ever.
That's honestly my point. I won't argue or deny the quality of any u87. I just think the price point is steep. The Eden offers a lot more features than a u87 but Lauten just doesn't have the years of notoriety like Neumann. And Lauten Audio is an awesome company. Folks won't understand that comment either and just attack the idea that you said you prefer the Eden over a u87 but I recognize your perspective. Thank you for checking out the video, stopping by the channel and interacting with me. It's honestly appreciated.
And I think that popularity depends on the knowledge/user experience. I’d pick a bunch of other mics over this one in use and popularity. The u47/u48 is one example. It can do everything a u87 can with a totally different vibe. And it’s an older mic than the u87. In many circles it’s more popular
THanks Carl just love to hear your voice and the great content is a bonus
Definitely appreciate the kind words and the support of the channel!
I didn’t expect you would do a reggae chune, mi breddrin. Big up

What also good is from Germany is weissklang.
Definitely have to check that mic out. Where can I find out and how much does it cost?
It’s a nice mic but it’s ridiculously overpriced. I prefer a Lauten Audio Eden if I’m gonna spend that much money.
That's honestly my point. I won't argue or deny the quality of any u87. I just think the price point is steep.

Dont think its the best, its just popular

@@CarlMooreMusic yea definitely the u47
@kingyasofficial then I’ve seen in higher end studios with a larger mic locker put u87s on sources but not as the main tool.
