  • Understanding the ‘Body Game’
    After your first treatment, it’s important to be clear on how muscles act and importantly what tightens them and leads to pain.
    This video explains in detail the two parts of muscle that want to tighten, change the way you move and eventually cause pain.
    These are,
    1) Trigger Points
    We all know the tight knots in our shoulder, but understand that there is a ‘map’ of these tension spots throughout the body. Same map on all of us, that’s why practitioners can go straight to them.
    Basically, these points can ,
    A) Inhibit a muscle from contracting and firing correctly
    B) Make a muscle fatigue quicker
    C) Make a muscle contraction weaker
    D) Finally…CAUSE PAIN!

    2) Fascia
    We all know about the layer of white, fibrous tissue surrounding red meat. Thing is, It’s around each of our muscles too. It acts as a sling and pulley system creating movement and force throughout the body. Problem is, it wants to shorten and ‘shrink wrap’ over time. This changes our quality of movement, causing ‘older’ blockier patterns that increase load through certain joints and areas, leading to degeneration and pain.
    When we understand these two components, it’s possible to learn how to lengthen fascia as well as ease tension through trigger points.
    Your physio will help free them up and start tailoring a plan to empower you with the skills to tackle them independently long term. That way you can nip pain and tension in the bud to keep doing what we want to do now and into the future. Quality of life is everything and information keeps us in the drivers seat.
