There’s always a solid reason why we are breaking rules, usually for the sake of efficiency and benefiting the ones who are asking for help or need help the most. The world need us INTJs just as much as we need the world, but I have no time to explain to everyone why I’m doing what I’m doing, they will know afterwards. If they like what I’ve done? All good. If they don’t like it? Change it to how they like it, hopefully better than what I’ve done. Technically with some logic, rules are made to be broken
I cringe at being described as edgy. I break rules when they are inherently inefficient, and this is key, only when the benefit of breaking the rule outweighs the cost for doing so.

We don't overthink for nothing, we want to know, to deeply understand, connect the dots in our mind, solve the problem.

On another side there are a lot of cool or weird words we could use to define us : we are Paradox, lightbringer, prism which transforme the light into a rainbow, a rainbow inside a black box, ideas generator, walking encyclopedai/paradox, the weirdest living being, the visionaries😆

Most of the time, rules are meant to facilitate the person suggesting it..
That is why I take pride of rebelling...
As an INTJ whose had a disdain for inefficient rules, especially in childhood, this is accurate. As I've grown older, I've also been looking at rules from a more humanitarian lens. I can understand and appreciate there being rules to keep people and their environment safe, but when some higher authority uses them or twists their true intent to keep their subordinates under their thumb, then there's gonna be a problem.

There's a rule we have to be civil?? Well, as an rebel INTJ I tell you what... I'm going to follow that rule. Why? It's actually a really good rule both on the internet and real life. And I think most INTJs will be fine with following that rule. It keeps that conversation from being derailed. Even if I did disagree (which I hope by now is fairly obvious that don't), there still is a good reason to keep things civil. You can learn a lot more from a debate than you can from a yelling match.

Fr tho, shouting matches just give me headaches (and that's not because of my general distaste for loud noises (or is it autism? idk, I'm just gonna call it symptoms disorder)). Also, shouting matches are usually just people repeating the same thing over and over again, so the discussion goes nowhere. And a conversation getting derailed is just irritating
I agree with some other commenters, I'm not looking for rules to break, I just do what makes the most sense. I despise rules that basically exist to prove you will "respect authority" 🙄 Oftentimes I don't say anything and just disengage or walk away, easily thinking of a work around. My mom taught me to just smile and nod and then just do your own thing anyway, ppl just want to see you smile and nod first. (INFJ advice is highly INFJ 😂) I've had people in positions of authority get upset when the fact that they are disapproving of me doesn't seem to matter to me. "Your boos mean nothing to me, I've seen what makes you cheer!"

Scenario 1: Boredom and the rabbit hole.
Scenario 2: Intense focus and the rabbit hole.
Either situation, I took the red pill.
Yes we rebel against things that don’t make sense. For me, my parents made sense and my peers seemed to make stupid decisions so I rebelled against my peers. You can imagine how much that reinforced the introversion!

It looks arrogant and discourteous and it is sometimes because we can loose patience...but with age we learn how to manage expectations...not ours...other people expectations.

My friend accused me of being edgy bc I don't open up myself enough. He always talks about himself and his problems while I always actively listen to see where he's coming from.
It's not my intention to not frequently open up. It's just that there's no significant thing to share about at that moment.
I usually respond to that question with, 'what do you want to know?'. They usually don't have an answer and continue talking about their own lives 😂

I'm loving these videos. I was raised in a toxic family and didn't have much more luck with friends or, even worse, with men. I've been alone my entire life and that's always been fine, but I hope one day I'll meet irl a bunch of other crazy INTJ people, similar to me but each with their own unique life and personality, that I can call family and with whom I can share projects and silly goals and ambitions. Knowing you're all out there, gives me a lot of strength.

INTJ's make great "servant leaders" due to their typically humble nature though I tended to have the most difficulty with individuals with exceptionally large egos. During my career I found myself, for a time, in a position to change some of those rules in the organization that didn't make sense.
I usually left companies or teams when I realized that they didn't care to change for the better. Usually, it's due to leadership with what you said, large egos 🙃

I think the issue with most people is that they are equating what INTJs do with rebellion. It's not actually rebellion. Rebellion is actively fighting against the status quo. But INTJs are fine with the status quo so long as it makes sense. If the system genuinely works, then we're happy in the system. If the system isn't working, that's when we need to take things apart and rebuild them.
Anyway, what an INTJ does is to be self-defined (Fi) . We don't ally ourselves with people who defend rules (status quo) because that's how you end up enforcing dumb rules and taking illogical positions. We also don't ally ourselves with people who attack the status quo (rebelling) because sometimes there are very good reasons for the status quo, and it's dumb to destroy stuff that's working. And so we can be on either side of the line at any time. But this also makes us good at finding compromises because we can take in information and extrapolate it out, and see both sides of an argument where both are equally valid. And we can break arguments down into their core components to try to build a solution because maybe there is a way for both groups to get what they want at the core.
Our consistency is our own principles, not a particular side in a debate. And in discussing with people, we may find new ways to apply our principles, and so gain new perspective and new ideas.

As an ENFP desperately trying to understand the INTJ type (and also one who frequently breaks rules), I find that the INTJ-type thought process and logic is hugely helpful in reminding me that drastic action needs to be balanced by sound reasoning (which in turn helps me to be more confident in my radical decisions and choices)

Loved the video as well as the call to be safe in your rebellion. I know in my lifetime I've definitely bent/stretched/broken some rules and done things my way because I didn't fully see the consequences the ripple would lead to. Some I'd do all over again and others I would definitely plan better with hindsight on my side. 😅
Also, hyperbolic compliance to a rule is another form of rebellion I know I use when I want to make a point that a rule is bad.

Absolutely agree 💯 as I child, I put people in shock with my behaviour. My teachers couldn't understand why the student who had such excellence in study could rebel. Also, I think some social rules are so dumb 😕 I still have some problems because of it. My coworkers can agree to rules because these are the rules from the company. I follow the rules I find efficient and reasonable. If not, I will try to change it. And I did it as a child too. But because most don't take children seriously it was much harder. Some saw this as adolescent moodiness or something like that. I think edginess comes from this too. We need to stand for ourselves, Te makes us unstoppable 😅 thank you for the video, wish every intj to break those dumb rules!

My Ni nig, I was always so rebellious that I was diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder (among others) when I was a kid. My personality type was literally considered a mental disorder, because I saw the incompetence of the authority figures.
People are always confused when I tell them I don't care about the status of a person. If the CEO of the company continues to say stupid things then I will treat then as an idiot regardless of titles 😂
Some rules are made by stupid people for selfish reasons... those don't apply to me.
I've been rebelling against myself lately, and in turn its been leading to distractions which then leads to procrastination... its the strangest thing, and maybe it is because I'm bored with my daily schedule. I've been working at home for over 2 years now, and its just too easy. I think I might be sabotaging myself just to stir the pot.😑
Basically, I'll tell myself to do something, and once that thing is set in my mind's to-do list, I will literally do EVERYthing that thing.
For example, I wake up and think to myself "go sign on for work" Nah.. instead, I'll go make breakfast. and eat it. I'll feed my cat. I'll brush my teeth. I'll play on my phone...
and now im almost an hour past when it would have taken 10 seconds to sign on.. and then do those things 😅 ayy
I understand what you're going through completely! When I get bored in a position, I end up testing my bounderies. Not because I'm lazy but because It's something new and interesting to test. You might need a change of pace or a long vacation 😂
For sure! Glad I'm not the only one. I just realized I was doing this when nothing was getting done and after thinking about how ridiculous I'm being. a vacation is much needed!
Not me. Time is money. Keep the paycheck coming--I'm not counting on so-called "social security." When I got bored, and my job was boring, I used the time to think about the screenplay I was writing while I photocopied, or I would take on new work projects (often solving problems without asking) until I became more valuable. I think I still have a pair of WordPerfect 2.0 DOS macros that will take a broken MS Word document and repair it, somewhere... One inserted markers for formatting, then converted the .doc to text, stripping out the metadata and formatting and usually the error that broke it. The second put the formatting back in again. The file would be fixed--and tiny, until you put it back into Word.

As a teen INTJ, I am thankful for your long conversation on rebellion. *Cough* I think algebra is a waste of time *cough*
This reminds me about times and group meetings where something's being discussed and arguing their sides. Of course, the decision tree is already made before the meeting, and internally I'm listening to options I thought about and determined weren't feasible. Now, I know I could let all that get out on the table, then give everyone the most likely course of action. But then I have to go through the mind-numbing process of explaining all the details about the decision and negate these dead-end ideas, which will likely involve some energy-burning ego management.
My dream is to be with people to whom I can say, "You know I usually come up with great plans, right? I would prefer it if everyone in the room would listen carefully, let me give the answer in the most possibly efficient word structure, and just be quiet and do it. Somewhere along the way, you'll understand the reasons to your questions... on your time." Maybe a "safe word" or something.
I’m still young and I understand how the world works. I break the rules but go unscathed. Like is school I BS everything but still am in honor society.

We are focused, efficient flashlights. We can show the way, but can do little when someone wants to take a dark or dead end path. Rebellion? No. Just a clear way to get from here to the goal, while taking into account the needs of the whole group. Heaven help anyone who obstructs because ‘Granny’ wouldn’t have done it that way.
It'll work out if you two work on it! Just make sure to be straight forward with your expectation but allow time for your INTJ to understand where it fits into the overarching plan. You got this and please take care of him for us ✊

When I were in my teens, I was a thief. I got pleasure from stealing just cuz…. The adult brain was a great balance.
As a therapist I spent hours studying the INTJ and admiring him in a way that felt indulgent and truly enjoyable to be around. ENFP me can’t hide from the INTJs keen awareness. I thought I could keep that private, also no shame in admiring a beautiful mind. A late night text message intensely asking me to admit to any desire for him and then resulted in him requesting a pic from me! My stomach dropped. The boundary crossing out of character. I assume that was calculated and then dropped out of therapy . the next day. Edgy indeed. Boredom doubtful. Sessions felt like a battle of the wits, exploratory and intellectual. It still leaves me baffled and sad.
I used these videos to help him feel understood and for me to be more efficient because I know that was valued. I really worked so hard to help this young INTJ. But it’s makes me so sad that it feels self- sabotaging. Therapist damage I have to take as part of my job I suppose.

I’m currently on a kind of “challenge” I set for myself wherein I’m going to follow all of the rules, no questions asked! I am trying very hard to get myself to believe it’ll lead to “personal growth”. And it very well might, because even rules that are illogical at the local scope might lead to more efficiency at the higher scope (which I cannot see). Or, rules are in place for reasons such as security but that’s information that cannot be shared those at lower rungs on the ladder such at myself. So basically I’m trying to give what I perceive to be nonsensical rules the benefit of the doubt and will see adhering to them as something of a practice in self-discipline and hopefully successful social/system adaptation

yes, that you only break the rules when they are in the way, that sums it up very well. i even have the stupid habit of entering construction sites, not because i want to break rules, but because a construction site is sometimes in the way between the shortest route to my destination. 😂

Listen to your parents, even if you don't understand why they are forbidding you from things.
Finding a roundabout to absolutely every boundary is at a certain age pretty dangerous and you may get a lot of habits that will harm your future self in a way you cannot see now, but your parents can.
I think it's also okay to question why rules are set in place and question authority to gain clarification. Telling an INTJ to accept something blindly is telling a person to drive a car wearing a blindfold, we'll crash and burn at every corner 😅
@@justcallmejon22 Agree absolutely, and it's really hard to find the middle ground btw listening to authority and doing whatever you deem right (or not wrong).
There are things, parents won't explain to their children, in fear it may cause other harm. And as an INTJ, we most likely won't listen if we don't see the point, and so put ourselves in harm's way. Maybe feel even provoked to do it just bcs we were denied from it. 😂
So I know, I am writing this, knowing my younger self, if he had ever read my comment, he wouldn't have listened to it, so most likely the rest here won't either. But today, I see the point to why my parents forbid me certain things and even didn't bother to explain. Unfortunately a bit late, after I have already done everything anyway, bcs I would always find a way to get what I wanted. 🙂

I Scored INTJ 20 literal times within the span of 1 year of taking the Myers Briggs exams. This notion that INTJ's are rebellious or rule breakers is not accurate at all. We are what lesser intellectual personality types would refer to as "unconventional" in terms of how we make efficiency happen or how we plan or strategies we make and so it can seem like we broke certain rules, bent others or severely mangled some but we do that in such a way as to deliver the most efficient, best, thoughtful, best planned and effective solutions or ideas ever brought to light....meanwhile people sit there upset at us for using a jetpack to scale a mountain = True INTJ revealed. In relation to rules, don't forget we are also referred to as "The Architects".....incase you forgot we made the rules....😎

mhm I'm actually disappointed of how blind I am. today I was reading more about cognitive functions and the fact that I didn't want to admit for many years that I actually don't like routine and I've tried to have one million times and I failed, and I hate rules like gurl you're fooling who??? but as you said, if the rules make sense to me I don't break them.
Learning about yourself is a long journey so you shouldn't put yourself down too much for not being correct right away. You got time and it sounds like you're heading toward the right path fighting your ego ✊

I mean... I don't even need to watch the video :D . They are either - inefficient. Actually that's it. Inefficiency comes in more forms than just one. But the other thing worth mentioning is that we don't break the rules just because it makes us hard or smth. We break them because they are the obstruction and we do it more often than not even without realising. And often those are just some unwritten rules and you just come to the conclusion - hell, why not. It will look weird but it's not wrong or forbidden. Well, this requires some conscious thought process... So yeah, it's for the same reason and the differences are only whether it's conscious or not.

Conformity is somewhat necessary, there needs to be a certain level of cohesion for society to function and that's fine. If I conform it's cause I align with said thing or cause it just makes sense to HOWEVER when people conform in the face of injustice, that sets me OFF. I get not caring about something done across the world that you have no control over, what fires me up is injustice done unto you or a loved one and still not standing up to it, you have to be a spineless shrimp to do nothing. 0 respect for people like that.

It’s all logic based. If a rule makes sense, I’m fine with it. I like a certain level of order, but if it doesn’t make sense, it has to be broken and I don’t care of the implications. I’ll worry about them if I get caught. However, catch me if you can. Is that character an INTJ?

I don't own a TV and don't remember the lat time I watched something. I rather stare at a wall and think of my own story, than spend that time watching someone esle's vision. Sounds bad, but. . .
Rules are made for stupid people, like being mandatory to wear a seat belt.
Also, sometimes you get better results by not following the rules. And no, I don't mean comitting crimes or hurting people in anyway.

I HATE selective enforcement in principle: if people think it’s okay to allow the legal system to let some people off the hook and not others the law should be repealed. Bureaucrats are good at telling people they like how to get away with things that others ha be to pay for. That’s not fair. Too many things are illegal that don’t rise to being universally enforced, like speeding or giving advice without a license. If a law or rule violates the inalienable equal rights we share, it is null and void and can’t be broken. But INTJs may ignore it.

But I actually come to full stops at stop signs regardless of witnesses, because traffic court is not one of the battles I have time for, and it's just a good habit to have. But if I were on a jury I wouldn't convict anyone unless they were being dangerous. Breaking big bad rules is more rewarding.
A lot of it resonated with me. I deliberately destroyed a door at work in order to do my work. The looks of the other people were priceless... (we had a tight time schedule and a dear colleague of mine managed to break the key in the lock of the said door which contained mission-critical equipment/supplies).
I do wonder how you think INTJs relate to extroversion, or rather ENTP, ESTP, and ENTJs. Personally, I do think that I have the most overlap with them, except for the fact that I'm quite introverted.
I also wonder about whether INTJs are born or shaped through life experiences. Personally, I lean more toward the latter...
I've definately made jaws drop before at work lol. Humans are complex so it's definately a mixture of both and the way I explain MBTi is that it's just how we filter information. Can you explain a bit more what you mean when you say overlap with the Extroverted types? I want to make sure I understand your question completely.

On the one side, if you think of leader types, I think it's mostly ENTJ, and ESTJ, but the first introverted type many would think of is INTJ, which is quite ironic as INTJ is known as the most introverted type and the one who hates having to deal with people and diplomacy...
At least in my case, I've stepped up to leadership roles because I couldn't stand others complaining, but just keep watching the decline, and fall, and the growth of whatever problem was born of their inaction... Plus, I tend to put myself close to resources and information, because I can't stand being forgotten.
On the other side, I don't always act like an INTJ, even though every letter is quite dominant in my preferences. While acting more like an ENTJ may be sometimes necessary, but ESTP and ENTP are types I can all into and actually enjoy myself. I thus wonder what my connection is to these two types (besides the overlap in letters).
Lastly, I do know that there's a lot more to introversion. Introverted thinking or Intuition can be done by extroverts as well. Similarly, someone can also be cursed by being both extroverted and autistic.
@@edi9892 It's really interesting what you said here. I somewhat relate to it, apart from knowing ENTJs or ESTJs - I don't really know many people. I would totally find myself cursed in a way you described it, yet it's not about extroversion and autistic. I wish you could explain to me more about it with some examples, so I may dig into it and add some information from my side.
@@IntrovertedNTJ I'm not sure, if I understood your question correctly, but here I go: I'm very outgoing when it comes to new ideas, learning new things, sensing... I could chat for a long time with someone who has great ideas or is inspiring to me, but I struggle with everyday human interactions. People put feelings above logic and waste my time with utterly useless stuff and tell me the same old boring story over and over again. That drains me fast. The same goes for trying to understand other people, especially when they're emotionally fragile. I don't know what it is, but I have a much better time reading cats and they bother me far less, even though they can be quite fickle...
@@edi9892 Yep, totally same here. I simply shut down when emotions go in a way. This is why my friends are INTP, ENTP and two INFJs (they are mostly really logical people for some reason). Sorry for your confusion, I suck at explaining what I mean. I was into the "While acting more like an ENTJ may be sometimes necessary". At home I am day dreaming, sleeping long just to prolong my dreamland, working on a project, or learning whole day long, but when I encounter people who aren't any close circle to me, I've learnt as a teen to act firm, confident and argumentative, so people don't use me like a toy and leave in a corner of the room - they wouldn't bother. So I totally come as ENTJ to "randoms" while people who know me bettter say I am totally an introverted nerd, who has always been this way. My curse tho is that I like to talk a lot, but it drains me at the same time, so I feel like there are two weirdos in me.
