0:00 - Intro
Musician & songwriter Ayla Tesler-Mabe shares her six favorite Hendrix chords in-depth, including different variations and root movements.
0:42 - E7#9
A classic Hendrix chord is found in songs like "Purple Haze."
2:33 - A Major
A new take on an otherwise known classic A major chord.
4:28 - G# m7
Ayla describes this chord as a chord that "defines the sound of the 60's". A beautiful chord that's in songs like "Angel."
7:12 - Asus2
This is a great chord to add more color and flavor to a regular open A major chord.
8:28 - A7sus2
A cool way to play a dominant 7 sus 2 chord where you can move it up and down the fretboard (almost) chromatically.
10:15 - A/C#
This last chord appears in songs like "Wait Until Tomorrow," specifically in the intro. The chord sounds great with hammer-ons and moved two frets down.
About Ayla Tesler-Mabe:
Ayla has been making waves in the world of guitar playing as a professional guitarist, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, since the early age of 14. After only been playing for two years, her first UA-cam video (a rendition of John Mayall’s “Hideaway”) put her on the map and kickstarted her music career. She has since been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, become a member of the Ernie Ball and Fender family of artists, and earned various Berklee College of Music scholarships. Musically, Ayla finds great pleasure in exploring the numerous avenues available to her through various styles of music, as seen through her work with Calpurnia and Ludic.

Hey do Pail gap the greatest Jimi song ever
Thank you for being so verbally descriptive and how you formed those cords. As a blind person that really makes a difference when people describe what they’re doing. Awesome job!
Hi amazing lesson. Those are some great chords. I wrote them all down. Your a great player of Hendrix. If he were here I think he might say, dial back the reverb. Just a bit. Dont saturate your beautiful playing with effects. Use them "conservatively." Thanx for the lesson!
Its wrong information and keeps fooling the audience.
Blind man watchin you tube .
well i call BULLSHIT .
@@dreyn7780 maybe instead of playing video games you should learn guitar? I don't like when people down people like that for no reason whatsoever!
How much Jimi taught us at only age 27. I feel a little empty every time thinking how much more we could have seen from him! Great lesson.
Sean Patrick Murphy it's heartbreaking what we lost when we lost Jimi
I think about this all the time, he was a mad scientist in the guitar and music world. Jonny Greenwood, Dimebag Darrell, SRV, and EVH were and have been extremely groundbreaking and inventive to technique and sound, but nobody changed as much as Jimi, and that was without much in effects and recording technology. Jonny (and Radiohead in general) is the only one who really comes close.
@@davidclark625 Absolutely. Most of my favorites were influenced by him, what would they be without? And I think it's easy now for us to forget how much genius went into innovation back then, with no Internet. You essentially did need to think it up originally.
Try Hank Marvin...
It absolutely BLOWS my mind to think of what he achieved in such a short time.
Hi, I’ve been playing guitar for 60 years now and I “stumbled” onto your channel. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your fresh approach and youthful enthusiasm. I’m a new subscriber, ‘cause you never stop learning from other players.🎸❤️
I’ve been playing for 24 years and I feel the same way she teaches and it’s fun to watch great job and great for new guitar players who want to get into playing and even for guys like me as well I didn’t know the Jimi Hendrix chord 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Hey Chuck.. you may be democrat and here, I agree with you.. You've been playing a little longer than I.. Best wishes.
❤ your work. Jimi lives.
I've been playing guitar over 60 years and I can't tell you how much I love your videos. It's a pleasure watching a guitar player doing instructional video that doesn't start off looking like an audition! Kudos to you!
whenever i see ayla, i click fast. humble, talented, knowledgeable, and very articulate ❤️
And wrong and a liar and has been reported for misleading and spam information.
Not 1 jimi hendrix brand product was played or purchased or heard during the making of this video.
If you do it again you're going to be reported too.
Thanks . It's good to see young people acknowledge Jimi. I first heard of him on a bus to my tenth grade class. I picked up the guitar at that point and never took formal lessons. You are great on guitar. I think Hendrix would be honored that you have such an appreciation for his playing. I love what you are doing. I was in tenth grade in 1971.
Greatness Stays Alive In love With GOD PATH
Wrong, wrong and wrong.
Gossip lies.
Damn jimmy rode the same bus as you?
15 years old, Hendrix gets his first guitar.
21 yo, discharged from the Army, plays guitar for Isley Brothers and Little Richard (has only been playing for SIX YEARS).
24 years old. Top of the UK charts for 'Hey Joe', 'Purple Haze', 'The Wind Cries Mary'
(Only playing for 9 years).
27 year old, dead. (Only playing for 12 years)
I like Ayla. It's like hanging out with a friend on the sofa of the rehearsal room showing each other some guitar tricks. It's entertaining, educating and relaxing at the same time. Good energy.
You play beautifully but you need to stop sticking your wrist out or you're gonna give yourself carpal tunnel fix that
To hear you saying "probably one of the biggest jimmi hendrix fans on the planet"
is just a reassurance that everything is in place
... who's never bought anything from the JH brand product range.
Its Obvious you're deaf and blind cause not 1 jimi hendrix brand item was used during the making of this video.
You've been reported for misleading information comment.
Isn't Watching her gives you positive vibes ? I love to wach her teaching whatever she teaches with smile and joyfulness .. 💖
She is boring actually

Think your in love man 🥰😍
@@VlonceDaBoy That's what your wife tells her friends concerning your skills in the boudoir.
you are so right .
I wish I could find a guitar teacher who teaches in this no nonsense, enthusiastic style here in the Uk.
Here it is, dude! The rest goes on your effort😉
Mike is personal effort mate + teacher's will to help without keeping you behind in knowledge and tips. Few teachers give you the gist and more profound understanding. all and all is 12 notes 7 modes (+ varieties of styles created based on each one of them) and shapes! Cheers
Listen play for loud Noise HuMM. Golf is a difficult Practice Too
You don’t need a teacher. Teach yourself, use your brain and just play. And try not just copy other people- just play man.
It’s your imagination that takes your playing to unbelievable heights and Hendrix was on a whole other level…… that he did everything on that Guitar possible 🎸 and his mission on earth was completed…… crazy
I don’t even play guitar but I loved this video. What a talented and genuinely lovely person.
I'm glad you are such a fan of JH. I was lucky enough to see him live three times when he was in the UK. Without a doubt he was mesmerising. Keep the faith Ayla and keep playing
Nice, I was at the Maui concert age the ripe old age of 7

What I most liked was the theory behind. It's amazing to know not only how but also why.
So cool Ayla! Thanks for taking your time to learn us all of these. Just watched your last video about how to get rid of the buzz sound when we plug the guitar. Now watching this, its actually a little bit annoying indeed. You are an awesome soul. Take care !

The Beatles were doing that E DOM7 sharp 9 before Jimi. The Beatles were doing a lot of 7th's, Minor's also in a lot of they're early songs.

I like that your including the "chordal movements" that are possible with these chords.

I gotta brag again. I saw Jimi play in Oakland in 1969, he opened with "Fire" & closed with Voodoo Chile, what a show, if I remember correctly, tickets were 4.50 where I sat, I wanna go back in time! Yea, I'm an old guy. Rock on. Thanks for the lesson.

Thanks . I very much appreciate the run through . Always good to brush up theory to break repetitive habits
Really enjoyed this, go girl go..
Hi and many thanks Ayla, hope you are well and having a good time. Very grateful for your help on unravelling Jimi’s secrets. There will never be another Jimi, although a few come close…. Have you listened to Jackie Vernon? She has the Hendrix fluidity and free spirit, as you have. Kind regards from the Norwegian mountains, Alex, retired dr, now sheep farmer! ….. and amateur guitarist.
This is a great lesson and such a clear description of these chords. But the best part of this is at 09:50 Always move your body to the beat. It makes a huge difference to the vibe you put out when you play. Hear the drums iny our mind and play to them. Always play to the mind drums!
blew my mind you are very talented and a great teacher keep up the good work
Great video. Congrats on all your Jimi homework. You make a great teacher. He would be proud. Good luck with your playing and channel :)
Hendrix was godlike! Thanks so much for sharing these lessons. You're amazing. I'm so glad I found among all the UA-cam hacks.
Stuff I already knew but didn't know the theory behind it. Thank you, I'll be watching this again in the morning when I'm awake!
you're a great inspiration! thanks for your videos...I am a big Hendrix fan too..keep playing
Nice lesson Ayla! The G#m7 is part of a progression from E to F#m to G#m (where you can also go up to A) used in “Sweet Melissa”, in Chicago’s music, and many more
Great video🙏🙏👌Thx
So totally enjoyed the video thank you for sharing! Got a couple of stratocasters by hap chance brought into my life. Electronic keyboard brought me the guitar put in my hands acoustic different circumstances. I'm a singer-songwriter now. Here a few strat players in Seattle downtown have been playing on the streets. Love the sound.really looking forward to learning how to do what you shared thank you so much. 👍 Good things for you and yours always. Bravo! You Rock!!!
Great video thank you
The hum in this video is GRATING.
Beautiful,thanks
She is great and love her.
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing these videos and no ads I appreciate it. I like to learn all different kinds of music and try to incorporate it into one of my songs somehow but I need to get with it again it's a giant stress reliever music can heal your soul. Personally the best musicians I know where I live they don't play this song exactly they always change something and they do it on purpose to give it a little of their own personality. I don't think anybody plays the song exactly the same every time do they? The best musicians where I live they have good days and bad days also but if you didn't know music you'd never noticed they missed a note or two or something they just keep going and that's really hard to do
