There are Coney Island Lunch places in Scranton, in Shamokin, in Johnstown, in Erie, and other places. It is not a chain, they are independently owned ... but they are all excellent. I do like the 5 Guys hot dog, had one yesterday in fact. But yes, they are expensive. The best hot dog I've ever had though is from a small chain in the Tampa, Florida area called Mel's Hotdogs. Just perfection. I'll be halfway through my first and I'll be thinking about buying a second. I'll be half way through my second and be thinking about buying a third. Nathan's are consistently good, but my favorite dog comes from Green Bay, WI. The Cher-Make stadium dogs, also marketed as "Badger" stadium hot dogs are jumbo and juicy and super tasty. I get 'em shipped to me in South Georgia.

R.I.P the hot dog shoppe it was on gulf to bay clearwater, Florida. almost everything great u could put on a hot dog!! I ate there in the late 70s and early 80s increadible!!
As a teen back in NJ we used to stop at a hot dog stand on the way back from roller skating. Those were some good hot dogs. Don't know they brand, but the guy put two rows of small slices into the hot dogs and then deep fried them. He served them on a toasted bun. Crispy dogs on a crunchy bun. Decades later I still think about those dogs occasionally. So, so good. Absolutely the best way to cook a hot dog.
Dairy Queen is actually one of the best in my country (Panamá). But tbh hot dogs taste better done at home. People rarely take the risk of ordering hot dogs at restaurants. It's usually dissappointing.
Remember in the early sixties, it was a boiled pork meat hot dog (whatever was on sale that week), dressed with mustard and/or ketchup, relish, and onions? On a slice of wonder bread? At local yokal little league games, that was all the bench-warmers got to look forward to after the game was over. Oh..and Five Guys?...a Complete Rip-Off (expensive and harsh taste...NO Hot-dog should cost more than $2.50)
The best Chili dogs I have eaten were made with the hotdogs were taken out of the boiling water then dipped into the Chili then placed on a toasted bun then the chili was put on over the frank then the diced onions and then the Mustard.. and the Fries were the Steak fries.... The Chili was made with chopped Beef like the Chopped Beef that You can get at bbq restaurants in the Chopped Beef Sandwiches.... those were the best Chili dogs I have ever had.... I can still taste them and Smell them... They don't make them like that anymore...Me and my brother could enjoy those Chilidogs for$1.50 fries included and Then $1.00 for a Large Coke.... But the owner of the place died and his Family Chose not to Continue with the Business....
I think the Dairy Queen issue is an individual franchise owner issue and not the chain overall. I once knew of a Wienschnitzel franchisee who tried to use canned chili from Smart n Final. Numerous complaints almost cost him his franchise.
Many hot dog brands are regional and not available throughout the U.S. This list is terrible and should eliminate the "fast food" aspect and focus on the quality of the hot dog itself. For me, here in Michigan; Number 1; Hebrew National Number 2; Dearborn brand all beef hot dogs Number 3; Nathan's All Beef Number 4; Koegal's All Beef OR... Koegal's Vienna's for the skin with the snap. Different states have differing quality standards for hot dog, sausage and lunch meat production and this should be your guide in searching for a quality hot dog.

Hey, what about A & W. Delicious 😋 😋
I was wondering where Sonic would be on this list and was really surprised there were at number 2. Their Footlong Chili Cheese dog with mustard and onion is AMAZING!!! I worked there for several years as a manager and ate those things all the time.
I find for the price, taste and condiments, 7-11 hot dogs are quite good.
Our Dairy Queen is fairly new and they have the best chili hot dogs around. I guess it depends on location.
Hoffman's Frank's and white hots RULE!!!
Steak n Shake has hot dogs.
Why do so many of these companies show their dogs with ketchup? That no more belongs on a hotdog than it does on ice cream
I loved getting hot dogs in LA. Wrapped in bacon etc oof! But how in gods name are you ranking Sonic above like Weinerschnitzel or Nathans???!!?!
Dairy Queen is actually one of the best in my country (Panamá). But tbh hot dogs taste better done at home. People rarely take the risk of ordering hot dogs at restaurants. It's usually dissappointing.
I do love me a good hotdog, thanks for the list.
Oh..and Five Guys?...a Complete Rip-Off (expensive and harsh taste...NO Hot-dog should cost more than $2.50)
I like Texas Tommies ; a cheese stuffed hot dog wrapped in bacon. I only have one on July 4th but it's worth looking forward to.❤😋
The reviewer is mental. Portillo should be number 1. No comparison.
Someone needs to visit Houston, and eat at James Coney Island.
DQ it was happening back in the 80s
4:12 It's Coney Island, not Colony Island.
The QuikTrip convenience stores have pretty good hot dogs, and you can dress them yourself for a meal which is quick and fairly inexpensive.
2023 Chicago Portillo's Hot Dogs & Italian Beefs is Finally in TEXAS...North Dallas and Coming Soon to Houston. I was Made in Chicago. (southside)
Hardies use to sell hotdog and l loved them also Sonic sold a Chicago dog and lived it also. Do sad that both quit selling them.
Portillo should have been #2 and Nathan’s #1
Ted's Hotdog in Western NY are excellent
These are the absolute best hotdogs ever!!!!
I think the Dairy Queen issue is an individual franchise owner issue and not the chain overall. I once knew of a Wienschnitzel franchisee who tried to use canned chili from Smart n Final. Numerous complaints almost cost him his franchise.
They don't sell hotdogs at DQ's here in Michigan. Not sure why
Hey jen..nathan's is not owned by china it's a family business...and the original is in Brooklyn,ny...coney island Brooklyn
Best one I ever had was at a hotdog stand in Iceland, the hot dogs are made with lamb, and they are amazing
We have no Sonic or Shake Shack in Fort Wayne, Indiana...
Mmmm Polish sausage…..Ditka….Bears…
Yea, i miss those occasional polish dogs at Costco.
whoever did this test has no taste buds!
Or maybe the joint they went to were worse or better than the joints you go to. And people have different taste buds
Many hot dog brands are regional and not available throughout the U.S.
This list is terrible and should eliminate the "fast food" aspect and focus on the quality of the hot dog itself.
For me, here in Michigan;
Number 1; Hebrew National
Number 2; Dearborn brand all beef hot dogs
Number 3; Nathan's All Beef
Number 4; Koegal's All Beef
OR...
Koegal's Vienna's for the skin with the snap.
Different states have differing quality standards for hot dog, sausage and lunch meat production and this should be your guide in searching for a quality hot dog.
Houston, Texas 1923 James Coney Island "Chicago Style" and Chili-Cheese Coney are Great, Mmm.
Coney made 1st in Cincinnati. No skyline on this list is sad.
