Gilbert has a big platform that he can use to educate his audience or bring entertainment, but instead he decides to be a professional hater, bringing other players down for no reason, he just sounds so bitter and a bit jealous too.
I thought that too until I actually heard him explain his takes. Jokic is the worst multi MVP winner. He isn't the worst player obviously but he is the worst multi MVP winner. The UA-cam you're watching is manipulating you.
@@AnonymousUser-ss2qr You are the one that is being manipulated. Jokić haters are the only ones who don't think objectively and rationally, but hate him because he is not American, because he is from a country that is an enemy of the US (and in some cases because he is white).
Gilbert Arenas says that others think with emotions (projection) and that we should let AI decide who will be the MVP.
The basketball reference MVP tracker chose Jokić to be the MVP in 2021, 2022 and in 2023. If you let AI decide the MVP not only would have Jokić won the last 3 MVPs, but virtually no player would stand a chance of winning an MVP award in the next couple of years.
Gilbert Arenas doesn't know what he is talking about and that was demonstrated to a decent extent in this video.
I would just like to add one more thing to this video, when Gilbert Arenas lied that Jokić was the first player to win 2 MVPs without 50 wins, this wasn't just a lie (Moses Malone did this before Jokić as pointed out in this video), the 2021 NBA season lasted 72 games, not 82 games. Nuggets won 47 games that season. They didn't have a 47-35 record, but a 47-25 record.
The only thing that Gilbert Arenas has is that Nuggets were 3rd and 6th in the two MVP seasons. That doesn't mean Jokić is the worst 2 times MVP winner, it means that criteria for MVP award changed in 2017 when Westbrook won it from a 6th place while having way worse stats than Jokić.
maybe hes preparing for clown school
i mean if you watch the nba and dont see that jokic is the most dangerous player, i dont think u can add a lot of value through argumentation. dont even need the numbers. if u look at advanced stats u come to the same conclusion, so… i cant see how u can know basketball and not see what jokic does to the game. he probably just speaks in bad faith.
@@student99bg the goal posts were lowered the most for jokic. Facts are facts. Don’t get emotional
Jokic didn’t have his 2nd and 3rd best players on his team one of those seasons and he still took the team to the playoffs.
MPJ is not better than Gordon. No chance.
@@JoseFranco9 maybe not now but in 2021 MPJ was seen as their 3rd best player and AG had just come from Orlando and was figuring out his role going from the man to a super role player. @@nicolasmartinez795 Nah MPJ always had similar numbers and a worse defensive impact. I hate the narrative that MPJ was a massive blow. That season Gordon was getting hella disrespected. Gilbert Arenas is a perfect example as to why being a former player doesn't mean squat when it comes to speaking about the game. I wouldn't be surprised if Gil legitimately believes everything he says, too.
Arenas definitely suffers mental health problems. He brought a gun into his teams locker room. It makes sense why he's one sided in his views and so xenophobic.
One thing separates Gilbert Arenas from other famous basketball players. I read a lot of comments about him and I noticed that there is no basketball player in the world whom people call an idiot, a clown, a racist and a xenophobe more often.
Gil brought up stats to back his claim, yall disagreeing with emotions
He watches Nick, Perkins and Stephen A. Smith to learn how to be a troll.

Gilbert Arenas makes me feel like I'm losing brain cells whenever he talks.
Losing brain cells is bringing 4 guns into an nba locker room in plain sight. And he is on the air to display his expertise? Just another jealous racist who never was in the running for an mvp..
Gil is lucky that he was crazy athletic cause he has been really exposing his lack of knowledge on the game
He's just a racist
It's like this man gilbert living in 2021 with nick Wright. Did this man miss the last 3 years of regular and postseason jokicball. Dude literally went all-time all-time on everyone's ass last playoff run to the point where people were asking if it's the greatest individual run ever.
At least Nick's point made sense to an extent even tho I disagreed. He even conceded when Jokic won in the playoffs and now rightfully calls him top 15 all time.
Seriously you guys should go to the source whenever these channels put out clips that lack full context. He wasn't saying Jokic is not a great player. He gave examples on what former regular season MVPs did and compared that to the reasons why Jokic got his. Jokic in regards to the MVP, was lacking. He even zoomed in on the handful of MVPs before Jokic and what they did. And to his credit, he said last season was when it really should have gone to Jokic but the media screwed up for 2 years and tried to correct it so they gave Embiid. Rather than handing Jokic 3 straight. If you go back and watch his shows from this time last year, Jokic was the guy he said should win. Then all of a sudden Embiid got it afterwards. Y'all letting content creators mislead you too easily.

I know everyone goes to the xenophobic tag on arenas and all these guys who have takes like him, but I think it’s time we start being a little more specific. Most of these types of takes are being said about Caucasian players. They extend to takes that are said about players like bird, Stockton, and others as well so it’s not just foreigners. But it feels like people are afraid to call it like it is for some reason.
And this isn’t anything new. Isiah Thomas and Rodman both said bird was only hyped so much because of his skin color during the 1987 playoffs. Cedric maxwell said that he was prejudiced against Caucasian players and thought they couldn’t play. Many other players have openly admitted that they feel this type of way and yet no one calls them out on it.
Gilbert Arenas is not xenophobic. He is a straight up racist
Only white people can be racist apparently.
Fr. It’s never against Embiid. It’s always the white boys, in Luka and Jokic. But when Embiid and Giannis are in the convo, he’s noticeably more respectful towards their careers

Don't need to ban them, just need to be better. Which the American player today is not. A handful of European players played in the NBA 30 years ago. If they actually played basketball and not a 3 point contest with no defense, there would be no room for the European player. They're able to run the league today because the American players are so soft. Jokic wouldn't have played 5 minutes in the 90s. They would have broke him up.
Gil gotta stop just saying shit to make a biased argument. That goes for all these nba player podcasts. I'm sick of the bullshit
The Jokic and Tim Duncan disrespect goes hand in hand tbh
Excellent observation. It's so ridiculously true. The problem is that Duncan and Joker were not super flashy, but they low key dominated every game they were in.

The most important variable to winning an MVP is your competition.
You’re not competing with previous MVPs, you’re competing with your peers. If you average 15 points, but everyone else averages 10 you’re going to win. Similarly, if you average 40 but someone else averages 50, then you’re not going to win.
The years he won it, he was the best candidate. One time was his production and the sheer efficiency. Other time, everyone else was hurt.

Jokic has never played with an all-star. Let that sink in.
This is so true too (I think :D)
Gilbert Arenas projects when he says" dumbing down the game"...
Thats not an overstatement.
He was part of the dumbing down of the game. It started during his era.
A summary of Jokic's last four regular seasons
1.
2020-21 : 26.5 pts 10.8rebs , 8.3 ast (57% fg, 38% 3 ).
Carried the injured Nuggets to the 3rd seed in the West. (Murray tore his ACL, Will Barton and Monte Morris missed a lot of games).
In this season Jokic shot a whopping 14% more efficiently than Westbrook in his MVP season (twice the gap in efficiency between OKC Kd and Weetbrook).
2. 2021-2022
27/ 13.8/ 7.9/ 1.5 / 1 on 58%fg
This season is beyond historic. He carried the depleted Nuggets to the Playoffs. No Murray, No Porter Jr and a bunch of g league players to 48 wins (6th seed in the West).
He broke Wilt's player efficiency record season, led the league in every advanced stat and set new records (2000 points, 1000 rebounds, 500 assists in a season,
the only player that is top ten in the league in 5 different total categories : points, rebounds, assists, steals, field goal percentage)
3. 2022-23
24.5/11.8/ 9.8 on 63%fg and 38% from 3
Jokic was selected for 2nd team all NBA and finished second in the MVP race.
As a result of Perkin's accusations Jokic last weeks of the season were less dominant than over the course of the season where at at one point in March he was averaging 25/12/10 on 60%fg/ 40% from 3.
Jokic, for the first time with a healthy roster in his prime led the Nuggets to the 1st seed in the West.
This season is the highest true shooting 20 point game season ever with 70%, surpassing Kd and Curry's most efficient seasons.
4. 2023-24
26/12.3/9 57%fg
Jokic is as dominant as usual and once again he has the Nuggets as a top 2 seed in the difficult Western Conference. Jokic ranks fifth in total points, third in total rebounds, second in total assists.
Jamal Murray missed roughly 20 games.
In the past four seasons Jokic has been the best combination of floor raising, team value, dominance, efficiency and talent in the history of the NBA.
If Jokic was black this wouldn’t even be a narrative and we’d be talking about, “could Jokic overtake Lebron?”
I am white, but I think you are like 80% right. Other 20% is because he is not flashy and not look athletic :D He is modest. That's not a popular trait for a "star"
Thats 2nd mvp was given due to the fact murray and mpj were out due to injury and yet jok still managed to get a playoff spot.
Joker has cultivated the game of basketball and made a great reset.
Fake arguments on ESPN is why I stopped watching ESPN 14 years ago.

Gilbert so salty that the 2 best players in NBA right now are white, jokic and luka should teabag him
The Nuggets were the 3-seed in the West when Jokic won his first MVP
Man saying without hesitation that 26/12/9 is not a historic statline is just outrageous and hilarious at the same time. If he looks at advanced stats throughout last 4 years it's a pure dominance on both offensive and defensive side. I totally can not get why American Media hate him so much.

We been through da Joker slander last yr
I feel like everybody has forgotten what the arguments were for Jokic. By the advanced stats he had arguably the greatest statistical season ever.
Last time it was Perkins, now it's Arenas, next year will be someone else, etc...
I think it comes down to two things, for Arenas (and many Americans): Jokic isn't a flashy player; he's not high-flying and exciting in that way; and he's not American. Americans do not like it when a non-Americans dominates their sport. If Jokic was American, he would garner way more support and praise.

And these goofballs who cling to the word tripple double in of itself. If someone average 9.3 assists or has a game where they have crazy high points and rebounds, but only 9 assists, it's somehow a failure. Somehow if they were to get that 1 assist the heavens would part and music plays and a players game magically becomes great when that one 9 stat becomes 10. The degree of stupidity that exists in sports analysis is more than I'm able to take on a regular basis... I would go crazy like this anti jokic dude. Tripple double in of itself is just a little fun metric. At the end of the day it's representative of a player doing well in multiple categories. You could go game by game where a player has a near tripple double vs a tripple double and odds are those triple double games aren't going to be anymore impressive on average then the near tripple double games. Naturally due to Jokic's game and skill set, he's almost always going to be at or around a tripple double. It's already impressive.
It’s not just about dominating the game and the league but also making your teammates better

Excellent rebuttal! Someone did his homework on the stats. Someone else didn't. Good job, man!!
Best/ Best used to be the only criteria for MVP and it used to be a team award. Arenas' overall argument is correct, but his specifics are off-kilter....during the TV expansion of the NBA the best player on the best team won the award...the mvp was a team award, not an individual award...this would give 2 options every year, a player from the East or a player from the West....the reason for this is because the number 1 seed had a massive advantage in going deeper into the playoffs and the league would cash in on the facetime of the MVP making a deep playoff run....the year Novitski won the MVP as a number 1 seed and got bounced in the first round is when they rethought the process. Also nowadays we are not in the tv expansion era nor do players even care about the number 1 seed.
We are currently more in a trolling online era and the writers and MVP voters are only concerned about growing their own brand as opposed to voting with tradition. That is why they keep voting for the wrong guy because it gives the writers like Mannix more facetime to argue his position while simultaneously making more intelligent or grounded people feel bad. Mannix will continually say, "well i have a vote and you dont....well i have a vote and you dont" every time he tries to argue his point not caring about tradition or even if his vote is in the right place....
There are multiple factors involved, but mainly the players do not care about the number 1 seed which has shifted the care they have for a traditional MVP...
