Tremendous list Chris, and I think you called it right with the number 1 choice. A personal favourite of mine is 'Speedy's Coming' from The Scorpions' second album. Might be tempted to include 'Detroit Rock City' too. For AC/DC I'd have gone with 'It's a Long Way to the Top'...we were on holiday in Scotland over the summer and one evening I was sitting in the garden of the place we were staying and I heard it being played really loud from somewhere across the Loch, bagpipes and all.
Some great choices there James. Good shout especially with Kiss. Going to do a closers video at some point. Have thought of at least 25 straight off without even looking!! Thanks for watching my friend, Chris
man some awesome classic hard rock albums and stunning openers, i have most of these on vinyl, but not lone star, i have shark island havent listened to that for many a year, cheers chris
Good times and good tunes a great video as always. I'll definitely check out that Lone Star track. I would've added Can't Get Enough, the lead track from Bad company's first album and I love Sweet Leaf from Sabbath' s Master of Reality. The song Black Sabbath is killer too, great on a Halloween soundtrack. Mott the Hoople's All the Way from Memphis opens Mott quite nicely too. Cheers
Superb run through, and much kudos for featuring Budgie, Montrose and especially Lone Star. Suspect that you were also glued to Tommy Vance’s Friday Night Rock Show, which is where this selection immediately transported me back to, although it’s Space Station No. 5 that will forever be etched in my mind as that show’s theme song. And if you ever get that radio show, you’re guaranteed at least one listener! Cheers, Chris!
I used to love TV on the radio! There’s a few websites with all the shows on them. Great stuff thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers, Chris
Hi Chris hope you are well and having a great week so far another joyful video highlighting lots of albums I don’t really know or have ever listened to but I need to start a Spotify playlist with some of the stuff you recommend I agree with you about thin lizzy I was a bit late to the party I guess I really only started getting into them early 2000s wish I’d seen them live apparently according to you were awesome live I have seen LIMEHOUSE LIZZY the tribute band which were brilliant by the way on my 40th birthday have a brilliant rest of your week and I’ll look forward to seeing your next one take care mate STEVE
I had a strong feeling that your Deep Purple pick would be Speed King, although as I thought about it, I considered Highway Star could be a choice as well. Glad to see my first instinct was the right one.
Interesting list Chris, used to have lone star on vinyl many moons ago, great opener in Bells of Berlin, deep purple choice would be Burn, but my favourite opener is bad for good by Jim Steinman from the album of the same name, nearly 9 mins, never let's up, you need a lie down in a dark room when it's done.
Great choices Chris - especially the top 20. Yes, absolutely agree thst Black Sabbath is the best opening hard rock song. With Hawkwind, like Deep Purple, there are several candidates eg Spirit of the Age from Quark, Deathtrap from PXR5 but i think i would choose Assault and Battery from Warrior. For AC/DC, i am an all out Bon Scott fan so i would go for Riff Raff from If You Want Blood live album - the way the song builds to a crescendo at the beginning before launching into a fast riff. Other great openers for hard rock bands for me are: High Priest of Love by Zodiac Mindwarp Stop by Jane's Addiction Autonomous Zone by Killing Joke Swamped by Lacuna Coil Once by Pearl Jam Dark Lady by the Scorpions Reise Reise by Rammstein Birth School Work Death by the Godfathers And Rusty Cage by Soundgarden I appreciate that some by try to argue about the genre of these bands, but these particular songs fall into hard rock.
Great list Damien. I deliberately didn’t include live albums but Riff Raff is a wonderful opener. Shame Powerage doesn’t start with that. Gimme a Bullet wasn’t the right opening track for me. Spirit of the age is a great shout as is Assault and Battery. Thanks for watching and leaving a great comment. Cheers my friend, Chris
You could take over the 'Johnny Walker' slot on Radio 2, Chris, I think your great knowledge of rock/pop music and your enthusiasm would make an excellent show.
Hi again Chris, not so sure about a lot of your choices but of the one's I have heard like Thin Lizzy which I can't argue with and Black Sabbath and most definitely Motorhead. There was one band I don't think you mentioned and that was Nazareth, the album Rampant with the opener Silver Dollar Forger. I don't know why it stuck with me because I borrowed of a mate of mine way back in the mid 70's before punk came along. Anyway cheers can't wait for the next one.
I totally admire your enthusiasm for all types of music, when I was young most of my mates were into Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc. then UFO, Motörhead (saw them in 1980 and aye, my ears were affected for days 😂.). I was more into punk/post punk but my taste widened greatly with age, some absolute classics in this video. When you get your radio show up and running, I’m definitely a listener, cheers Chris.
@@andygray7478 I do like lots of different stuff. Hard rock is my favourite though. Thanks for watching Andy and taking the time to comment again. Cheers, Chris
Great list Chris. Bells of Berlin was always played as the last song at a fortnightly Heavy Night I went to in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Guy who ran it had brilliant light-show and pyrotechnics . Health & Safety would have a field day nowadays 😅
interesting variety there, not a genre I was particularly into really apart from the more common bands, so only a brief flirtation during my student days. Not sure with Hawkwind, what type of band were they exactly, though Warrior on the Edge of Times' opening track Magnu is pretty amazing I think

Cheers Steve. Silver Dollar Forger has a Montrose riff if memory serves me right. Bit like Space Station No 5. Thanks for watching my friend
Some brilliant choices here Chris! Lone Star I agree! A few I'm not familiar with! Will check them out! 👍I have most of them and you are spot on! 😊
@@ianemery4355 cheers Ian. Some classics for sure.
that whole VH Fair Warning album is full of killer riffs, love Budgie as well, fair enought with Black Sabbath
@@The.Last.Guitar.Hero. love Fair Warning. Guitar playing is off the chart

Wonderful tune. Wish the rest of the album lived up to that standard.
@@TheVinylOrchard agreed. Separately, Doremi Fasol Latido was the first Album I bought via Britannia Music Club……remember them?
@zakandthomas blimey I do remember Britannia. Great memories
@@TheVinylOrchardI listened to Rainbow Rising today. Not a bad track on there imo. Which one lets it down for you Chris?
@zakandthomas do you close your eyes. Apparently Kill the King was being rehearsed at the time Imagine that being on RR instead of DYCYE
Excellent collection agree with most but maiden would be one for me anyway
Great band James. Prowler is a brilliant opening track. Cheers, Chris

Magnu was a contender for this list. Archetypal Hawkwind. Cheers Deborah!
How about Whitesnake and Still of the Night from 1987? Storming opener. You could do album closers next......
@@MrWD61 it is indeed. Consider led Fool too. Closers- almost inevitable!
