Great watching these videos of yours, certainly brings the memories flooding back. Two bands that would have been in my top 50 The Valves or The Wasps.
Hi, Chris. 100% agree on including songs by The Jam. When people 'this ain't punk' (or whatever genre!) I've always maintained it's always hard to label lots of things. I mean, The Jam, Police, Elvis Costello etc used punk & new wave as a vehicle to get themselves known, then once established, branched off into many different musical styles to suit their own personal tastes.

Oh wow, what a top 3. This perfect Day is just, well, perfect. The Ramones Beat On The Brat is my favourite tune by them. Wonderful selection Chris. The Boys also released stuff as The Yobs. Great collection but no Dead Boys Sonic Reducer!? I’d also add Emergency by 999, Car Crash by the Avengers, Love and a Molotov Cocktail by the Flys, China’s Eternal by The Tights, Better Off Dead by La Peste, Right To Work by Chelsea, Young Savage by Ultravox, Ambition by Subway Sect, Where Have All The Bootboys Gone, Ghosts Of Princes In Towers, King Rocker, Stereo Love, and definitely Bring Me The Head Of Yukio Mishima by the Snivelling Shits!
Only got sonic reducer on LP. Mentioned that at start. Chelsea, and rich kids were on shelves behind me. Slaughter and dogs was at 47. Flys, Tights are in my collectio. Still looking for subway sect
Just watched this with sheer delight - I think I actually owned at least 40 of these back in the day. I think a more affordable 45 pressing of 'New Rose' is the 1981 reissue, i have a charity shop rescue copy bought for about 45p in the early 2000's. Great video as always, cheers!

Particularly bands like Wire, the clash, the cramps etc.
Great choices, some tunes there. Been listening to several of those myself today, would've had The Ruts much higher, they could've been huge, great shame.
Hi there from America. Really enjoy your videos. I collected from back in the day and still somehow managed to keep in possession most of my records. I have that Chelsea 45 in your shelf with a wrong label on the b-side. A Step Forward record I believe but instead of the The Loner by Chelsea, it states "Television Families" by The Cortinas. Kind of wondering what the misprinted label is worth?
@@TheVinylOrchard My wrong they are from 79 till mid 80's. I missed the years when I was watching. I stepped in a bit later. Sorry my good friend Chris
@@TheVinylOrchard These bands are great with excellent lyrics. The band Conflict (The Serenade is Dead) you have to listen to the UK one. Once I had a conflict about Conflict. There is also an American one. Crass (Bloody Revolutions) and Poison Girls (Persons Unknown) put those 2 songs on this split single. The best split single ever made. The Ex - All corpses smell the same. Rudimentary Peni - Media Person.
There's quite a lot i'd disagree with, but mostly i can't believe you'd rate This Perfect Day over Know Your Product (mock outrage aside, i think it's best the Saints single by a long way, but love This Perfect Day too). Somewhere within 77-79 was a compilation album with probably 20 songs featuring some of the bands in your top 50. Also in that time was a compilation EP with (I think) 5 songs on it. It was album -sized and featured 2 songs by Joy Division ( I think one was Transmission). The other 2 bands were The Thursdays and Bascacx. The cover was a mountain climber. @@mariawesley7583 poly styrene was part of the Bromley contingent along with siouxie Sioux billy idol and others after x ray spex split up she went to religion I believe also died far too young rest in peace
Hi 👋 i can remember first hearing the Sex Pistols and being blown away. The music i was hearing excited me. Its all nostalgic now. Its so long ago now. The bad members havr rejoined together with a new lead singer in place of John Lydon. And i viewed them on youtube , and it was like watching someone doing Karaoke with a back up band. It was like a joke really.
@@Carl-x8y3c sounds one to avoid Carl
@@TheVinylOrchard Definitely, there were these 20 somethings pogoing in the audience like it was 1977. What would they know ?.
Great list. However I would have picked White man in Hammersmith Palais, Teenage Kicks, Emergency by 999, maybe Take me (I'm yours) by Squeeze, Strange Town by The Jam, Jah War by Ruts. But as I said great list with many blasts from the past
@@thomasandersen6719 love Take me I’m yours.
Daft as it may seem to the majority of people I have 3 medium boxes of punk singles these are from box 1 half way through. Here are some you may have heard of
The Wasps - teenage treats
Unwanted - withdrawal 1984
Protex - I can't cope
Cock sparrer - runnin riot
Radio stars- stop it
Head boys - stepping stones
Lurkers - just thirteen
U K Subs - stranglehold
The Dole - new wave love
Killjoys - Johnny won't get to heaven
Radiators - hucklebuck
Punishment of Luxury - Brainbomb
Satans rats - you make me sick
999 -emergency
Cyanide - I'm a boy
Dickies - silent night
Users - kicks in style
Throbbing Gristle - zyklln b zombie
Plummet airlines - silver shirt
Starjets - It really doesn't matter
Maneaters - nine to five
Oh that will do.
Got about half of those. Some of the others are on my wants lists. Some aren’t.
I haven't watched the video yet, but i hope "this perfect day" by saints is here!
How could it not be there?!!!
@@TheVinylOrchard I saw that it came up. I love all this music. Its a little before my time. But as a teen I was into skateboarding and bmx, and I used to watch videos and they often would have punk soundtracks. So I got into all this stuff that way and I love when I hear this kinda music. Particularly bands like Wire, the clash, the cramps etc.
@paulgordon6949 some great tunes for sure. Cheers Paul
Great choices, some tunes there. Been listening to several of those myself today, would've had The Ruts much higher, they could've been huge, great shame.
On some days they undoubtedly would be higher. Varies week to week tbh. Cheers Stephen
I’m sure discogs will tell you
cheers
Hi Chris I total agree with pretty vacant, bought it first day of release, my top 3 singles of alll time, first 30 sec opening amazing won't be beaten
Opens the show Live in Brixton from late 90s. Masterpiece
Excellent list but I do really miss: Crass, Poison Girls, Conflict, The Ex and Rudimentary Peni. I just subscribed
Don’t own those ones but will check them out Freddy. Cheers my friend, Chris
@@TheVinylOrchard My wrong they are from 79 till mid 80's. I missed the years when I was watching. I stepped in a bit later. Sorry my good friend Chris
@freddyagain3843 I’d moved on from punk in 79 to more rock stuff. But this era is very special
@freddyagain3843 cheers Freddie
Complete Control is a masterpiece. Nr. 1 on my list.
So good. They peaked at this time for me
@TheVinylOrchard yes. So would've anyone else. Can't argue with Pretty Vacant though. Best intro ever...
What a riff. Live in Brixton in late 90s on UA-cam- it’s the opening song. Brilliant
There's quite a lot i'd disagree with, but mostly i can't believe you'd rate This Perfect Day over Know Your Product (mock outrage aside, i think it's best the Saints single by a long way, but love This Perfect Day too). Interesting anyway! good to see Larry Wallis and the TV Personalities in there...
@@goodfuzzysounds I adore know your product. I think in my 78 punk singles vid it topped the list
@@TheVinylOrchard oops, wrong year!
@@goodfuzzysounds This video was 1978 as well as 77 and 79. But I did do a separate video on 78 a while ago
Ultravox! Rockwrock has a great B-side: Hiroshima mon amour in a guitar-punk version
Good 45 that’s been in my collection for a number of years. Cheers
great list ,i love jilted john, would have put SLF and television much higher and gone with white riot.
The order changes daily! 😂
Got Big Time by Rudi in paper pullout sleeve, classic song
Very jealous sir!
God Save The Queen best punk single of all time for me , maybe would have stuck early Joy Division in there somewhere ,,,not being picky but never really seen Hanging Around as a single although it should have been ,,great stuff though , i collect punk new wave 45s myself ,,,have New Rose white vinyl but im sure its a 86 anniversary release
@@grock9263 it was a stretch including hanging around but that 45 is monumental
Excellent list, a lot i have and a lot i don't. Do you play them? I only ask as i never play singles anymore, ive lost patience with them! I have fair few of those triple CD packs, best punk/ new wave compliations and they're fantastic, though some more obscure tracks never make the cut.
I have times, usually when people are out, that I play a fair few. I just love having them
Excellent collection agree with number one but not my fav of that album ruts been a bit higher and leaving out nasty nasty would be a hard thing to do for me 😊
I have a very rare version of Nasty Nasty. 78rpm promo. Only 50 made.
Pleased to see Ruts high on list ,for me best punk band ever but id of put Angelic Upstarts..im an upstart high also ,think it was out 1979 ..biggest punk/oi hit ever i think
On reflection they should have been higher. As for AU. Too Oi for me. Cheers, Chris
Mate, you can get Pink Flag from HMV for about £20
Not an original you can’t. Not a fan of new vinyl. Cheers John, Chris
Somewhere within 77-79 was a compilation album with probably 20 songs featuring some of the bands in your top 50. Also in that time was a compilation EP with (I think) 5 songs on it. It was album -sized and featured 2 songs by Joy Division ( I think one was Transmission). The other 2 bands were
The Thursdays and Bascacx. The cover was a mountain climber. I can't remember the name of this EP. Do you recall it?
Wanna Buy a Bridge was the title of the 20-song album.
Earcom was the name of that compilation I think
@@TheVinylOrchard YES!! Thank you!
That is quite the snare drum on Part Time Punks. I think they only used a bottom snare mic on the drum kit. ;)
@@7171jay great sound
@@TheVinylOrchard Yeah, cool and unusual.
Outdoor Miner was lengthened at the behest of EMI. The hope was a shot to get on TOTP. Some intrigue followed and Wire never got on the show.
Great tune. Short or long
@@TheVinylOrchard Adorably covered by Lush!
had quite a few of these, many long gone alas. Spizz Energies Soldier Soldier, Shams Hersham Boys, and Devo with Jocko Homo, not sure of year on that one tho
Great choices. Also own those
@@TheVinylOrchard this did prompt me to have a look through what remains of my record collection. Can I mention B52s Planet Claire, reminds me of talking heads a bit. Regents 17 and an odd one from Lori and the Chameleons, Touch, a Bill Drummond , later of KLF fame, song
@debroahtaylor6398 I do enjoy the first two B52s albums
Just remembered, The Stranglers on 'Grip' pay homage to the Morris 1000 car!
@@nainoswad2725 didn’t know that!
"Didn't have the money for a Morrie Thou"
The Sinatras "Teddy Crashes Blonde Dies."
I Was Going Out With A Girl. And Her Name Was Julie. Guess What She Said, One Night When We Were Watching Telly.
Bonafide classic
Absolutely!
How did Joy Division's "Transmission" not make that list?
Because I sadly don’t own a copy. Great song. Should’ve been on the debut. Cheers Martyn, Chris
Walking down the King's Road, they try to look trendy, I think it's a shame that they all look the same.
Here they come, the part time punks.
Classic.
I've just listened again and you missed Read About Seymour... shame on you, lol.
@@jemwand2530 it was on the shelf. It had tough competition
The Boys dolcissimi.
@@pinofara5646 great band
No, it's "Germ Free Adolescents"!
I have that one too. Contender but just pipped by Identity.
I do have "In A Rut" by The Ruts, on a small reggae imprint, and would have had that, and higher, as my choice.
Oh that’s a great tune. Love it. Choosing one from any band is a proper tough gig
Why no Crass
