Police bodycams should not have a mute button.
    Or an off button.
They should be streaming to a public server all the time.
In the USA, bodycams should be linked to police guns such that the guns will not fire if video is not streaming.
Similarly, police cars should not start if bodycams are not streaming.

Never expect an apology. If they apologize, it means that they have something to apologize for, and that implicates them and makes any lawsuit a slam dunk.

That Chief (was an ass), those officers should all be suspended w/out pay for a month & this violation of this citizen's rights complaint should be placed in those officers' permanent record. Who is overseeing this Chief in these issues? He/they can say, "No wrongdoing was found, and those videos can end up missing. Also, officers should NEVER be allowed to turn the body cameras off or mute the audio. I do hope the victim sues the police in court & wins... The original officer went on hearsay w/out checking the facts (nothing new) and wrongfully detained this citizen w/out cause.

But at my core while I criticize it a lot, I do love America, I believe it can be better than its worst demons and the only way forward is to be aware of what the problems are, what kind of people will exploit your anger and frustration, and fight like hell for a better day.

Okay, state or fed agency for police misconduct. In the pursuit of justice reform it adds another layer of accountability, plus what's more by making it a state or federal case, it takes it out of the hands of local cops and prosecutors, guys who are literally invested in coaching these crooked cops on saying "im scared, I thought he had a weapon, I was afraid when he reached for his liscense when I told him too" or when someone in police custody "has an accident". Ultimately with the media, the far right puts their spin on it while never looking at the substance material that the left has due to fear of the rise of public critical analysis of the procedures and judgement directly from the public for how the country has been ran.

In a cop's mind everything is worse than it actually is. One call becomes many calls. A cell phone is a weapon. Asserting your rights is being combative. Raising your voice is disturbing the peace. If a cop hurts his hand while punching you in the head, you resisted arrest and assaulted him.
They are trained to do this in order to escalate situations into an arrest. De-escalation training is clearly a myth. If cops actually learned the law and de-escalation, they wouldn't be the dregs of humanity that so many people both fear and hate.
