IN SHORT! For POC, ONLY use at night 1-2x a week! Should NOT be used as a daily toner and NEVER in the morning! Lastly, find a good sunscreen for your skin type :)

Hi are we referring to a pure glycolic acid from OTC here or any product ie cleansers that contain Glycolic acid??
Im brown skinned. My derma recently gave me a foaming cleanser and toner with glycolic acid and she said to use it AM and PM. She nows i have dark brown skin and a lot of sun damage on my face, i think thats exectly why she gave me those to make it whitter.

As a derm with fitzpatrick phototype IV, (i myself using chemical peels regularly) i would advise patients with darker skin to look for other dermatologists who specialize in brown skin or maybe even of brown skin themselves.
You'll never get anywhere with derms that are scared or inexperienced with treating persons of color.
The standards of many books and references in dermatology is from the point of view of mainly white skin.

People jumped into critizing her for that. She always wants to impart the kind of knowledge that would help people with skin of color. I don't know who were asking Dr Dray to clarify this but I have a feeling they are Dr. Vanitta's viewers. Yes, my skin started to appear smoother and even and my breakouts almost completely stopped. BUT after about 6 8weeks, one side of my face started to go numb and got super sensitive. Every time I would touch my nose the nerves around my eyes would react and every time I touched my brow bone the nerves in my cheeks would react. Honestly, prior to doing research as to what it could be that was causing it, I thought I was having a stroke as I know losing sensitivity in one side of the face can be a sign of a stroke. Please be careful and follow what this woman advises regarding using it once to twice a week only. These acids are still acid at the end of the day and can harm us if used incorrectly.

I had to be consistent for months using tretinoin combined with Hydroquinone to reverse the hyperpigmentation and my face is perfectly fine now. No texture issues, removal of post acne scars. I've learned simplicity is best. I only use tretinoin 0.05% for antiaging, acne issues, and exfoliation. No chemical or physical exfoliation. This is really cool and thanks so much for talking about this topic I’ve been wondering about it for awhile. Do you think for another video can you do it on Oia patches?

They both say the same thing- for those with deeper skin tones to be extra cautious w/ glycolic and go for mandelic or lactic instead.

Validation for dr v's stance on glycolic acid. Dr V is very conservative about burns from irritation and doesn't deserve to be dragged for warning caution about it. Obviously some people pigment more than others and its safe advice. Ultimately, knowing our skin will determine whats appropriate for ourselves.

@manasvini sridharan It is not a contest. People are free to choose what advice they want or go to a professional who actually sees your skin. Besides Dr. V never said not to use it, she said there were others that may be better, to use a lower concentration and to be safe, Also every skin is different and to consult a professional. I seem to have heard some of the same caution here.

They both are saying the same. We people with deeper skin tone should be careful using glycolic acid.
I like and follow both of them.

I subscribe to both. I’ve stopped using any exfoliating acids. Double cleansing in the evening is good enough for me.

I was at a large summer outdoor music event when I noticed the lady seated in front of me was getting sunburnt. She was a black person so I guess maybe she thought she would not burn. I rubbed some of my sunscreen on her shoulders and back, and this was a learning experience for both of us. I had never paid attention to the fact that black people definitely can get sunburnt just like me, and I am very fair white.

I don't know if this was a sign from some higher power, but my Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner is arriving in the mail today, and I was checking up on the order right when you uploaded - this was such a great and informal video to have before I start trying it out! Definitely going to be cautious and diligent!

If it doesn't work for your face, consider using it on your bikini line and arm pits.....elbows, feet.

It caused a burn on my cheeks.....try lactic acid from the ordinary. And the burn occurred after using the first bottle already.I went to bed and had hyperpigmentation the next Morning.
