Its the Fines, fees, and all that from the towing and impound that will be the real punishment. Holding the vehicles until adjudication is smart by the Sheriff. He knows the charges will be weak misdemeanors, but thousands each for tow and impound.

This happened back in the 90's at the Toyota plant in Cambridge, the road behind it was fully lit up and they use to have big street races there, until the cops showed up one night, blocked both ends of the road and busted *everyone* inside.

Well said seagrave! My wife and I had our Christmas Eve and Christmas Night ruined by the scum in Costa Mesa at an AirBnB we were renting. The noise went on until past midnight. It wasn't just the cars. We had to listen to loud firecrackers going off as well.
When I used to participate in sideshows 20 years ago, it would be at 2am in industrial areas or parking lots. Now people are blocking off intersections in residential areas in broad light.

It would be hilarious if the sheriff was the one who organized the race as a sting to bait them all into one convenient location for the bust. Set up the cameras ahead of time to collect mountains of evidence, coordinate the tow trucks, etc etc. Now THAT would be some solid police work.

by the time the case settles, those 100 dollar a day storage fees will be 7-9 thousand so what the sheriff is saying in a indrect manner is that they will not be getting back the cars. they will now have to catch the bus and lose the cars , still have to pay the bank note, get their credit ruined etc
@alexblais8076 8bsee no personal feelings being used here. The cars were used to commit a crime. Yes street racing and street takeovers are a crime. Therefore the cars can be held as evidence until each case is settled in court. As in others states each vehicle will be inspected for road worthiness for safety and compliance to state law. Any car that is deemed unsafe or overly modified may unfortunately be crushed. I believe places in Tennessee have the same leeway. As a long time racing fan and participant this behavior must be stopped.

When I used to participate in sideshows 20 years ago, it would be at 2am in industrial areas or parking lots. Now people are blocking off intersections in residential areas in broad light.

by the time the case settles, those 100 dollar a day storage fees will be 7-9 thousand so what the sheriff is saying in a indrect manner is that they will not be getting back the cars. they will now have to catch the bus and lose the cars , still have to pay the bank note, get their credit ruined etc
@alexblais8076 8bsee no personal feelings being used here. The cars were used to commit a crime. Yes street racing and street takeovers are a crime. Therefore the cars can be held as evidence until each case is settled in court. As in others states each vehicle will be inspected for road worthiness for safety and compliance to state law. Any car that is deemed unsafe or overly modified may unfortunately be crushed. I believe places in Tennessee have the same leeway. As a long time racing fan and participant this behavior must be stopped.
