He is one of many who continually fight to remain as we are, along with many other corporations of different industries.
Imagine going into surgery and having to say "hey, if this goes over 2 hours, wake me up because my insurance doesn't cover past that. I can't afford a bill. Just finish while I'm awake"
My sister is a surgical nurse. Her and the surgeon and surgical team were appalled. You can't stop mid-surgery, you just can't. The doctors, nurses, and medical staff have to waste so much time fighting for their patients to get the care they need. They just want to treat their patients. They too are disgusted with the health insurance companies and drug companies standing in the way of treating their patients. But AI programs or a supposed doctor who works for the insurance company find ways to deny.
That's exactly why it's so insidious, because they know they're gonna get paid. So many people find out the limits of their coverage after the coverage only goes so far... Can you can't simply just wake a person up and tell them times up. They've put people in a situation where they can't just opt out, or maybe would have opted out if they knew the cost. Instead, they set it up so that you're halfway into things, and have no choice to pay to complete the other half. It should not be understated how utterly inhumane some of these policy makers must be, to come up with the stuff that they do.
@Forev3rYoung. You really said it!!! I feel like that was literally me. Just waking up from major surgery with the doc there telling me I have to leave the next day and he's retiring and how am I? loved the set!! from my perspective in a society where gen z and younger (my and my siblings generation) we had to grapple with the fact that our leaders didn't care if any of us died bc of school shootings. so it's very hard for us to sympathize with ceos who have the power to make change happen but instead people die by their hand. we ALL know someone who is suffering simply bc they don't have insurance. we ALL know someone who are suffering even WITH insurance. i don't have any sympathy for a monster like that honestly. things cost so much money no more than ever in American history and no one seems to care abt the people, only how they can exploit us more. at some point, all we'll have left is our own resentment and anger. so i kinda hope the ceos fear for their lives, only so they understand the mortality we grapple with every day, and how lack of money could change our relationship with that mortality drastically.
Oh kiddo, you and your siblings and friends deserve so much better than you were given. I know this is no more than cold comfort right now, but some of the people who are old enough to be your parents want you to be safe and happy and free. The least that you deserve is to be safe in the world you grow up in.
I got let go from working for insurance but I'm glad because i still have my soul.😅 I once had to let a person know that their $100,000 surgery was not covered. My supervisor talked to me because I didn't ask if that customer was satisfied with the service he got today.🙄 who would be happy that they were now in debt ?!
Thanks Josh you have reminded me that being 66 is a blessing and a curse because I live in the real world. The same people cheering that guy on are the ones who have lost someone to COVID Millions of people have empty chairs at the dinner table.
It's the *present* of journalism. I've learned more about the news--especially Trump's behavior--through comedy than from the articles in any news feed. Yeah, I've had to dig a little to see if things really happened, but that shit's rarely on my front pages, and the algorithm should know better.
Lol watching the corporate press trying so fruitlessly to get a bad pic of Luigi has been so absurd I thought I might be going insane so glad to hear someone else say it… absolutely love this whole set thanks josh❤
I don’t condone murder. But I did hear a European say recently why don’t Americans protest more? The way the CEOs are now in fear and the amount of conversations we’ve had about how bad health insurance is, We really need to be protesting more. Protesting gets things done. Look at the civil rights movement. Women’s suffrage movement There have been a lot of big movements that have gotten things done. The Black Lives Matter protest, Got things done. Did these things fix everything no. But there was movement forward. Why do you think the powers that be hate protesting so much. Demonizing protesting. Because it’s effective. It gets people talking. Just like this is. Being keyboard. Warriors is not good enough. We have to be out in numbers frequently. Sustained protest. Edit to add I know we’re busy. Kids jobs. Etc. And our companies work us to death so we don’t have any free time to do anything. Americans are a little complacent as a whole.
Exactly what we are (Europeans) can’t understand. If your government screws you, best you can do as a nation is to stand up for yourself. Because as a history shows - if you don’t do it, then it’s a slippery slope to dictatorship. Genuinely wish American people all the best and have hope that you are able to protect your rights and freedom.
Americans protest CONSTANTLY. I see it like all year round. But our protests are all small and splintered, about different issues, and 90% peaceful. Imo, thats the reason nothing changes. You brought up the Civil Rights movement of the 60's and BLM. One of these lasted years, was oftentimes directly antagonistic to the police and politicians, was organized beautifully and strictly, and actually changed things. The other one lasted a year at its peak before dying down almost completely, and lead directly to increased funding of police, the exact opposite of what was fought for. There's a lesson in that but I genuinely believe its too late for most people to learn it.
When Josh said the military are there to help the people in power that really resonated with me especially after what happened in South Korea. If the people there hadn't stood up for themselves who knows what could have happened
oh fuck yeah, never caught a live before! I’m a new fan, shit’s been rough lately but I’ve been binging his content and the humor has been helping me tremendously
I hope things get better for you as soon as humanly possible. If you need someone to talk to, I know we don’t know each other, but I’d be there for you. I do hope that you already have a good support system, though! Comedy in any form is always so incredibly helpful to me during rough patches. 💙💙💙
every time I'm in a funk I just watch a bunch of Josh's videos. just start from his oldest one and go forward, you will not be let down and they just get better and better. he's fantastic every time! I hope you feel better soon and things look up for you! ❤️
I would’ve clapped much louder had I been present when Josh said that Brian Thompson wasn’t innocent either!!! Well said. Great breakdown. Thank you for speaking on it and really laying out why people are not sorry for his death 🙌
I said it earlier today. We should protest also at every court date that Luigi Mangione has. Unfortunately I live in California and Im paycheck to paycheck so I can't be there. Anyone who lives in Pennsylvania should. Then if they send him to New York the people there should.
You can organize a demonstration in California, too! I think if there were events across the nation protesting about healthcare it would get more attention!
Join the protests in San Fran or LA… or organize one like me :) They say one vote doesn’t matter. That one voice doesn’t matter. It’s up to us to prove them wrong ❤
Another great show! Josh does a great job of bring humanity back into a situation. The levity is nice, but he's got the type of perspective that helps talk people back down to being amenable toward actionable progress rather than reactional gut decisions and I appriciate that most about him.😊
United Healthcare's denial rate increased 3 times soon after Thompson became CEO and has the highest denial rate in the country. While Thompson made $10 million a year. Ain't nothin' innocent about that. He wasn't just one of the dudes, but probably the worst dude.
The shame of it all, is that it is not that they don't get paid enough, already, but now CEOs will want MORE money for danger pay, as well as to pay for a security entourage... And the boost to their overinflated egos, YIKES!
Why so little empathy for United Healthcare's CEO? Well, here's a couple statistics from 2022: 1 - 17% of adults with health care debt declared bankruptcy or lost their home because of it. 2 - 66.5% of bankruptcies are caused directly by medical expenses, making it the leading cause for bankruptcy. Honestly, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Kudos to Josh for taking a very serious subject and getting both laughs and serious insight out of it.
Josh is such a compelling storyteller. His thoughts are so well put, his narrative structure flows so smoothly, and he connects what's in the news with personal experience we can all relate to.
Josh, yes, something happened. He had a failed spinal surgery, and was in chronic, intractable pain. That, over a lengthy period, did effect his mental state. And you can see why he might target the system which took his quality of life.
So thankful for the Canadian healthcare system. It might such at times, but at least we don’t have to worry about a massive bill when we leave the hospital, or worrying about pre-existing conditions to get heath care.
Ima big fan of Jon Stewart for many years, decades really, and felt there was a lot that I couldn't have gotten thru without him expressing my thoughts yet adding all the humor and irony. This set- 'session' here has totally convinced me Josh is THE comedian-philosopher we all need to face and survive these highly challenging times. Bless his sweet soul, and amazing mind. ❤❤
Josh, Please throw your hat in if/when John Oliver retires from Last Week Tonight. You have a grace to the way you discuss such serious topics, and your voice could be well amplified with that additional platform
Josh, please, whatever else happens I need you to keep the comedy going over these next few years. You’re a brilliant beacon of sanity in a very insane time. You genuinely make this ish easier to deal with.
Josh, this show is absolutely incredible. I've become a big fan of yours but this really takes you to the next level. You are AMAZING!!! Thank you for bringing us comedy but also talking about the things that really matter.
I have SO MUCH RESPECT for you Josh. The fact that your speaking truth to power. You have ALOT of fans, ALOT of eyes watching you & ears listening to what you have to say. So many don't use their platforms or voices for good but YOU have. I myself have MANY health problems (for YEARS) & no health ins for specialists & treatments needed for quite a while. I can only hope & pray maybe soon change will come so no one else has to suffer or go thru what i have for so long. Health insurance companies are the absolute worse in this Country. We don't have healthcare, we have SICKcare. They treat symptoms instead of preventative care so healthy ppl STAY healthy. Not need a Dr once were already sick. We can only hope that day will come soon. Im a huge fan & watch everything you do. I wish you much love & light. Never stop being who you are, never compromise yourself in the industry because who you are is what makes you special & stand out above the rest. Much love🫶🏽💜🥰🙏🏽🫡✌🏾
I don't support the murder. That being said, the failure of fellow healthcare CEOs and the mainstream media to recognize the potential reason someone might target such a man tells you everything about their privilege. Being that out of touch is a danger to all of us.

I once had to let a person know that their $100,000 surgery was not covered. My supervisor talked to me because I didn't ask if that customer was satisfied with the service he got today.🙄 who would be happy that they were now in debt ?!
Why wouldn't the person be told that they weren't covering the surgery before the surgery? 🤷
Thanks Josh you have reminded me that being 66 is a blessing and a curse because I live in the real world. The same people cheering that guy on are the ones who have lost someone to COVID Millions of people have empty chairs at the dinner table.
This is the future of journalism
Haha, yes! I don't watch the news often enough to know what's happening and Josh keeps me current
Well, I wasn't expecting tears but, when you said "So was Marty" I lost it for a min. I couldn't agree more! ❤
As someone who works at one of the listed companies, the week has been fun, lols.
What's the overall mood if you could explain it?
Exactly. For possibly the first time, they saw that how we see them? Is how they see us.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think part of it is that we’re so spread out.
Yeah, my Euro colleagues constantly ask me this type of question. All I really say is," Give it a sec...it'll be something if history indeed rhymes. "
Saying, no PREACHING exactly THAT for the past 28 yrs @GeorgiaLee01!! 👏 💯%
When Josh said the military are there to help the people in power that really resonated with me especially after what happened in South Korea. If the people there hadn't stood up for themselves who knows what could have happened
THE AD HASN'T EVEN FINISHED AND I'VE ALREADY LIKED AND ADDED THIS TO A PERSONAL PLAYLIST.
This is gunna be a good one 🤣🤣🤣
Josh reminds me of that computer nerd in high school that everyone loves
And then realize they'll be the boss one day.
Happy Joshday Friends!!
Tuesday will forevermore be Joshday in my world! ❤
Thank you, friend!
Josh day is spot on lol!
Josh is the best 👌
Heyaaaaaaa
oh fuck yeah, never caught a live before!
I love the imagery of the infinitely reflected broken mirror. It's an incredibly evocative way to describe the breakdown of the social contract.
I would’ve clapped much louder had I been present when Josh said that Brian Thompson wasn’t innocent either!!! Well said. Great breakdown. Thank you for speaking on it and really laying out why people are not sorry for his death 🙌
I was at this show! Hilarious! Love you Josh! The "stick is $20 though". Underrated and so true
Damn Brian, you’re the coldest out here." Oof. Shows like Billions glam it up, but you’re bringing The Wire vibes, and I’m so here for it!
You spoofin.
"I've never had to administer anesthesia to myself. That's just heroin." Hahahaha I love Josh
@@mjoan3228I’m in the SD area. Is there info somewhere I can look up?
Another great show! Josh does a great job of bring humanity back into a situation. The levity is nice, but he's got the type of perspective that helps talk people back down to being amenable toward actionable progress rather than reactional gut decisions and I appriciate that most about him.😊
United Healthcare's denial rate increased 3 times soon after Thompson became CEO and has the highest denial rate in the country. While Thompson made $10 million a year. Ain't nothin' innocent about that. He wasn't just one of the dudes, but probably the worst dude.
The weird thing is if what I saw is right, he wasn't paid as much as other ceo's insurance companies. Most of them average 20 million a year.
This guy Josh, I love the dude. He's got heart, and his momma had to have been a champ, cause he's a good guy.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 best analysis of this debacle 💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐 give this man his flowers!!!!
The shame of it all, is that it is not that they don't get paid enough, already, but now CEOs will want MORE money for danger pay, as well as to pay for a security entourage... And the boost to their overinflated egos, YIKES!
I've been waiting for days that feel like weeks for your take on this 😂.
Your take is the only take I wanna hear on this. 🔥
@MKayyyy177 WTH, I waited til 8 pm and you saw this 4 hrs ago? 😢
@@dianasantos2162 Theres a premium members only feature which gives early access I believe
30:13 legit tears. I haven’t been able to articulate this properly without sounding heartless. Thank you.
Why so little empathy for United Healthcare's CEO? Well, here's a couple statistics from 2022:
1 - 17% of adults with health care debt declared bankruptcy or lost their home because of it.
2 - 66.5% of bankruptcies are caused directly by medical expenses, making it the leading cause for bankruptcy.
Honestly, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Kudos to Josh for taking a very serious subject and getting both laughs and serious insight out of it.
I work in long term care. SHOCKED it didn't happen sooner.
Josh you are SO good at what you do! Thank you for your insight and humor, you have wisdom beyond your years and I cant get enough!
This is a legendary set, like a celebration for 1M subscribers but for us.
So thankful for the Canadian healthcare system. It might such at times, but at least we don’t have to worry about a massive bill when we leave the hospital, or worrying about pre-existing conditions to get heath care.
$45 CAD for the ambulance, which is waved, if You cannot afford it. Thank You, Canadian Healthcare system.
One of my favorite sets yet! Josh just keeps getting better!
This set was everything I imagined. Thank you for speaking so much truth with humor, insight, and candor, Josh. ❤
We are all so happy to be here.
Congratz on the 1mil subscribers🎉🎉🎉
Man Josh is WORKING. A solid hour on a current topic this fast is crazy
Brilliant! Simply a Brilliant Show! THANK you!
Yeah!!! It's almost the Josh Johnson hour. 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️
GENIUS. Paul Mooney is laughing his butt off right now and so proud of you. JOSH KILT IT. I AM DECEASED.
I was at this show! Got me a signed shirt, awesome show. Even the two people before him killed it!
Josh, Please throw your hat in if/when John Oliver retires from Last Week Tonight. You have a grace to the way you discuss such serious topics, and your voice could be well amplified with that additional platform
I was waiting 10 years for his take on this😅
I guess he actually needs time to work out the jokes or something
😮😢😂 Sad but true
Omg I was refreshing your page for days waiting for you to talk about this. We needed the Josh Johnson breakdown ❤🎉😂
Josh, please, whatever else happens I need you to keep the comedy going over these next few years. You’re a brilliant beacon of sanity in a very insane time. You genuinely make this ish easier to deal with.
Josh, you are changing the history and direction of comedy.
Been waiting to hear Josh’s thoughts & insights about this
One of the most well-said and nuanced takes I've heard from anyone. I want the momentum from this to continue and bring more change
This is the one we've been waiting for ! See you tomorrow night in Tampa !
Preach Josh. Your insights are clear concise consciences and comedic. Love you
Josh, this show is absolutely incredible. I've become a big fan of yours but this really takes you to the next level. You are AMAZING!!! Thank you for bringing us comedy but also talking about the things that really matter.
I’ve been saying the same thing everywhere I can. Wasn’t sure anyone felt the same. Thanks for using your voice.
The instant the shooting happened I immediately thought "I cant wait for Josh Johnson's take on this!
I don't support the murder. That being said, the failure of fellow healthcare CEOs and the mainstream media to recognize the potential reason someone might target such a man tells you everything about their privilege. Being that out of touch is a danger to all of us.
