I did this job yesterday not gonna lie it took me about 3 hours lol. Kinda sucked getting the valve body back in but I did wanna change all the seals, tranny pan gasket, tranny filter and the actual sleeve the shift selector rod is cake to change. The sleeve was where I struggled a little it is notched at an angle at the bottom so when you change the sleeve make sure you put it back how it was or you’ll bend pins in the valve body but putting it back in by yourself while being on your back and the car on jack stands kinda sucked. The 6 valve body screws are a e12 torx socket and you need a regular 10mm and 8mm as well. The torque specs for the pan are 10nm I think I did 10.1. I kinda ball parked it on the valve body and went slightly tighter then hand tight and went over them a couple times. All in all this video helped out tremendously they told my cousin to scrap her car and that it would cost $5k to fix. So $240 in parts including 2 gallons of dexron 6 atf. I recommend buying the parts of FCP EURO
Hey man, thanks a lot for this video. Wife's 2007 BMW E90 328xi would not go in reverse and just as you showed, it was the shift selector rod. The rod was $25 from the dealer and what cost the most was the transmission fluid. The only thing that I encountered that varied from your video was that the fill hole was a pain in the butt to get open as it required a 17mm socket, not the allen bit that you (and everyone else mentions). I had to buy an mini 3/8" socket wrench and that barely fit. Had to use PVC pipe as a breaker bar to get that thing open. I did appreciate the good look and advice in showing us that you did not have to take out the valve body (other videos show that you have to disconnect it) to take out the selector rod. And yes, refilling the oil is a pain in the butt, I got it almost level, but not perfect... oh well lol!! Overall, thanks for the video bro!!
Awesome! I'm glad you found this video before you went to the stealership! That's really cheap man. The tranny fluid isn't cheap no. Oh wow! I wonder why they gave you a different fill plug. That's annoying. Good thing you were able to get it out lol sounds like stress. Yeah I think they say you have to remove the valve body but you can fiddle it in and out with some patience lol. Lol as long as you had it running while you filled it. Glad it was of use!
Great video 👍 problem with the automatic transmission transmission Faulty drive moderately possible to continue journey Reduced acceleration Have checked by near bmw service Then a message appeared on the crash detector Code 0056c5 EGS: Shift valve B: stuck in off position Code 0056BF Clutch gears 12 3 and 4: neutral test my BMW 320 I 2008 Transmission GM Number GA6L-45R chassis Number D A B V G 99050V C81681 Thanks
Very helpful video, thanks! I am having a problem after doing this on my 08 328xi. Got it all buttoned back up, put ~3 quarts in it, went to start it to put the rest in; and it wouldn't start. Acted like it was in a different gear other than park. Does the electronic shift selector/slider thingie need to be in a specific spot or something? I am pretty sure that I didn't mess with anything else under there... I'm nervous to put it back together again and have to rinse & repeat a 3rd time... so I am hoping for someone to help me with an "AH HA" moment! Thanks!
I have tried to change that and I was successful but it still would not going to reverse. The car reads that it's in reverse but it doesn't actually back up. My question is does the fluid have to be all the way topped off for it to actually going to reverse after I replaced it with the new part?
I have a 6L45R transmission in a 2010 E90. My problem is it jerks from 2nd to 3rd gear. Other than that, it's normal to go down from 3 to 2. No fault code The oil is good and not lacking. Can you recommend me?
Boss how you find diagram processing for that.. here is my problem i buy a x3 some one change the same part. But when you go drive it, after 10 mph the car pull the gear to neutro. I think they install somethink not right
Great vid man! Did she feel the reverse jump a bit when pushing up a hill or going to fast in reverse ? Mines goes in reverse but up hills or if a push to hard it jumps ? Thanks for the vid!! I have bmw x3 05 btw your girlfriend very luck to have you!
Kevin Levano yeah you do. Its semi stressful. Car has to be fully flat and level while being jacked up so you can get underneath and fill it. Once its fully level, you have to run the car till it gets warm and cycle the gears while you add fluid. Best to do with two people. You add fluid using a hand pump from underneath the car until you start to see it coming out the fill hole.
I’m having the same issue. I followed your steps but broken gear selector not coming out even pulling it using my finger or pliers seems like something is holding it. I have e90. My gear is in park. Do I need to do anything to have gear selector comes out? Thanks
JACK! I am in the same boat RIGHT NOW! Please tell me you figured it out?? And if so, what you did?? My key won't come out of ignition and car won't start... like when you shut your car off in D and the key won't come out.
You are the man! This looks like a hassle, but a nice reveal of what a shop would charge thousands for! High resolution video, too, good job.
Thanks man!!
Excellent video and very clever letting the valve body sag and just slide the rod into place. You saved me a lot of time and headache!
I just did one today. The rod was in tact so I replaced the entire valve body. Its perfect now.
Your video was SO HELPFUL, fixed the problem by following your steps. THANK YOU!!!

awesome! sounds like you had a fun time under there lol. glad it all worked out though!
Lifesaver! Thanks for the great video, just dropping that assembly some worked great!
Thanks for making this video, praying this solves my issue as well!
Was that your problem?
@@markd3z yes it was!
Friggin' excellent approach, totally helpful to getting this done !
Thank you so much! Your video saved me $3500 !!
You’re awesome dude the best master mechanic
Just had that problem 30 mins ago, thanks for the video bro 🙏🏽
Hey man quick question did it not reverse at first and later on it didnt work in drive either ?
@@joshualeyva9245 thats how transmissions usually go reverse first then other gears follow
This is the way people should make these videos. Thank you.
Excellent video, VERY well done!

Thanks bro I have a galant that’s not going into reverse I guess I’ll have a look before purchasing a new tranny
Thanks very good explanation!!
Terrific video!
Nice video man. Thanks. Question: How much fluid did you end up using to refill?
thank you for this vid. bro. its really helpful.
Glad it helped
Bro thx man, thx for explaining the problem with my car I was worried like hell,
Thanks for the video man really informative! Do you know if it's necessary to remove the mechatronic sleeve in order to drop the valve body?
Hey man great video. Do you know what the torque is for the e12 bolts when tightening them back up?
This amazing job but how you did disconnected the broken part ??
brilliant work.!
thanks
Thanks!!
I really hope my mechanic knows this. Because my car drove perfectly fine and I get home and tried to reverse and all it did was rev.
Same! Now I’m pissed!

does this go for the e46 as well ??
Boss how you find diagram processing for that.. here is my problem i buy a x3 some one change the same part. But when you go drive it, after 10 mph the car pull the gear to neutro.
I think they install somethink not right
It should not be going into neutral. The selector Rod may have been put in incorrectly, or the transmission is low on fluid
Good job bro
I’m stuck with my transmission. I’d like to know witch one is the B solenoid on this GM transmission.
Quick question, doni need to temove the valve body to replace the neutral safety switch?
Was the tire socket a flat e12?
Chris Lamego not sure about which socket you're referring to
Great vid man! Did she feel the reverse jump a bit when pushing up a hill or going to fast in reverse ? Mines goes in reverse but up hills or if a push to hard it jumps ? Thanks for the vid!! I have bmw x3 05 btw your girlfriend very luck to have you!
Did u fix it ? And how ? I have similar prob
No this happens to pre lci e90s too, I just ordered the part.
What atf did you use ? And did you unplug your battery before hand
Brah.......where do I find that part on a 2008 infiniti m35x
What kind of transmission is this?
Thanks bro
What brand of fluid did u use? TIA
How did you remove yours? Mine feels like its stuck its half way out but that's it
Do you have to add trans fluid after putting the pan back ? If so how do you do it ?
Kevin Levano yeah you do. Its semi stressful. Car has to be fully flat and level while being jacked up so you can get underneath and fill it. What size is the e sockets?
I can't remember I think they were e12?
Thank you
I followed all the instructions and changed the broken part but the car wouldn't start now. Any recommendations?
Did you ever figure this out? Was the new gear selector rod not in the right position?
Are the bolts in the mechatronic unit re-usable?
yes they are
I have this problem right now.
I’m having the same issue. I followed your steps but broken gear selector not coming out even pulling it using my finger or pliers seems like something is holding it. I have e90. My gear is in park. Do I need to do anything to have gear selector comes out? Thanks
Erec how did you get it out I’m stuck
How about filling the fluid video
Help !! I’m currently doing it , I get the broken rod half way down ! But it’s stuck. Idk what to do to get it out
Kevin did you figure this out I’m stuck
Dude , I did this and now my car believes it’s not in park , any advice ?!?? 😬
JACK! I am in the same boat RIGHT NOW! Please tell me you figured it out?? And if so, what you did?? My key won't come out of ignition and car won't start... like when you shut your car off in D and the key won't come out.
Also how did you refill the tranny fluid? Thx!
You refill the fluid while the car is jacked up and perfectly level and running
I'm Doing SAME thing ON MY BMW Step by step Thank you for Great Video You Save ME $$ thanks Brother 👍
