    I had sent my valve body out at a cost of 600 for rebuild. I wish I had seen this video before I sent it out. Thanks for sharing!

      Glad it helped. Wish you could have saved that money. What was the problem you were having. Would hate for you to be taken advantage of if all they replaced was the selector rod. Of course they might do some other checks. Nonetheless what else did they do?

    Going to have to pull my pan back off because I think this is where I screwed up when I put it back together I made sure it was in the groove but I didn't know it went in that little tab on the side of the valve body. Thanks for the vid

      @FixCarYourself yes eventually I did.
      I pulled the pan back off and lowered the valve body to inspect everything. Oddly, it was put together right, but I was having a shifting issue and slipping.
      I had installed a new dipstick for trans and it had a cold mark and a hot mark to check the fluid level.. it turned out it was low because the pan was leaking.
      (Never trust impact driver) I torqued the valve body and pan to specs, and we've been good ever since.
      Again great video thank you

      Glad this helped. I made a video of this because I knew this happened to others, and I didn't want others to panic. Its quite easy to fix once you get a replacement rod.

    After changing conductor plate I made the mistake you mentioned with tab above the guide instead of below. After reassembly and attempts to drive I now have a mess with transmission in neutral, selector at selector rod in 5th and ecm thinking it's in park. All this causing starter interlock to deplo y due to errors and won't start! I can fix selector spool but not sure how to place spool and detent to match shifter. Help!! Also, selector rod has slight bind at one point when moving thru positions, is this normal or another problem to fix..new selector rod?

    thank you, it is really a wonderful video. you showed every details about the point you wored on. but I still got another question. I recently saw a leakage from the Shift Lever Shaft seal, (mopar number 5134933AA). but for this transmission, we can not replace it from outside, the only possiblitiy is open the pan and replace it. and I see from you video, by removing the spring detent on the valve body. we can clearly see the Gearshift Detent (Mopar number, 52108349AA) and Shift Lever Shaft. and I see only one screw like fixing the gearshift detent on the shift lever shaft (Mopar number 52108432AC). My question is: is that true the only screw fix it? and if a disassemble that screw, the gearshift detent can be removed? and then, teh shift lever shaft can be also removed easily? and finally replace the seal? Thank you so much. by the way, it is on a 2011 Jeep Grand cherokee, 5 speed automatic

      What screw are you referring to. A what part of the video.

      @@FixCarYourself it's the T type screw on the gearshift detent (or selector), which fix the detent to the shift lever shaft then can be rotated by the shaft. I mean, when release the screw, the shift lever shaft can be take out easilly?

    • @haorangeng4230
      @haorangeng4230 Рік тому

      @@FixCarYourself in your video, at 2:04, you can see the only T type screw. that is it.

      I'm not sure if the gear can come out with ease...may have to completely remove the transmission housing to do so (but not completely sure). Also, its possible the leak is really in the valve body, and you may want to check on or replace that if possible. The valve body can be pricey.

      Also remember to use a code scanner to narrow down your problem.

    Changed my VB and now the cars stuck in P it shows the gears changing on that dash but won’t budge did yours do that too ???

    • @FixCarYourself
      @FixCarYourself  6 місяців тому

      Yes I think so. So if it shows your in drive, and the car doesn't move as if it was in park, then the selector rod may be bad or not lined up correctly.

    I don't have a selector problem, but there is a shifting problem. Avenger 3.6 Pentastar; after cold start reverse locks up and sudden deceleration causes downshift to drop the gear. Consistent issue from 3rd or 2nd into 1st. Stall, and engine stop or stuck in 1st gear. Thoughts?

    • @FixCarYourself
      @FixCarYourself  Рік тому

      Lot of possibilities here:
      1) See if you have any trouble shooting codes with a code reader. That should narrow down the problem.
      2) Test the transmission oil level (might have to buy a special dipstick measurement tool which is less than $20 unless it is equipped with one) Check out this video here to give you a good idea: ua-cam.com/video/LLBqOUL8oCU/v-deo.html
      3) Might need to do a Transmission oil change (research this more because it might be bad doing that if car has lots of miles on it)
      4) Could be something with the shift linkage under the gear shifter.
      Hopefully this gives you some ideas where to start.

      Some people also try a "Transmission repair Oil Fix" which is essentially adding trans lube to the transmission.

    • @roguelightbearer
      @roguelightbearer Рік тому +1

      @@FixCarYourself Well some of those were tried already. There are no trouble codes coming from the PCM, it started after a fluid exchange and filter change, and it has been roughly 2k miles since the service (est. 8 months time). It is possible that the amount of fluid placed in the transmission was incorrect so the last two suggestions I should get on top of. Thanks!
