What recipe would you use to make a fluffy butter? I have a product made with just 2 butters and love it, but want to try ‘fluffy’ to compare the differences on the skin. Excellent video!! Thank you for sharing!
Hey there! I don’t quite have a recipe for a super fluffy butter, but I think in general if you want something fluffier you can replace more of your butters with a lighter oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, or rice bran oil :) I always try very small batches with even amounts like 2oz Shea 2 oz jojoba 2 oz rice bran or something like that. They you can adjust depending on the consistency you get. For fluffier, add more lighter oils, for dense, add more hard butters 💕 I hope that helps!

Thank you so much for this video and recipe! I'm pretty new at this and I was wondering if it would be okay to use essential oil into this mixture instead of using fragrance?
Hey there, you are so welcome! And yes you can definitely use essential oil! However, make sure that you follow the safety guidelines for the amount to use in your batch. Some essential oils are more likely to cause skin sensitivity as well such as peppermint or orange (orange can cause skin sensitivity to sunlight). I would just do a bit of research and go from there. You can always start with a teaspoon of essential oil in this recipe and work your way up if it’s safe to do so. Good luck! 😊💕
Did you use fractionated or regular coconut oil? Also, on arrowroot powder, after I add it in my butter still feels greasy. Is it regular arrowroot powder like you'd find at a health food store or is there another kind? What do you use?
Hi there, I do not use fractionated. Only the coconut oil that is solid at room temp :) For the arrowroot powder, it can still feel a tad greasy but that’s because it’s packed with oils and butters, but it does soak in after a few minutes. It’s important to only add a tiny bit to the skin at first since too much can make it to where it doesn’t soak in as well and will cause your skin to feel greasy for a long time. You can try to add more arrowroot flour but not too much as it can cause a slightly grainy effect if too much is used. I use regular arrowroot yes, the kind you find at health food stores :) I hope that helps a bit! Body butter is different from regular lotions in that body butters are not made with water so they can take longer to soak in. 😁
Hello. I really enjoyed your video. I was thinking about starting my own shea body butter business but I'm paranoid about individuals trying to sue if they get a rash or something of that nature. This world seems to be more "sue" crazy than ever. Do you know a way for me to have a backup plan just in case this happens to me? Thank you again for the video.
As far as back-up plan goes, there’s only one way to help a situation like that and having general liability or product liability insurance is the way to go. Unfortunately you cannot know for sure if someone will have a reaction. The best you can do is list every single ingredient on your label when selling or gifting this product. Ive never had someone develop a rash from this product, but it definitely can happen!
You are so welcome! I didn’t time my whipping but a good rule of thumb is that you want the butters to double in volume. Once you see it double in volume it’s important to not over whip as it can get agitated and flatten again. Whichever consistency you enjoy though, you can choose to stop whenever you think it looks and feels great :)
Hey Christine! You are so welcome! And yes, even though there is no water in this recipe and no preservative is needed, you can still add a preservative for added safety and longevity. I personally use Phenonip which is a natural preservative. I would say anywhere from .5% up to 1% preservative for the total batch weight if you choose to use Phenonip as well. :) I cannot speak on other preservatives since each has their own suggested use rate, but that’s what I do for Phenonip in my lotion and whipped soap bases. It is also lip safe! Thanks!
Hi, thank you for showing and explaining how to make this cream, it looks great and i love natural ingredients. is there a need to add beeswax to thicken the cream ? thank you
Hi there! The amount you use depends on how you like the final consistency and feel on your skin. I personally used about 2 tablespoons, but when making this, I recommend starting at one tablespoon and add more as you like! :)
I'm back for this video 💖🙌 I want to try this for Christmas.... PLEASE Respond 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 is it (immediately) after the oils/butter melted(hot) we should put in the refrigerator????
Most of the ingredients keep for at least one year. If you plan to keep them longer you could add a natural preservative, one that works well in oils. :) I’m happy you enjoyed this video!
Hello, love the video... just wondering the size of the containers used in your video and typically what would be a good price range if you were selling? I've watched a few body butter video that use this size but charge different. One stated it could be due to the Butters and oils used as well as where they may have gotten their supple from so I was curious.
Hey there, yes it really all depends on the cost of your ingredients and also how much you pay yourself per hour for your skills and your time to make the product. It also depends on where you live if you’re selling online it doesn’t matter as much but for shows and markets it can range since different cities and states will have varying price expectations for products. I live near downtown Portland so my prices are most likely a little higher than someone maybe further out in a rural area if that makes sense. Typically I charge about $5 or more per ounce - that’s after it’s whipped. :) My containers are glass and are 2 ounces. I found them on Amazon but I don’t see the same listing in stock right now :( You can find lots of containers like it on US Plastics and also Berlin Packaging site. :) I hope that helps!
@@rosebudsuds2971 Thanks so much for the information. It makes a lot of sense that the area you live in also determines the cost as well, I forgot to factor that detail in. Also thanks for the packaging sites and price tips.
I put it in the fridge immediately after melting to get it cooled enough to whip. However, I usually put it in the fridge and not the freezer as the freezer can cause it to harden quickly on just the sides of the container which can make it harder to whip. Best of luck!
Can i ask where you get shea from and diff oils i want try get the same and a set area to order from or purchased that works well in mixing thanks for help
Hi there, I really enjoy Bulk Apothecary and Wholesale supplies plus, but the place I get most of my oils from is actually just a local shop! Best of luck! 💕
Hi i was curious if u could substitute mango instead of coconut or does the mango have to replace the shea since its a butter..also whay about adding jojoba oil and advacodo oil or grapeseed oil i have these and want to try them but afraid of wasting if no one had tried them lol not seeing any videos with these in it actually onky a few but they used alot of coconut and it was pretty greasy i dont want itto be greasy its for mom in law and my mom lol we all know how our moms are lol just asking for a little advise or if u have used these in ur recipe or how do they do
Hey Melissa! Yes mango butter would be an excellent substitute for either the coconut oil or Shea butter. The finished product will be a little thicker and slightly less fluffy if you substitute the coconut oil with mango butter but I’ve done this and it is an amazing thick and luxurious body butter! Any oil can be substituted and made your own, but the oils that soak in the best are the lighter oils such as jojoba, sweet almond oil, and rice bran oil. Grapeseed oil is lighter too so you could start off with a very small batch to test and see how you like it. What makes body butters less greasy is the addition of the arrowroot powder. :)
Ya i had purchased some arrow root but if u dnt add the right amount it will become to think and will not be a whipped body butter i have already done this lol i believe i added to much arrow root b cuz it came out very nice i might add but thick not whipped at all i even re beat it ..it really isnt fluffy it feels super light and fluffy tho so i gave to my husband to use for a beard balm and he loves it lol lemon sugar it smells and feels amazing but not at all wht i wanted it to be tht was my first batch of trying to make whipped body butter. So now im a bit scared lol dnt wanna waste any im off work just had neck surgery last friday so money isnt coming in wkly like it was...so im trying to be careful and not be wasteful so when im doin trials just explore cut recipes in half. Or even less if i can is tht the best way to experiment lol Thank you for getting back to me i will definelty take ur advise and try. And go for it wht else i got to do just sit cant do alot of movement as long a si wear this neck brace i can do this body butter making i enjoy it its keeping me sane thts for sure lol again thank you have a great rest of ur day
If you follow my recipe exactly, it’s light and fluffy at the end. If you want it thicker you can use more butters and less light oils but I haven’t personally tested a thicker/dense recipe yet
Thank you Laura! Let’s see, I was able to fill up six 4 ounce containers with the recipe, but not all 4 ounce containers are created equal (which seems odd but it really does seem to depend on the supplier lol) so I’d say plan for at least five 4 ounce containers or 20 ounces by volume for this recipe. You may get more or less depending on how much you whip it :)
Do u have body butters i haven t seen on site only soaps and men butters. Shea butters and body butters isn't on your pages i see ..is it mainly soaps you do ?
If the solid coconut turn liquid from being warm in house can i still use it im mixture or it has b solidify again i did put im refrigerator then it was super hard when i used it ..jist want to kno if if it was solid but melted can i still add...also what is a good fragrance that last im the butter do the fragrance last well? Thanks
Yes you can still use it. Before you whip the oils you want them all to be melted together but when whipping they should be more solidified to get whipped correctly
Yep! As long as you are using twice as many oils/butters you are ok to double the fragrance. Just be sure to use a fragrance calculator if you are using essential oils rather than a fragrance oil do to how concentrated essential oils are. 💜
Hi there, I have not tried to replace the arrowroot with anything else so I cannot say for sure if that would work. You can always try making a tiny batch and testing that out! Let me know if it dorks out for you, I’m interested to hear about it! :)
Hi there! I would not recommend keeping it outside as it can melt at temperatures around 75-80 degrees and higher. By “time” do you mean how long it takes to make the recipe? Around an hour depending on how long you let it cool in the fridge. You can use an ounces to grams converter on Google to find out the amount of grams to use. Thanks!!
I personally do not use preservatives in this because there is no water content. However, for larger batches at a time you definitely could use a preservative, one that mixes well with oil based product. :)
hheeellppp , my body butters come out so greasy and melt easily , what is a key thing i should avoid and something you recommend other than arrowroot powder ?
Hey there, the only thing I have used is arrowroot powder so I unfortunately cannot speak to any other potential ingredients. I would say to use oils and butters that soak into the skin the quickest. That’s why I chose the recipe I did. Coconut oil can soak in more slowly so some people avoid that in recipes. Really it can be about the amount you put on your skin. Most body butters will have a greasy feeling for a few minutes but as long as you put on a very thin layer it should soak in if you use arrowroot. :) I would do a Google search and see which powders can be substituted in body butter, there may be some good info there but I am only familiar with arrowroot. Thank you for your question!
I don’t use a preservative since this body butter has no water content - I’ve had no issues with this product keeping up to 1 year. If you’d like, you can use any preservative you are comfortable using. I personally like Phenonip or Optiphen :)
Hi there! I haven’t personally used agar agar so I can’t speak for sure on it. It looks like the consistency differs a bit from arrowroot flour. It is apparently used as a replacement for gelatin and a thickening agent- so I’m not sure if it would change the consistency of the butters or alter the integrity of them. I would do a tiny batch of butters and see how it feels. Report back here if you try it to let us know what you find! :)
Hey there! Do you mean shelf stable? This has no water so no preservatives are needed, my recipe has lasted me at least 11 months from the tester I made. But if you are selling this to customers, a preservative might be good. No refrigeration needed unless you live in a warm climate. This tends to melt very easily so shipping in summer months is nearly impossible.
I’d say it really all depends on the temperature of your home. I noticed it hardening slightly but still felt whipped and melted really well on the skin quickly :)
Hey there! The only way it will really hold shape is if you keep it really cold before you pipe it. But you can also up the amount of hard butters and lessen the amount of soft oils and it will hold its shape much better! This recipe is a fairly airy and soft fluffy body butter but I have been able to pipe it I just throw it in the fridge for a bit before I pipe :)
I’ve read that for these specific oils they will keep for up to one year but my body butters always get used up before that time :) If you need it to last longer, add a preservative.
Yes essential oils are stronger and more concentrated than fragrance oils. You can use a fragrance oil calculator to see how much of each type to use in different products. There’s a fragrance calculator on Brambleberry.com
Hi i want check if im on right site on your I g ? Im seeing a lot of great items but not body butter i see soaps and all I was not sure same person are you Amanda 😊
People, why when I put cetyl alcohol to connect the oil and water, the water separates from the oil, they don't connect? Why so, what's the problem? 😢 Thank you
Almost any fragrance oil is ok to use as long as it is skin safe. Some places you can go to are: CandleScience, Bramberry, and Natures Garden to name a few! :) Be sure to check the fragrance oil calculators to calculate how much fragrance to put in to make it safely. Bramble berry has an easy calculator you can use. Best of luck!
You’ll want to replace the Shea butter for another hard butter or oil. I personally recommend mango butter to replace the Shea, but you can also try cocoa butter too. Cocoa butter is much harder though so the final product may be more stiff. But you can always cut this recipe in half and play around with different oils and butters to find what you like best :) good luck!!
Hey there! I’ve heard that you can substitute the arrowroot flour with something like corn starch or tapioca powder. However, I have not personally tried this so I can’t make any suggestions for amounts. But if you do find a good usage rate and have success, please give us an update! :) best of luck!
Yes you definitely can! I encourage you to play around with the amounts. I think kokum butter would probably make for a more firm butter vs mango, but both are equally great! Just be sure to have a good ratio of hard butters to soft if you’re looking for a fluffy light finished product :)
Hey there, if you don’t have one of the oils you can do a total of 4 ounces of either sweet almond or rice bran oil. They are very equal in consistency and weight so if I’m ever out of sweet almond I replace my 2 ounces of it with almond- for a total of 4 ounces. Thank you!
Oh yes! I’ll add the fragrance notes here and then add to the description in a moment :) Scent description: This fragrance combines aquatic top notes with Italian bergamot, rare camellias, and lime; followed by middle notes of lily, jasmine, and rose; finished with notes of exotic sandalwood and vetiver.
Hey there, I’m not planning to make more body butter until September since the heat of summer means I can’t ship the body butters. But I’ll make another video in the fall so be on the lookout for that :)
It can harden if you leave it in a cooler room such as below 65 degrees. It will also melt a bit if it gets too warm (around 85 degrees). It stays fluffy in my house which is usually about 70 degrees (all Fahrenheit) 💜
Good luck! I’m sure it’ll turn out great! I like to add a little bit of arrowroot at a time and test it each time I add until I get the desired result! :)
Unfortunately the only way to ensure the product does not melt is to package it with cold packs or dry ice and insulation. Even then it’s possible for the product to melt if shipping is delayed. However, there are some “emulsified” body butter recipes online as well and those are less likely to melt in transit. I’m working on a recipe currently and will have it posted in a month or so. Until then, there are some great resources if you search via Google as well. :)
Thank you for the recipe. But you get headaches as you are using toxic fragrance. Please do yourself a favour and put essential oils in instead. And if you are selling these you have a responsibility to your community. X
You obviously have no idea how will microwave works. Lol "radiation". Also I would recommend keeping the temperature of the water for the double boiler below boiling temp since at that temperature (212°F / 100°C) you are absolutely killing a lot of the nutrients and vitamins inside of your butters and oils.
Or even less if i can is tht the best way to
experiment lol
Thank you for getting back to me i will definelty take ur advise and try. And go for it wht else i got to do just sit cant do alot of movement as long a si wear this neck brace i can do this body butter making i enjoy it its keeping me sane thts for sure lol again thank you have a great rest of ur day
@@mtblondie0036 🙏 heal fast 💙 have your butters gotten better for you im at it to 😊
Does it thicken later after beating it? Also do you recommend plastic to store it in or glass?
If you follow my recipe exactly, it’s light and fluffy at the end. If you want it thicker you can use more butters and less light oils but I haven’t personally tested a thicker/dense recipe yet
I always recommend glass just because i try to reduce plastic whenever possible, but in this video I use plastic. Either is ok
Hii i need help!!!!
I've trying to do this and its perfect but the next day its so hard it solid no like a cream. What i can do ?
Hi, I like you video was awesome. I have a question: how many portions you get with that recipe?
Thank you Laura! Let’s see, I was able to fill up six 4 ounce containers with the recipe, but not all 4 ounce containers are created equal (which seems odd but it really does seem to depend on the supplier lol) so I’d say plan for at least five 4 ounce containers or 20 ounces by volume for this recipe. You may get more or less depending on how much you whip it :)
@@rosebudsuds2971 thank u I'm gonna practice your tutorial
@@lauratesorero awesome, let me know how it goes! ☺️
Do u have body butters i haven t seen on site only soaps and men butters. Shea butters and body butters isn't on your pages i see ..is it mainly soaps you do ?
Thank you so much! Love the video abd new fan
Thank you for watching!! :)
Should we cover it with klim wrap/foil paper while it's in the fridge???🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Yes that’s what I do just to keep out unwanted dust/debris :)
@@rosebudsuds2971 thank u
Hi, if I'm doubling up the recipe should I also double the fragrance oil?
Yep! As long as you are using twice as many oils/butters you are ok to double the fragrance. Just be sure to use a fragrance calculator if you are using essential oils rather than a fragrance oil do to how concentrated essential oils are. 💜
Hi! Thank you for the recipe!!!!!! We could replace the arrowroot flour with another flour, such as rice flour or bran flour?
Hi there, I have not tried to replace the arrowroot with anything else so I cannot say for sure if that would work. You can always try making a tiny batch and testing that out! Let me know if it dorks out for you, I’m interested to hear about it! :)
@@rosebudsuds2971 Okay, I'll let you know!!!!!
You are so GENEROUS!! This body butter looks luscious, im going yo make it this weekend.🙏🏾
Looks very nice. Mine always turns super stiff when I use stainless steel.
Glass is good too! :)
Hello i need to do this for a business, and can I keep it outside, and how much time can used?and how many grams did you get? please answer
Thanks!!
Lovely, did you use preservatives?
I personally do not use preservatives in this because there is no water content. However, for larger batches at a time you definitely could use a preservative, one that mixes well with oil based product. :)
Can you please tell me which preservative is good and percentage please?.. thank you for your reply
@@edhen2214 I like Phenonip and Optiphen
Great recipe, but what butter can you substitute the coconut oil for?
Anything light like sweet almond oil or grape seed oil, sunflower oil is good too
hheeellppp , my body butters come out so greasy and melt easily , what is a key thing i should avoid and something you recommend other than arrowroot powder ?
Hey there, the only thing I have used is arrowroot powder so I unfortunately cannot speak to any other potential ingredients. I would say to use oils and butters that soak into the skin the quickest. That’s why I chose the recipe I did. Coconut oil can soak in more slowly so some people avoid that in recipes. Really it can be about the amount you put on your skin. Most body butters will have a greasy feeling for a few minutes but as long as you put on a very thin layer it should soak in if you use arrowroot. :)
I would do a Google search and see which powders can be substituted in body butter, there may be some good info there but I am only familiar with arrowroot.
Thank you for your question!
Cornstarch!
Tapioca starch is a good alternative and if it melts easily you need to add more butter and less oils
Is this right formulation?? Pls guide
Shea butter : 54%
Coconut oil : 18%
Rice bran oil : 18%
Sweet almond oil : 4%
Arrowroot powder : 5%
Fragrance: 0.5%
Mica :0.5%
what's the life of this body butter and do you need to add a preservative if you use arrow rooth?
I don’t use a preservative since this body butter has no water content - I’ve had no issues with this product keeping up to 1 year.
If you’d like, you can use any preservative you are comfortable using. I personally like Phenonip or Optiphen :)
Hi can I use agar agar powder instead of arrowroot flour?
Hello , thanks for the video . Is this recipe stable?
Thanks for sharing I love this
Does the butter stay whip consistency or does it harden after some days?
I’d say it really all depends on the temperature of your home. I noticed it hardening slightly but still felt whipped and melted really well on the skin quickly :)
I really like your videos thanks
Am i able to pipe this into my container , will it hold its shape (the tip design)
Wow awesome please how long will it last
I’ve read that for these specific oils they will keep for up to one year but my body butters always get used up before that time :)
If you need it to last longer, add a preservative.
I have an allergy to almonds, what other oil would you substitute it for?
Any other light oil works just fine! Like jojoba, Grapeseed, rice bran, etc. :)
Essentials oils are more potent than the fragrance oils? Fragrance are for smell correct are those the ones that is needed more oil in batch?
Yes essential oils are stronger and more concentrated than fragrance oils. You can use a fragrance oil calculator to see how much of each type to use in different products. There’s a fragrance calculator on Brambleberry.com
Do you use a stand alone mixer also or just a hand mixer i see some have wisk but do that matter
You can use both with the same results! :)
Watched December 4 2021, thank you
Can u remix a butter u just made few days ago if want add fragrance and want it more fluffy will that work or 2 late
Yes you just need to remelt the oils and harden and whip again. Sometimes you can add a fragrance without remelting but you do need to re-whip it
Would it be ok to ship this in the summer months?
I would not ship this in the summer months no. But I sometimes do local pickups or local deliveries when people want it. :)
@@rosebudsuds2971 ok thanks for sharing ❤️❤️❤️
Hi i want check if im on right site on your I g ? Im seeing a lot of great items but not body butter i see soaps and all I was not sure same person are you Amanda 😊
People, why when I put cetyl alcohol to connect the oil and water, the water separates from the oil, they don't connect? Why so, what's the problem? 😢 Thank you
hi love, where do you get the fragrance oils for body butter
Almost any fragrance oil is ok to use as long as it is skin safe. Some places you can go to are:
CandleScience, Bramberry, and Natures Garden to name a few! :) Be sure to check the fragrance oil calculators to calculate how much fragrance to put in to make it safely. Bramble berry has an easy calculator you can use. Best of luck!
@@rosebudsuds2971 is it better to package them in plastic or glass jars? And thank you for responding!❤️
@@kellyvanessa5424 I always try to be as eco friendly as possible, so I would say glass whenever possible, but plastic is totally ok too! :)
What can you replace for shea butter? I am allergic to Shea butter.
Thanks
You’ll want to replace the Shea butter for another hard butter or oil. I personally recommend mango butter to replace the Shea, but you can also try cocoa butter too. Cocoa butter is much harder though so the final product may be more stiff. But you can always cut this recipe in half and play around with different oils and butters to find what you like best :) good luck!!
@@rosebudsuds2971 thank you!
hmmmmm, I wonder y?
Can you substitute the arrowroot flour?
Hey there! I’ve heard that you can substitute the arrowroot flour with something like corn starch or tapioca powder. However, I have not personally tried this so I can’t make any suggestions for amounts. But if you do find a good usage rate and have success, please give us an update! :) best of luck!
Can I use mango butter or kokum butter instead of coconut oil?
Yes you definitely can! I encourage you to play around with the amounts. I think kokum butter would probably make for a more firm butter vs mango, but both are equally great! Just be sure to have a good ratio of hard butters to soft if you’re looking for a fluffy light finished product :)
How much does this yield
Is it 4oz of almond oil all together or 6?
Hey there, if you don’t have one of the oils you can do a total of 4 ounces of either sweet almond or rice bran oil.
They are very equal in consistency and weight so if I’m ever out of sweet almond I replace my 2 ounces of it with almond- for a total of 4 ounces.
Thank you!
Where do i buy the butter
Hey there! I don’t currently have this for sale since it is warming up and the butter can melt in transit. I will be making it again in September. 💕

Hi..i dont see where you put the oils scent notes..the video said u were gonna put the scent notes in description but im not seeing it..i was curious
Oh yes! I’ll add the fragrance notes here and then add to the description in a moment :)
Scent description:
This fragrance combines aquatic top notes with Italian bergamot, rare camellias, and lime; followed by middle notes of lily, jasmine, and rose; finished with notes of exotic sandalwood and vetiver.
Do you also do piping can u do video on that also ?
Hey there, I’m not planning to make more body butter until September since the heat of summer means I can’t ship the body butters. But I’ll make another video in the fall so be on the lookout for that :)
did you play this back? its difficult to see, not sure if its your filter or sun ???
Not sure, I just used my phone and when I play it it looks clear enough to me. Sorry it is difficult for you to see
Does it harded once you put it in the jar or does it stay smooth and creamy in the jar like lotion?
It can harden if you leave it in a cooler room such as below 65 degrees. It will also melt a bit if it gets too warm (around 85 degrees). It stays fluffy in my house which is usually about 70 degrees (all Fahrenheit) 💜
What was that color again...
Looks awesome..so creamy..wish me luck lol
Good luck! I’m sure it’ll turn out great! I like to add a little bit of arrowroot at a time and test it each time I add until I get the desired result! :)
How many jars did this make ?
Hi there! You can get 5-6 four ounce containers with this recipe depending on how fluffy you whip it up :)
How do you keep this product from melting during shipping to warmer climates?
