If you take "Setsuna" and separate it into three pieces, it'll be "set sun a". If you then read that backwards - "a sun set". A sunset. "I am a sunset"! MIND BLOWN.
DUDE Jesse thanks so much for archiving this here! I was so fucking sad to see this come up in my email notifications and to only get to see the beginning of the stream before gameplay even happened (you hadn't even booted up the game yet) before I had to leave for class D: Been sick as hell the last couple days and am exhausted and after a long day of work I'm glad to still get to sit down, chill and watch this :D
i love the way they designed their game with actual 3D models, i always wondered how you would convert the sprite-based style of those old rpgs into 3D and it works beautifully here through their animation and stylized shapes and colors
One of my best friends Tomoki wrote the music for this! I'm so glad he got to do this, but also a little jealous. Also glad Squenix is getting back to the classics!
leovaeg Already did! At the rate he gets on facebook, he'll get the message in about a month, haha. Dude's seriously talented, though. and extremely dedicated
I wouldn't mind this taking the Life is Strange slot once that is done, but I really want him to get Witcher III finished because Mankind Divided is only a month away.
I'm just saying he has to finish off Witcher III, Life is Strange and Unchartered 4 over the next month. He is close with Unchartered 4 and Life is Strange but I have a feeling that W3 is going to be running concurrent with Deus Ex
that was officially the fastest you have ever made me laugh. cant wait to play the game while watching the other 2 hours & 44 minutes!!! XD (that song, WHAT EVEN WAS THAT XD )
2:08:20 Important knowledge about food here. I think Jesse thinks they are permanent, but they only last one fight, and it's the next one you are in only. But he only skimmed that info... he'll read every word of a long bit of lore (Which I love, mind you) but the important stuff he skims. :P
I'm half expecting there to be a twist where the whole sacrifice ritual was started to contain not evil, but good monsters that the humans of the past just didn't like much and/or started a war with, and the monsters attacking people are just retaliating out of revenge for being sealed away.
I was hoping to get around to playing this wonderful game BEFORE watching a Let's Play of it. Unfortunately, I can't get to the game because of a busy schedule... Fortunately, you're playing it, so it's going to be well-worth the watch.
You should always "Listen to Advice" it unlocks things sometimes and shows you tooltips. One tells you how to fortify your equipment with metals, pretty important
pre-purchased this lovely game, My older brother wants to beat it first though so ill have to wait lol. Very old school JRPG (and no i just dont mean the combat) can tell its inspired by Chrono Trigger. I heard some ppl complain about loading screens...they are like 5-10 seconds, stop acting spoiled, all them old games had loading screens too!
it isn't just inspired by it. some of the music is derived from chrono trigger along with the first scene you meet setsuna looking exactly like the scene where you meet magus at the cliff and choose to either fight him or refuse to fight him.
I tried to figure out how to exit the game until it suddenly hit me... L1+R1+L2+R2+START+SELECT... This is a true new old-school game here :P Loving it so far...
Imagine not knowing who Jesse Cox is except for him being the guy who works in the office next to you. I imagine a person like that would just spend a lot of time staring with wide eyes into the wall that splits the office... with Jesse's outbursts of salt, hype and joy. As well as the occasional singing... "What... the... hell... is going on in there..."
Tnx Jesse for playing this, would have never known about this game if you didn't play it I'm a bit of a fanboy for JRPG's like FF games and currently playing Megadimension Neptunia, Its pretty fun
The shopping system is like Etrian Odyssey's. Monsters drop monster parts. They're worthless to you, but you sell them and the tradesmen use them. Then you buy stuff the tradesmen make out of the materials.
I wish it was easiest to watch Jesse live. It is hard enough to have the time to do so, and even worse when he lives in a different continent... A announcement video while he is streaming would be welcomed. :/
Please refer to the legendary "IRON BRU" Co-optional/TGS podcast episode to see him rant about how they're horrible people for creating FF13 however ;D
What I like the most about Chrono Trigger's plot is the efficiency of it all. Hardly any of the dungeons are just there, you know? It's 95% relevant, even the places that don't seem relevant at first. The endgame quests are character relevant, it's not just dungeons and lootboxes.
Everything is relevant to the story, but very little is necessary to beat the game. You can complete the game by level 20 if you want to, it's just very hard.
ok I watched exactly 49 minutes and I am stopping here. This is too good for me to spoil myself. I don't usually buy games on a whim, but I'll make an exception for this one..
How could you Jesse? Murdering innocent little penguins? You're a monster! This game seems awfully familiar to FFX... let me guess. There's a giant monster who turns out to be your dad and is temporarily repelled by sacrifices?
Whenever Jesse starts dinging, I think 'Normal Jesse Brain' goes on hiatus and "Voice Jesse" takes over. And when he stops singing Normal Jesse comes back and realizes where Voice Jesse has taken him...and jsut start laughing at the absurdity he's created. P.S. I thinki this game would have been a bit cooler if it followed the 'I am Tetsuo' path. props if you get the reference.
He says 'Owari da na'. Japanese doesn't have words like 'aert' in them. He speaks very informally: - 'Owari' means 'the end' ' - da' is an informal/slangy form of 'desu' (which is one of the 'to be' verbs for Japanese) - ''na' is a suffix sometimes thrown onto the end of a sentence for emphasis by males (mostly, females can and do use it as well, sometimes), if you don't want to say 'yo' at the end (which is also for emphasis), both of which are the equivalent of the '!' mark, more or less, though it can at times be used in place of 'ka' ('?') if said with the appropriate tone. Translates more or less to "It's over!" or "This is the end!" or even a more dejected "Is it... over?" (though I don't see 'na' used like this hardly ever, usually they just use 'ka' in that instance) depending on context (context is everything in Japanese). In this particular instance, Endir is using the 'na' in a very typical, stoic fashion, so the emphasis from the 'na' is a lot more subtle, but I would still use the '!' in translating it. In Japanese, the verb is almost always at the end of the sentence, followed by any necessary suffixes, so a direct word-by-word translation doesn't work very well. It's part of what makes translating it kind of tricky. You have to get a sense for what the sentence means, rather than directly looking at just the words, and pay attention to the context in which it's said.
I don't watch enough of your videos these days. Too good, dude.
If you take "Setsuna" and separate it into three pieces, it'll be "set sun a". If you then read that backwards - "a sun set". A sunset. "I am a sunset"! MIND BLOWN.
You mean anustes
No, I don't, actually.
The name itself is Japanese for "a moment; an instant". Fairly apt for someone who's not long for the world.
It's glorious to be able to see Jesse while he's singing
DUDE Jesse thanks so much for archiving this here! I was so fucking sad to see this come up in my email notifications and to only get to see the beginning of the stream before gameplay even happened (you hadn't even booted up the game yet) before I had to leave for class D:
Been sick as hell the last couple days and am exhausted and after a long day of work I'm glad to still get to sit down, chill and watch this :D
I hope you feel better!
Get well soon, dude. :)
which is almost better cause you get the chatlog too
THIS IS SOOOO GOOD.
JESSE YOU BETTER KEEP PLAYING, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY POSTING, THIS!!
i love the way they designed their game with actual 3D models, i always wondered how you would convert the sprite-based style of those old rpgs into 3D and it works beautifully here through their animation and stylized shapes and colors
"TEAM MYSTIC, DAWG!!!!!!!... I heard there was a gym here." LOL
I like how much the village trusts you after you're basically strong-armed into helping them.
The song in the beginning was great.
The Swamp?! :)
Noah Hamilton Cause it's hot down there. Just like my underwear.
One of my best friends Tomoki wrote the music for this! I'm so glad he got to do this, but also a little jealous. Also glad Squenix is getting back to the classics!
tell him he did a GREAT job!
There's a part in the battle music 1:39:03 - 1:39:07 for an example, that sounds A LOT like the beginning of Ocarina of Time's Lost Wood theme IMO.
leovaeg Already did! At the rate he gets on facebook, he'll get the message in about a month, haha. Dude's seriously talented, though. and extremely dedicated
you better complete the game Cox.... I'm watching you.
I wouldn't mind this taking the Life is Strange slot once that is done, but I really want him to get Witcher III finished because Mankind Divided is only a month away.
+Christmas Crustacean duno I kinda hope he finishes this one quick ... if he takes the slow approach i might as well just buy it and play it myself
I'm just saying he has to finish off Witcher III, Life is Strange and Unchartered 4 over the next month. He is close with Unchartered 4 and Life is Strange but I have a feeling that W3 is going to be running concurrent with Deus Ex
He streams these and then stuffs them up from the Twitch archive. I don't think they take up any specific UA-cam slots.
Fuck it i just bough the game ... was saving the cash for Megadimension Neptunia , but guess that will have to w8
Loving all the music. I like to think that it was all done by one beautifully talented person.
Thanks for being on youtube Jesse, love your content!! :D
This game looks SO promising, I'm already way too excited for the next episode
"kids know way more than old people, that's a fact"
- Jessie Cox (July 21, 2016)
"I don't know anything about this game, but i'm excited"
-Jesse 2016
that was officially the fastest you have ever made me laugh. cant wait to play the game while watching the other 2 hours & 44 minutes!!! XD
(that song, WHAT EVEN WAS THAT XD )
Only 4 minutes in and the old man's voice has changed 4 times. I can tell that this is going to be great.
2:08:20 Important knowledge about food here. I think Jesse thinks they are permanent, but they only last one fight, and it's the next one you are in only. But he only skimmed that info... he'll read every word of a long bit of lore (Which I love, mind you) but the important stuff he skims. :P
Jesse Voice Acting makes this game 10x better
So, now Jesse is playing TWO Square Enix games!
Dude, Nidr is so definitely Endir from the future.
That was my first thought as well. Also, maybe not relevant, but Nidr is the Old Norse term for "dishonor".
Dishonored/I am Setsuna crossover confirmed
xD *Jesse sees a penguin* "What the fuck is this?"
I knew you'd play this game, this is the perfect game for you.
Jesse. JESSE. WAS THAT A HAMILTON LYRIC?! I'M WILLING TO WAIT FOR IT WAIT FOR IT WAIT FOR IT WAIT FOR IT!
Wow. Seeing this game in 60 FPS after playing it in 15-30 really makes a difference. Looks so much more fluid and thus beautiful this way.
You know you're going to a series when jesse sings on the intro screen
I love you jesse
I'm half expecting there to be a twist where the whole sacrifice ritual was started to contain not evil, but good monsters that the humans of the past just didn't like much and/or started a war with, and the monsters attacking people are just retaliating out of revenge for being sealed away.
I want a Jesse Cox Parody music album from this live stream
funniest thing ever
Mother and daughter off as sacrifice.
So if they're sent off at 18...
37:40
*Grabs Dick
RIPS*
That intro song doe lmao. Earned my sub right there
More. This was great. I might even get the game myself.
EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL RIGHT NOW
I was hoping to get around to playing this wonderful game BEFORE watching a Let's Play of it.

"It'll be a good chance for me to you and you to me."
I didn't know the Chuckle Brothers had become mercenaries.
Totally Tales of Symphonia storyline vibes.
Ahaha I just finished watching this on your twitch xD Time to re-watch.
Jesse, Thank you. that intro song was beautiful. =P
"Get out of the way"
Merchant proceeds to walk 2 meters to the right.
Hopefully you will play through the entire game and let us come along for the ride!

Aw man, Setsuna is so like Colette from Symphonia.
I'm excited.
Jesse would make for an awesome Dungeon Master
Leave it to Jesse to successfully make a melancholy game comical
Tnx Jesse for playing this, would have never known about this game if you didn't play it
I'm a bit of a fanboy for JRPG's like FF games and currently playing Megadimension Neptunia, Its pretty fun
Best thing of this game is how little loot it has. Jesse should play those jrpgs more.
I bought the game as Cox recommended it and i haven't regretted my purchase.
1:00 can someone make that a mod so that is the intro song?
"TEAM MYSTIC DAWG!!!"
That cracked me up.
Jesse, you need to start a Tenacious D cover band and be the lead singer.
I remember seeing this on the Humble Store or something, looks much better in gameplay than it did in screenshots.
Bring the girl, wipe away the debt..... what...... Also the team mystic was a great shout out.
I was wondering if I should get this game or not - now I know. I think it's gonna be more fun watching Jesse playing :D
SE needs way more games like this.
The shopping system is like Etrian Odyssey's. Monsters drop monster parts. They're worthless to you, but you sell them and the tradesmen use them. Then you buy stuff the tradesmen make out of the materials.
I do hope more parts of this game!
That Trump impression killed me.
ah great, im getting this over the weekend
I wish it was easiest to watch Jesse live. It is hard enough to have the time to do so, and even worse when he lives in a different continent...
A announcement video while he is streaming would be welcomed. :/
Lately he's been streaming most weekdays around 9 am pst and let's people know on twitter that he's streaming
Minsc!!!
Always good to see a throwback to a classic.
+Grand Wizard Wakka
Well, coming from Wakka, that is a nice thing to hear. ^_^
If I ever play this game I'm naming Setsuna; Satsuma.
It's like... a longer version of escorting Yun in Suikoden 3.
I'm so getting this game once it goes on sale.
I imagine I'm not the only one seeing similarities to FFX but the ancient charm Nidr has seems like an Easter egg to the gull wings
Didn't Jesse hate Squenix at some point? Feels like all he plays are their games now :D
Oh I love SE, I just love them enough to tell them when they are shit.
+Jesse Cox ERMERGEWD SENPAI NOTICED ME.
Ahem. I see.
Wuv, Trwu wuv
+Jesse Cox
just like myself.
Please refer to the legendary "IRON BRU" Co-optional/TGS podcast episode to see him rant about how they're horrible people for creating FF13 however ;D
The music in the game is soo beautiful
10/10 would recommend
"Hes got an evil man's theme" Goddamnit Jesse
I'm at the very start of the video and my eyes are already wet from laughing, that song :)
Music in this game is on point
god damint jesse you having way to much fun son XD
Poetry right at the beginning.
Music reminds me so much of Chrono Cross, especially the overworld music.
Definitely getting this game.
This game is FFX with Chrono Trigger mechanics.
Not great, CT had a better story than FFX too. :(
Chrono Trigger had a better story than most FF games.
except 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, but hey, lets not be petty. :)
What I like the most about Chrono Trigger's plot is the efficiency of it all. Hardly any of the dungeons are just there, you know? It's 95% relevant, even the places that don't seem relevant at first. The endgame quests are character relevant, it's not just dungeons and lootboxes.

Gotta love old man Jesse.
Jesse is grinding for no reason
i only watched 5 mins and can tell i want this game
Plot is straight up FF X. That's a good thing though, God I loved that game. Even the water-soccer-polo mini game. XD
wow beautiful song.
Jesse i need MOAR!!!.... please :]
This game seems pretty dope!
I like the quality of this squenix game... "You will do [null] damage"... Aaaahhh... nothing like quality control :3
51:00 setsuna epitimising the idea of supporting your support. :P
I'm so pissed it's not on the Vita, i would play the hell out of it.
Setsuna is straight up Colette from Tales of Symphonia XD
So I guess while Square Enix is busy making action games now, they created this studio to make actual RPGs. I mean, it's in their name.
ok I watched exactly 49 minutes and I am stopping here. This is too good for me to spoil myself. I don't usually buy games on a whim, but I'll make an exception for this one..
That sounded like a Joker laugh at the very beginning.
How could you Jesse? Murdering innocent little penguins? You're a monster!
This game seems awfully familiar to FFX... let me guess. There's a giant monster who turns out to be your dad and is temporarily repelled by sacrifices?
face cam and jesse swearing, my life is complete
Tidus, Rikku, Yuna and Auron. I'm in love ; n;
The story really does remind me of FFX. You're right Jesse.
"The End, isn't it" is the name
sorry not the name it;s what he says at the end of battle (it's 2am)
+The gameing artist so.... that's, uhmmm... owari something?
Floris Bordewijk dan-aert
He says 'Owari da na'. Japanese doesn't have words like 'aert' in them.

oh, then I've got a problem to point out to a translation site, thank you for the correction
at 45:00, when the fucking warlus slapper shows up. Jesse's reaction had me dying.
That song at the beginning. Couldn't help, but to think of Jack Black in School of Rock. XD
Thank you for making an Avatar: the Last Airbender reference, Jesse.
More please :D I love how this reminds me of the j-rpg I played as a kid :)
Too much quality...
BushDid 9/11
Nope. Quality is the right word. I haven't checked it again yet, but when I posted that comment it was only available in 720p/1080p.
That's a problem?
Caio Rafalski
It is when I have a download rate of 175 KB/s
Oh, I see. Well, I hope you already managed to start watching it.
+Violet Snow mine is 5-15.... when it is plugged in via ethernet :(
Dammit this games music is so close to ealry FF series its Begging me to play it more!
Every god damn time I look I think it says "I am a Satsuna"
