I remember thinking that Articuno was the pokemon with a tail they were mentioning and to find it at the back of the cave
Thousands of Pokemon used to live here.. now it’s a ghost town
I used to hatch my eggs at Altering Cave all the time, so their location data was unique. Good Times.
As a kid I was convinced this is where you would get mew
At least both Caves serve as great spots for EV Training Speed.
Ah yes, the perfect place to shiny hunt for a perfect IV Zubat so I can have a Crobat with hidden power fighting xD
I think you should've mentioned Pokemon Colosseum in this video. It seems like 70% of the Pokemon you see (and probably 90% of the ones you can catch) in that game are Gen II Pokemon, it's way more Gen II focused than GSC which were mostly Gen I Pokemon! So it really supports your point about them needing to find ways to make the Gen II Pokemon available in the GBA era.
In fact, Gen I Pokemon are completely absent from Pokemon Colosseum, except for the few ones that appear in the Hoenn dex.
IIRC, Colosseum and it’s sequel aren’t actually required to get every Pokémon, all the Johto Pokémon (barring legendaries of course) can be found scattered through all 5 GBA games (and I believe all the legendaries were available though events)
That said, the GameCube games definitely make the feat much, much easier (especially since you can get all the Johto legendaries (sans Celebi) without events)
Colo was made to make catching gen 2 viable before frlg and emerald came along.
Lugia being absent from colosseum has always bugged me and I can’t help but wonder if they intentionally left it out of the game to sell a second one.
The legendary beasts are catchable from bosses in the main story and Ho-oh is your 100% reward and Lugia… is no where to be seen.
It sounds very cynical but I can’t think of any reason why they’d have every johto legendary in colosseum except for one.
0:18 ayyyyyyy green team
I remember having no idea what the wiggling tree was. Only found out when friend told me to water it and see what happened
I really liked the idea of Altering Cave when I first discovered it in LG, because Teddiursa was one of my fav mons at the time. Just to learn t was a distribution event only already sucked cause these supposed “Wonder Spots” would’ve been in locations with a LOT of foot traffic. Places like NYC, San Francisco, Austin. Big cities that 13yo had no way of getting to, and was something that just wasn’t possible att. I’m so glad they’re doing WiFi distributions now, but I just wish they’d do it with better mons, and not try to artificially make them seem more exclusive by shiny locking them
Since majority of the Pokemon meant for Altering Cave were plopped into the Post-Game Safari Zone (apart from Smeargle who got his own cave). I felt this was a way better outcome than locking them behind a specific time sensitive mystery gift that wont be availablesafter a few years.
A better idea would have been to include the FRLG specific Johto Pokemon as part of random day Altering Cave. Each day you could get Particular Pokémon not generally available in the game. On one day you could find Murkrow and Larvitar , another day Misdreavus and Sentret. You can even have the cave include icy locations for Pokemon like Swinub and Sneasel.
Finally having a fishing spot where most days you could get common Johto Pokemon easily available in the game like Corsola or Chinchou. But on those rare days you could find a Mantine or Qwilfish to catch
All of their data is in the game thanks to the NatDex and Battle Frontier. So implementing this wouldn't be too difficult. Also rewards the player for being patient and explorative.
ok, but what if the altering cave was a secret base? i kinda wish they used secret bases more. like imagine if the team aqua/magma bases were hidden in secret bases too?
Back in Gen3, when Information wasn't readily available on the internet, places like these really sparked a sense of mystery that modern Pokémon games could never recreate.
Anyway, UA-camr Goppier created a relatively accessible way to get old Gen3 distributions, including those of Altering Cave
That was pretty much any and all RPGs and 3D games back in the day. Sometimes I kinda miss the mystery.
@@Infindox true. Maybe google getting worse and worse will bring it back xD
it's not the most forgotten cave/location in pokemon tho. challenger's cave is
What about the Mirage island of gen 3?
bruh i never even know it exists
As a kid finding the sudowoodo and artisan cave was very cool.
I also loved exploring the Hoenn Region most of all, it just feels so much more 'open' than the other regions.
That map of the Sevii Islands you have at the 2 minute mark, where did you find it?
I was wondering when you would talk about this
When the original reason for it never got used, still it was there for Fire Red/Leaf Green as for Emerald, I don't get the reason for adding the cave in the game after all these years later especially when the Johto pokemon you can catch are in specific locations (minus Celebi and legendaries).
I remember wandering around the cave for ages thinking that there was something more to it. (older Pokemon sure had a lot of places that felt like there was more there than there actually was) I ended up finding a shiny Zubat and thought that was the secret of the cave lol.
I mean to be fair, those caves are useful if you are trying to catch Shiny versions of Zubat and Smeargle 😄
It's interesting to think they had an exclusive area for mystery gift Pokémon when most games had someone drop off mystery gifts in Pokémon centre's in some of the games and more recently you just get them outright by redeeming said Mystery gifts. I can't help but bare resemblance to the Pal Park in D/P/Pt although those areas were used to transfer Pokémon from Gen 3 to Gen 4 but it makes me wonder if an exclusive area like Altering Cave was the inspiration for the Pal Park
I did think about that, lol. If you want the Shiny Zubat, no better place. Though also think about how it could be used to shiny hunt the other Pokémon🤔
Probably meant to have a use as a post game event but they were short of time to do anything with it
I bet gen 10 will be out when you’re reading this, btw this is a time capsule so here’s some stuff
My fall guys fame pass that I just beat season uhh 8 or 9
The most recent BFDI season tpot
My favorite Kirby copy ability, it’s definitely uhh the robot guy that gives you mecha
My favorite Godzilla movie, hot take, the movie with Manila
Did you know? Altering Cave is originally from Outcast Island?
Baby wake up we just found the zubat shiny hunting cave
Emerald got separate areas for Ditto and Smeargle. With the addition of field abilities, theg definitely want it to be the best of the adv games to breed and hatch.
*GUILE HIDEOUT REAL*
A great lore piece for fan stories
You can take it in so many directions
Why would a bunch of Pokémon gather in a cave
Why would they leave? What would make them leave?
Keep up uploading hoenn videos ❤
