I have been waiting for over 20 years to see the ending of this game! Lol the 90s nostalgia. Loved your commentary as well. A childhood memory is finally completed! A bonus for turning 30 recently. Gotta love the old school entertainments.
J Kasparian Haha that's the best reaction, thanks for the comment.
J Kasparian i came here for the same reason, even trying to find the name. i used to go to my neighbor as little boy just to play this. i dont remember if i ever finished it but i think no. the only thing i remember before seeing this video is being in the kitchen and hiding from someone to come haha.
Darn Edna still makes me jump!
+J Kasparian This game was pretty hard back in the day. I downloaded it to my tablet. I loved this game. Still do. I am 31 and I remember how this game was one of the few I remember that gave you the freedom to roam around and it was fun cuz you would try not to get caught.
It was pretty intricate for the time. Even at 30, my logic skills never quite grasp the individual strengths of each weenie kid.
this was always one of my favorite games, i can remember countless hours of just playing this game back in the day :) thanks for sharing !
There's no way I would have figured out this game in 1 million years.
Ya, I never got very far in it... and now I see I never would have!!!!! Ever. Good god, how did ANYONE figure it out!!! This seems crazy hard to me.
Don't sell yourself short
The giving the man-eating plant Pepsi thing was kinda unintuitive.
I know its wild i love that part of the game
yeah the most unintuitive thing was how you safely open the sealed envelope by putting it in a microwave with a jar of water. wtf.
This game used to terrify me as a child.
Ha understandably so.
Trash Talkin'
Same xD
Remember the body in the shower? 😂😂
@@alexand191 remember when there was that body in the shower? I was scared to open the shower in the bathroom for weeks lol
Brutal interface, incomprehensible gameplay, cryptic storytelling. All of this adds towards one of the most memorable and esteemed NES games of all time. One of my all time faves.
Ha well said.
It was the early 90s i was staying up late playing this in my mums bedroom, knowing that i was going to school camp with all my friends the next day. Ill never forget that
I love those memories, I'm with you Peter.
My eldest sister used to play this game... and I remember being scared of the Dr. Fred and his family. Such a great game! Thanks!!!
+Slugmind Thanks for watching, Slugmind!
Thank you so much! haha I never completed the game when I was a kid!
+Constantine Wilson Thank YOU for watchin', CW!
same here!
Made me realize how far I was from actually completing this game as a 10 year old
i saw this video probably 7 or 8 years ago, randomly got recommended a video today in 2024 and somehow remembered your intro. cool to see you still going at it
Haha nice, and thank you!
I remember playing this on my mums old desktop back in the nineties, I must of only been about 6 or 7 and it used to scare the hell out of me...completely forgot about it until the other day, I didn’t even know what it was called then randomly stumbled across an article on google about it through searching for day of the tentacle...nostalgia!
I remember it use to scare me as a kid back in 92. I I think it was that music that plays when you get caught that scared me. Lol
i used to be so scared from this game never got past playing more than 20 minutes because of fear :D i guess now i know how it ends
+Joana Georgieva Ha I actually know exactly what you mean.
+Joana Georgieva I totally know what you mean! Going into, the kitchen I think, when that person with the knife would come after you I would always get scared of that happening for some reason. That and if your character died there was a way to use them as a ghost somehow.
*****
Completely forgot about the ghost ability. It was pretty spooky as a 6 year old.
Same. I thought it was a haunted house game. And that kitchen guy..(shivers) he would terrify me every time.
Ghost ability?!? Was that on both Nes and PC versions? For some reason I cannot remember the ghost ability
By the way, you can mix the Bernard and Wendy´s endings if you call the police by using the radio before giving the contract to the meteor, and as a result of that, the police will take the meteor away during the television show at the ending of the game. Regards from Chile :)
Wow I'll have to try that haha, good call.
lmao
So refreshing to see how to finally beat the damn game! 20+ years and one of my dreams have finally come true!
Nintendo had those Game pro/tips and tricks magazines in the 90s. They showed pictures and level tips. That's how I beat it.
Definitely my favorite game in elementary and I remember being SOOO excited when I FINALLY beat the game! Thanks for sharing!
Was 4 years old and loved this game.
I just shed a tear memories memories memories
I spent an entire summer playing this game and beat it. One of my all time favorites.
I remember getting this for Christmas many, many years ago as a kid. Discovering that you could put the hamster in the microwave was epic :)
Ha, this.
The music still gives me the creeps...frantically trying to get away from the aliens before they lock me into the dungeon . as a tip...befriend Ed and don't touch his hamster unless he isn't in the room...and don't use the keys in the car (other than the trunk) until the very end of the game!
Just a side note, you can use a kid to push on one of the gargoyle statues on the bottom floor staircase to open the door to the room outside of the dungeon from the outside.
Great video, I really enjoyed it and love the nostalgia factor. I played this as a child on my NES in years gone by. :) Thank you.
Nice. Thank you for watchin, Joel.
Thank you for making this video. I'm about to go through Day of the Tentacle and never did complete this game. Now I can see it finished once and for all!
Nice, I'm playing DotT soon, myself.
Nostalgic AF - great video thanks - i neverbeat it my mom did tho she was big into it i watched her, needless to say we are a gamer family.
thats awesome, my dad would have been downstairs watching horse racing
For some reason, clicking on a person and choosing "Turn on" didn't do what i thought it would...
"You and everyone in a 5 mile radius have been destroyed in a massive nuclear meltdown"
I played this game countless times as a kid and could never, ever beat it (but it's complex and what do you expect from a 10 year old?)
First ending was pretty neat. Second ending was hilarious!!! The creators of this game really knew what they were doing!
This game used to give me the worst nightmares, hahaha. I remember panicking when playing it and having my cousins make fun of me. Day of the Tentacle was the shit though.
cookiechomp The sort of real time nature of it definitely was enough to give me an anxiety attack as a kid but in a pleasing way if that makes sense ha.
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow brought me here. This game looks awesome. Great walkthrough!
Thanks Josh, it's one of my favorites!
I really liked this game a lot, nice to know that when I randomly think of an old game I can look it up on UA-cam and it's almost always there, and sometimes it's done well by someone like yourself. The soundtrack was probably my favorite part of this game, aside from the weird wacky stuff that happens.Such as putting the hamster in the microwave, and Chuck the plant! Thanks for posting!
+Fr0z0rz Thank you for the words, and thanks for watching me play this classic!
I loved how it had 5 or so different endings depending on which character you choose and some other factors.
Was obsessed with this game! I remember where I was when I beat it. Since I live near the beach I dated many unmotivated "surfer Jeffs" and knew he fixed the phone to "talk to babes."
Yeah that's sounds like our Jeff.
One of my favorite games even though I've never beaten it. I keep goofing off in game and getting scared (played this game when I was younger). Nice to see a few of the endings at least!🙏
I like how all Dave did for most of the game is be a professional loose brick pusher...! And so much arresting!! 🤪
Also the way there are many ways to complete the game. "I don't have to be evil anymore!" 🤣🤣
That's the happiest ending as far as I'm concerned, the Meteor lands a talk show.
The old game sounds are just so the best
"That's Dr. Fred....That's Sandy...I don't know is he dressed her up like that or if that's what she was normally wearing but ... .... ... .... ... ... ... nice!".
That got me, man. :)
Hhaa you're not the first person to say that.
Excellent let's play, thank you! It gives just enough scope to the game that you can pick it up with random party members and still have an idea what the major goals are or can be. Cheers!
Glad to be of service. It's a great and dynamic game with plenty of possible outcomes which is why it's great for a replay now and then. Thanks for the watch and the comment!
WHAT!?!?!? I never knew Select could be used for the 4 most used commands!?!?!?
Now I want to play again. LOL! thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Yep, bit of a timer saver. Thanks!
Edna and Fred look they're wearing Converse Chucks.
Awesome Let's Play! Blast from the past. Loved this game when I was in elementary school. "12 ounces is a lot... For a tentacle." That was hilarious.
Heather Holt It really is if you think about it.
I love how you refer to them being put in the dungeon as getting arrested...
Wow so many years and hours of searching for this game! Didn't think anyone would remember this one! Wow wow wow thanks for the upload! I didn't even remember title i searched through so many nes games for years. I finally thought tonight out of no where because one of the tunes to game came to mind and i searched again. Searched through nes horrors finally tried nes horror comedies and took a chance on this title and here it is!
thanks for this video. I never finished this game as a kid. I was using Benard Dave and Syd
+Jason Jewell I guess you could have beaten it via the recording contract for the Tentacle or Benard calling the cops; that's an interesting combo.
We need a maniac mansion remake for PC with a graphics overhaul. That would be epic.
an official remake would be great. check out Night of the Meteor, Meteor Mess 3D, and Maniac Mansion Deluxe. those are cool fan remakes in different styles. www.night-of-the-meteor.de/en/about.html
I think about this a lot, like how I'd give a simple modern inventory grid and an "action radial" to make actions easily doable on a gamepad, and press LB or RB to instantly switch between characters. and of course you'd actually use the gamepad to walk around, eliminating the point and click clunk. it would be great! I wish the fan remakes would innovate the mechanics like that. I'd also add a couple extra endings and an in-game map.
With the same original NES music
@@westingtyler2 great ideas, and yes that would make for a great gamepad conversion. Point and click has been achieved with the gamepad on other titles like XCOM for XBOX One, so it's doable. Thanks I'll check out the link.
@@westingtyler2 This is awesome man, there's even additional episodes...nice! Thanks.
Anybody notice the little Star Wars X-Wing planes hanging from the ceiling in the boy's room? Gotta love LucasFilms plugging their own stuff in the game.
Good eye; yeah I like those little nods.
This was my favorite game. Watching this brought back memories ;)
42:45 totally something I would do while killing time... *clicks back and forth*
Thanks for this entertaining and very educational playthrough. I smiled the whole time, you've got a great sense of humor (as did the creators of the game)!
Much thanks, GO, that's a very nice compliment!
Great play through; never finished the game as a kid so this was great to watch.
Loved this game , it was the one that I can remember truly sucked me in , it was spooky , but fun.
Good way of describing it, spooky fun for a kid.
For me this was in the era prior to the Internet, so I never actually beat it. Thanks so much for uploading this! I got all my information from Nintendo Power! and the T.V. show.
Nicely done! Thanks
I played this a lot as a kid. The idea of sneaking around a huge creepy mansion while the people that live there are still inside and they don't know you're there was so cool to me. I was amazed at how the people that lived in the mansion would actually go places and do things in the house.
It turns out the PC version doesn't have any of the cool music. The intro title music and the music that plays when any of the creepy people are on screen.
Omg I can't believe I found someone that plays this game. That's crazy. I've bee asking my brother for years about this game bc I couldn't remember the name. I googled and finally found it. I'm glad I get the full gameplay. You're awesome
Typically I can't stand UA-cam intros, but this one was damn awesome. Excellent video sir.
This is an GEM ! Great horror game from the old days
I remeber renting this game for at least 6-7 weekends in a row trying to beat it
Nice. The question is was your saved game ever still intact?
You might not know this, but this is the updated version. I played this in the '80s on my Commodore, but the graphics weren't as good
This is the NES version and yes it looks so much better than the original PC release.
and check out Maniac Mansion Deluxe on PC for an updated updated version!
This was my favorite game to rent when traveling as a kid
Oh may god! I just checked the mobile game "Thimbleweed Park" and someone commented that it reminds them on Maniac Mansion. I immediately googled it because I knew it had to be this game! I watched my brother play it as a kid and I can only remember that he always struggled and never got very far. This made my day :)
Ha yep, I've done both MM and Thimbleweed on this channel and you can feel that connection through the developer.
This game was spooky as hell in the 90s.
Ha well put.
Found you through your Friday the 13th LP. This game was my favorite growing up and none of my friends ever heard of this game. I am excited to watch. I am a fellow LPer as well!
just occurred to me out of the blue that i never beat this game, thank you for the video!
You're welcome, Damien. Thank you for watching.
I'm sure there are a lot of things I've never yet discovered about this game. can't wait to play again!
+pursuing222 I hear you. I'm pretty stoked to finally play it again myself next week live with different kids. I haven't touched it since this LP which was now a few years ago.
This use to be my favorite game for Nintendo
Awesome playthrough
LOVED this game.
Same here scared the crap out of me and my friend when we were little we would play it on my commodore 128. Man those were great days so was this game
jesus i rented this game back in the 90's it was hard as fuck. watching and listening to you play it today is like you are god or something....i never finished it and it was one of those games like a boy and his blob that i just found impossible. awesome vid dude.
Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jeebus Geezus Penus
Was I the only asshole that use to drown one of the kids in the pool?
thatlsk 😂 nope.. and i use to nuke the boys hamster inside the microwave
I just watched a GDC postmortem of this game. They originally wanted them to say "shit head" not "tuna head" in the game, but Lucasarts wanted them to change that (no swearing). And the chainsaw is useless, it needs gasoline and there is none. What is funny, and was done on purpose, was that in the Zack McCracken (sp?) game that was developed using the same engine, they purposely put a can of gasoline in that game for the chainsaw, but no chainsaw as sort of a running gag. :)
Do a search for the postmortem for this game sometime, it's on youtube and well worth watching.
You have finished my childhood wonder man!!! Knowing the brick in jail would have helped... Jail was the end imo. Thanks dude. Battle of olimpus Next 😜
The prequel to Day of the Tentacle. Mansion of the maniac tentacle day of.
wow I thought this game glitched out hard, everyone I knew back then had a faulty copy, its so spun out to see it the whole way through, like ive fallen into a parallel universe where the game is complete. Thanks a ton. Its something of a mythical experience to me
As a kid I couldn't figure out how to get out of the dungeon.... Pretty frustrating. Thanks for the upload
You got it. Yeah thinking the dungeon was inescapable would certainly change the way you interacted with the family. I kind of like the idea of playing with that handicap, actually.
Love this game!
I set off an alarm one time and the whole house blew up. 😂
Great walkthrough!
+greventlv Much thanks, greventlv!
I remember that if dave gets killed (by giving exploded hamster to ed) that you can walk around as a ghost
Thank you!! i finally seen the ending 27 years later lol. I played this when i was 12 and now at the age of 39 i finally seen the ending thanks to you!!
Ha you got it, Danny. Much thanks for watching!
FYI, about half of your views are me. :D I like to have this video on at work when I'm getting paperwork done or eating lunch. I have so many great memories about this game. I love this video.
Dang, I remember at the last Let's Drink, this video was around 90,000 views. Congrats on breaking the big 100,000 :)
Much thanks, Endrake. Now I need to play Day of the Tentacle.
makes me feel like a little boy again playing this game thinking it was a giant.. a wonder.. a game that could not be beat.. hahah i never beat it but loved it!!!!!!!!
I know how you feel, Jayce!
I thoroughly enjoyed this..... so many memories!!!
+GoGetta24781 Thank YOU for watchin' GoGetta.
I have also only beaten the game as Bernard so it was cool seen it done another way. Definitely makes me want to play it again
One of the greatest games on the NES. I'm SO glad I asked for this game when I was a kid.
+Jay M That's true. You could have been the kid who asked for Bible Adventures. Oh Billy, little did you know that adventures aren't always necessarily fun.
+Let's Play With Brigands LOL! I actually own every Bible game on the NES (except for Sunday Funday). The problem with all games based on the Bible is that none of the companies ever puts any serious effort into making the games GOOD. They were all just out for a quick buck.
I love watching your walk throughs, and your commentary is amusing, funny at times, altogether great! Keep them coming!
You got another one man ahhh i reminisce the days this was one of my goodies!!
+SuP3rN0vAmAtT3r Glad to have you. Yeah it was so so good.
I am so happy that I finally found this video!!! I’ve been looking for years to figure out what this game was called... Today I stumbled across this by searching “vintage video game haunted house talking plant group of friends” in Google and somehow eventually wound up here. This seriously takes me back to my childhood.
HA that's not a bad description of the game. Welcome!
Refreshing to see someone finish the game without syd and bernard.
Btw: Wendys music is a real pain. Sounds more like something out of the nes version of captain comic.
This game almost cause a divorce when it first came out. I played it constantly on my commodore 64. My wife would get so pissed. Found an emulator a couple years ago and played it along with day of the tentacle it was so awesome to get back at it.
Haha that's pretty funny this game almost ended a marriage, but it's THAT good if that makes sense.
SUBBED! Keep playing and rocking bro. Now I know how games ended 😂
Much thanks my friend.
good commentary style, very listenable and informative
Much thanks, Dr.!
My aunt taught me this game, she even mailed 8n for the strategy guide. This game is so underrated and I can't understand why no company ever expanded on this style of gameplay. Hardest game I've ever played that takes less than an hour to beat.
That's a very good point about why no one ever picked up this style again; so good.
This game is in no way underrated, and was the first in a whole series of similar games.
Thanks for doing this. I really enjoyed it. Good commentary too. It brings back memories. Can you do one of "zombies ate my neighbors" and "shadowrun". I would enjoy seeing them again. Thanks again.
+Joe Salvatore Thanks, JS, really appreciate that. I do a live request night once a month where I do requests live on the spot and additionally I do a live request month in July if you are around for either of those. Otherwise I'll definitely get to those games in time. Zombies was a good time.
Man I played this game last time in 1992 on Commodore 64. Thanx for this video. Brings my memories back. :-)
Nice yeah I'm surprised by the number of people who didn't play it initially on the NES. Brings us all together ha.
The soundtrack to this game is so nostalgic for me.
One of the best from back in the day.
Putting the hamster in the micro is the first thing you do!
Ha old habits.
one memory I have of this game is that as a kid I used to watch my older brother play it, and I didn't really know how to read at that point, maybe just a little, bit I really wanted to play and I remember trying to play it not knowing how to read. this game oddly enough was what helped motivate me to read lol
+pursuing222 Ha nice. Some strange words to be your first to read (tentacle, Edzel, Hunk-o-Matic, etc.)
+Let's Play With Brigands lol right? it was mostly the action words like push pull, etc but the dialogue as well!
Good stuff!
My son loves this video. Hes 2 and when it comes to eating veggies, all I have to do is play this and hes zones out enough for me to feed him. Take notes dads.
I could never beat this game as a kid, I was way too young for it. Quite a novel game, very ambitious
Yep, there's nothing to really compare it to on the NES.
