Thanks for the information about checking speed selector. My switch was halfway between speeds. I put into gear and it works like a champ! I should have never doubted my DeWalt!
Thank-you so much for mentioning to check if the gear box was fully in one gear. That was my problem and it didn't dawn on me to check it. now the drill works great again.
I've a jcb drill that's pretty similar in that itll work sometimes and then it wont drill all the way so maybe it's the transmission, from watching your video I've learned alot cheers
2:42 Screwing a screw into plastic like that is the best way to strip the threads of the hole, and judging by the bulge that forms at 2:45-2:46, the torque surely wasn't low.
I just fitted a new transmission in my DC900 drill. But to my surprise the drill still slips in speeds 2 and 3. In speed 1 the drill works fine; exactly the same as the old transmission. Any ideas as to the issue ?
Using a Makita to fix a DeWalt, nice! I used to think DeWalt were superior tools, but my opinion is changing in recent months due to multiple failures of my DeWalt stuff. Most notably, burning up a cordless 20V drill with a 3/8" bit in aluminum of all things, and I'm talking after 4 holes approximately 1" deep, and smoked another after 5 or 6 5/16" holes in steel. Not a good track record
Great video! Unfortunately my replacement transmission kind of got away from me after I took the rubber band off. I got it all figured out (I think), except for a small solid steel pin, about 8mm long and 3mm in diameter. Does this go someplace in the transmission? Or did it come out of someplace else in the drill?
My Dewalt XRP has shifting issues, it often sticks where you have to rotate the motor so that you can shift into the other gears. Is this a design flaw? I removed the assembly and cleaned and repacked the transmission and still the problem exist.
Hi, sure seems like you know this product, I got a dewalt cordless and the warranty expired about 2 months, can you advise will replacing the transmission correct/fix the 'concentric runout/wobble'?....I have check the chuck and the drill bits and they are OK. If you can advise the best way to fix this economically would be helpful. - hope to hear from you soon.
Typically the problem of the wobble is due to a bend in the Spindle Assembly. www.ereplacementparts.com/spindle-assembly-p-64866.htmlWe have these in stock and they run about half the price of the transmission.
yeah idiocy strikes again! where are all the three handed engineers? or the girl that can tie a knot in a cherry stalk whilst it's in her mouth? that's gotta be how these things are assembled.
Hello, unfortunately the part number 397892-05SV transmission is not compatible with the Dewalt DCD985L2. The transmission is not available for the DCD985L2.

Good video. Takes the mystery out of it.

Found it! It's part of the set of pins in the hammer assembly. Got it all reassembled. Works perfectly!

Is the speed selector switch already attached to the transmission assembly?
The speed selector part is in the transmission. The actual part you use to select the speed is a separate part.

Thank you for your kind information. I will now check this.
1:25 😆 XRP!
easy thanks
Need a video on how the transmission goes together...you know, in case some idiot drops it on the floor and it all comes apart...
