The 90s were not good to Cyndi - she brought her A game to the table - yet no one listened. What were people listening to? They were listening to fake live performances by Mariah. Mariah has long sing then lost her voice, but she promulgated a lie. She tricked the public into believing she could sing. Cyndi flopped - Mariah flourished. Oh how things have changed. Cyndi is alive and well in the music industry - Mariah is a lip syncher - just youtube Mariah Carey lip synching - you will learn the truth.
andrew1236 It wasn't just Mariah. Mariah, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion brought back cheesy ballads and people seemed to want that at the time. Cyndi was dealt a shitty hand, though. She totally deserved recognition along with those other three.
I am 43 and grew up in the 80's, she was wonderful then, it seems she only gets better with time. She is a beautiful woman inside and out. Love you Cindi, never stop playing.
I saw this when it aired. This simple, beautiful, and haunting performance has been with me all these years...I've never forgotten it. Occasionally, I will visit it(on UA-cam) and it moves me as much every time as the first time. So underrated
This song and performance is a testimony to raw talent., So many groups/songs have layer upon layer of tracks recorded in the studio with tons of mixing, effects, and mastering. This is one person with one instrument, pouring out music from the heart (OK, there's also a microphone). Don't get me wrong, Cyndi made great use of the studio, but this live track is to die (cry) for. Music just doesn't get much better than this.
I recorded this song on the RuPaul show when it was first aired in 1996, and I wore the tape out watching it. I've been looking for it ever since...thanks so much for posting!
I absolutely love her. She marches to her the beat of her own drum. She has always been so unique, and that is part of her amazing beauty. To hear her speak, you realize her passion for what she believes in. She is beautiful through and through. And from her passion for life comes an amazing artistic beauty.
One of my favorite songs by her, and I love this version. It just works so beautifully so simply. I should post my cover of this sometime, but it doesn't sound anywhere near is nice.
i remember exactly where i was when i saw this come on t.v. and then had to wait forever for the album to come out! still one of my favorite Cyndi albums besides "Bring ya to the brink"!
one of the few instruments i've never played is the dulcimer. I don't know how hard or easy it is, but Cyndi is the only musician/singer I know of who plays it. She is no slouch professionally, so I have to think it requires at least some expertise. She also has a great voice... :)
Why am I crying and why have I not heard this song before? Wow 🤯
This is one of the most underrated songs by Cyndi ever made. It's hauntingly beautiful. Sisters Of Avalon

Good insights. Cyndi got a raw deal for sure. She's been making great music for 3 decades and didn't get recognition for her 90's work to the present.

I was listening....to Cyndi, not Mariah...

Totally!
Few recordings/artists come this far using one instrument and his/her voice only and Cyndi is on top of that list 👍🙏
Her voice, the tune, the drone of the dulcimers 5ths....a perfect combination....Love it Cindy.

True all her drama - she does manage to get things right :) Very good song! Underrated as usual!
Such a pretty song...i think she wrote it too. And the way she looks is so punky chic!
