This song will always remind me of my mother. I remember that I would stay up late at night hoping to catch this song on the radio to record it for weeks after hearing it in the movie theater. Then one day, getting us home from school, it was suddenly playing on my radio. I went running to my room to record it. When I got to the radio I saw there was a cassette tape playing inside. She bought the album for me as a surprise.

My sweet friend from high school suddenly passed away a little over a week ago. This was one of her songs. I was finally able to watch the video today and sobbed all over again because now the song and the video have such a deeper and prophetic meaning. She lived life in technicolor, and her soul had to fly even if it didn't want to leave. I can't wait till we meet again. Thank you for writing the soundtrack to her life ❤

I had been the maid of honor at their wedding back in 1986, and this had been their song. Whenever I hear it played (which is seldom), I feel as though they are both smiling down on me. This song was always so incongruous because on one hand you have this new wave punk rocker with red hair and half her scalp shaved.
On the other side, you had these deeply thoughtful lyrics filled with youthful bravado and angst laden harmonies.

I've seen this video numerous times over the past 40- some years, and I still love it. Especially the part where she's leaving the guy at the train station.
I believe the 80's just had so many truly romantic and heartbreaking songs- so much more than what came after in later decades.
Well, when you've already covered everything, logically, there wouldn't be a lot more to do. People actually pull from older songs a lot because those are the songs that inspired them, but you don't want to make a complete copy. Also, there's a generational element involved. Being stuck in your time will not allow you to enjoy what comes later, as much.

My brother,who was also my best friend, and I, used to camp all the time when Time After Time came out on the radio in 1983. We were in our early twenties. He died on Christmas Day 2 years ago,and this song is like a time portal. I close my eyes and see the flashes of color in the changing mountain trees, snowy peaks, the rush of sparkling melt water rushing down in rivulets. I know he will be waiting for me.

This song has so much meaning for me. I remember so clearly listening to it on my Walkman, soon after it came out, after going to visit the site where our new house was being built. It was the fall of 1984 and I was only 8 years old, but it had been one of the most eventful years of my life. My grandmother had died, my little sister was born, I moved to a new school, and we were about to move into a new house. Even at that very young age, I was feeling nostalgic and wistful, thinking about how much things were changing in my life. Now at 46 years old, every time I hear this song I feel like time loops back on itself and I can reach out and touch that little girl.

+cjsaintrow You'd have had to be born in the 40's or 50's to really appreciate the impact because you then may have made it to Montery for the pop festival, the first great rock festival, during the "Summer of Love". The next stop on the bus was Woodstock in upstate N.Y. which was a once in a lifetime event. I got free tickets but didn't have the $68 round trip air fare from Chicago. What a boner that was. Anyway being 20 or so at the start of the 70's was a rockin roaring ride that has had no equal before or since. I saw the Stones 3 times when they were good, Zeppelin 9 times, The who, Queen, and got paid to do it shooting photos of 12 years of the worlds best bands. What a great ride it was.

I'm almost 51 but I'll never forget where I was when first heard this song. It was 1985, I was just 12 and was mesmerized. I was learning English at the time and didn't get any of the lyrics but good music is universal. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the best songs that's ever made and it will never get old. Born in '62...I vividly remember this & other songs from this album (She's So Unusual), hearing them on the radio in the summer of '84, when after graduated college I made the Big Move away from home to start my career (retired in 2018), so these (& many other) songs bring back great memories. 😎

My mom ditched out on me when I was two. I used to listen to this and pretend it was my mom singing it to me. I grew up and got to know better. Now I sing it to my daughters so they'll never have to pretend.
