    Great insight and very well explained! Have been seeing many great things about the Sony 18-105 f4 lens and once i purchase my Sony a6500 body I believe that will be my first purchase with it. Thanks again, keep up the great work!

    Thanks for sharing. The sigma looks too heavy about the 1.4 looks good. From several videos I have seen, it seems the 18-105 is the only decent zoom for video and that is big and heavy. If you want light you are stuck with the kit lens

    thanks great video. i have a whole bunch of lenses for the a6500. mostly primes, but also the 18-105. I think the Tamron 28-75 2.8 is actually a pretty amazing option even for the crop sensor due to the constant aperture and superb image quality; with a sigma 16mm to do wide angle work. for me the 18-105 isnt good enough for the camera, which can produce far superior image quality with the right lens. It's more like a camcorder lens - super convenient but not a pro lens. i do wish sigma would make native version of the two 1.8 zooms though.

    What do you think about using a E-mount Zeiss FE 2,8/35 for video maker?

    Any comment on the claims that are circulating that the 18-105 has distortion when shooting 4k video? It's a known issue for photographs but you can use auto-correction within the camera to eliminate the distortion; supposedly you don't have that option when shooting 4k video so you end up with distorted footage.

    Good video but you are aware that you can use E lenses on the Sony A7 series cameras without getting the vignetting? Sony has the APSC Crop mode with their FF cameras including the A9.

    The sigma 18-35 requires an adapter right?

    I tried 18-105 with a6400 and it was not sharp at all. my nex 6 with helios 50mm 1.8 lens at 1.8 was waaay sharper. Is this normal or did I tried a bad copy?

      its need a big gimbal and i do no recommended this lens for a gimbal because the lens with mc 11 adaptor veryyy hard to palanced.

      and in my opinion the 18_105 is the best lens for gimbal for crop sensor .

    with your experience with the MC-11 and the 18-35, how is the AF on it? I'm currently debating whether to trade in my 35 1.8 and 18-105 for the sigma (I shoot alot of stills), because I love the 1.8 on it, but I'm not too familiar with sigma lenses. I use alot of the AF functions on it, do you know if ALL the AF works with this adaptor and lens combo (I have a 6500).

    • @JackJunior
      @JackJunior  7 років тому

      The AF works fairly well but it doesn't focus nearly as fast as the native Sony lenses.

      Jack Junior gotcha. Yea I just found out that I would need to get the USB dock also to update the lens firmware. Another added expense I didn't want to pay for. Lol

      I have to say that the afc is good, while the focus noise is just too annoying especially when u got a microphone on the body

    I have the Sony A6500 and the 18-105 is a good lens for video but it is not a great photo lens. I found the 18-105 was soft in the corners and not as sharp as the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 and the Zeiss Tuit 12MM 2.8. I agree that the Sigma 18-35 is a great lens and I have it with two adapters....the LAEA3 and the Metabones Speed booster. The Speed booster makes the 18-35 an unbeatable combination. I also love my Minolta 28-135 Macro with the LAEA4 adapter for video. The Sigma and the Minolta are a bit heavy for gimble video work and are my tripod lenses for video. I use the 55 and my Tuit 32mm 1.8 for most video work that does not need zoom. IMHO the Zeiss lenses cannot be beat with the Sigma 18-35 a real close 2nd. The Sony native lenses have their advantages such as OSS and full focus options that the Minolta's and Sigma's sometimes do not have even with the best adapters.
