YOU’RE SO RIGHT! I mentioned that the 18-105 had it but I forgot to mention that the sigma lenses didn’t! I guess I’ve just been a bit spoiled since I got the 6500 with the in body stabilization! 😊
For the mere mortals that still use a6000, OSS is a godsend. I'd be interested to see a comparison between a6000 with an OSS lens vs. a6500 with the same OSS lens, if you are looking for ideas for your vlog. Thanks
That’s a great idea! I’ll throw it on my list! I still kept one of my a6000’s too so I could actually do that test for sure! Thanks for the suggestion!
Excellent video. I agree with you. And all of them are my travel kit lenses.. I put also the Rokinon 12mm F2.0.. even being a manual lens. If you put it on infinity all from 1m and beyoond would be on focus.. Thanks for your video!
Yeah! You’re not the first person to mention this! Maybe I’ll throw together a folder and leave it in the description so people can go see some examples! I’ll let you know if I get that up!
If you guys are considering buying the Sigma 30mm f1.4, i'd like to share some of my shots ! candidfeels.wixsite.com/showcase/blog/tpuphotomeet-at-glasshouse-seputeh
The sigma 16mm 1.4 honestly by far is the best lens to have. Specially how it looks. Looks like a F2 full frame. It's sad how sony didnt pay much attention to their apsc lenses
Agreed! It’s definitely one of my favorite for sure, it’s just so cool to look through it and see such a wide sharp image! Sony might be lacking but it seems like some other companies are chipping in! The new tamron lens looks dope!
Dunna Did It absolutely! Because of what they lack companies like Sigma have a huge opportunity to take advantage. They also recently just brought out a few FF emount lenses. Plus the prices isnt as hectic as sonys line up.
Over the 30mm? I mean, I'm going to a trip and I want to do street, architecture, landscape and portraits and I'm struggling betweet the 16 and the 30mm. I' m not sure which one would be a better all-rounder. What do you guys think?
Javi - that’s a pretty tough call. Honestly when I’m traveling, I’d rather have a bit of a zoom lens than just one lens, that’s why I love my 18-105. I can go wide for architecture, landscapes etc, go medium for street. And get a little further in for nice compressed portraits. The only downside really is the f4 aperture
I just made the switch to Sony from Panasonic and it’s largely because of you dude. A buddy of mine picked up an a6000 from watching your content, I tried it out and fell inlove. Got my a6500 last Thursday and I’m stoked to learn all about it. Thanks for representing the Canadians here on yt, pce ✌🏼
That’s so awesome! I’m glad that I could help you come over to the dark side MUAHAHA! 😂 seriously though thanks for watching and enjoying my content! Let me know if there’s anything you want me to cover that would help you with your new setup!
This video is exactly what i needed, i was looking to expand my kit, and a lot of your explanations made me wanna buy the sigma 16mm and the sony 18-10mm. Great video pal!!!
That’s awesome! I’m glad I could help! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions! And when you’re ready to buy, if you want to help me out, use the links in the description! Cheers!!
I came to your page via a search after my friend's son dropped my camera on Sunday. The drop broke the kit lens for my Sony a6300. Thanks to your video, I bought the 30mm Sigma lens from b&h. I ordered it yesterday afternoon and it came this morning with free shipping! Woohooo! Of course, I tried it right away, and I love it! I can not wait to create videos with it. Thanks so much for your help!!! Peace and Love.
The newer Sony 18-135 f3.5/5.6 is my favorite all around lens. I replaced my 18-105mm with it. Lighter, smaller, longer reach, and just as sharp in my tests.
Yeah it looks like it’s a bit sharper of a lens from what I’ve seen. That’s a tough call though. The 18-105 has the constant f4 and internal zooming (better for gimbal work). I think if I was purely doing photography, I would like the 18-135, but I think for what I’m doing I would still go with the 18-105, even if it’s a bit bigger and has a little bit less reach! Great point to bring up though! That could have been the alternative instead of the kit lens!
Actually my favorite lens is the 70-200 f2.8 alpha mount by Sigma. It is very sharp and has good bokeh. Of course it has limits being a long zoom. I use it on my Sony A77. I tried it on my a6500 but the focus features are limited with the adapter, so I keep two cameras. After that the Sony f1.8 35mm is pretty good. My walk around lens is the Sony 18-105 f4. It isn't the sharpest but it is great for casual shooting.
Just started Photography a year ago when I had the chance to buy a cheap mint used A6000. Havnt went looking to much as to what others have in there bag as truthfully Im still learning I don't wanna draw the attention my way as I know little. HOWEVER, I have to say hats of to me. I own and use the three lens you have just talked about (well a year ago but you get the point) I am so placed with the sigma 16mm f1.4. landscapes and Astrophotography as my thing and I use it a lot. Going out for the day or to a wedding and the like... Im 100% putting on the 18/105 f4 Sony G. Love that lens also. The lens for street and the like, well I picked up a very cheap Sony 50mm f1.8. I used to love that for night walks around towns and the like but now its the 16mm sigma I through on. So pleased that I made them three lens my kit and watching this video just makes me happier knowing that I done good lol Thank you New subscriber Marc
Based on your recommendation, and the other reviewers I follow, and since all three of you seem to own the 16mm 1.4 lens, I ended up buying my own. I took some test shots with the lens, and I am blown away by the clarity and level of light that comes into the shot, thank you for your informative video, it was really influential in my decision :)
Love the video. I am relatively fresh to the Sony world and so far I am smitten. Not sure if this was brought up already: What about vintage glass? There's tons out there, much of it is cheap and just drop-dead gorgeous. Pentax, Canon, Minolta - you name them. There is almost too much choice out there. Sure, they're not that great for vlogging, but for B-roll....I'd say "bring on the vintage".
This is the exact video I needed to watch. I'm getting ready to trade in my Canon for a Sony and trying to find the equivalent lens setup, and this is exactly what I need. Thanks!
Hello Boy - it’s a prime lens so there is no zooming in the lens. Typically if it is a zoom lens it will have two numbers in the name. So for example, the kit lens is a 16-50mm. So at its widest, it is 16mm and at its most zoomed in it is 50mm. Hope that helps!
I got my A6400 with the kit lens as soon as I upgraded to the 18-105 I kept it always on my camera. I use it on a webstream studio in conjunction with 3 Sony ZV-1 cameras. I thought it would be bad in low light but even with f4 I get amazing video. Last week I got the Sigma 30mm and it's so amazing everything looks good on it, I guess I am missing the 16mm on my arsenal. Thank you for your video.
I only have the 30mm f1.4 out of these 3. And I totally love it! And I don't understand why to say that 30mm is no portrait lense. A lot of people use 50mm on Fullframe for portrait🤔
Yeah I think a lot of people like 50 as kind of a minimum for portraits a lot. Closer to 85 a lot of the time. I'm not sure tho I love the 30 for portraits
Randomly stumbled on your channel and recognized you, super cool to see someone from Lloyd doing what they love and killing it. I was friends with your sister in high school, keep up the good work!
@@dunnadidit good dude! Picked up an a6500 with a few lenses and watching lots of your content trying to learn to use them better. Had a few cameras over the years but never really taken the plunge before
You've asked for a con for the Sigma 16, I guess it would be awesome to have optical stabilization for video. Not that critical considering how wide it is, but if we were to think it's useless we wouldn't hype this feature on action cameras anyway. Of course we can't have everything, but still. That applies to the Sigma 30 as well, both Sony 35 and 50 primes are f/1.8 OSS, giving them a nice advantage over the first one.
I totally agree! People keep asking me which one is better, the 16 or the 30 but they're for very different things. That's why I love having a couple primes and an all around zoom on me!
Yeah a couple people have mentioned that! I actually had the update and it made a big difference but the manual focus is still a bit weird to deal with in my opinion.
@@dunnadidit Nice I guess the 18-105 is one of the best lenses that is even a G lens(there are only 2 for aps-c)... For the whole aps-c world(When it comes to cinematic videos)
I just purchased an a6300. It's my very first camera and I'm really excited to really dive into it. The only lens I've ordered so far is the 35mm f1.8 because I knew that I absolutely couldn't go wrong with that one. It seems to be pretty highly praised and of very good quality and I'm sure it'll be a very good all around shooter. I don't have tons of money to spend so I've been trying to decide on which lens I should buy next so thank you for the advice. I reeeeally want the 90mm f2.8 macro G but that thing is like $1100 so I'm trying to decide whether to wait and save money for that or go ahead and pick up another more versatile lens.
I would personally go with something a bit more versatile for my 2nd lens (18-105 f4) and the start to build more primes after. But that’s just kind of how I think! 😁
Thanks man, that's one of the lenses I have been looking into most closely. I have read and heard some things about a slight lack of sharpness from that lens but I think some people blow that kind of stuff out of proportion
I own the Sony a6400 with the 16-50 kit lens. I also own the sigma 16mm 1.4. The next lens I was going to buy is the sigma 30mm 1.4. Does anyone have any hands on experience with the sigma 30mm 1.4? How is it? Should I buy it?
Excellent video. Lots of information packed into short period of time. Especially like the "alternative" feature, describing similar products from different manufacturers.
Thanks to Sigma... Sigma 16mm F1.4 makes Sony A6000 looks not bad among competition... Btw, anyone use Sony 35mm F1.8 ? I do feel it produces is a bit weird feeling image, unlike Sony 50mm F1.8.
Modern digital cameras can solve many typical lens problems. The internal software of a premium camera can correct barrel or pincushion distortion and vignetting very efficiently. The digital correction by the camera of chromatic aberration or the high ISO noice isn't always great but is good for the average photographer. Also the contrast, saturation and sharpness can be adjusted. The advances of the cameras firmware can make lenses with unavoidable optical issues like the super zoom lenses or kit lenses really good. That is a revolution and is getting better and better.
This ☝️ Very well put! I think it’s important to understand everything that is going on within your camera as well! There is so much happening in the software of it all! Thanks for sharing!
great advices! it's very clear! I've hear about the magnetic AF of Sigma lenses and that what is out of focus tend to jitter/tremble a little. have you heard of it?
That’s a bit of an issue I’ve had on tons of different lenses, not just the sigma ones. I never did figure out exactly what it was or how to fix is. I first noticed it back on my a6000 but don’t notice it as much anymore with my a6500.
I like your videos, but i defnetly miss the sony 35mm 1.8 in that lineup. The Sony 35mm 1.8 is excelent and i allways recomend people who use an a6000 a6300 or a6500 this lens as their first prime and so far everybody likes it. Ifeel like most people forget, that it exists even though it is an excelent lens. And i would not recomend the Sony 16-50 kit lense, i know it is cheap but in my opinion it is a pretty bad lense (but maybe i am spoiled) My ideal lineup for people who are getting started with an aspc e mount camera. Sony 18-135 (very versitaile and sharp zoom) Sony 35mm 1.8 (sharp nice bokeh and steadyshot and very small, an ideal lens for apsc) Samyang 12mm 2.0 (only manuel focus, but man this lens is hands down the best price to performance lense i know, just amazing performance for a small price)
@@delagente6922 It is compact and light but it also has really bad image quality, especially towards the edges. Distortion is terrible as well but that gets corrected in camera so it is not a big deal. Sharpness is not good overall and it is really bad for snapshots since it takes a few second till you can take pictures due to its collapsible structure
awesome content Dunna! love how you're on point, expressive and informative. I'd be even better if you could add images as a small B-roll when you mention like how the wide angle lens has very small minimum focusing distance (while letting the viewer see a photo captured with that lens). Overall! A big fan and would definitely be looking forward for more content from you
Thank you for the kind words and the tips! Definitely something that I thought about after the point lol (hindsight is 20/20) anyway! I really appreciate the suggestions! Thanks for your support!
Hey man, this video is very useful for me, thanks for sharing. I think i'm gonna get the Sigma 30mm f1.4 on my A6300. Do you think Sigma 30mm f1.4 is better than the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS ?
Hey man! The 30mm 1.4 is definitely an amazing lens. But if you NEED oss the 35 might be a better choice for you. I have the 6500 so I have the in body stabilization and it’s a life saver. But it really depends on what you do? Do you shoot more photo or video?
Couldnt agree more! You will need OSS if you're using the a6300. Unless it's just on a tripod of course. If you're doing videos, go for the sony hands down. Its quieter and it's got OSS
TBH Sony 35mm's image quality is crap. It's got really good AF and IS, but for stills it REALLY lacks sharpness, even stopped down. I'm not a sharpness freak, I was even fine with kit 16-55, but this lens was the first that I actually found too fuzzy. It's great for video though, because the image is being downsampled anyway - I love it. The IQ of Sigma 30 1.4 is superior to it, but it misses more often, it's loud and ofc it lacks IS, so it all comes down to your needs. I wish there was a 35mm on the market for aps-c that would no-brainer, like the Sony 50 1.8.
Rafal - thanks for your input! This is the first time I’ve heard someone speak that way about the 35 so it’s good to know that I’m not missing out on the perfect lens :) I’m super happy with the 30mm. I have had pretty great luck with it’s autofocus so far so maybe I got a great unit or something. Thanks for taking the time to chime in!
Great recommendations!! I've been using the Sony 35mm 1.8 which I think is great but the Sigma 30mm looks like a happy middle between tele and wide plus the 1.4 !!!! I just found your channel and I'm really glad I did. Congratulations, you're doing a great. job. Keep it up, we'll keep watching!
Yeah the 35 does seem to be a favorite for a lot of people but I do prefer that 30 just for a little extra width, if I want to get in more I’ll go with my 56 :) Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m glad you found my channel too!
Agreed! I’m excited to get out and try some more astrophotography this year now that I have that lens! It is too bad about the lack of oss. But it’s still a great lens!
Thats tough... a bit of apples and oranges, sure they're both fruit but different flavors. Zooms are super versatile and handy for quick situations, primes are usually better quality and can more easily have a wider aperture. Just depends what you need.
I thank you for your kind explanation. I am working as a video art director in Korea. Soon I will open my personal UA-cam channel and I hope you'll take a look at my video too. I'm your fan. I look forward to seeing you in the future. - From Google Translator hahaha
That’s awesome! I would say the 18-105 that I talk about in this video would be a great choice for euou. It’s got oss which is great for video and a constant f4 aperture which means that your exposure won’t change during zooms!
Love your video style! Just subscribed! 😄 I use a Sony a6000 and have the kit lens. Why are tele lenses with good aperture soo much more money than wide lenses with these apertures...😕 P.S.: I'm very proud of me that I understoud the whole video, because I'm from germany and I am 14 years young... 😂 Could you understand everything I wrote? Please give me feedback.😉😄😂
Hey! Thanks for watching and yes, I understand everything you wrote! I’m not sure exactly what it is that makes certain lenses more expensive to be honest. My understanding is that it’s harder to make them I guess? It seems like mid-range focal lengths for portrait shooting seem to be the easiest and most common to make, but when you go wider, or go more telephoto, it gets harder to introduce a wide aperture. I’m not 100% sure though and I could just be making that all up haha 😂 thanks for watching and subscribing!!
Thank you for your honest review. I am about to get the A6600 but I don't know which lens is the best for what I need. This video helped me a lot. Subscribed.
One con of the Sigma is that the aperture only goes down to f16. I ran into this limitation while trying to do some long exposure. Aside from that, it's an incredible lens and sharp like a tack. A must buy for the Sony a6x.
Be careful recommending that sigma 19mm 2.8. It is absolutely HORRIBLE for video. Constantly hunts and makes your image not professional. I had it, and sold it and got the 16 1.4. If you don’t believe me go read the amazon reviews on it. Steer clear of the 19mm sigma for video!
Thanks for your input Garrett! I had the 19mm for a while and I didn't have that kind of trouble with it. It wasn't my favorite lens by any means but it did the trick. Good to know that other people are having so much trouble with it!
Dunna Did It interesting! Coulda just been the autofocus that was giving me crap? I don’t know man I was super bummed on it. 16mm 1.4 though, that lens is comparable to my 24-70 Zeiss!
Try to use it with a Gimbal. Even the cheaper a1000 or a2000 (fuyitech?) do a great job of stabilising the shots. And its less than the price difference between the a6300 and 6500.
At the end of the day, the tiny Sony 20mm F2.8 is my walkabout lens. I never liked the zoom ring range on the 18-105mm. To get from 18 to 105 you have to turn, and turn, and turn, and turn..... I hate it. It might be good for video, but for stills, you won't get the quick adjustment you need when the moment is right there. I like the Sigma 30mm F1.4, but in my opinion, it is slower to focus than the Sony. Not to mention it is big. I do like the Sony 50mm F1.8 for portraits, and of course, the adapter that takes all my Nikon gear and mount them on the A6500, for when I have all the time in the world. Thanks for a great short and to the point video.
I had the 20mm for a while but I didn’t love it! Something about the autofocus just didn’t do it for me! But I bought it used so it could have been defective or broken too. I definitely get what you’re saying about the 18-105. Actually when I read this, I had to pick it up and test, 2 quick turns got me from 18-105, but it’s not a great feeling because of the way the mechanism works, if you’re used to a more physical feel of the older style of zoom, this will definitely be odd, that being said, it’s still only 2 turns, not the 4 you mentioned 😉 hehe. I did actually quickly mention that the 30mm has a bit more trouble with the autofocus, although I see now that I mostly was referring to in low light. I put about as much emphasis on it in the video as I have trouble with it in real life... very little. Honestly, maybe it was that firmware update they put out recently, but it works at about 96% efficiency of my Sony native lenses, and better than some Sony lenses I’ve owned. Definitely a good point for people to keep an eye on with third party lenses though! Yeah the 50 is great as well and like you said, if you’re willing to wait. You can adapt almost anything to Sony! I have a couple vintage Pentax lenses that are sweet with an adapter! But they don’t come out often cause it’s just so much less efficient! Thanks so much for watching and for all the awesome input! I hope to see you around in the comments more!
Solid video, I just picked up a Sony a6400 body only & wasn't sure what lens to get. Since I'm on a strict budget the Sony 16mm 2.8 will have to do for now.
You’ve reaffirmed my lens purchases. Thank you the 18-105 is an amazing lens! I’ve got you’re so y alternatives to the sigma lenses and I live them. Good job
That’s awesome Jim! I’m glad you’re loving your set up! There are sooooo many options out there so it’s super important to have a great base kit to start with!
One of my favorite lenses for both APSC and Full Frame is the Sony 85mm f/1.8 . My lens collection is in a bit of a flux since I have just sold my 24-70mm f/4 Vario Tessar lens and am replacing it with the 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamron which I am waiting for to arrive... As far as APSC only lenses, the two I am most fond of are the Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS and the Rokinon 12mm f/2.0. I also like to use some Legacy lenses from Meyer Optik Gorlitz, Carl Zeiss Jena and Helios...
Fantastic video - and fully agree. These are all the lenses I own myself, if I'd rate them this would be the rating: Sigma 16mm -> best lens I've ever shot with. Perfect for 99% of all the things you do photography wise. Sigma 30mm -> great, best for portraits. On SonyA6500 it's x1.5 so you'll have close to 50mm. REALLY impresed me lowlight + how crips the shots are. Sony 18-105 -> great for filming / zoom photography, make sure you set up the exposure and shutterspeed well. I've had some shots that I wasn't happy with and hoped I'd done them with my Sigma.
I have a used A6500 with a Sigma MC-11 (Canon EF to Sony E) coming soon. I also have the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens I am anxious to see just how well this combination will work.
I have a used A6500 coming along with the Sigma MC-11 adapter for Canon to Sony and I am panting to see how the Canon mount 30mm f/1.4 Sigma lens (as well as the rest of my Canon glass) will function on the A6500! I am "thinking" of picking up a Sony 18-105mm to carry as a general purpose travel kit along with the 30mm f/1.4 Sigma and possibly my 50mm f/1.8 Canon...
I got a great deal on a Sony-Zeiss 24-70mm Vario-Sonnar lens on eBay. I now have two Sony APSC bodies (A6500 and A6400) and this lens should work quite decently, If not, I can always resell it on eBay at no loss...
I use Sigma 30mm f1.4 dc dn all the time with my a6000. It's an all around lens... Sharpness is crazy... I still don't need a different body or lens for photo and video. Thanks Sigma...
Thanks for the great review! It launched me to buy the a6300 with all three lenses you recommended. But in the future, maybe throw a little test footage for show. I did more research for these lenses on my own, though, so it's all good.
Hey Ben! Thanks for he suggestion! You’re definitely not the first person to mention it. My plan at this point is to do videos on each lens individually that goes into more detail on each lens. And most importantly... test shots! Haha! Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy your a6300!
Thanks a ton! I definitely will! (Just in time for going to Russia for the World Cup!) But really though, your reviews are great. Very clean, simple, charismatic, aesthetically pleasing, and fluid transitions. Keep it up!
Just bought my sony a6000 with kit lens (16-50mm). What should be my next lens purchase? I do a lot of travel and shots outdoors! Considering the Sigma 16mm. But open to others around that price! I've also considered the Sony 35mm or 50mm to have to OSS. Too many options!!
My favorite travel lens is the 18-105 f4. The smaller aperture is a trade off, but the versatility of having all the way from 18 to 105mm is wonderful. I brought the 18-105, sigma 16 and sigma 30 on my last 8 day trip... and the 18-105 literally never came off my camera the whole time. Something about the speed of travel I just didn’t have time to change lenses a lot so it was easier to have a lens that could do it all. Wow that was longer than I thought it would be. Hope that helps lol.
And just in case you wanted to do a bit more research... Sony 18-105 F4 Review - If You Could Only Have ONE Lens... ua-cam.com/video/Z9hAHphSX8s/v-deo.html
I happen to have exactly those two lenses for my a6500. All I can say is the 18-105 was really great for traveling because of the versatility, you usually don't have much time to swap lenses. The sigma 16mm is very good as well if you can get both lenses or if you already know what you'll be capturing.
Great video! I wish I had the sigma 16mm f1.4 but I bought the Rokinon 12mm f2.0 a couple years ago (before the sigma existed) and it has probably been my favorite lens. 16mm is wide but 12mm is a fair amount wider than just 4mm would suggest. The lens has vignetting problems at f2, but if you can find it cheap it's totally worth it. Also the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS should also be on this list for a Sigma 30 alternative. For anyone without an a6500 the OSS is a lifesaver.
Pretty decent kit for a documentery setup. There's also the 56 1.4 sigma for more traditional portrait work, and the Sony zeiss 24mm 1.8 for the lovers of the classic 35mm FF FOV. Personally I use Fuji with 2 lenses, the 23mm and 35mm 1.4. If the sigma lenses were available for fuji I'd pick up the 56, much cheaper than the faster Fuji 56 1.2.
Nice one man! I have both the 16mm and the 18-10, love them both. I have always loved the footage that I see from the sigma 30 1.4 I think It's to get it!
Thank you so much! Yeah I totally understand about the stabilization. I forget about it sometimes when I have it on my a6500 (in body stabilization) and I throw it on my a6000 and I’m quickly reminded of the lack of stabilization. It only really bugs me for video though. Not so much for photography.
Dunna Did It Yeah I agree! My a6300 doesn’t have in-body stabilization but if I throw it on a steadicam and add some stabilization in post it doesn’t bother at all, even for video!
I always have to remind myself that movies have been shot without in lens or in body stabilization for YEARS! It humbles me a bit and gets me back to figuring out what I need to do to solve the problem :) or now that I have the a6500, it makes me realize that I have it really good
Great video! Can't wait to get my hands on the Sigma 16mm f1.4. Love the fact that you can double the focal lenght (32mm) by using the Clear image zoom when you shoot JPEG 😍
Dunna Did It not as yet but planning to.... I don't own a camera as yet, but I'm getting it this month end, song a6500, 18 to 105 and the sigma 30mm. Great that you spoke about both in your review
That’s awesome that you’re getting almost the same kit I have! If you feel like it, hit up the links in the description! There are links for the 6500 and the lenses as well as all my fav accessories and stuff too! And if you use them it helps me out too 😁😉 let me know when you get it what you think or if you have any questions!!
Great video, though it seems your 16mm suggestion is largely focused on video (vloggig). I would suggest the rokinon 12mm for photography as it's quite a bit wider. Low F is a non-issue for landscape and you can stich photos from 18mm to get a wider picture. Also the 18-105 is great for video but i would suggest the Sony 180135 for photos. It's much sharper.
Great suggestions Scott! My video is definitely focused on hybrid shooters so video is taken into account for sure. But for people who are purely photographers, Scott has some awesome suggestions here!
Currently going with the Sigma 16mm 1.4 and the Sigma 30mm 2.8 for portraits. The 30/2.8 is super sharp and the APS-C is more than enough to handle low light. Sigma is the real MVP haha.
I couldn’t agree more! I had the sigma 30mm 2.8 before and it was great! I wish I didn’t sell it at the time, I was still very new and I don’t think I understood how killer it was. But now that I have the 1.4 I am set :) and yes. Sigma is definitely the real mvp here!
Nice of you to respond to everyone :) I've been researching lens for over 6 months since before I bought my A6000, but still trying to find my direction (not even sure if sticking with photos or would like to try video) as I'm new to photography. I think my copy of the kit lens is soft, though.. Contenders being 16mm f1.4, 30mm f1.4, 35mm f1.8 OSS, 18-105G, 18-135mm. For the last two, constant f4 is preferred for video because of light, correct? I mainly do hiking and street for now, so maybe a zoom. I feel like a dedicated apsc 18-35 f1.8 would be nice. Thanks for the good content, and understanding that some viewers are entry level.
Hey Yasu! Thanks for the kind words! If you’re looking to “replace” the kit lens with something. I definitely suggest the 18-105 f4. You’re right that the constant aperture is good for video because when you’re zooming you don’t want the exposure to be changing at the same time. That being said. The 18-135 is supposed to be quite a bit sharper. I don’t have any experience with it but that’s what I’ve read. I would say if you’re only looking at having one main lens. Having a good zoom is a great idea first. Then getting some primes with more specific roles after that is the way to go. Hopefully that was helpful! Let me know if you have any more questions!
Yes that was really helpful, thanks for your quick reply and again for your insight! If I'm still unsure in a while then continuing with a sharper, more capable zoom lens as you said is probably best.
Hello, great to hear your choices. Here I want to know what would be your comment if I want to purchase Sigma 56 mm considering as a portrait lens? In this video, you showed Signa 30 mm as a portrait lens choice! My Sony a6400 is with the kit lens, Sigma 16 mm. Planning to purchase Sigma 30mm & 56mm both. Please suggest... Thanks very much.
@@dunnadidit so in that case following lenses would be the best for my Sony like Sigma 16 mm, 56mm. What you suggest dear? Do I still consider Sigma 30mm?
I loved the way you explained the lenses, great job. I have a Sony a6500 with 18-105 zoom and love it so far (still learning). I cannot afford to buy both lenses right now, but could use some guidance as to which one I should buy first the 16mm or the 30mm (Sigma). I am planning to do a lot of close up video shoot and B-roll shooting for my projects. Any suggestion or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
What would make this video better is a price comparison and maybe a few sample shots with the lenses you're talking about, that way you'd get to the 10 minute mark without obviously stretching it. Otherwise a good video, I've tested a few lenses myself but i'm up against a task of putting together a travel kit of 2+1 and looking around to see what other people think. My GF shoots on Nikon so part of me wants to just adapt a few of her zooms (because some of those are crazy good) and keeping just the 30mm on my Sony.
Thanks for the suggestions! That’s a great idea of adapting the nikons if you have them readily available. That being said, I know lots of people fight with adapters and autofocus, but depending on what and how you shoot, that might be the way to go!
I have the 6300 with just the kit lens. Which would you say would be the best lens to get next if I mostly enjoy capturing nature - both landscape and macro/close-up- but would also like to be able to capture some people?
Great vid! Really love your style of doing them. Would like your opinion. Have an a6000 with kit lens and the 50mm 1.8 and I am about to buy the sigma 16mm. Do you think I should get the 30mm or the sony 28-70 to finish out my set ups. I mainly shoot car pics, toy pics, and scenery/landscapes. Thanks for any input.
I think probably the 16mm. I use the 30 and the 50 for similar things. It’s often a bit overkill to own both. But the 50 and the 16 is a great combo to have!!
I appreciate this video a lot! Thank you for enlightening me on your favourite lenses! Also, I'm surprised you only have 1.4k subs, you seem to have such a likeable personality to me!
Hey Man!! what about 18-135 or 18-105 which is good for Photography, Videography, portraits, street photography, and Have Better Image quality and sharpness ?
What is your favorite lens?? Also, before anyone says it... I know I need to clean my lenses 😉
another thumbs up for the 50mm 1.8 especially since it has OSS. The Sigma lenses do not have stabilization (should've been a CON on your list)
Thanks for your video!
would have loved if you showed some shots from each lens
Yeah! You’re not the first person to mention this! Maybe I’ll throw together a folder and leave it in the description so people can go see some examples! I’ll let you know if I get that up!
If you guys are considering buying the Sigma 30mm f1.4, i'd like to share some of my shots !

@@fauzan1006 wow those portraits were amazing and unique! Do you have an Instagram I can follow? I really dig your style!
Fauzan Himmi very nice, very nice! Thank you!
Rios Family - yeah I’d really like to test out some of the new art line full frame lenses!
I really hope you get more subscribers. You’re doing a very nice job. Nice reviews bro.

Great video! Really helped me picking up a new travel lens.
Cheers! Thanks for watching!

I came to your page via a search after my friend's son dropped my camera on Sunday. The drop broke the kit lens for my Sony a6300. Thanks to your video, I bought the 30mm Sigma lens from b&h. I ordered it yesterday afternoon and it came this morning with free shipping! Woohooo! Of course, I tried it right away, and I love it! I can not wait to create videos with it. Thanks so much for your help!!! Peace and Love.
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your camera! But I’m really glad you love the new lens!
@@dunnadidit Thanks! I'm going with the flow. Life is good. You rock!
Thanks for the recommendations man. Thinking of adding the 16mm f1.4 to the kit now.
My pleasure!! I love that lens, definitely recommended!
Nice! Thanks for sharing John!
Thanks for this
I purchased the 30mm a few weeks ago after watching this. It's an absolute dream on the a6500
That's awesome! Glad you like it!
Solid overview. Very well done.
Thanks Roberto! I appreciate it!
Just started Photography a year ago when I had the chance to buy a cheap mint used A6000. Havnt went looking to much as to what others have in there bag as truthfully Im still learning I don't wanna draw the attention my way as I know little. HOWEVER, I have to say hats of to me. I own and use the three lens you have just talked about (well a year ago but you get the point)
I am so placed with the sigma 16mm f1.4. landscapes and Astrophotography as my thing and I use it a lot.
So pleased that I made them three lens my kit and watching this video just makes me happier knowing that I done good lol

Ricky Chen how is your 30mm working? Can u share me some experience... like shooting portrait, etc. thanksss

I use the same one for portrait. Solid choice
Nice! Great minds think alike!!
Love the video. I am relatively fresh to the Sony world and so far I am smitten.
Not sure if this was brought up already:
What about vintage glass?
There's tons out there, much of it is cheap and just drop-dead gorgeous. Pentax, Canon, Minolta - you name them. There is almost too much choice out there.
Sure, they're not that great for vlogging, but for B-roll....I'd say "bring on the vintage".
Yeah! Vintage glass is great as long as you’re into manual focus. I have a couple gorgeous Pentax lenses!
This is the exact video I needed to watch. I'm getting ready to trade in my Canon for a Sony and trying to find the equivalent lens setup, and this is exactly what I need. Thanks!
Great to hear Scott! Let me know if you have any questions!
What you suggest for me, for Sony A6400 , or 6500 mostly I do Movie Shooting ( low light ) , Thanks
My Sigma 16mm lens is coming in the mail today! So stoked to use it!!
Acrylic Studios - that’s awesome!!! Let me know how you like it!!
Acrylic Studios nice pickup!
Does this Sigma 16mm lens is Zoomable? or it can´t zoom at all?
Nice! Sounds like you're on your way to a fantastic kit!
I'm korean and study english with your video because of your good pronunciation. thank you :)

@@dunnadidit good dude! Picked up an a6500 with a few lenses and watching lots of your content trying to learn to use them better. Had a few cameras over the years but never really taken the plunge before
Nice! I loved my a6500! It’s a lot of fun to learn new things!
Definitely! Thanks for your input!
Lens choices depend on your shooting projects. I own 3 lenses and find it makes sense to rent when I need something I don't have for a project.
I totally agree! People keep asking me which one is better, the 16 or the 30 but they're for very different things. That's why I love having a couple primes and an all around zoom on me!
The SIGMA 30mm recently had an update that fixed the focusing issue
.
Yeah a couple people have mentioned that! I actually had the update and it made a big difference but the manual focus is still a bit weird to deal with in my opinion.
2:07 probably zooming moves the internal parts and it changes the center of mass
It does! But not enough to make a huge difference like a lens that extends out the front.
ahiii I cannot choose between the 18-105 and the 18-135. I use the camera for travelling (pictures only) Help me guys please!
If it’s for photos only, the 18-135 might work better for you. I’ve heard it’s a bit sharper and that extra range might be nice.
Dunna Did It Thanks dude! Amazon I’m coming!
@@dunnadidit Also for video?
For video I would suggest the 18-105
@@dunnadidit Nice I guess the 18-105 is one of the best lenses that is even a G lens(there are only 2 for aps-c)...
Totally blown out of proportion lol.
I own the Sony a6400 with the 16-50 kit lens. I also own the sigma 16mm 1.4. The next lens I was going to buy is the sigma 30mm 1.4. Does anyone have any hands on experience with the sigma 30mm 1.4? How is it? Should I buy it?
The 30mm is fantastic!
Dont think twice about buying it
Excellent video. Lots of information packed into short period of time. Especially like the "alternative" feature, describing similar products from different manufacturers.
Thanks so much Henry! I’m glad you liked it!
Thanks to Sigma... Sigma 16mm F1.4 makes Sony A6000 looks not bad among competition...
Btw, anyone use Sony 35mm F1.8 ?

@@rafindrazaki883 i would recommend buying the Sigma 30mm because it is sharper and usually cheaper

This ☝️
Very well put! I think it’s important to understand everything that is going on within your camera as well! There is so much happening in the software of it all!
Thanks for sharing!
Dunna Did It thank you for the response. The manual correction is always better than any automatic one. That's why raw photos are so important.
Agreed! When I started shooting raw, it was a whole new ball game!
great advices! it's very clear!
Have just bought a Sony a6300 with a kit lens and looking to upgrade the lens. This really helped making a decision! Great Video.
And i would not recomend the Sony 16-50 kit lense, i know it is cheap but in my opinion it is a pretty bad lense (but maybe i am spoiled)
My ideal lineup for people who are getting started with an aspc e mount camera.
Sony 18-135 (very versitaile and sharp zoom)
Sony 35mm 1.8 (sharp nice bokeh and steadyshot and very small, an ideal lens for apsc)
Samyang 12mm 2.0 (only manuel focus, but man this lens is hands down the best price to performance lense i know, just amazing performance for a small price)
Thanks for adding your recommendations Jakob!
Thanks For that man! it really gave me more clarity for me since i'm going to buying the a6500 very soon(my first ever camera).I'm so excited xD
No problem Abdul!
Why don’t you like the kit lens?
Thanks for your support!

my favorite is Sony 50mm1.8oss for most applications, just got my sigma 16mm 1.4
Yeah the 35 does seem to be a favorite for a lot of people but I do prefer that 30 just for a little extra width, if I want to get in more I’ll go with my 56 :)
Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m glad you found my channel too!
Unfortunately the 16mm F1.4 isn't stabilized! But it's an amazing lens for astrophotography.
Agreed! I’m excited to get out and try some more astrophotography this year now that I have that lens! It is too bad about the lack of oss. But it’s still a great lens!
Dunna Did It It's indeed (almost) perfect!!
Haha yup! ☝️👍😁
But if you got an a6500, IBIS fixes the problem right?
It certainly helps for sure!!
What about 16-55mm f2.8 by sony? I am confused between sigma trio, sony 16-55 f2.8 or a tamron 17-28 and a sony 50mm f1.8 :(
When I made this the 16-55 didn’t exist! It’s pretty great though.
@@dunnadidit better than those sigma trios
Thats tough... a bit of apples and oranges, sure they're both fruit but different flavors. Zooms are super versatile and handy for quick situations, primes are usually better quality and can more easily have a wider aperture. Just depends what you need.

Thanks to Dunna, I use the sony a6300, give me a most versatile lens when shooting video, I usually shoot travel videos and human factor.
That’s awesome! I would say the 18-105 that I talk about in this video would be a great choice for euou. It’s got oss which is great for video and a constant f4 aperture which means that your exposure won’t change during zooms!
You're right. Sigma has just released 3 new lenses for Sony 😂
35mm f1.2 Art among others 😁
Haha yup, when I released this video they had just announced the original art line for FF sony
Thanks for the honest review. Got my hands on a a630 and now need lenses.
Love your video style! Just subscribed! 😄 I use a Sony a6000 and have the kit lens. Why are tele lenses with good aperture soo much more money than wide lenses with these apertures...😕
P.S.: I'm very proud of me that I understoud the whole video, because I'm from germany and I am 14 years young...
Subscribed.
Glad to hear it Tom! Cheers!
Just got the same camera too. I recommend the the 18-105mm if you want to zoom more or the 16mm for close up..
Bang for Buck.....Bang for Buck...
Agreed! That’s why my list turned out the way it did!
One con of the Sigma is that the aperture only goes down to f16. I ran into this limitation while trying to do some long exposure. Aside from that, it's an incredible lens and sharp like a tack. A must buy for the Sony a6x.
True! I rarely get all the way down to f16 but I can see that being an issue for some! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah who knows I guess. At this point we've both upgraded to the 16mm so we're living good lol 😂.
Garrett Stoffel where did you sell it ? I want to sell my 10-18 but I don’t know how I should go about doing so ...
DeLaGente eBay! I took Gary Vee’s 2017 flip challenge and now I can slang almost anything on there.
I appreciate the work you out into your videos. You deserve wayyyy more subscribers homie so keep it going!
Wow! Thank you so much! That means a lot!
cons of the sigmas... not stabilized :(
Yeah! I’m totally spoiled now with my a6500 ibis. But I still use the sigmas on my a6000 and they are fantastic. Just mostly for photography.
How about with a6500 IBIS +sigma 16mm ?
It’s absolutely wonderful! :) no complaints here!
Try to use it with a Gimbal. Even the cheaper a1000 or a2000 (fuyitech?) do a great job of stabilising the shots. And its less than the price difference between the a6300 and 6500.
Absolutely! Great way to look at it! Unfortunately, sometimes the shot doesn’t call for a gimbal but this is a great solution in a lot of cases!
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Hey no problem! You too!
F4 ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Hahahaha! Best comment ever
why is there no zoom with that juicy f1.4 ?
Haha I’m pretty sure making an f1.4 soon would make it gigantic lol.
@@dunnadidit canon eye of sauron Google it
I also use the 30mm 1.4 DC DN for portraits on my A6000 and love it.
Nice 😁😁👍
This needs more views, I want the 105 1.5 when it comes out
1.4
Feel free to share it around to help it get some more 😁. And yes oh man that 105 🤤 🤤 🤤 looks so nice.
Haha I figured that’s what you meant 😉
The actual lens that I'm planning to have for a Sony e-mount. Great video and audio quality though, keep it up!
Thanks so much for the compliment!! Which lens are you are going to have for Sony? All of them?
Yeah! All of it. Those are the lenses I have listed, Sony and Sigma. But perhaps I would be getting it one at a time. LOL :)
Nice! That’s awesome! I definitely got them one at a time too.
I read somewhere that the Sony 50/1.8 has focus issues and it's an older motor?
Never had any problems with mine... Maybe the full frame version?
Yep, that's the one.
Ah gotcha. I don't have any experience with the full frame one. But the apsc one is good!
Nice! sounds like a solid kit! I just got to try the 85mm f1.4 and it was sweet too! I'd love to have some more time with it!
Fantastic video - and fully agree. These are all the lenses I own myself, if I'd rate them this would be the rating:
Sigma 16mm -> best lens I've ever shot with.
Nice! I'm supposed to have an mc11 with an 18-35 soon to try out! I'm excited to see.
I fully recommend it (18-105)! I haven't used the mc-11 yet but should have one to try soon!
I got a great deal on a Sony-Zeiss 24-70mm Vario-Sonnar lens on eBay. I now have two Sony APSC bodies (A6500 and A6400) and this lens should work quite decently, If not, I can always resell it on eBay at no loss...
That’s awesome!!
I use Sigma 30mm f1.4 dc dn all the time with my a6000. It's an all around lens... Sharpness is crazy... I still don't need a different body or lens for photo and video. Thanks Sigma...
That’s a killer lens!
Great job on the video! I was expecting you to have a couple hundred thousand subscribers! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Jeff! Any day now 😉😉
Thanks for the great review!
Keep it up!
That’s great! You’ll get to test it out a lot there! Thank you so much for the kind words!
Sigma 30 1.4 is my fav lens so far. The only thing I dont like is occasional AF issues in some situations.
It’s definitely one of my favorites too! Where have you had af problems?
@@dunnadidit Totally just changed my way of thinking, may just have to get the 18-105! Thanks!
My pleasure Garrett!! If you do feel like picking it up there’s a link in the description for it that supports the channel too!
3:40 accurate! Kit lenses may not be the best lens but it's how you work it.
Totally!
Thanks for the input!!
I have the 56mm now too (this video was made before it came out) and it’s awesome!
Nice one man! I have both the 16mm and the 18-10, love them both. I have always loved the footage that I see from the sigma 30 1.4 I think It's to get it!
That’s awesome Jose! It’s definitely time to complete the kit and grab that 30mm!
Think about the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm f2. Takes great photos. It's manual but with focus peaking it's a piece of cake to use
Cool thanks for the suggestion!
It would be nice if you Visually show us the difference between the lens via picture or video.
Hey! Absolutely, I’ve actually made individual reviews for all of these lenses now with lots of examples if you want to check them out!
Thank you ! Just Got the sigma 30mm . Your review is still relevant years after 💙💙💙
Great video! I have the sigma 30mm F1.4 too and love it! The only thing that bothers me is the lack of stabilization...
Nice! We work with what we have right!!
Dunna Did Yeah exactly!
I always have to remind myself that movies have been shot without in lens or in body stabilization for YEARS! It humbles me a bit and gets me back to figuring out what I need to do to solve the problem :) or now that I have the a6500, it makes me realize that I have it really good
Kindly guide me.
Can I use sigma 16mm/ f1.4 for my tech and unboxing videos shoot. Please reply
Yup! Would be great!
@@dunnadidit thanks
Great video! Can't wait to get my hands on the Sigma 16mm f1.4. Love the fact that you can double the focal lenght (32mm) by using the Clear image zoom when you shoot JPEG 😍
Thanks a ton!
Awesome review! Would be great if you'd do some demonstrations, showing the quality of said lens
Thanks so much! Definitely keep that in mind for future videos!
Dunna Did It what do you think about the Sony 85mm 1.4?
I’ve heard really good things. Never tried it myself. 85 is a bit too telephoto for what I usually use it for. Have you tried?
Dunna Did It not as yet but planning to.... I don't own a camera as yet, but I'm getting it this month end, song a6500, 18 to 105 and the sigma 30mm. Great that you spoke about both in your review
That’s awesome that you’re getting almost the same kit I have! If you feel like it, hit up the links in the description! There are links for the 6500 and the lenses as well as all my fav accessories and stuff too! And if you use them it helps me out too 😁😉 let me know when you get it what you think or if you have any questions!!
Nice video. What's that microphone stand? Couldn't find it in the gear list. I want one!
Hey! It’s this one here: geni.us/dunnaboomlightstand
@@dunnadidit Thanks, but I meant the desk stand for the condenser mic seen in this video :)
Hey, got the same 16mm and 30mm sigma they works great.
Nice! Sigma Club!!!!
Nice of you to respond to everyone :)
I've been researching lens for over 6 months since before I bought my A6000, but still trying to find my direction (not even sure if sticking with photos or would like to try video) as I'm new to photography.
Glad to help!
Hey! The 56mm is probably my favorite apsc portrait lens. When I made this video, the 56mm didn’t exist yet haha.
@@dunnadidit so in that case following lenses would be the best for my Sony like Sigma 16 mm, 56mm. What you suggest dear? Do I still consider Sigma 30mm?
Dr. Rajesh Sikder - the 30mm is still great. I still use it for some portraits and it’s great for street shooting.
@@dunnadidit Thanks very much. Its great to hear from you. Much appreciated 👌
Thankyou
I would go with the 30mm personally 🤷🏻♂️
My favorite lens is the Canon FD 50mm f1.4 with the Lens turbo II speedbooster. Stunning bokeh and low light.
Oooh a 1.4 with a speedbooster!!! Dang! That would make it like an F1.2 or something right??
Dunna Did It F1.0 equivalent with the 0.726x multiplication. Crazy narrow depth of field!
Damn! That’s got to be so buttery!
And impossible to focus!! Haha 😂
.9. Razor thin, have the same lens with a roxsen.
I have the 6300 with just the kit lens. Which would you say would be the best lens to get next if I mostly enjoy capturing nature - both landscape and macro/close-up- but would also like to be able to capture some people?
18-105
Yasss Dunna! I see you with these views!!! I can’t wait to get a new camera and learn more about lenses, etc. because I know nothing right now lol
😉 I’m just taking it all in right now lol. When you get a new camera, you know who to ask questions to. Your friendly neighborhood Dunnaman 😁
Well thank you so much that’s so kind! I’m so happy to have my 1.4k right now and I’m excited to see it grow! I really appreciate your support!
I'll definitely tag along on that journey! :D
🙏
Hey Man!! what about 18-135 or 18-105 which is good for Photography, Videography, portraits, street photography, and Have Better Image quality and sharpness ?
Unfortunately I haven’t used the 18-135. I prefer the constant f4 aperture
I agree almost all the choices here, except the 30MM. I still prefer 35MM 1.8 over the 30MM 1.4.
Nice!
