I think Ryan is called the first naturally born supe, at least that's what stormfront said. So I'm just gonna assume that's true and that Andre was just given V. I think in general bloodlines can determine what your power is though, like how Translucent's son has his same power

I love how Emma's the only one able to subdue Sam. With her words, then with her strength. She must be insanely strong when she's big, because look how easily she subdued one of the strongest Supes. I wonder how well she'd do against Homelander. I imagine she'd be able to pin him down pretty easily too.
11:41 Tek Knight was mentioned a few times in previous seasons. He was the guy who shattered a girl's spine while saving her, she was on the support group in season 1, His superhero car was also mentioned to be very polluting by the Deep and a few other mentions.
In the comics he's a parody of Batman and Iron-Man with suit that looks like a combination of both. It seems this also the case in the show however he is also a Sherlok Holms type detective here.
Tek Knight was briefly mentioned a couple of times. One of the people at the Support Group that Billy takes Hughie to had her back broken by Tek Knight "After all, Tek Knight saved me. I-I just wish he'd been a-a little more gentle with my spine".
He was also mentioned by Stan Edgar when he was talking to Homelander "Now... I believe you have a premiere of Tek Knight Lives to go to?"
The Tek Knight actor is on a comedy TV show called Future Man, a hillarious show that Seth Rogan was involved in creating. Worth a watch.

Emma is my favorite character and her getting the hero music when she came out giant sized and stopped Sam was awesome. Also the fact that she did it easily really makes you wonder how strong Emma actually is

I can't believe I missed it on my first watch through of the season, but Television's Jason Ritter and the Deep puppet aren't parodying Sesame Street, they're parodying Avenue Q (only it's called Avenue V). That makes it even cooler lol.
Big & tall women aren't considered conventionally attractive so I'd bet Emma's mom probably told her to only use her power to get small as it'd be more marketable. It'd make sense from a subtextual aspect, I think. Oh, and I noticed she usually wears baggy clothing, that's something I didn't put together until this watchalong!
Being tall is a commonly accepted aspect of female beauty.
I get the impression Emma suffered from a failure to thrive. Why her calorie intake has to be carefully monitored to make sure she doesn't simply disappear. More about how she sees herself.

Jordan's and Marie's relationship came out of nowhere for me too. Yes, there was some tension there but it did not feel romantic at all! :D Sam and Emma are really adorable in this episode though. I felt very conflicted about Sam at this point when I watched Gen V for the first time because you can see that he has a very brutal and aggressive side but in other moments he is just this lost child. I do feel very sorry for him and for everything that he must have been through but I am also scared for how much darkness he has. All of these teenagers really need some good therapy - well, to be fair, everyone who lives in "The Boys"-universe probably needs therapy!
Honestly, I am really impressed with how good of a spin-off show this is. I feel like many spin-offs are just created to make easy money, however, Gen V really has a great story to tell. I love these new characters, their complex relationships, I love how this show expands the universe and ties into the "main" story, I love to see how these writers managed to keep the style very close to The Boys while also creating an own identity for this show.
I also really like your reactions :) I stumbled onto your channel because of your Avatar reactions and I always enjoy how deeply empathetic you are with these fictional characters. You are a very gentle and kind soul and I cannot wait to watch your reactions for the rest of Gen V - and hopefully season 4 of The Boys! :D

1:45 The only known natural born supe is Ryan. It's an interesting topic though. I suspect there's genetics at play in regards to V because Maverick also has the same power as his father (Translucent) had. So I would think whatever V does to you, is based on the genes that come from either your mother or your father. Although I think currently we only saw the same powers when it was a father with the same ones. In the main show trailer for season 4 we can see that Vicky's kid had different powers to her. Could possibly be relevant, who knows. But I think given that temp V does apply the same powers every time it has to be something within the genetic make-up of a person that just gets activated / used for the mutation.
23:23 Jordan's male form power is invulnerability. I think they prefer their female form most of the time but they're basically always going into male form whenever they feel insecure too, as if it would protect them from emotional trauma as well. I'm guessing it gives them more confidence in such situations and in regards to relationships they probably wanted to stick to a classical male / female pairing too, since they didn't knew if Marie would be cool with getting on with a girl. At least that's my anxiety based analysis.

11:40 Yes, we have heard of Tek Knight twice. The first time was on S1, when Butcher took Hughie to that collateral meeting. The guy that worked on Vought was there (I forgot his name), the guy that lost his penis because it froze, and one of the women in there said that Tek Knight saved her. I think it was, but he grabbed her from her spine and broke it, and she was paralyzed. She said something like, "I just wish he was gentle with my spine"." The other time was Mr. Edgar's in S2, after Homelander treated him with leaving after his contract ended, and then Edgar's started telling Homelander that he leaked their confidential Compund V, that he is a manchild, etc., after that he says, "I believe you have to go to Tek Knight Premier."
