  • Chihuaha Gulch is so sick. Plenty of small-medium obstacles to keep it interesting and couple line choices on a few of the obstacles. The rut section was real fun along with my S line leading up to it. Just after that things start getting tighter and pinstriping is definitely an issue. Obviously the fall colors are brilliant but I'm nervous they aren't going to last long, might only get one more video with them. Any time of year the mountain backdrop and bowl this trail ends in will be good though. Speaking of the trail ending, it ends abruptly at a hiking trail that leads up to a lake, I was trying to get another trail filmed so I skipped the hike but ended up being too late to film the 2nd trail. This was recommended to me by a viewer but I can't find the comment (not sure if here/Insta/Reddit etc) to credit them so if you're out there let me know! Also if you have any trails you'd like to see let me know as well!

    My Tires:
    amzn.to/2whk2MF
I love these tires. The only others I'd take are the BFG KO2 but they don't make them in this size and the KM2's are amazing. You can probably imagine the amount of driving I do weekly and how much abuse my tires get. These things last, everyone knows this, you've seen it in my videos.
    My Tire Deflators:
    amzn.to/2nYVxzU
These tire deflators have many $15 copies but the others just don't hold up or are inaccurate. I don't know what the deal is, they look identical to me too but read the reviews- they're bad. I've been using these Staun's for over a year and never had a problem, I air down a lot. Set them at the trail so your tires will be the same temp when you get to the trail next time.
    My Compressor:
    amzn.to/2PuerLH
There are better ones but I'd just get a bigger VIAIR, not something different. Airs up all my 33's from 14psi to 37psi in less than 10 minutes.
    My Microphone:
    amzn.to/2P1S3sb
My microphone is the worst good mic you can get. BUT don't be fooled, it's a very good mic. Picture me getting in my car for the 50th time after I just ran up and down a hill... for the 50th time. Do you see me disconnecting my mic and gingerly setting it in a case? No. It stays connected to the tripod, gets thrown into my plastic cargo area and bounces around with other heavy items until the next one. It gets terrible interference from WiFi so you must make sure that it's off on your camera or phone. If you are trying to use this with your phone you need to get a TRS to TRRS cable which RODE makes. This is required because your phone will think the mic is headphones.
    My Tripod:
    amzn.to/2o8h6hL
I went through 2 tripods in 1 month, a $20 and a $30. Buy it nice or buy it thrice. This thing gets opened and closed MANY times per week in rain, snow, dirt, and even in the middle of rivers. I love the 2-stage legs so i can make it real low in 2sec instead of shortening all the legs.
    My Drone:
    amzn.to/2KUGWAp
You can tell how easy it was to progress through my videos. Besides maybe five times, you've seen every bit of flying since I got it. I don't fly in the city and I don't go to the mountains and not make a video. It is VERY easy to use.
    My Drone ND Filters:
    amzn.to/2MHV0R0
The filters are a must. Again I have the worst ones and I am still very pleased. My first use was video #35 and I think it is very apparent. Illinois Gulch (#34 obviously) has a completely white sky, way too much blue. I'm still not even good about selecting the right one or changing them out but it's 10x better than nothing.
    My Books:
    amzn.to/2wmd20O CO
    amzn.to/2BzDIBc CO North
    amzn.to/2ByPuvy Moab
This is the stuff I've tested, this is what I like. I am very hard on all of my equipment frequently and it still works. I back all of these items and each company seems to back their product very well too. I guess it's easy to offer a warranty when your stuff doesn't break.

This brings back fond memories of when we would drive this track in the late 70"s in my dad's International scout. At that time you could drive to within a short distance of the lake. Thanks for sharing. I think I will visit this track once again myself soon.

WOW! Another awesome video! I can truly appreciate the effort you put in to getting the shots and editing. I know you don't have lockers but you really are one with your rig and know how to get traction when you need it. I also love how you do add music to the drone footage but still let us hear the rig on the trail....perfect mix of two worlds. I hope to run into you again on a trail sometime. I only have one thing to say on the down side..........anyone who watches your videos is already planning on moving here to Colorado!! You show how beautiful our State is in an amazing way....Thank you!!!

@@outlaw9232 i was showing the ruts to somebody today and when my car stops moving at 4:43 i thought "that sure doesn't look like a locker.." so i watched it again. my drivers-rear is completely stopped and the front is spinning. if my transfer case is "locked" and the rear is locked the rear should be doing whatever the fastest front is right? now i'm wondering if it's broken or i forgot it haha.

I saw what you are talking about. If the rear was locked then both the driver and passenger side shouldn't stop turning. It almost looked like the rear wasn't engaged as locked. You can almost see the power shift from rear to front....I would think that if just the rear diff locks then it would be independent of the front axle ...???

@@BRollOffroad Nice man! That's awesome! And thank you, I appreciate the info on the website.
On your drone footage, did you need to get permission to fly over these trails, or were you able to just go out and fly/film? We're new to the whole drone thing, but don't want to get into too much trouble while capturing footage of places we go. We know most of the places we can't film, but I figure you'd have more input on these trails specifically than I can google haha. Love the Xterra by the way.

    • @BRollOffroad
      @BRollOffroad  2 роки тому

no permission, it’s National Parks you need to worry about. Wilderness Areas can be for or against, have to look up each specifically. mostly everything out here is National Forest though which currently have no drone restrictions (besides height, 5mi from any airport etc) and BLM zones also has no restrictions unless they have a sign up. DJI does a pretty good job of letting you know if you can’t fly somewhere but the B4UFLY app is the best. unfortunately there’s not always cell service so it’s best to check before you go.

not sure it warrants a video since i have a very simple approach haha. i always have my drawers with me which have 2 full sets of clothes, 5 pairs of socks and boxers, long johns, sweater, hat, rain jacket, parka, gloves, face mask. i also have 5-7 days of Mountain Houses plus a bunch of soup, snacks, water and other drinks. i have a recovery strap, a set of ActionTrax, shovel, axe, a couple hatchets, bunch of knives. i always have some kind of sleeping arrangement with me, first aid, tire plug kit, compressor etc. i fill up as close to the trailhead as possible even if i’m at 4/5 tank, i drive slow and since i’m filming i really inspect all obstacles. the most important though: i tell my gf the trail i’m doing and the route plus any possible trails i might end up on. if i’m not checked in or home in time she’d tell my buddy Justin with the van and because we’re best friends and he’s a mechanic he’ll have to deal with it from there haha. i’m not too worried about breaking a leg and no one finding me or something, i do a lot of trails and it’s extremely rare that i’ve gone a day without seeing someone. i’ve also been doing stuff like this my whole life, even in middle school i’d disappear for hours on the ATV, no helmet, running out of gas all the time haha. i also offroaded a long time before i started a channel so i’m pretty comfortable... but i also turn around a lot, i don’t complete 5-10% of the trails i try and then usually scrap the footage because i hate posting DNF’s. most of the time i’m saying “if i wasn’t alone i’d try this..” but if i AM alone that’s it, not worth it. sucks but at least i’m going to be in bed that night. at this point i’ve thought i was going to die or lose my car so many times i’ve really toned it down haha. i also used to drive semi’s and operate heavy machinery so i’ve been in some pretty hairy stuff a bunch, sorry this is so long, maybe i should make a video 😂

ok cool haha, had me worried for a sec.
in case someone else comes across this: National Forest is always ok, not to be confused with National Park. as long as there are no active restrictions (B4UFLY helps here) and there aren’t any signs at the entrance… plus all the other stuff like 5mi from any airport, no active aircraft in area etc. but the point is National Forests are not a drone restricted zone.
