Dickel No. 12 | 5 Minute Whiskey Reviews #65

- This is a classic release from George Dickel. Dickel 12, a non age statement Tennessee Whisky coming in at an easy drinking 90 proof, is a solid sipper and a value pick for the MSRP. We would argue it's as good as or even better that Jack Daniel's, but that's our opinion. Please let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions or recommendations about the channel or any bottles that you love. We would love to hear from you
Five minute review of George Dickel Superior #12 Tennessee Whisky from the Cascade Hollow Distillery, Tullahoma, TN. General info about the product and distillery as well as a quick tasting. Cheers!

Honestly, I consider #12 an extremely under-appreciated pour. Probably in my Top 3 Go-Tos , along with Old Forester 1910 and Sazerac Rye.
@@Christopher-jv2ec I would agree about #12 being underappreciated, but it's always going to fly under the radar when it's closest comparison is the best selling whiskey in the world (I think).
Sazerac is still on my list to try for ryes. If you like Old Forester, their Rye is pretty cheap but an interesting pour. We've reviewed most of the OF releases as well. Thanks for watching!
I find that Dickel whiskies have an odd, Flintstone's Vitamins flavor.
Well now you have me rethinking everything lol. I'll have to try it again soon.
Great review. But other than being Tennessee Whiskey (or "whisky" rather), Dickel #12 is not even comparable to Jack Daniels No. 7. The taste and quality, age, etc. are worlds apart. Dickel No. 12 is orders of magnitude better than Old No. 7, and is made for sipping. JD #7 is made for shooting and/or mixing.
I'll be honest, as I was reading your comment I assumed you were going to bat for JD. I was pleasantly surprised! Cheers
Never had anything from Dickel, but if I think back, I believe Jack Daniels was my introduction into whiskey (Jack and Coke back when I didn’t know what else to order). Though my tastes have evolved more in the directions of rye and Islay, I think the flavors of the Lincoln County process will always hold a special place for me
Jack is the best selling American whiskey in the world so I'm sure many people have a similar whiskey journey starting point. It's a good product for the price and people love it because it's more approachable than bourbon with that extra filtering process.
I was convinced to buy the Dickel Bourbon because of other reviews I had seen and was gifted the Bottled in Bond (next review) so it just felt like we should make a series by adding this one. Don't regret the purchase but it'll probably be more for cocktails or over ice than sipping neat. Cheers!
The dickel rye is excellent for the price.
@@ZachClouse that's one we still haven't grabbed.

Dickel Rye confirmed in stock at Jungle Jim’s near Cincinnati if you happen to be in the neighborhood

What's your recommendation for a stock whiskey at a wedding bar?
My preferred whiskeys for regular easy sipping, on the rocks, or with coke/ginger ale would probably be Evan Williams BiB (bourbon) and Powers Gold Label (Irish). But Bushmills is cheaper than Powers and no one will complain about it as an option. EW is good for it's higher proof to stand up to some mixing, but the regular EW Black Label is cheaper. Most of your guests won't care because they'll be knocking it back or drowning it with pop. But don't get something so cheap that you won't want to finish what's leftover lol.
If you want a recommendation for the head table, grab something nicer like Redbreast 12, Aberlour 12, or Woodford Double Oaked. None are high proof so no one will have to choke it down.
I will totally agree with BL on this recommendation!
@@mudslingerdistillers5437 appreciate the comment!
H@@TheBarleyLads np its one of daily drinkers! Or regular EW
I'm no expert but the no.8 is better imo. Don't let the price turn you off. At least give it a try. GD no.8 is really my go-to all around whiskey.
Thanks for watching! I'll have to grab a bottle some time to at least complete the set lol
@@TheBarleyLads I also have a bottle of their Bottled in bond batch 2. Haven't opened it yet though.
Much prefer Dickel to Jack. Standard Jack taste's like a dirty ashtray.
I'd agree that this is better than Old No 7. Jack's newest releases are fantastic though. Thanks for watching!
i actually prefer this over the 8 year and its cheaper
I would agree. The 8 yr bourbon is good but there's plenty of better bourbons in the $30-35 range. Not many better than the No12 in the $20 range
The Gorge No.12 is much better than the Jack Ole number 8
Thanks for watching!
I like the cheaper black label 8 better
Haven't tried it but you're the second to say that on here. Sounds like I need to grab a bottle.
This is my least favorite of the Dickel line. The 8yrs is really good and the 13yr BIB is excellent. Though you'll pay more for them.
Still good for the price. It stands up to JD in my opinion. But yeah, not comparable to the bourbon and BiB.
NOT A MIXING WHISKEY!!!!!
Glad you enjoy it. I'd rather have their 8 yr bourbon or BiB neat over this.
