The biggest reason I love your videos, is that you guys seem to be as OCD as I am. Always perfect bottle placement, and the way you line up your whiskey glasses perfectly. Keep up the clean work!
LOVE Dickel. The BiB and the single barrel are some of my all-time favorites! They just released the 13 year BiB and it's awesome. For the Single barrel, definitely go with the higher proof offerings (94 proof and above)!
I bought the 15 year SB last month, 105 proof... I was pleasantly surprised, great taste, a little flinstoney, but it was so flavorful the minerality just added to the finish.
I just recently got out of the military and have decided to start my own at home collection. I have subscribed and starting watching y’all’s channel within the last week and you’ve been a great help. Keep up the great work and know that you’re appreciated!
Looking forward to this one. I see the Bottled in Bond all the time, but can't get past the George Dickel stigma I developed in my younger days of poor decisions, cheap whiskey, and waking up in the bed of my truck covered in puke and regret, lol.
You guys could really go professional. The fellowship and humor that just naturally spins off of you both is so entertaining and gives such good natured entertainment and education. Thanks for what you guys do. 😂
Looks to me like they are going professional! When I subscribed maybe around six months ago, they had something like 60k followers. Now already over 100k. Production values have gradually increased. The setting is the perfect combo of homey and fancy… and the combo of father and son together has really rounded out the package. I wouldn’t change a thing. Think it will continue growing exponentially just as it is. On a side note, I’d love to see you guys film some field trips at some point. Maybe to your favorite bars or liquor stores.

@@NetBogey2019 the 08 is really good, but I remember thinking that it didn't quite stack up to the 07. On subsequent visits to 08 it's been better than I remember that first time though. I blame the neck pour.
I’ve had the 8 and the 13yr BIB, I like them both. I’m glad I watched this because it will help guide me through Dickel products…..thank you for all you guys do!!! Love the show👊
I happen to like most Dickel products. I have a BiB ($49) that’s 13 years old, a store pick “9 year” ($46) that’s 14 years 5 months old, and a “15 year” ($69) that’s 17 years 8 months old. They are all great tasting to me. I don’t get that mineral note. I get brown butter, butterscotch, cherry and apples. They all have a good oak flavor without being too tannic. I may be in the minority but I’m a big fan.
Agreed, they are excellent bottles and I never understand why people hate on them so much. I honestly believe that the brand name has hurt them more than anything, if it was called George Rare or Eagle George I bet people would be all over it.
Thanks for doing this Dickle video. For a while now I've been curious but hesitant on the 15yr. This video confirms my reasons for the hesitation. Thanks for saving me from a bad purchase!!
The only George Dickel product I can find where I live is the Rye whiskey, but I absolutely love it! Yes, it’s sourced from MGP (95% rye, 5% barley). Yes, it’s chill filtered. I don’t care, though. I really enjoy how it tastes and it’s about $25 a bottle.
I've never understood the hate for Dickel. I love George Dickel. I think the 12 is one of the best values. It was actually my favorite go-to whisky for a LONG time. The rest are great! The 8 year bourbon is okay.
Not a comment on this episode but wanted to say how MUCH I enjoy your stuff. Fun, informative - I could hang out and drink with you guys. OK - one comment on the episode. Kinda a shout out to my dad. He always called it Henry Dickel. #goodmemory Cheers fellas.
I don't really consider myself a connoissuer yet. I do like bourbon and watching your UA-cam channel has helped me immensely. I have had the George Dickel 8 year many times and I like it. I was given a bottle of the Small Batch but have yet to open it. May re-gift it now. But I like the 8 year and will continue to buy it.
The No. 12 is the good one in my opinion. I love that stuff. It;s super sweet and I'm not often in the mood for that, but from time to time I relish a swill of the No. 12.
Nice to give these guys a look! I personally like the 8 year(28.00)and the 15 year(50.00) enough to have on occasion! My 15 year is 84.4 proof. Never tried the others and probably never will:)
One of the first bourbons I ever bought was the Dickel 8 year. I enjoyed it for a while but it just had a bitter finish for me that I just didn’t enjoy. There’s half a bottle of it somewhere lol. Great vid!
I almost bought the Dickel Barrel Select yesterday before watching this video! So glad that I didn't (as much as I'd like to taste what you guys were). Thanks for the review and keep up the good work.
I recently gave the Dickel 8 year a try and was very surprised how much I liked it. Price point makes it a great any time sipper I wont feel bad mixing it.
Glad to know the Dickel 15 comes in various proofs. Been considering picking one up since they kind of sit around here. Now I know to check the proof since that might be why.
Have only seen the 8 year and BIB on the shelves. Got the BIB for $28.99, which is a good price,, so I picked up 2 bottles. The BIB bottles I have say aged 13 years.
I’ve not had the Select or 17year, but I enjoy the other three. I think the 15 year is an excellent value. To each his own, that’s why there are lots of choices.
The reason I really enjoy this channel, “besides the great chemistry and humor” is I have found that my taste preference is very close to theirs. I did try the 8yr for the first time today and actually enjoyed it. But I am now apprehensive to buy any of the other offerings of GD.
Thanks for this review. You perform as valuable a service to your audience by letting us know what not to buy as you do when you show us great bottles that we should look for. This review reinforces my previous opinion of Dickel and, until I hear something different, I will avoid the brand.
I picked up a Ohio liquor first release hand selected barrel bottle in 2020 that was a 9 year sour mash. I hadn’t opened it until a few months ago and it was surprisingly good. It was my first pour of any of the Dickel line
Great show! Thanks for the info and your opinions. I have never bought Dickel. I sampled a Dickel Rye at a tasting at the local liquor store last week and though it was pretty decent.
In my opinion most of their stuff is good. I think Nichole Austins George Dickel Leopold Bros Collaboration Rye is pretty special if you are a rye drinker.
I really appreciate this video. I learned everything I need to know about Dickel. I wasn't planning on buying a bottle, and my opinion stays the same. That dusty crawlspace tasting note is spot on!
Great video! I just wanted to clarify something. You guys mention that for the barrel proof bottles to be a lower proof it would need to enter the barrel at a lower proof. But it is indeed possible for bourbon to lose proof during aging depending on where it's stored in the rick house and other factors so they actually could have entered the barrel at a higher proof than what they were bottled at.
Whether water or alcohol evaporates faster depends on the climate. In Scotland and Ireland, proof frequently goes down during aging. In the United States, proof tends to go up during aging. However, it's not a universal rule, and as you said, if the barrel is in a cooler part of the rickhouse it can still lose proof in the United States.
I asked you about the 17 year and glad I passed on it. The next day I came across a bottle of Stagg and spent my $$$ there. Love the reviews. Keep up the great work.
I have a 12 year at 90 proof which was not part of your review, but I find it a good pour and it in the 50-dollar range here in Montana. I'd buy it again.
I got the 15-year single barrel in 105 proof here in San Antonio for about $65, Texas; and I agree with your comment that the higher proof is where it's at on this one!
15:10 Yes I have teenagers 16 and 13, I love them more than life itself (honestly I can't complain they are great kids) but the rollercoaster is intense. Cheers.
100% underrated. The whiskey club i belong to got a store pick of dickel 9 year…. The amazing thing about it is that it was barreled in 2007 and bottled in 2021 for some reason! Still sold at the 9 year price of $50-$70 i believe and im savoring it until the last drop! I decided to crack her open after a 36 hour shift of my normal job and snow removal and man….. it was truly delicious and easy to sip on
Interesting that you guys didn't like the Barrel select. I just tried it myself and I got Carmel vanilla and long Carmel on the finish. always very interesting to listen to another's taste and perspective. Thank you for great content.
Only Dickel I've had and purchased is the 8 year bourbon, and that was based on some whisky-tube blind review. It's obviously not my favorite bourbon, but for the $25-$30 range it is one of the best options. I'd put it right next to WT 101 as a good bottle for either cocktails or just straight sipping on a daily basis. Thank you for covering the Dickel lineup as I've been wondering whether to purchase any of the higher end stuff. From your guys' responses, I don't feel so bad for skipping the other Dickel products.
Well, you know, Jerry Garcia used to say “We're like licorice. Not everybody likes licorice, but the people who like licorice really like licorice.” So I think Dickel might be like the Grateful Dead. Love your videos! Keep 'em coming... they go grate with the Dead on the old hifi!
I have never had any interest in trying any of the Dickel products, and after this video, you guys have for sure helped me decide, that I will never purchase one of their products.
I have a 15yr Dickel single barrel store pick at 93 proof. That I think is great. Would love to send you a sample if possible. Love the show guys, keep it up
Great video. I'm glad you made it. I've been thinking of trying Dickle, but I may have to pass. I'm thinking on trying Frey Ranch, Baker's 7 or Wilderness trail. Which one would you recommend to try first? FR and WT have a Rye, can you help me decide?
Good review. GD White Label #12 was my gateway Bourbon years ago because it was a smooth and easy sipper at a good price point, but as my palate matured I've found bourbon's similar in price (E.g., WT101) that I enjoy MUCH more than Dickel #12. I think that the "Charcoal mellowing" takes away a lot of the nuanced tasting notes most people with a trained palate come to enjoy out of a good sipping whiskey.
Really enjoyed the 15 year. Mine was at 96 proof. Definitely got the flintstone vitamin taste but found it unique rather than off-putting. It was decently viscous too which made it feel like it was a bit higher proof than it actually was.
I picked up a store pick 15 year bottle that had actually been able to age 17 years…I thought wow okay, especially given the 17 year had just come out and was going for around 250, I jumped at the 65 bottle. While complex, I couldnt shake the vitamin flavor! I’m so glad that wasn’t just me!
I have a bottle of the 15 year that’s a barrel select by one of the local stores here, it is 96.2 proof and according to the store owner is actually 18 years old. If you guys are interested in trying it, I could definitely send some samplers
The 18 year Dickel I think is amazing. It's one of my favorites for the price point. No one else has a 18 year aged bourbon for $66.00 at Total Wine and ABC in Central Florida. I always have a bottle on my shelf. I always look for a higher proof but never see them. Mid 80's is all I see down here.
I have the 8yr Bourbon and think it’s pretty good. Not sure I would venture outside that bottle….. too many other good ones vs taking a chance on the other Dickels. I too heard the Flintstone analogy and that’s really kept me away. Probably a restaurant or bar buy / try before anything else. Cheers and great review!
Many 15 year available up in the midwest. 95-105 proof. There is something about it that I just like. It tastes both young and aged at the same time, very unique that way.
The most recent BiB is a 13-year aged from the fall of 2008. I picked one up on a whim and I like it quite a bit. I don’t get the vitamin note from it. Good bottle for a pretty good price.
The Blue Note 17 I opened yesterday is 106pf and is sourced from Cascade Hollow without the charcoal filtering and it’s amazing how good it is when their distillate isn’t ran through the Lincoln county process.
I am not a Dickel fan. I had the 15 year, and absolutely got that Flintstone vitamin note. Another good tasting note that I saw someone picked up was Neapolitan ice cream.
The best two that I’ve had from the Dickel line up are the 9 Year Single Barrel Select and the Dickel Superior no. 12. They are both bottles that I replace when they are done. I just tried that Barrel Select you have in the middle there and definitely decided it was going to be a mixer. Not a fan. I got a pick of the 15yr that is actually a 19yr old barrel. I’ve only had it once. Jury is still out. The old barrel wood flavor is strange and heavy. Very unique at least.

Never tried them and from the sounds of it… I am glad i left it on the shelf lol thanks for the push into never buying a Dickel product
The Flinstone vitamin on the wall - “oh yeah, baby” - priceless
Many 15 year available up in the midwest. 95-105 proof. There is something about it that I just like. It tastes both young and aged at the same time, very unique that way.
The 15year at higher proofs are great IMO. I have a couple at 55-58 that are killer.
I really liked the 8 year. Very smooth
I agree 100% on the Barrel Select. I bought a bottle a couple of weeks ago and Ive had only one pour abd probably wont pour again.
I wonder if you can use the middle one for a drain cleaner.
The most recent BiB is a 13-year aged from the fall of 2008. I picked one up on a whim and I like it quite a bit. I don’t get the vitamin note from it. Good bottle for a pretty good price.
Harry is holding one for me to pick up. Going to compare with my 11 yr.
Evan Williams 1783 is one you guys should try it cheap but really solid in my book.
The Blue Note 17 I opened yesterday is 106pf and is sourced from Cascade Hollow without the charcoal filtering and it’s amazing how good it is when their distillate isn’t ran through the Lincoln county process.
I bet!
I am not a Dickel fan. I had the 15 year, and absolutely got that Flintstone vitamin note. Another good tasting note that I saw someone picked up was Neapolitan ice cream.
I picked up my Dickel 15 at BevMo in California mine is 96.2 Proof and it was $54 bucks last July
Thanks for going over these! We have the 17 and agree with you guys. Nice tasting but not worth the price point.
Love these full lineup videos. The Dickel 15 I had was 104 proof and it was really good. Hope you guys can try a higher proof!
